  • Hey guys this is the disassembly portion of the Tremec T5 transmission series. I had to break it up into two different parts because youtube said it was too long (go figure). So this portion is the main case disassembly and the next video will be the disassembly of the main shaft... Enjoy Junkyard Doggin'!!!!

    I got respect for you Dogg your videos are real without the drama or clickbait titles to get views. I had to rebuild my T5 when it was new back in 1990. I was driving along not racing I put it in 3rd going 30mph and it broke 3rd gear which was common. I was young and had to figure it out with no manual or guidance cause Ford dealer denied the warranty with only 12k miles and 8months old. Luckily when I was ordering parts from our Lincoln dealer he asked who took it apart after I told him he said bring the car over and gave me the parts then watched as I built it. I had to bring the car so they could claim the warranty repair. I made a few mistakes but their lead tech checked the manual to help. He got the labor but I got my free $500 in parts at the time.
    That bolt head is called a "Tamper Proof Torx" if anyone needed to know. Ford makes some of their own hardware bolts, nuts and that Torx size is used for seat belt anchor bolts,seat track bolts, basically any bolt that are non reusable or have no need to be taken out. Newer seat belt designs have that style head to ward off bolt tampering for some reason. It's sort of a tell tale to take a look at the manual for info. I mean no disrespect by pointing it out just trying to help out by sharing my years of dealer experience where I can.

      You put it in 3rd going 30 and it broke....I'm going out on a limb and going to say they didn't believe you.

    My Fox has the non-syncro reverse one where I have to go into 5th before reverse. But my 3rd gear is the similar to that!
    . Can't ever go from 4 to 3, but 2 to 3 never has a problem. My downshifts be extra long , 4 - 2 - 3 lol

    if the rear main shaft bearing race comes out through the back, what holds it in place when you are shimming the front bearing retainer?

    • @JunkyardDoggs
      @JunkyardDoggs  5 лет назад

      The tailhousing has a half moon recess that the bearing race sits in. This is the main problem weakness of the t5 transmission

  • @BoxcarsGarage

    Your comment about getting a heat treatment for the input shaft bearing so it'll hold up longer. Is that something you can do yourself before reassembly if the new parts. If so how. Or can you can you buy one already done? Thanks....picking up my 85 s10 t5 today...im guessing it's from a 4cyl but not sure yet. Your video series is very important to me...thanks for the content!!!

    Next question...the speedo gear, 6, 7, 8....and the drive train considerations. How will I choose the one for my application? For consideration my drive train will not be high-performance....im running a 49 flathead and model a rear end. Thoughts?

    are 5th and reverse syncros interchangeable? if they are - should you switch them since 5th would have more wear?

    I have a non-WC T5 in an 87 2wd s10 Blazer and it is worn. Can it be rebuilt as a WC T-5? If so, is there any advantage to that?

    so the 9 1/4 shaft will fit a E6ZR bellhousing 5.0 302 ? my t5 is a 1352-246 is on the tag

  • @ufartface
    @ufartface 5 лет назад +1

    the reason the fifth-reverse lever bolt is tamper proof is people would remove it thinking it was a fill plug- oops

    Won't the V6 T5 work in any V8 if you use a SN95 bellhousing?

      @JunkyardDoggs  3 года назад +1

      Yes it will. Just a slightly different gear ratio but totally usable.

      @@justinbarron6556 they were designed to have a little give to them. Sometimes they dont return to the original shape. I can also be something wrong with the 5th/reverse hub, like a broken tab or deformed spring.
