Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had one day to alter a costume for my dance recital, and I followed this tutorial and it turned out PERFECTLY! It was my fist time making significant alterations to a dress before and I couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out.
Hi Anastasia, I have a waistless shift dress whose neck does not lay flat. The waist and dress fit well, but the neckline droops. How might I remedy that? I'd appreciate your feedback.
Thank you! Great video! I just took in my wife's dress following your steps. (First one ever). Turned out great! She is thrilled! Many blessings! - Guy 😊❤🎉
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad the video was helpful and that your wife's dress turned out great. Keep up the good work and many blessings to you both!
Thank you for showing all the steps (not just how to pin) like sketching the lines and backstitching! Other videos always left me guessing on the best way to do the process. I know some sewing machine basics but didn't know how to finish the garment properly.
Thankyou so much for this! I've just lost almost 42 lbs in weight. Few more to go yet. Chuffed that I can get into my old clothes but also have a few that now need to be taken in. ❤❤❤
SweetTea Stephens I guess cause I didn’t think it was more important then process. Next time I’ll make sure I’m good about the before & afters!! Promise !!! 🎀🎀💕💖💞🙌🏻
Sew Anastasia thank you. Yea it helps me know if you know what you’re talking about (not you specifically I know you do but in general sense you know) and if it’s something that looks good. Thank you for the process tho. I have some things I need to alter and have been putting it off. This seems easy really. 😊💕
@@SewAnastasia You are fantastic! I had thought about calling my made-over wardrobe my Prior Attire, but discovered that name had already been taken on a YT channel. Not to worry, though. What brand I refer to my nuwear as need not be revealed. All former tags hanging in the closet shall stay in the closet! I am stepping out in style. Happy fall, y'all! 🎃
For sure! I often get so excited by projects that I forget to take before and afters, but I keep getting better. Check out this newer video I made on taking a dress to fit you: ruclips.net/video/cE6kUCu8neA/видео.html I remembered to the dress after taking it in! 😊
I have a shift dress cap sleeves designed to drop straight down front and back, which needs to be taken in at the underarm. I’m D cup and need a dart to shape the front too. Is it possible without major changes?
You are looking to add a dart to an existing dress? Yes, you can just add a dart anywhere you want to help shape the dress to your liking. Just pin up the excess you need taken in and sew it up. 🎀
Hi Anastasia. Can you please do a video on how to make a top smaller? I bought a nice new top recently but didnt realise i lost weight and its so baggy on me now! or could i use this dress video for making my top smaller?
Ryoko007 hi! Depending on the top you could totally use this dress video for making the top smaller! Let me know if you have questions & I’ll try to get a video out on specificity taking in a top
@@SewAnastasia Ooh! please do 1 specifically for a top! will make it easier for me. Im not a professional or anything. I have a sewing machine, and just sew clothes that have ripped, the best i can. But i recently managed to shorten a skirt for my 14yr old daughter by watching your, how to hem or shorten a skirt video. it fits her so much better now. Thanks for posting that too. Got a few of mine to shorten still. i want to become a pro at sewing soon. so happy to have found your easy to follow videos. 😊
Well you don’t want to cut too close to the seam. You need at least 1/4 inch seam so your garment doesn’t rip apart. You also might want to zig zag your seams together or over cast them together to make them stronger. You can also serge your edges to clean them up.
I haven't tried this yet but had a question. What if the shoulders on the dress are wider than my own shoulders. It seems like the dress and sleeves would fit once I followed the tutorial but the shoulders would still be too wide. Am I not thinking this through correctly?
You will have to take off the sleeve & cut the shoulder off & put back on the sleeve. I have another tutorial on tailoring a dress where I move the sleeve & shoulder. Check it out.
Hi Anastasia, this is so awesome thank you so much, but how do you hem a dress with a zipper on one side 🤔 my hips are bigger than my chest so I had to go up a size with no girls to fill it in 🥺 thanks for your help ❤️
Good question! You do it the same way. The zipper at the side should not effect the hem of the dress unless you are making it super short and then you might need to shorten your zipper. If you need to take in the dress at the side and the zipper is there. You are going to have to remove you zipper, cut off the extra fabric and then put your zipper back on. I hope that answers your question. Happy Sewing!
@@SewAnastasia oh right okay well I've managed to take it in without taking the zip out, I'll definitely keep this in mind for the future though thanks!
I do not understand. Yes you also need to take in the lining the same way as the fashion fabric. You want your lining to be 2 inches shorter than the outside fabric. I hope that helps.
hello very nice young lady I love all your videos. please kindly film a full video tutorial all about your juki industrial sewing machine and pretty please kindly film some sewing videos using your juki industrial sewing machine please ok?please kindly film ok?please kindly reply back ok?thank you very much

This was very informative and you explained every step clearly, thank you! Just wish I could have seen the before and after to compare
Yeah I realized after the video was up I should have done that. I make sure to do it in all my new videos!
Hello! Thank you for this! I've seen some methods which say to take the sleeves off to realize before putting back on but this seems much easier!
Hi 👋 Yeah this is a super easy way to do it! If you don’t need to take in the shoulder I would leave the sleeves on.
Love how beginner-friendly this vid is.

Super easy tutorial! Thanks!

Hi! Love your video. Super easy to follow. I am wondering if this technique works also for dresses with a super stretchy fabric??

When do you take sleeve off to make it fit rather than doing continuously as you did

Love your video...love that chalk pen. What brand is it. The ones I get do not mark as easy as yours.
It is from the quilting section at joann fabrics! I do not know the name of it.
Very well done!
Thank you 😊
Your tutorials are really good. My dress has a lining that is only attached at the low heart shaped neckline. The dress has spaghetti straps
Nice! Happy tailoring and send pics when your done! I would love to post them! Thank you for watching.
It’s worth the extra few minutes to undo the original seam before sewing, so that the other side doesn’t catch or pucker.
Hi! Could you give me some advice on how to take in a dress that is rayon fabric?
If i wanted to cut the extra fabric off, what if there are little fabrics left that are too close to the new seam line?
Well you don’t want to cut too close to the seam. You need at least 1/4 inch seam so your garment doesn’t rip apart. You also might want to zig zag your seams together or over cast them together to make them stronger. You can also serge your edges to clean them up.

Nice video… love your energy! But I’m confused as to why you didn’t cut off all that excess at the seams, getting rid of all the bulk.
I didn’t because it’s a vintage dress & I wanted to keep the extra incase I ever want to make it bigger.
Well…THAT makes total sense! I didn’t think of that lol 🤣 thx for your reply!

I used to love this style of dress. Very flattering. Again in my case, LOL I need a video in making things looser😛
Sew Anastasia 👍❤️
It would help to see the dress on you before you start the adjustments and again after it is finished.
Thank you for the suggestions. Iv started showing more of that in my new videos. Thank you for watching!
Hi Anastasia. How did you 60s dress turn out? x
Jacqueline Horton it turned out great!
I have a dress with a side zipper, do you have a video for this?
What about a dress with a side zip?
Take out the zipper, take it in & then put the zipper back in. I think I have a video about tailoring a dress with a side zip.
@@SewAnastasia oh right okay well I've managed to take it in without taking the zip out, I'll definitely keep this in mind for the future though thanks!
The lining goes all the way down inside the dress and it can be separated. How do I do this part?
I do not understand. Yes you also need to take in the lining the same way as the fashion fabric. You want your lining to be 2 inches shorter than the outside fabric. I hope that helps.
You’re voice and talking style sounds like Brittney (the cheerleader) from that old MTV show Daria
Lol 😂 awesome 👏 too funny.
Please is this an a line dress???
I don’t like that she didn’t show the end results. But overall very informative!
omgosh no before and after!!
Zooey Deschanel is that you?

frank janvari sure thing
I’ll bet the under arms on that dress puckered worse than a dogs tale hole
Not at all actually because this is a method you can use to construct a garment.
Dogs don’t get tale holes because they can’t tell tales. Also, only lizards can drop their tails, so dogs can’t have that type of tail hole either.
