As far as the twisties go, this thing is just unreal. Awesome. I think you will find it a lot lighter in the turns than your ZZR1400. Nearly effortless.
Brilliant bike, brilliant sound and thanks for sharing. Also thanks for not sticking a stupid music track over this. Only criticism is that the gearchanges lack a bit of mechanical sympathy :)
I think it would be great! You would likely want the "high" seat. That's a no-charge option. Also you should spend some time at k1600forum. Lot's of info there. (sorry, youtube won't let me post a link here.)
regarding the clunky shifts: The mic was intentionally placed to pick up engine noises. On this bike the transmission is located near the top of the engine and the mic is inches away. In the cockpit you wouldn't hear anywhere near that much noise. That being said, the K1600, like most BMWs does have a very clunky trans, particularly at revs under about 4K. But in the cockpit you would never be hearing this much racket. Not nearly that much "clunk' or nearly that much exhaust note.
How much mpg do you get with 1.6 litre engine? I think its sounds amazing, like an old bmw e30 or e36 from the 90's but the sound its more "airy" if thats an english word . You can really notice it here where he gets on it at 2:23 .
As far as the throttle goes, I don't find it vague at all. Now there have been a couple of software updates that have changed the throttle response, so some of the info you have seen may have been from before those udpates occurred. Most people find the throttle a bit over-reactive at first. But after a few hours, it seems quite natural. At least to me. Start off in rain mode for a couple days if it seems too twitchy. Then you can graduate to Road and Dynamic modes as you get used to it.
Mmmm, eithter the gearbox is very clunky, or you do not know to shift, especially downwards. Blip the throttle when you shift down, and do it a lot quicker. And when shifting upwards close the throttle more, instead of letting the engine climb into the rev's. And furthermore , what's the use of stopping and putting you foot down where there's no traffic visible for miles?
yup sounds like a motorbike now, not like a singing kettle. BTW, has bmw improved the pillion rider seat for comfort? Noticed the side cushions and handles were just too low for passenger comfort.
As for for the comment asking why I stopped at the two stops signs, well in addition to trying to be a good neighbor on my own street, the purpose of this video was to provide owners of GTL's with examples of the sound from the modified exhaust including at idle. So I left some longer idle periods in the video. That was also the reason for the microphone placement.
Good video thanks mate, enjoyed that. I am in the market for one of these I think. I'm switching over from a ZZR1400 (ZX14R to you ;)). How do you find the throttle control? I've read it's a little vague as its fly-by-wire, is this true? Also, what is it like in spirited riding on twisty roads? Stable? Your views would be great! Ride safe.
Most warranty's become null and void if any modification are done during the warranty period. Not just to the component modify but the whole bike. Engine, transmission, etc. Just a though.
red59rider Because your GT already has the holes drilled from the factory. The difference between the GT and GTL stock exhausts is that the GT cans have three small holes drilled in the sides of each dummy chamber. This is why your GT "sounds fine." GTL's have solid walls in the dummy chamber plugs. A stock GTL without the holes sounds like a sewing machine.
I bought a new bike last year, the choice was between 1200 RT and 1600 GT. The choice was easy, the sound of 1600 GT was at low revs uncomfortable to listen to. Possible that another muffler makes sewing machine sound less prominent. No 1600 GT until it's done something with this unpleasant sound.
Love the bike. Rider needs to learn how to ride. I see premature final drive failures and broken shift linkages in his future. Thanks for the video, but you are totally out of synch/touch with that motorcycle. It must be your first BMW.

i love the sound while accelerating. i sounds like an aston martin :D
Hey Chris. I didn't take any pics, at least yet. But I just put a link in the Description above that will take you to the details of the mod.

man you need a quick-shifter for changing gears.

I get 47 mpg out of my GTL.
x3m5p33d3r I get about 42 on average. I can get 50+ by riding at 55mph. At 85, your down to around 35. Just depends on how you ride.
Roy Wood Still thinking about doing the mod... any negatives Roy?
.
SlinKO PluSh None that I've noticed. Been going strong for almost 3 years and 35K miles.

Le compteurs sont jolis mais dommage que l'on ne voit pas le paysage et la route.
Ah, i see the bay bridge! fellow marylander here
Amazing sounds,I like it
No so. For a mod to invalidate the warranty it must be shown that the mod caused or impacted on the failure.
thank you roy wood

is that the proper location for the spot mirrors I have had them on the outside and inside locations on autos.
Care to elaborate? I honestly have no idea what your can of tuna analogy is supposed to mean.
Great videos, awesome bike! Thanks! What camera did you use?
sounds good
Very nice beautiful sound of six cylinders, very exciting but it is a pity that the gearbox is so noisy !!!!!

I love it! did you take any pics? or explain in more detail how to do this mod? I love it!
Sound nice but is it comfortable in long ride?

The guy couldn't get on it in this vid because of cops in the area, but he opens the throttle up the most starting around 6:14
in my opinion you should use more clutch.

I have a GT Sport, the exhaust note sounds fine. Why would you drill holes in the exhaust? That's something Harley riders do.

Roy Wood if you need that much attention with a loud bike, why nott join the knob head Harley owners club! you have spoilt a beautiful machine.
Hi is that key west..?????
+Clive Crompton No, that's Annapolis, MD. The bridge is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge that runs from Annapolis to Kent Island on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
Française fonctionne très bien. Je vous remercie de votre attention.
where did you get the spot mirrors ?
+william beck I picked them up at Walmart
+Roy Wood damn I like them.
Like a jet!
That bike was ment to be a cruiser, comfortable and quite. If it doesn't drives u crazy after a 10 hours ride thats OK!

shit sounds crazy
Le point de la vidéo était de fournir audio de la modification d'échappement.
dam I love those bikes but no way in hell I could afford the service & repairs on one of those.
it's not only the gearbox, it's also the driver. Sorry to say, but no feeling at all.

still sounds like a combination of a car with a vacuum cleaner :(
