Man,, them suckers really did need a cleaning and a replacement... Mighty fine job there Cody... Personally,, I Hate doing Brakes... can do them, just ain’t my favorite part about working on vehicles... Hope ol’ Saint Nick was good to you,, and you have a great New Year....
Hi Cody , Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year . Nice little dog you have , heard his name is Larry . This was fun , like the other rebuild episodes . Real nice '57 Chevy ... keep enjoying it .
Brake shoe retainer tool ???? I don't know, but it sounds good to me.. You're the 2nd person today to mention Go-Pro issues.....Hummmmm... You got those rear brakes done very well!!
Hahaha yes it does lol and yeah mine has a mind of its on. I'll hit record and set it up them start working and when I'm done, I check the camera and it stopped recording lol Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching!
Back in the day when we did brake work on our Hot Rods we would clean up the drums (most of our old cars had them front and rear) and find some spray paint close to the same color as the car and spray the drums , if not the same color then the trim or pin strip color .
Great job Cody. The ole 57 going to stop nice with those new brakes. Your gettin closer to being on the road got to like that. Have a good one brother👍
When doing brakes i would lay out a shop rag or two and lay out my parts to keep them together and spray the parts that i would reuse with brake clean . Just like the drums get a ridge in them the backing plate where the shoes ride will get a wear ridge in them , i would use my drumel tool and smooth it down and use a dab of high temp silicon grease at each contact point . If you don't get those smoothed down the brakes click and hang on the ridges and will drive ya nuts to find what it is .
I still say one of the carts with air up tires tou can roll around to where the work is being done you can keep all the tools and parts you are going to use on it and the top of the cart can be used as a work bench . On the automatic adjuster aftrr you free it up i would put some of the high temp silicon grease on it to keep it moving free . What i used was from Napa it was a silicon cam lube came in a small tube but they had large tubes also , i would use. It on the floating caliper pens on the disk brakes also .
Christmas brake job !!!!!!cool ....Cody .....good thing you don't live where I do ...in Canada .... snowed in buried in the stuff freezing cold...No Global warming here.......even the electric cars stay home ..........looking good love the old cars..........Hey Cody ? what does a frog do when his car breaks down ??????????he get it toad............LolS .............
Lmao thats hilarious!! And thanks for the kind words and for watching! And yeah I bet its cold up there, luckily its been in the mid 70s here lately haha
Nice job Cody! I would suggest check that rear diff fluid level. Kinda looked like that was a little old gear oil on the brakes. Won't be long before its a daily driver! Have a good one Buddy 👍
@@danielventura8073 most of the newer cars don’t have carbuerators or overhead valves either. You’re right, classic cars are mortgage payment expensive right now. Too bad so many were crushed during Obama’s cash for clunkers program. That is why there are so many of them still left in Canada. 👍
Typical brake job on these cars , I've done many over the years, just like this, in the dirt and grass without any brake tools, no brake cleaner, and rebuilding wheel cylinders. Over the years I obtained proper tools, which made the job much easier. If you placed a piece of cardboard on the ground under the wheel you would be less likely to lose a small part, thus making you a true shade tree mechanic.
Looks good. We spent Xmas with our 3 kids, they're partners and our 7 grandkids. Lots of fun and a lot of food. Be safe and stay well.
Hey thats awesome! Hope you and yours had a great holiday season!

Very good tips my friend! Thanks for watching!
I heard people are liking Panasonic cameras for filming their channels.
I will look into that, thank you!
Hey CCC. Happy New Year. Nice job on the brakes. I love working out in my shop whenever I can as well. Thanks for sharing.🍁🍁👍👍
Thank you so much!!
Nice job Cody👍Theonly thing I would have done differently , is used some regular spray paint over the top of the primer 🤔
Thanks Howie! I appreciate you for watching, and yeah, I probably should have haha

Great job and a dirty one too rubber gloves may help with the dirt and grease
Thank you sir I really appreciate it!
I'm surprised at how some people get lost with drum brakes but have no problem swapping out disc brake pads
Yes sir thats very true, trial and error is the best way to learn. Thank you so much for watching!
Just one comment. Nice guy!
Those was some crusty brakes, you got it cleaned up and gonna have good stopping power! ✌
Thanks brother I really appreciate that!
🙁🙂👍👍👍👍
I can rebuild carburetors or adjust lifters all day long but I leave the brakes to someone who knows what they're doing. They are a mystery to me.
Brakes are pretty simple. I’m sure you could learn.
They can be aggravating sometimes thats for sure, the newer disc brakes are way easier. Thanks so much for watching!
@@stomper2582 I'm sure I could but, I don't have an old classic car or the money to buy one.
