Yes, my animating skills are still up to be desired. But I'm getting at least a bit better than in my oldest model animations...

not too bad. You should consider smooth shading (Object->Shade Smooth)

That's something I'm aware of and I do use it, for example on my Plioplatecarpus. Deino here doesn't have it yet, cause it's still just a base mesh. But when it gets its texture, I will indeed make its surface look smooth.
