    I had a colleague from Glasgow who had a very good accent when he tried to speak Italian, even though he didn't know what he was saying! But thanks to this video now I can understand why his pronunciation was so good.

    Thanks Ed for this interesting video! You are very effective when explaining every accent. Obviously it is difficult for English learners to remember all the English accents you’ve taught us so far, however it’s useful to enrich our own knowledge of the language.

    Here commences a video on what English people think Scottish people sound like. Even though there were several languages before domination by English, each affecting how English is spoken today, every Scottish person, unlike any other country in the world, has one homogenous accent.

    Hola Ed. Una pregunta.
    Cuando se habla de "Ingles Britanico", se refiere al Ingles de Reino Unido en general?? O se refiere al Ingles que se habla especificamente en Inglaterra??.
    Te hago esta pregunta, porque los Escoceses tambien son Britanicos, pero ellos si pronuncian la R.
    Y el Ingles Britanico se caracteriza por ser un Inglés no rotico.

    • @LeanEnglishPronunciation
      @LeanEnglishPronunciation  2 года назад +3

      'Inglés Británico' se refiere al acento estándar que enseñan en colegios por el mundo, también conocido como Received Pronunciation. Es parecido al acento del sudeste de Inglaterra pero incluso en esa región hay varios acentos. Lo explico más en este video: ruclips.net/video/ZtD8bruCHw0/видео.html

    A brave attempt. But I cannot say that you master Scottish pronounciation---in any of the varied accents. Interesting, though. Have you ever heard the Doric of Aberdeen and its surroundings? Or the northern isles, or even fife? or the many others? And to address anyone as "bonnie lass" is Northren English, and would not be appreciated in Scotland, where it would sound condescending.

    hello mate, what is the difference between the Scottish and Glasgow accent? I love your videos

    • @LeanEnglishPronunciation
      @LeanEnglishPronunciation  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment. The Scottish accent is a set of standard features found across Scotland. The Glasgow accent is a regional accent which contains many of the same features but may contain some differences.

    • @raymondmiller9798
      @raymondmiller9798 3 месяца назад

      The difference is one exists and the other is the fantasy of the English. Jokes aside. Not all people in Glasgow speak with the same accent. Though that's a more reasonable thing to study than a Scottish accent from the Fake Accent University. There are many good channels on RUclips that don't lump an entire people's evolution into one drama school fantasy. I recommend Korean Billy and Englishlikeanative

    • @LeanEnglishPronunciation

      Thanks for your comment! I recommend you learn Received Pronunciation (the standard British accent) because you will be understood by everyone. However, you should listen to Scottish English to improve your listening skills.

    as far as i know the scots accent is very unbalenced towards the front side of the mouth when it comes to vowels. the phonemes i pick out of my own accent are
    i
    ɪ ʏ
    e ə o
    ɛ ʌ ɔ
    a
    au aʏ ai ɔi iə ia əi ua
    if you want wikipedia levels of depth, here
    ɪ ʏ are typically pronounced more like true mid vowels. e̞ and ø̞. same with o as o̞.
    rs are usually only tapped word finally
    this is just me personally, i have a central scottish accent but not from either of the major cities. i just want to add more information to the pool.

    There are many different accents in Scotland. We do not all speak in the way you suggest. Someone in Inverness does not speak in the same way as someone in Aberdeen or Edinburgh etc. I have never said hoose ever in my life. To lump us all together is like saying all English speak the same way. Many of the words you mention as Scots actually come from the Doric not the Scots language.
