You are NOT kidding! I scored a cheap, new in box deep fryer at a thrift shop yesterday. Today I picked up a couple of fillets of haddock from my local fishmonger and a few onions. Light olive oil in the fryer. Oh my goodness! Really delicious. I've eaten at some world-class joints in my day. It doesn't get better. Thanks for sharing, friend! I waited 'till I tried it before hitting 'like', and your breading ROCKS. I used your proportions, following your advice not to stress about exactitude. I did put a few oz. of a hoppy IPA in a dish to moisten after the first dredge, and did a 2nd pass. Mayo, mixed with relish plus a little lemon juice makes a good tarter sauce. I'm grateful that you shared this. Your friends are right
I am 63 years old Texan...been frying fish over 40 years.... this has changed my fish frying FOREVER ! WOW, I followed the recipe, more or less, used fresh fine grated parmesan cheese but about 1/2 as much... I put it on water moistened, butterflied gulf jumbo shrimp. I then made a VERY THIN milk / egg wash and dipped them in that, then smashed them into Panko bread crumbs. Let 'em dry. Quick fried the shrimp in peanut oil 1 -1.5 minutes. WOW was it good !! THANKS !!
My family is extremely picky. Had them watch this video together and they all agreed they'd try it if I made it. Thank you!! They loved it. I used Cod and cut into the same smaller pieces you did, just in case they didn't like it they would not waste a whole piece of fish. Adding this recipe to our menu!
We stumbled across this recipe a couple years back and we won't ever use any others! So delicious!... We butter our fish fillets first then coat in the breading. 😋
I made this and served to my husband. I was a little leary of doing so because he has his own seasoning recipe he uses. He loved it!! He said "I think that may be even better than mine.". I couldn't believe it. We both loved it.
OMG!! thank you..dust tried this tonight with some walleye..my go to from now on..much bettter than any store bought..love the parmeson cheese flavor! this is a win!
Excited to try this! My cousin in Ohio blessed us with 3 qt bags of walleye he caught on lake Erie. I've used 2 bags, 1 oven baked , 1 grilled in a foil pack and I have 1 left that my husband wants me to do a fish fry with. So excited to try it cause as soon as I saw you add the Parmesan I knew this was a winner. Thanks for sharing!! 😊
Just tried this recipe for crappie. Unbelievably good! My wife who doesn't really like fish absolutely loved it! Brought some to my neighbor who immediately asked for the recipe! My new go to for a shore lunch!
Tried this using bluegill and perch with my boys. Delicious! Thank you. Halved the recipe. I'm sure it could be modified. Love your humor about measurements!
Just tried this tonight. Perfect for my taste just as it is. Thanks so much, I really enjoy fish, but couldn’t find a recipe that I liked and that turned out well. Not everyone in family are fish lovers, but they seemed to enjoy the fish dinner we had tonight. 2 thumbs up!👍 👍
Great recipe!! Thank you for sharing!! I played around a little added onion powder and went with the Lawry’s salt free version in one batch because I need to watch my salt. I did another batch with a teaspoon of Cajun spice blend aka Slap Ya Mama for a little zip!
Def gonna give this a try on some whitings! I normaly use the McCormicks fish fry which isnt bad....but this sounds/looks way more flavorful....Thanks!
You know I randomly came across this video trying to learn how to fry the fish I have. Every single ingredient you use in this including my favorite fish, was used. Everything you use is my favorite.
Excited to try this Friday for my fish fry. I get to fry lots of walleye, as my husband loves to fish in the local walleye tournament in the fall here in northeast ohio and any other time he can haha. I dont like to use the store bought stuff and im never really happy with the breading I throw together. Thank you for sharing!!🙂
I like to substitute crushed/powdered saltine crackers for half of the cornmeal. Squeeze a little fresh lemon on the fish as soon as it comes out of the peanut oil. Thanks
I was looking for a good breading/batter and this is it. I'll use your recipe cause I don't think it can get any better especially with Lawry's Seasonning Salt and Walleye, the best tasting fish in me opinion.
I am going to try this tonight!! Im making fish taco ps for me and my girls so I will experiment with possibly taco seasoning or cyan pepper in the breading. But I am going to put some of your recipe aside to taste it on fish. Looks amazing.
I didn't think twice about the cheese until reading the comments. I've been experimenting with different options, and for a dry breading, I think this is now my go to. People, don't worry about the cheese comments, it's good, it doesn't taste cheesy, it's not weird, I'd have to try it without the cheese to see what difference the cheese makes. What I do love is the addition of the cornmeal, that's new for me and a nice touch. Highly recommend. I may try to add Cajun spices instead of the spices here just for a Cajun version. Thank you for the video and recipe. Ate some lake erie perch tonight. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Thank you! It is our new way of making fish! Works so well with pike! I don't season until it's in the pan, and use a dusting of Lawry's and course pepper. I also use a jalapeno mustard as a side dip!
1 My wife is by far the best cook at our house. So when I use your recipe, it at least made me comparable to one of her dishes. Because it's such a good recipe thank you for sharing.
wow this is good!! i have a lot of breading left over, since i put the fish like you in a Ziplock bag with the breading, can i re-use it in one month ?
yes its great stuff .i wouldnt like cheese on fish either but Parmesan is a total secret that unless you try it youll never know .only dif i got with your recipe is i use fresh dill in the batter too and a squirt of lemon just before the fish is done cooking
Why did Noah not bother fishing when he was on the Ark? Because he only had 2 worms to use as bait. Too bad for that because he would have loved this fish fry. Love this simplicity approach and how to, these are the best kinds of recipes! & tasty too!
@@wilderfish update 3 months later! WE USE THIS RECIPE EVERY TIME NOW! Amazing with any fish species! I’m from the mountains of South Dakota so we fry rainbow trout weekly! If anyone is wondering if it’s actually good. ITS AMAZING
Tried this…was a little skeptical about the Parmesan at first. I like this and will be using at a family fish fry. I intend to use it on shrimp and calamari as well. Thanks.
Wanted to come back to let you know I followed your instructions to a T and the fish prepared like this will always be my go to. It was delicious! Not a crumb left over. We had sm mouth bass, yellow & white striped bass and blue gill.

Today, I had little of this in a jar, so put it on some chicken and fried it. My husband thought I' gotten the chicken at a deli...it was good .
Yes it's great on chicken, I have used it on pork loin and even cube steak!

I just made it with tilapia fish and it’s good!! Thx!!
I love how everyone is talking bad about the cheese, yet never tasted it. Cant wait to try it
It really adds to the flavor. Think Chicken Parmesan... most people wouldn't put cheese on chicken either but the parmesan is excellent.
Nice and simple.good video
Put it on catfish nuggets and OMG! I can't believe how good it is! My wife ate it up and that's saying something
Used this recipe on some fresh caught walleye tonight! It was the best We ever had! Thank you for the recipe!

Use beer nstead of milk (The Dutch way), makes it very crunchy

Plan on catching catfish and crappie soon can’t wait!
I've had this breading on both and it's fantastic!
Trying this recipe today on some fresh bass we caught from the lake here in Alabama.
Let us know what you think!
wow this is good!! i have a lot of breading left over, since i put the fish like you in a Ziplock bag with the breading, can i re-use it in one month ?
Put it in the freezer to keep it fresh.
@@wilderfish thank you from Montreal!!
I added some Italian bread crumbs, very tasty.
Sounds great!
I will try it for sure. Whats your preferred oil to use?
Peanut oil if you can get it but really any good vegetable oil will work.
yes its great stuff .i wouldnt like cheese on fish either but Parmesan is a total secret that unless you try it youll never know .only dif i got with your recipe is i use fresh dill in the batter too and a squirt of lemon just before the fish is done cooking
Can the left over breading be saved for later use?
Yes you can put it in a ziploc bag and keep it in the freezer
It will get moldy fast if you do not Freeze
Yes freeze it.
Why did Noah not bother fishing when he was on the Ark?
Because he only had 2 worms to use as bait.
Too bad for that because he would have loved this fish fry.
Love this simplicity approach and how to, these are the best kinds of recipes! & tasty too!
Damn this looks good. Thanks you sir.
Phew! Finally! My lucky day is here!!🤸
Now go catch some fish.
do you use plain flour or is is self rising in thinkin plain flour thanks looks awesome either way
No just regular flour.
Just wondering do you take off the skin when cooking Walleye Fillets
Absolutely.
Im gonna try it on catfish.
You'll love it!
I was wondering if you could use breading on cat fish fillets?
Absolutely!
Trying it this weekend on some Blue Gill! I’ll update ya after! Fingers crossed🤞🏼
You'll love it!

Sounds great!
Would this batter work in the oven too?? I could spray some oil on top of the fish
Yes it will. I don't think it turns out quite as good but some people like it that way.
About how long do you leave them cooking on the oil?
Just long enough so they get nice and brown.
Hello! How long should the fish be in the oil (approximately) and what kind of oil did you use?
Really go by color rather than time. If you have the oil at 350-375 degrees it browns fairly quickly. Thicker pieces take longer.
What kind of oil?
@@zeal82I use peanut oil
Sounds great! Want to try this tonight. What kind of oil are you using? My apologies if you said.
Just vegetable oil, however some people prefer peanut oil.
Wanted to come back to let you know I followed your instructions to a T and the fish prepared like this will always be my go to. It was delicious! Not a crumb left over. We had sm mouth bass, yellow & white striped bass and blue gill.
@@wilderfish PS . I used peanut oil ♥️
If you make a batter how much milk or beef would you put into your basic recipe
I add enough milk to make it a batter, but not too thick. If it's real thick you get too much batter on the fish.
Is the flour and cornmeal plain or self rising?
Not self-rising.
What kind of oil do you use to fry in?
Most any quality vegetable or canola oil is good, but peanut oil is great if you can find it.
Can you control the salt content.
You could cut back on the Lawry's.
If you make a lot of breading do you need to refrigerate?
Yes I put the unused breading in the freezer.
What type of flour is it All purpose flour?
Yes
Don't stress, just use some flour. You could probably use almond flour if that's all you have 😅
What kind of oil?
Any frying oil. Some people prefer peanut oil, come vegetable oil, etc.
Do the peanut oil fella you'll really like it makes a big difference
@@tedarndt6254 I have tried them all, I don't notice much difference.
Metz Plaza
this guy is goofball....
