    In other news, British luxury and supercar manufacturers have been experiencing some major changes, but are there great things on the horizon, or is this yet another reshuffling of debt and talent within an ageing industry?
    Our five professionally unprofessional Addicts discuss these points and more, in Episode 58 of the Collecting Addicts podcast.

    All right, we're 58 episodes deep into this podcast. I have listened to all of them, and noticed, that you didn't talk about one extremely important topic; center console/armrests. What is good about them, what's bad, and why the hollow and floating ones always look and feel like cheap crap?

    • @NewCastleIndiana
      @NewCastleIndiana 2 месяца назад +3

      I like my current car’s Solution. It’s not a center console, it’s just a portion of a continuous wraparound cockpit. My new Corvette is entirely driver focused. That is how the car should be. The passenger side is set up in such a way that encourages them to just keep their hands clasped in their lap and not fidgeting with anything that’s going to distract me.

    • @jakubjabl
      @jakubjabl 2 месяца назад

      @@NewCastleIndianaThat Corvette's wraparound piece is a beautiful solution. Speaking about the floating ones I had in mind the 2023 electric Renault Megane, which I have been using at work for some time, but certainly, some other cars have a similar shape of center console. It seems to be an issue with more vertical space in crossovers and SUVs (which I'm skeptical about). The DBX has a hollow space which is, to me, aesthetically barely acceptable, but DB12, on the other hand, has a small shelf in the same place and it's fine - looks purposeful, not like a space that designers had no idea how to make use of.

    "Sled Driver: Flying the World's Fastest Jet" by Brian Shul Thank you Neil, inspirational without question. This should be on the national curriculum to inspire young people today. You guys mentioned Brand Beckham in Episode 58 with what meaning in life and what guidance. Brian Shul sets the bar where Brand Beckham must be flying a Mig!

    59:02 Thank you Neil for introducing Brian Shul. Always been fascinated by the SR-71, I had never crossed paths with the OG Sled driver before.
    Brian’s speech goes much deeper than just the coolest plane ever made - what a down-to-earth and courageous man he was with an appreciation for a life well-lived.
    To me Neil’s recommendation here speaks also of him and it reminds of his stated admiration of the American values, as well as his occasional recollections of the decent people he has met on his journeys, such as in Australia.
    So thanks again for a stellar episode, and thank you Neil for being the stand-up guy you are!

    Favourite YT video was CH’s Lister drive at Goodwood. The noise when all the cars took off. That video really got me as was to me the turning point in RUclips content and how it could be a proper source of decent content. Not just tools with their phone camera going bad covers of songs and awful one takes of their own stuff 🤪

CH sometimes being bossy with him definitely gives out a wrong vibe about both CH and his relationship with Edward in my opinion.

    Neil at Aston would be amazing. A real petrol head that would love to see the brand succeed. I do think AM are going in the right direction but they’ve got ahead of themselves with the pricing of the Vantage and DB12. Hopefully this new CEO bloke won’t kill AM racing, it’s the only thing providing legitimacy to the brand still as a real sports car manufacturer etc

    How can you talk about converting classic/historic cars to electric without mentioning Electric Classic Cars in Wales? Do you know, due to the UK regulations, how difficult it is to convert an "historic" car to electric and for it to remain registered as Historic? You can't drill one extra hole or change the car in any way. We are not talking about whether you should or not, that's a matter for the individual. You need to get someone who is in the EV space.

    2 Car Garage:
    You need 2 cars at your South of France condo, which you visit a few times a year. You let family and close friends use the house and they are allowed to use both cars. One car will be used for the grocery shopping and the occasional outing/dinner, the second one will be a more sporty convertible you can pick for your solo run to get the croissants. No budget, as you wouldn't let your mum or non-car minded friends drive a Monza SP2 for example.

    I agree with Neil on this with regards to Lunaz, who exactly were they appealing to? Car folk who have the fortunate position to buy a either a sports car or a classic sports car, buy them because of the engine, the sound etc which EV's don't provide. It was a doomed from the start when the target market simply went "Meh".

      I think they are focusing on it's failure because it's an EV start up, not it's poor business decisions on their own. LEVC TX have passed 15,000 black cabs. I don't think the idea of hybrid or electric inner city vehicles stops with Lunaz. If you compare TVR that had 250 deposits and government support, it has failed not because they were not EV. But bad business expansion.

    The motorway we need is extending the A329(M) so you don't have to go across all the roundabouts of Bracknell to get from the M4 to the M3 and M25

    I kind of understood the appeal of those classic ev conversions (low maintenance modern convienience) but at the same time the appeal of those classics are the looks and power train combination of them.

    2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 2.8D. What do you think Mr. Harris? I was very impressed with/ TG review. Could your pod have a section on work horses? Couple of your mates are diehard Land Rover. 11mil Land Cruiser sold over 170 countries says it all. What do you think if you had to have 1 for every possible task, what’s your pick.

    As an aussie yes Melbourne has infrastructure and far too many cameras! Sydney and London might be on par for infrastructure incompetancy. Lucky for us collecting addicts is well oiled machine!!

    Tesla a fraction of IPO? Really?
    I'm a zealous hater for their fails, but that doesn't seem right. There's been stock splits, right?

    Why would you electrify a classic Aston? Who would want one?

      “Who would want one?”
      It dosent take a genius to notice that many people just like cars for the fashion statement/expression of wealth.
      So removing all of the elements which might bother them (the maintenance associated with ice cars) is what a lot of rich folks want.
      It’s fine to not like the process (I despise it) but don’t pretend to not understand the motives of those who do want to turn their classic motor into a glorified gold kart.

    14:03 "Tesla, Rivian, Lucid. All of their shares are a fraction of what they IPO'd at" - Rivian are well down on their IPO price (about 1/12th of where they started), and Tesla might be 1/2 what they *peaked* at, but today they are trading at 130x what they IPO'd at. I suppose 130/1 is a kind of fraction.

    English people tell directions in motorway titles and junction numbers, Scottish people describe physical locations as we actually have some countryside features to look at
