    The tip about knowing when your oil is ready is invaluable information! Thank you so much for the way to test it without a thermometer! Seriously, the first time I tried this before I looked up an actual video demonstration, I set off every smoke alarm in my house within seconds because my oil was way to hot and I had no way of knowing before I put in the fish. The recipe I used said that you should put oil on your stove burner on high and then add the fish and I literally turned the underside of the fish black within 10 seconds and almost burned my house down within 30 seconds! Its really easy not to take oil/grease cooking seriously until something goes wrong so this information was fantastic. Instant subscribe!

    So I finally made this tonight. I used one cup of Elsysum Bifrost winter ale which is a bitter pale ale which I suspect was part of the reason it came out so good, and for the fish I used flounder and it was exceptional! I've had fish fry at many restaurants over the years, but very rarely does it ever come out this good!

    Try Guiness as a beer, great taste,also season batter a little, let it run slowly off Wood spoon, then it ready.
    Pat fish in flower before batter, helps it stick better.
    Cook at 120c increasing to 135c untilgoldenand sealed and serve asap for the taste.
    My way is a large fillet piece of cod in UK.

    Thank you for putting the recipe in the description it is very much appreciated. I have come across a numerous amount a videos that say things like here's the ingredients that I have to pause every 2 seconds to write them down or I have to go to their page to navigate through just to try and find one simple recipe that ends up not even being found. It would be much appreciated however if you could put substitutes for the ingredients that you have such as I may not have cornmeal or Old Bay seasoning what other Alternatives could I use? I do not have a lot of money and I'm kind of working with what I have in my house at the moment which is basic flower baking soda and breadcrumbs things of that nature. If you could suggest some alternatives it would be very helpful thank you for your recipe and also having something so simple as the recipe in the description.

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  7 лет назад

      Hi there JokerToker and thanks for writing in....you can substitute the corn meal with bread crumbs and for the old bay seasoning, you can keep it simple and substitute with salt and black pepper....you can use 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of blk pepper. Hope you give this recipe a try and that it is a big success for you :)

      Thundermist Lures How do you prepare your fish fillets for cooking? Do you let them soak in something overnight or cook them as soon as you get home from a day of fishing? I'm curious to know. And this will work for any fish, correct?

    • @thundermistlures

    • @thundermistlures

      Cast iron pans work great, but this time I did not use cast iron and for the oil, you do not need to completely cover the fish...1/2 inch of oil is sufficient, but if you wanted to add more, it certainly wouldn't hurt any :) Thanks for writing in Mike and good luck

    Do I have to use baking powder I have everything except the baking powder

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  5 лет назад +1

      ....the baking powder is what makes the batter "fluffy" - so you can still make it, and it may not be as "fluffy", but one way to help is to just not mix as much once you add the beer...the beer will help with the "Fluffiness" as long as it's not flat nor beaten too much - good luck and hope you enjoy your fish fry :) :) This is a great recipe

    The reason why there are great holes in the batter, which would have let the oil in and made the whole thing greasy, is presumably that he omitted the usual preliminary step of flouring the fish.
    I can't really understand why so many people are jumping in with these recipes when the proper method is so well known.

    This looks so good! I want to try it but I'm only 17 so I cant buy beer. Is their any age restrictions buy-non alcoholic? Well, its pobably different in Canada, here in the U.S the drinking/buying age is 21.
    Well Anyways Great Video!!

      I've used Seltzer water and club soda in the past. The beer is really just adding carbonation to the batter that the seltzer or club soda will do just fine. I did it with catfish to test it and it came out the same as beer.

      myoutdooradventures1031 really? Sweet! I didn't know what the beer actually did to the batter, I'm gonna give it a shot with the seltzer water, thanks!

      I prefer to use Sprite soda. The sweetness adds another flavor element.

      You can buy non-alcoholic beer at your age and if not, you can alwyas substitute with water and as one of our our subscribers mentioned, soda water will do the same thing :)

    Followed this recipe to the letter. Fish came out beautiful. The only problem I had was that I put the completed fish on a dish with paper towels to dry. When we were ready to eat, the fillets were all soggy./ How do I keep them from getting soggy till serving time?

      Hi Darth - in this video, at around the 4 minute and 40 second mark, yo uwill see me put the fish on a metal track and I explain that this will help keep you fish cripsy :)

      Darth Mal get yourself a wire rack. It should be in the baking isle. It’s excellent for drying things without using a paper towel as it circulates air underneath. Pretty cheap too

    Corn meal same as corn starch???

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  5 лет назад

      Hi Misty - they are totally different....the corn meal is granular (i.e like a bread crumb) and the Corn Starch is powdery (i.e. like flour) and is used many times as a thickening agent :)
