I do I get a job with narrow boats.
We made a Llangollen canal boat trip years ago, took two weeks of just going slow. Walks on the canal paths, visiting other boaters, historic sites. Of all our travels it was the most relaxing ever. My wife settled in, we would stop at small villages for supplies, classic pubs for a brew. Always wanted to go back but never made it, but we have found memories. Thanks for your videos. BC Canada
It sounds perfect!
That was the most genuine ad read I think I’ve ever seen from a youtuber. Bravo 👏
Oh bless you, thank you. I was rather anxious about it but meant every word.
@@CruisingTheCut You’re welcome, and there’s no shame in advertising. That’s the name of the game on here. If advertising someone’s product you believe in helps the channel and helps you then I’m fairly sure you have most everyone’s support.
@@Halfstep2024I can also vouch for the Readly product. It’s a great way of reading magazines, especially the ones you might not otherwise purchase. You are also able to share your subscription with four other people.
@@CruisingTheCutWe could easily tell how passionate you were about the product, you did an absolutely great job. Sponsor spots can be rather enjoyable when the creator genuinely likes the product, it feels less like mere corpo approved talking points and more like a friend telling you about this wonderful thing he found. :)
If you do more sponsor spots like that then I'm sure nobody will have a problem with it and you can rest easy knowing that you haven't alienated your fans, if somebody somehow does have a problem then he or she can just skip it.
David, can you download a magazine issue for offline reading with that app?
Thank you for the kind words about Scarlet Lady 💃💃
Connor has always done a great job in helping me out when ive had to dash off for work.
Ps also love Readly!
Reverse layout - much better access to tea and sandwiches for the skipper...lol
also wont track any dirt stuck to your shoes through your sleeping area.
Lovely video today David 😊, Seems like Connor really does know how lucky he is to have such a great job. No desks, and plenty of beautiful sights and sounds. 😁
You may not own a boat but you seem to have no problem finding good content for the channel very entertaining thank you
Thank you!
A delightful video and bravo to that young man for spotting that business opportunity 👏
Thanks ❤
One of those things you probably never think about-moving boats. Connor is a professional, and someone who I feel I'd trust with a boat (if I had one)
That was my feeling about him too!
Awww thanks guys I do as they say go above and beyond 😊best way
What an enterprising young man to come up with the idea of moving other peoples boats. Thanks for telling us all about it.
That was great David. I think this way of what you are doing things these days was the best decision. Your content has been wonderful. Thanks.
Thank you!
I met him last year at Hatton Locks - top man!
Fascinating. It reminded me of when I used to do trade plating. Hitching to pick up a vehicle, driving it to a delivery point, and hitching back home. It's nice to see a young man loving his job. Thanks for the vid. ilona
You are the perfect person to produce stories like this. Professionally trained presenter and very knowledgeable about the subject. 👍
Thank you
If I was to ever go to England, I'd definitely have to go down a canal on a narrowboat. It seems you meet the most polite people the country has to offer. Probably hit as many pubs along the way as humanly possible. Lol
Beautiful boat, Connor seems very good. It was a brilliant vlog as always from you. I must get a pad so I can get the magazine's thank you so much . Take care Blessings to you XXX
Works on any tablet or phone ;-)
A wholly pleasant young man, a beautiful boat and another chugging down the waterways - yes, it's a jolly vid from David. Lovely!
I was worried, when you sold your boat, that you'd soon run out of topics & your channel would fade away...
However, you seem to be going from strength to strength... I'm amazed at each new topic!
This was one of my favourite vlogs & reminds me of my cousin who used to make his living delivering yachts around the Mediterranean
It has been fine watching Connor move this fine narrowboat. Thank you for the tour inside,
All these years on and I’m still enthralled as ever with both the channel and unique gem that is the Canal system! In every video, virtually without fail, there is something that makes me smile or makes me wish I could find that pace of life for myself and my loved ones. The world needs slowing and appreciating these days. All the best to the good gentleman moving boats and to your future endeavors! I will, as always, hoist a cold one when I finally slow down for the day!
Hi David... another great video ... and you are right, sometimes just being a passenger is best. Always fun watching!
Oooh. I've got a paid gig to move a boat for someone when needed but I've never thought about doing that full time.
That’s the first product I’ve ever seen advertised on RUclips that I’ve gone and signed up for! Really impressed with it too! As always great video
Thank you! 😀😀
Ok, I’m sold. Planning a narrowboat vacation…from the US, a little challenging, but I’ll prevail!
These type of ads, were the presenter is genuinely interested in it, are so much better than the scripted ones, hope more ads like this will come and help the channel to thrive. Another great video, thank you David and Cheerio!
Delightful video and what an enterprising chap Connor seems to be. Really enjoyed his stories. This was great, David! And you did Readly proud too!
What a peaceful and interesting video. Exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks David!
Ah! you have discovered the "simple joy of being a passenger on someone else's narrowboat" David. I suppose I should not be surprised but I am as you have previously provided the virtual version of this delight to the likes of me over the last few years.
Well done, reminds me when you had your own boat.
You continue to come up with interesting and unique takes on the canals and canal boating. Nice video, thanks.
I really enjoy your taking us along on your new trips and seeing inside the boats.
All your back stories make for interesting videos. I have been following you from almost the very beginning and you never disappoint. Thanks for taking us along.
Blimey, that’s literally at the end of my garden and Lyon’s is over the road. Would have been lovely to say hello. Oh well. Great video. Great idea by Connor.
Great video..this is a keeper..please do more of this kind of boat supporting industry ..vary nicely done..I think people would love this . and we still get boating adventures
Thank you!
If I had a Narrowboat, Connor is someone I'd definitely have in my list of contacts. Indispensible piece of info. Fascinating aspect of canaling, all those boats in the shipyard. Thanks David. Great little video.
There are some awesome nontraditional jobs in this world thanks for showing us another one wish i was younger and healthier 😀 keep on boating
That was a great video David. You explain things so everyone understands. What a nice young lad to shift boats. He has great enterprise. Regards from New Zealand.
Nothing like finding a productive niche!
nothing like David on a Narrow boat. Love it !
Another lovely vlog! Narrowboat mover would be an enjoyable line of work. Glad to hear Connor has lots of jobs on the go, too. Fun to see you dipping your toe into the world of sponsored content.
Delightful as usual David, the only things missing from the tour was a heron and the cheese sandwich! Cheers, from David downunder in NZL.
Cheers!
What a great job Connor has. What a great contact to have if you're too busy to move your own boat. Thanks, David.
Hi David!
That's quite a fancy boat, ins't it?
It certainly is!
Great video as usual. So enjoyed it.
Sweet gig. Good on him. Nice job David. 🎉
Connor's doing some good work on the canals. Maybe you could do a series on people who work on the canals or beside them David?
But that's exactly what I've been doing for the last two years!
@@CruisingTheCut Sorry,I haven't watched all of your videos.
What a great job. Excellent vlog thank u 🙏
Hi
This maybe one of your better vlog ( except all are great ) What a neat job - love the boat layout.
Good to see you nice and relaxed, on a narrow boat.🇦🇺🙏👍
David, that was such a super vlog. You never fail to surprise me with all the different aspects of canal boating you bring to us and allow us to share. Isn’t Connor a grand chap.
Thank you David, this was a most interesting vlog. Thank you for sharing.
So cool to be in my old area , Shirley , Copt Heath ,our Old boys Club , Earlswood .
Made me look back , I crossed one canal everyday on my way to school for 10 years , just past the Rover Factory on my left heading into Solihull
Taking me back 50 years :-)
We had a brilliant maths teacher 'Swotty Ansell ' , he was old :-) Would join in mountain walks and get left far behind , passing us while we rested . 'Tortoise/Hare ' totally .
Sadly , his last walk was near a canal :-( I think he would be happy .
Love the video David - quite like old times, for both your viewers and yourself. Love it, but where was the cheese sandwich? :)
I brought one with me and had it when we stopped for lunch at the end! Connor made the tea.
😂 🙉
i was wondering the same thing
He declined 😅
I couldn't to that job, I'd be to worried about wrecking someone else's boat.
In the ocean cruising world, the life of a delivery captain often means sailing in seasons where the weather is such that only an idiot would sail.
You aren't always going to be rolled by a hurricane, but you can pretty much guarantee a couple of gales.
I'd say that I'd expect a delivery captain on the canals to be less exciting - much like normal cruising except in the rain.
But let's be honest - this is England, everybody cruises in the rain
What a lovely interior. Beautifully designed and crafted.
I like these videos absolutely the most. My first video of yours was Coalfinger, and this feels like a cozy reminder and followup in the same vein. Thanks!
Much appreciated!
Nice one Mr. David. Tks for sharing!
Wonderful boat
Isn't it?!
‘TEMP” quite possibly the most astutely chosen Graffiti tag ever..possibly surpassed only by the well known tagger “Will be painted over shortly” 😜
Yes, Readly is great! And, of course, thanks for your video, as always. 😅
Brilliant boat and video - thank you 😃
I wish we had them in the USA . Awesome looking boat.
Just like with Coalfinger, it's always lovely to know more about the people making a living through narrowboating. Thank you David!
That boat is gorgeous!
Now that I have seen a newer version of a narrow boat, I am impressed!
Thank you for sharing.
So sorry to have missed you there. But lets hope for next year when we come to England again. But we saw Heidi at least and had a good laugh
You'd be hard pushed not to have a laugh with Heidi!
The only ad thats ever managed to convince me.
😀
Connor is very enterprising and what a lovely life/job he’s established for himself. Bravo :)
Sorry David, I like my dead tree's. I have a small library, and was asked one day, while purchasing more books. Why didn't I have a Kindle or Nook. Well I have both, how ever , while doing any research where I have several books on the go . It's difficult to switch from one to another. Where if it's a book you leave it open on the floor, then carry on knowing it's just look over to the next.
There will always be a certain appeal to printed works, I grant you, but for the many reasons I gave, I still contend that Readly is a brilliant solution. I can take everything in the campervan / boat / home / holiday etc all just by taking the iPad!
@@CruisingTheCut ...until the battery fails, you lose power, or an emp hits. A physical library is something I used to be against, but the older I get, I have been collecting works in print, and now I know the true value of physical books. The guy with the best books will be the savior of the apocalypse. Consider a future with no electricity.
In the event of the apocalypse, I think a library of car magazines is going to be the least of my worries 🤣
@@CruisingTheCut I don't know. You'll definitely want some homesteading books.
@@CruisingTheCut . Totally understand David. Now me if I'm taking a trip or such. That's the only time I read fiction. That's so I have no need to check , look up , confirm anything. Just pick it up and enjoy a good yarn. Or if it's totally garbage I have no reason not to leave it somewhere.
Another finely presented video. Fellow RUclipsrs should take note.
What a completely lovely trip! Just beautiful. Thanks for taking us along. 😎💕😎💕😎
Oooo first narrowboat I have seen with Loxone on there for the control system & lighting! It is the way to go!
I enjoyed this video immensely David well presented as yours are always the ad was good but Connor has a lovely job well done to him for thinking of it
Thank you it’s been hard work to get where I am but it’s paying off 😊
Very nice, David! Thank you! If you discussed this and I missed it, I sincerely apologize. There were several interruptions while watching this and I restarted a couple of times. The interruptions did not stop but I DID watch the entire video and found it quite interesting. Hence the question. Does he pick up a fair amount of multiple night boat transfers? Does he stay with the boat during these occasions or does he hop scotch a vehicle during these times. That is a risky security question and I really was only curious about whether he makes use of the facilities on board? Sleeping, cooking, that sort of thing. You asked him if he ever found himself in a situation where the boat might be in less than ideal condition and he very politely replied that he transfers all kinds of boats, so yes. What the question was in relation to was interrupted and I did not back it up. It might have been asking this very question and if so, I apologize. I enjoy your videos and there is no disrespect intended.
People do something similar in the states (caravans and big truck caravans) moving them from coast to coast or from the North to Florida. You can ride the train in a sleeper car from Maine or Montreal (somewhere in the North) to Miami and you can reserve a spot on the car hauler but Caravans exceeed many of the height and length limits so there are those who make a living transporting them seasonally. My mother did something similar in the 70s & 80s, moving moving trucks to locations that had a higher need than inventory. She had a regular job, programming and operating robots but she would take a run within a fairly close distance of her grandchildren. She had 15 grandchildren at various stages of development and she considered it a grandmother’s prerogative to corrupt them all equally. Running a truck allowed her frequent visits (3 of her children were in California with one stationed at the Marine Base in Southern California, another just north of the Bay Area and the oldest & mother of 5 between the two) and the trip was fully covered (fuel, flight, per diem) by the company. She enjoyed it and I appreciated the shift of focus to another sibling’s child(ren).
For the duration of the move, he lives aboard.
Mr. Conner should buy a mini canal (butty/buddy) boat for his equipment and personal needs. It might be tow-behind or a tug too.
But then he'd have to get the butty to wherever the client boat was!
😂 not hauling one of them around with me to
Think he may struggle to get it on the train though!!🤣🤣
A very nice man.
Lovely blog. Thoroughly enjoyable. CHEERS
A very nice video of a fine boat, lovely canals, and a most enterprising young man! Great job gentlemen.
What a great job. I wonder what sort of insurance/s he has in case of any mishaps?
Narrowboat Scarlet Lady was mentioned in another vlog, from memory I think it was briefly mentioned on an old Foxes Afloat video. I think that they were going to replicate the main berth design on their narrowboat.
So It’s great to finally see inside Scarlet Lady.
🙂🐿🌈❤️
P.s thanks for telling me about the Readly app. I have a friend that feels bad about spending money on magazines about his various hobbies and interests. I’m thinking that this could actually be the perfect gift idea, and he’d have access to all of them and not have to just choose one or two, as he does, when buying them in hard copy.
Yes, perfect. Thanks again David 🙂
Yes, he has insurance! Great idea about Readly as a gift 😀
The way you present the “ad” doesn’t make it seem like an advertisement. For example, when you do the fireside chat showing us all of the things that narrowboaters have for sale or items that you have found unique that we might like as well. Your journalistic background served us very well for this video.
Thank you for taking us along
Great video, a fascinating job.
A great video David. Interesting to see other peoples jobs. Also good information regarding the online magazines 👍
Thank you 😊
Pressreader is the same thing but it's Free! If you are a member of a library you just sign in with your library details.
Intriguing!
Interesting video… I imagine he has a steady work load for himself.
Thanks for sharing!
I’m probably unusual but I actually enjoyed your sponsor spot.
Thank you! (Yes, unusual 🤣)
What a pleasant job for a nice guy like Conor. Lovely boat too. Thanks for a decent cruising video, David - A nice relaxing start to the day
What a fantastic job 😊nice video 😊thank you
I liked the light affect in the tunnel
Excellent video. Connor does a great job. Fabulous kind of work in the fresh air and scenery. Thank you David for another most enjoyable cruise and documentary.
A bloody good vlog David and it’s nice to see you promoting Services that you use. It’s about time!!! 😇
Thanks!! That was great!!
What a wonderful video and chat with Connor. Great to see you back on the water.
Splendid! Off topic but I marvel at the rope work involved in creating those peculiar "bumpers" located at the bow and stern. That seems to be a craft where there are a few premiere bumper builders or what ever you would call the. Perhaps fascinating and worth an episode or horribly monotonous after 200' of rope braided together.
One of the narrowboat channels did a video showing how to make those rope fenders a few years back - can't remember which channel - possibly "The Narrowboat Experience"?
I scurried off to look it up, it turns out LOTS of people have made videos on rope fender making - The ones I remember are: "Well Deck Diaries" episode 46, and "Making a Narrowboat with Nanny and Granddad" vlog 8.
Thanks David, always fun to see what you are doing and to get ride too.
I think Conor has one of the best jobs in the UK
Depends what boat what day 😅 doing it everyday like I do is genuine hard graft physically and mentally ❤
@@cwboatmover5418 Hi Connor.... I appreciate your job and it's inherent drawbacks.....people only think of the "up-sides" of any job. They ignore the horrible days.
In your case, the usually pretty foul weather, the cold, then...the problems of running low of food /water and/or fuel due to unforeseen circumstances.
It ain't all plain sailing, is it! But...I am pretty sure you enjoy it .... over all.
Good luck to you lad. It's what I'd have done in my youth!
@@cwboatmover5418 sounds like you need to expand and hire.
I like it just me and #2 Connor who does admin better that way and few years I’ll get my son to follow 😉
love these life on the canals by different eyes
Hi David, fellow Readly subscriber here. I’ve been using it for about 5 years and I love it. Can I also suggest taking a look at Borrowbox which allows you to download books from your local library at no charge.
That sure is one very nice looking boat, and it was good to see you enjoying it in such a relaxing style. I can well see you employing such staff as Colin to "cruise you around the cut" on your new glamorous super vessel when you come up lucky on the lottery. I hope it is soon.
Many thanks.
David in Dudley.
That was probably the most useful thing I have ever seen a RUclipsr advertise!
Did you not record your entire script? There was a bit of subtitle without you reading it out.
The ad read was entirely off the cuff but it should have been transcribed for the subtitles so thanks for the heads-up, I'll check that.
@@CruisingTheCut No, the bit missing was in the beginning, not in the ad. It was about the driver not wanting to give the boats a bad name by speeding.
Well done every time. You have such a logical presentation, a point I like very much. I am glad to see your various takes on narrow boating.
Thank you very much!
