  • Yes, my friends, this record is official and can be seen documented here: bit.ly/1Na2HZx
    Record was achieved by my sister, Irina Rudometkina, and stands to this day.
    I hope you enjoy! She's only a girl here (still a teen) and already holds world record!

    Good strength all-around in the upper body, but her grip strength and the ability to hold on for so long is what really impressed me!

    • @alhassan1995
      @alhassan1995 8 лет назад +9

      +Kareem Saïid wrong, men have %20 more muscle mass on the upper body than women, there's no excuse.

    • @climbscience4813
      @climbscience4813 8 лет назад +11

      +Hassan dabashi I agree, there is no excuse. However grip strength to body weight ratio does scale with absolute body weight. That's why the best rock climbers in the world are pretty light. However, there also is the former bouldering world champion Jan Hojer who weighs around 80 kgs and does pull ups on ONE FINGER, so no, there is indeed no such thing as an excuse. I also disagree with the statement "thats because she doesnt weigh as much as us men". No, that's because most guys don't have the mental fortitude and training drive that this girl has.

    • @climbscience4813
      @climbscience4813 8 лет назад +1

      +Kareem Saïid Did you take a look at Jan Hojer? He does carry a significant amount of muscle and IIRC he held the bouldering world chamption title recently. However, I agree with you generally, being light weight is an advantage in climbing. Never wanted to deny that. However, for most climbers, a big teres major, lattisimus dorsi and big forearm muscles are an advantage rather than a disadvantage as these muscles translate very well to climbing performance.

    • @climbscience4813
      @climbscience4813 8 лет назад +1

      Jake McCoy is right but I am going to add this I actually said in my post above, that being skinny helps being a good climber as strength to weight ratio does depend on absolute body weight. The main points that I was trying to get across were:
      1. Most people should not worry about it too much if they're not going to compete in a sport.
      2. It doesn't take away from the achievements of lighter people (like the girl in the video).
      3. Increasing the size of certain sport specific muscles can still increase your strength to body weight ratio in your sport.

  • @Fjerid
    @Fjerid 8 лет назад +1

    Question: Does being heavy/heavier make it harder to perform pull ups? I mean, of course it does, you would think. But surely the proportion is the same. Skinny means less weight but also smaller and less strong muscles.

    • @climbscience4813
      @climbscience4813 8 лет назад +1

      +Fjerid There is an optimal point for that. If you look at competitive rock climbers for instance, the vast majority is between 54-64 kg when they are in competition shape, with a few exceptions here and there. Rock climbing is a lot more complex than doing pull-ups, but those numbers give you an idea. ;-)

    • @Fjerid
      @Fjerid 8 лет назад

      ClimbingCalisthenics Aaah. So being light weight does benefit calisthenics practitioners!
      What if I'm a bulking dude who happens to train bodyweight only? Any tips on that? I have noticed my reps are significantly lower than before as I gained a few kg's.

    • @climbscience4813
      @climbscience4813 8 лет назад

      +Fjerid Well, it really depends on how much weight you gain. Something like 5 lbs will not make a huge difference, even though I noticed a quite big improvment when I lost 3 kg in 3 months. A part of that was actual improvement in the skills though as I trained a lot in that time. The way I see it, you will still get way stronger if you train at a higher body weight, but you might be able to perform more pullups etc. at a lower weight. I still find it more impressive if a heavy guy can do one arm pull ups or push ups than if a slim guy can do it. Also, there are exceptions. If you look at Jan Hojer for instance, he does one-arm pull ups with one finger at 80 kgs body weight. I would personally train at the body weight you feel the most comfortable at. To me, carrying a little muscle mass and being strong in absolute numbers is a part of being comfortable, so that's that.

    • @Fjerid
      @Fjerid 8 лет назад +1

      +ClimbingCalisthenics Well said. I shall keep gaining weight untill I achieved my goal which is 75 KGs. If thats not comfortable i'll slim it down to 72-70. Thanks for your input lad!

    • @climbscience4813
      @climbscience4813 8 лет назад

      ***** I think you're right about the typical cutting/bulking mentality working not so well for calisthenics. However, I think the main reason might be related to technique changes during a bulk and having to change technique if your weight distribution and total weight as well as psychology. If you gain weight at the same rate that you gain strength, you will not be able to do more pull-ups or push ups, so it doesn't feel like you've progressed. What I must say though is that cutting is a lot of fun when you're doing calisthenics. You suddenly feel a lot of progress in your training and you suddenly look better too... :-)

      @@ottomanpapyrus9365 If you watch rock climbers they will often rest hanging from one hand while shaking the other out. Being allowed to shift about on the bar does something similar. I have heard numerous reasons like getting lactic acid out or blood flow going. The male pullup record is 651 pullups, he did not let go of the bar the entire time, but was allowed to hang from one hand and shake the other one out. You can see guys like Tazio doing records and he can do far less reps if the grip is kept.
