@@Goldfishstick YES! and my husband has never and obviously will never understand. It's like your body is telling you that you are starving even if you obviously are not.. and you HAVE to have sugar or carbs. NOW. It's so overwhelming.
So so glad I’m not alone! I was recently diagnosed with PCOS so I’ve started doing my research and it’s overwhelming to know that some of the things I’ve struggled with for years are actually symptoms of PCOS.
For others trying to get all the info :) PCOS suggestions: Foods (low GI diet/lower carb): whole wheat bread, citrus fruits, milk, bulgur, sweet potatoes, chick peas, steel cut oats, lentils, healthy fats and proteins, higher fiber carbs, stabilize higher GI carbs with lean/healthy proteins and fats, be careful with restricting/too low calories/too few meals. Supplements: vitamin d, probiotics, omega 3, inositol (!!) Herbs, etc: macca root, ashwaghanda, holy basil, licorice, chase berry, tribulis terrestris. Anti-inflammatory foods, reduce CRP Get a lot of sleep (7-9 is the typical recommendation) and stress management, quit smoking cigarettes, get acupuncture, avoiding known potential endocrine disrupters (eg BPA). Exercise, yoga, meditation and massage, etc? (Not mentioned) weight loss for overweight women? More in-depth info in video. Eat enough food! Especially protein, and in AM and before bed. Medications (eg metformin, etc) Move your body in the way that fits for you Work on loving your body and RESPECTING your body! Have compassion for your body and gratitude for what it can do. ❤️😊
@@halima4355 Yes, as far as I know, most adults, especially those with PCOS, will benefit from eliminating milk/dairy. Alternative "milks" such as nut milks (almond, hazelnut, cashew etc), coconut milk and flaxseed milks are best. They won't mess with our hormones like dairy. Just make sure you're not allergic to any of these alternatives.
Thanks so much for making this video. Learning that 86% of PCOS sufferers have an eating disorder makes me seriously emotional. I am that statistic. I know too well why women like us are so vulnerable to body image issues.
I know! That part made me ball like a baby because someone actually acknowledged that the cravings were real and it wasn't just because I didn't want weight loss enough :(
I cried so hard watching that part. The last decade has been a disaster of disorders eating and depression. I’m not happy that 86% of my pcos sisters probably feel the same but it’s relieving knowing I’m not alone. ♥️
@@SamanthaValentine13 you are definitely not alone💞. I go from eating healthier, to restrictive then total binge eating disorder and addiction to food with sugars and refined carbs for many years.
This was the most compassionate and humanizing PCOS educational content I have ever received and it helped me alot with going to my next dr appointment
Hello I know Where you can order herbal medicine for a great herbalist who help my wife Contact her and her also cure infections, pcos period Low sperm count, Hepatitis B and C, Herpes, Asthma, Cancer, HSV 1 & Elephantiasis, etc cetera.
I cried watching this. For years I’ve had insane cravings and I never thought it was related to PCOS. I’ve always felt less than for never being able to properly control them unless I starved myself. This is a fantastic video, Abbey. Thank you
I cried too, same reasons. Ugh, I understand how you feel. I used to blame myself for the cravings and putting on weight and didn't even think it was related to PCOS
I had insane cravings. My family is Lebanese and the word "craving" to them only applies to pregnant women. I'd say I'm craving things and they would tell me that's impossible unless I'm pregnant 🙄🙃
I'm just so tired of PCOS. I cannot put into words the frustration I'm feeling. This helps validate how I feel unlike doctors who do nothing but blame you for the symptoms.
I too feel extremely exhausted from trying to find solutions to deal with it. I get particularly frustrated when being told to just stop stressing about it, as this makes it worse, therefore it's my fault again.
White Okay ruclips.net/user/postUgkx6K7NWahp9y3ir1gVAwysOCHOOPSnWZbw . I got it from my browser's history. I know that it's really frustrating to be over-weighted but all is possible with a strong determination. Good luck…..
I'm literally on the verge of tears because this is the first time I've ever felt understood with my PCOS. I have been through 4 doctors in the past 5 years because they won't help me with any medical issues except just telling me to lose weight and putting me on experimental weight loss drugs. I have been pressured multiple times to have extreme weight loss surgery as my fix. This just confirms to me that I need to continue trying to find someone here who actually understands PCOS and how it affects me specifically.
Beth Melvin hi Beth ! I’m so sorry you’re going through this 😞 I help women with PCOS balance their hormones and reduce cravings you can follow me on IG @dietitianmonica 💕
Same! Doctors didn’t do anything to me, instead they just prescribed me birth control pills without telling me what pcos actually was. It took me couple of years to know what it was😡
When you eat, keep all the fun tasting protein just the way you've always eaten it, but have it with broccoli, or asparagus, steamed cabbage or stir fried veggies...replace rice, pasta and all the high carb bases.... you'll still feel full. .but no spikes
5 months ago my doctor legit told me “lose weight and then we will go from there” I’m 160 lbs and it never made sense.... I also already struggled with a binge eating disorder and let me just say it has got much worse. Before this video I could never understand my cravings and why they felt that way, it seriously is like I crave the food and have an insane urge to get that food immediately or my body just feels completely unsatisfied. This helped soooo much.
I couldn’t agree more! I feel the same exact way and it’s such a relief knowing that my body is making me feel this way and I’m not food obsessed or something.
Hi Hailey, consider checking your nutrient profile i.e. tracking everything you eat and comparing to RDA for each nutrient. I tend to want to eat more (in the I'm-not-satisfied-and-I-have-no-idea-why way) when I'm deficient in iron. You'll be surprised at how difficult it is to get 100% iron RDA even when you eat meat. So you never know, it could be a deficiency not a disorder (not necessarily iron, but anything your body needs, which translates to, cravings). Also RDA is for the average person. Your body might need more than RDA depending on its own needs. Like I have naturally higher levels of testosterone (very tall, lots of hair) so I might need more iron than the average woman.
Hi Hailey, have you ever been screened for ADHD? I have PCOS too and have always thought about food constantly and felt completely powerless to eat in a way that felt healthy (as opposed to slamming 3 bags of sour gummy bears in my car while crying). I was diagnosed this year with ADHD as an adult, and treatment has made a huge difference in the mental barrage of cravings. I'm actually able to notice my physical hunger cues. Just something worth looking into; might not be relevant to you but it was something I had never considered. Feel free to reach out if you have questions. ❤️
Same! I finally had an NP tell me you don’t have to be overweight. The only reason I’m not overweight is my very healthy lifestyle that is commonly talked about to treat PCOS.
I’m sixteen and have been struggling with this for the past year. PCOS can be so tasking mentally especially when you have an eating disorder, or struggle without proper support from doctors, parents and friends. Your advice on the topic means the world to me. Thank you so much.💗
Sending you love Solana. Dealing with PCOS is so difficult. It’s difficult even with support from doctors and loved ones. Stay strong and maybe even show your family this video. It may help them know where you are coming from more.
I know your comment is from a year ago... but I hope you have found good care... sooo sooo sorry you are going thru this at such a young age. I just got diagnosed and I’m 30.... I didn’t have symptoms until I was 26... I’m wishing you well❤️
Omg I’m 16 too! And now I’m so worried, I didn’t know what PCOS was until today because I’m not sure if I’m having my first irregular period ? Then this showed up and then I was so sure I had binge eating disorder and now I’m confused because both sounds like me. Like I’m always just craving stuff idk. And I have been quite tired. My last period was kinda light and that hasn’t happened to me since like 4 years ago when I got my first period. I don’t know maybe it’s in my mind. It’s 3am and I have a final to do today at 730 am so should get to bed...hopefully
@@DietitianMonica so for someone with ovarian cysts or pcos wht should they do ? I am a completely normal weight person been activr my whole life used to swim hike bt didnt do much of tht during corona time but just recently found out i got multiple cysts on the right ovary and the doc just said to lose weight but idk how they could say its pcos when i have no symtom of it other then the cysts , like i dont have crazy weight gain or irregular periods other then some stuborn belly fat tht comes or goes so so how do i ge rid of this?? (Btw i workout daily started recently but wht to do with diet?)
They don’t know anything! I was told take birth control pills and diabetes meds to loose weight and get my period back. These doctors just want to give you meds smh. Healthy eating and weight training can help u loose weight.
Get an endocrinologist! Mine partnered with a nutritionist to help me manage my PCOS. I also got labs done every 3 months to see how my testosterone levels were changing as my diet changed. I'm still on birth control to manage my periods but this all really helped by PCOS become an after thought in my life (been diagnosed for 7 years)
I have PCOS and noticed that going on a low carb diet has freed me from food/sugar/ carb addiction. I have been on a low carb lifestyle 80-90% of the time and it's given me my life back. I have added to this exercise and am also being managed by an endocrinologist
Me too! No more toast, starchy cereals, or “dry carbs” for breakfast, and usually not for lunch. I used to love eating toast every morning with my breakfast, and be YEARNing for a nap by 11:00 AM. Now I will start my day with a black tea (and sometimes a green apple), followed by a polyphenol-rich smoothie (+collagen) for breakfast, and a big salad + 2 eggs scrambled for lunch. I will have a delicious helping of white basmati rice, a big salad, and sautéed chicken/shrimp/salmon for dinner. Sadly, I’m not eating red meat these days because it makes me constipated. I usually try to stop eating before 6 or 6:30 PM. I also try to drink Spearmint tea 2ce a day because it is clinically proven to lower androgen levels. I might snack on a date or two throughout the day, I might not. With this routine, my sugar and junk food cravings are no where NEAR as insane as they used to be. Good luck. And just remember, you’re not too big, or too skinny, or too hairy, or a hopeless case. You are loved.
I was diagnosed with PCOS at 18 and I had to wait to watch this video because I knew I would get emotional. And I did. I'm SO glad someone with an educational background is FINALLY discussing PCOS on the internet
Joining the throng in saying: I feel seen! For the first time EVER in my diagnosis, I feel like I've heard some sound advice and felt cared for. Thank you for all of the fact-based information, compassion, and the hope for getting on top of my symptoms without the "just lose weight..." mandate. Thank you Abbey and Julie!!!!!
Yes, it was so beautiful to hear a doctor understand what it's like. I live in an already very fatphobic society and dread going to the doctor for all of the reasons listed here.
When I moved to Romania, I lost 85 lbs and all my PCOS symptoms went away for the two years I was there. My symptoms and weight returned when I returned to the US. I believe this happened because the traditional Romanian diet aligns with the typical recommendations for PCOS - a Mediterranean diet, slightly elevated in protein with protein at every meal, no soy additives, very little dairy and relatively low in sugar and refined carbs.
@@AbbeysKitchen Unfortunately, it only works when I'm outside of the US. In the US, I'm morbidly obease whereas my weight drops to slightly overweight when I'm abroad through intuitive eating and jumps back up when I return. I've tried, unsuccessfully, to duplicate the same diet here but it doesn't work. After this happening 3 different time I've moved abroad, I'm almost convinced there is an environmental or food additives that my body is having trouble with in the US. I'm about to move abroad again and hopefully it will happen again because I feel much healthier, more energetic and I don't have the same food cravings.
This is fascinating because I had the same experience living abroad and I've always wondered what is in the food here North America that is causing this in so many women 😔
Ugh this is so discouraging to read. Something has got to change in the US. It's not right that women's only option is to leave the country to be healthy!
My goodness! Thank you! I have blamed my weight for possibly keeping us from conceiving... but what a freeing a statement “weight didn’t cause pcos, weight loss won’t cure it” 😭 this video was very encouraging. Thank you ❤️
A few points - 1. this is why we need OB's or doctors specifically trained in PCOS. The lack of medical knowledge of PCOS is really sad. 2. Once you do find a doctor who knows about PCOS it helps so much. I was put on metformin and i dropped weight effortlessly with intuitive eating. They said - of course you couldn't loose weight before, your body was literally fighting against you for every calorie! Ladies - get a doctor how knows about PCOS and have them treat you. It makes a world of difference.
I did go to a pro that specializes in pcos and they didn’t do anything to me . Just told me to lose weight and that would mange it. I struggle with weight a lot and my dietitian used to yell at me for not being able to lose weight even though i was under eating my whole life. I grew up thinking i had a binge eating disorder and tried to stop eating all together only to realize that i eat less than anybody i know and just got picked on cuz am fat.
I literally SOBBED in the clinic room when my primary care provider had told me she knew what I was going through and could help 😩😭 she gave me metformin and referred me to a nutritionist. I have since found my path on how to manage it and now have a regular cycle as of August 11th (cycle started on time this month as well).
Did u get the pelvic ultrasound? If so, did the doctor apply pressure to ur abdomen? I'm asking because Im 16 and just got mine done yesterday and I still have discomfort in that area from when she pressed down with that instrument 😣
I always kind of wondered because my cravings for chocolate around my (now present) period are not the same as the obsessive and desperate desire for carbohydrates. Sometimes I would make a whole box of pasta and eat it plain because that's absolutely all i wanted and I wouldn't stop thinking about it. definitely NOT normal cravings
Thank you for making this video. Having PCOS is so hard and I feel like few people understand what its like to have hormonal issues and don't really see is an "important" diagnosis or something that can affect your day to day but it can. My fatigue, intense period pain, uncontrollable cravings, and weight gain even when following a personal nutrition plan with a nutricionist are symptoms that together have been difficult to deal with. i wish people would take it more seriously and understand that it's not just that I don't have self control.
so for someone with ovarian cysts or pcos wht should they do ? I am a completely normal weight person been activr my whole life used to swim hike bt didnt do much of tht during corona time but just recently found out i got multiple cysts on the right ovary and the doc just said to lose weight but idk how they could say its pcos when i have no symtom of it other then the cysts , like i dont have crazy weight gain or irregular periods other then some stuborn belly fat tht comes or goes so so how do i ge rid of this?? Thank you so much for making this video! I have been dealing with PCOS for the last 12 years (I'll be 30 soon) and it has worsened my bipolar disorder, my eating disorders and my life in general. It's been really hard to deal with all the effects - from the acne to the weight gain to the cravings - and this is the first time that someone in a health field doesn't tell me I just need to exercise MORE, to diet MORE. I feel so "seem". Thank you Abbey, thank you Julie. This video will change many lifes, I'm sure of it. Will go to ask a new doctor i'll be seeing soon about inositol!
I also struggle with bipolar disorder, depression/anxiety, a eating disorder, and pcos. I am only 21, and I’m 120lbs. It is so hard and isolating for me right now. I’m hoping if I change my diet I will start to feel better, but I also hope I don’t lose too much weight and become underweight
There are many components to treating ovarian cysts at home. One resource I discovered that successfully combines these is the Litzy Remedy Tactics (check it out on google) without a doubt the most useful plan i've heard of. look at the incredible info .
I literally cried while watching... I've PCOS since my periods started and I'm 27 years old now at 81 kgs. All my doctor could tell me is to reduce my weight and take Glucophage or birth controls. Got fed up of taking Glucophage thrice daily 3years ago so I switched to birth controls which only worsened my situation and lead to more weight gain. So I switched back to Glucophage. Went through an abusive marriage including a miscarriage unknowingly that I was pregnant and was teased by my now ex husband every other day about my weight even to an extent that he restricted my food intake as per his choices. Now all I want is to eat as I wish, but everyone tells me to reduce weight. Weight loss has always been so difficult and no one ever understands the cravings you get. Its really hard to maintain a healthy body weight while dealing with other emotional factors too. But most people don't get it and it really hurts when doctors even don't understand. Its not as easy as it always seems on social media to shed lots of pounds. My best wishes to everyone out there struggling with PCOS.
Try intermittent fasting for the cravings! I waited for a morning when I randomly didn’t feel as hungry and waited until 10 to eat and made myself stop at 6. It really, really helps! Sometimes I give in a little early and sometimes I give in at night and I’m not a perfect eater during my eating window. But slowly but surely it’s been great. I HIGHLY recommend it.
I was only recently (a month ago) diagnosed with PCOS at age 23 and I really didn't receive any advice, information or guidance from my doctor. I've been referred to a gynaecologist but it'll be at least 40 weeks until my appointment, maybe due to covid but I'm unsure of exactly why. I cried throughout this video because I've never felt so understood and looked after and seen! & I don't have anybody I can talk to about this, and this video was so helpful! Thank you so much for this 💕 wishing us all the best on our different, but same, journeys 💗
I was also diagnosed with pcos at 23 (I’m 25 now). I’m here for ya! It’s been a stressful journey for me, but finding videos like this has helped me so much to better understand the condition.
Wow I needed this video!! My doctor told me the way to handle my PCOS was to lose weight - 50lbs, although she wanted me to lose more... i weight 160lbs and I’m 5’4... if I lost that much weight, I’d be underweight.... I’ve battled an eating disorder for the majority of my life and my doctor didn’t care whatsoever, she was so cold and uncaring, fat shamed me in her office, and I left in tears feeling so badly about myself in a way I hadn’t in so long. Thank you for calling this out, the both of you! I don’t think some of these doctors understand the impact that has on a person, it’s like telling someone who’s depressed to “stop being sad” or “it’s not that bad,” it doesn’t help in any way! Abbey I love your videos! ❤️ Ok bye 😬
Just to add: I feel HEARD! I cried watching the video because this month has been particularly bad and I’m just so overwhelmed in trying to manage my symptoms. Thank you Abbey!
My mom would never believe me when I told her that my cravings are ravenous and I can’t control them. I am so thankful to have watched this video because I feel so validated!
I just wanna say thank you! I have really struggled treating my Pcos . Hearing you actually explain why and how some things work makes me understand my condition so much more! I love this and you!
The day I got my diagnosis was the day I decided to love my body and treat it the way it deserves to be treated. What others view as broken I realised works incredibly hard for me everyday just to make it through (one of my symptoms is extreme menorrhagia) . I love my body, she fights for me & we get through it together every month ❤️
Exactly how I feel. I’ve been fasting for 3 weeks exercising 5 days a week and have lost 6 lbs. but I can’t seem to lose lose weight. It’s like I have to starve to lose. I realized all of this walking on the treadmill tonight. I really proud of myself. Crying happy tears bc I will continue to fight. I didn’t jog or incline to 10. I walked for 45 min comfortably
I lost my period for 7 months. After taking Myo-Inositol daily in a month + increasing my calories intake, I finally got my period back. I’m glad that you mentioned Inositol because it worked wonder for me 😊. Hope it helps other people as well
Hanna Bryant I actually knew about this supplement from Martin MacDonald (His IG account is @Martinnutrition if you want to seek more advices from him). His recommendation is: - 2-4g per day of 500g Myo-Inositol is a seemingly good starting dose. - There is another form of Inositol called D-Chiro-Inositol, don't use that. (And if you insist on using it, DM him on Instagram for advice.) - Take it daily for 6 months. Results can come much sooner but for some people/issues it can take that long. It took only 1 month for me to get my period back.
I have not heard anyone talk about the binge eating and nearly primal food cravings that come with PCOS before. I definitely experience this and now knowing that I am not alone in this is so helpful. This video was so informative and helpful! Thank you for posting this :)
Wow I’ve never seen a video that validated my experience even more. On top of weight loss being extremely difficult, being patronized my doctors is extremely discouraging. It’s insulting the amount of times I’ve had doctors say to me “just have salad instead of sandwiches or eat cauliflower rice” like obviously. 🙄🙄. The cravings suck too it’s like all I can think about. This video was amazing
Abby! This was one of your BEST videos yet. I’ve had PCOS for 10 years, and it’s been such a roller coaster, especially with the excess hair growth, anxiety, depression, and chronic, disordered sleep. The cravings! I never thought to link that to the PCOS, I thought most women experienced these intense cravings! And the prevalence of EDs among women with PCOS…insane. Thank you.
I'm so glad you posted this. I have PCOS and Hashimoto's disease. It's incredibly frustrating trying to manage both. Especially when it comes to weight and hair loss issues.
Casey, I feel you. Same for me. Both my father's mother and his sister had Hashi's. No one had pcos that I know of, but I do. Fighting not to become diabetic over here.
Are you on Synthroid? Most people are and it's just not an effective way to control hypothyroidism. Most people need T3 added to Synthrpid or else T3 alone. Are you on anything for PCOS?
I cried so hard. Thank you thank you. Ive been suffering with binging issues for so long. Every doctor says those primal hunger cramps cant be that bad. They are. It hurt so bad one time i laid in bed screaming and crying for hours when i was on my “successful” restrictive diet. I don’t want to suffer anymore and now i know i don’t have to. Im so happy. I just want to reach out and hug you. You are my savior.
I’m so glad to hear this. Your videos have helped me reach a healthy relationship with food. I was diagnosed with pcos and the first thing that was recommended to me was to see a nutritionist but was pushed to follow a 1200 calorie diet which spiraled into calorie counting and made my relationship with food so toxic and I would get frustrated when the weight would come back when I cheated on that diet. Now I’ve learned to love my body as it is and eat a healthy diet that isn’t calorie restricted but full of whole foods and I feel like my body feels nurished and better then ever. Doctors still tell me I’m overweight and need to be 125 range when I’m not but when i was “skinny” I never felt so unhealthy. This video helped me a lot personally and I wanted to thank you for finding my peace with food and my body
Zee Cook that’s awful that a professional told you eat 1200 calories a day. You should report him or her. Unfortunately, it seems like many of the dieticians and nutritionists in practice have their own eating disorders. I was lucky enough to see a dietician who helped me lose weight safely and slowly. She pushed for 1.5 lbs, 2 lbs max a month and it worked so well for me. The change was so slow and gradual, it truly just became a new way of life. Never give up 💕
Omg Thank you so much for this! The lack of information, research and solutions for PCOS is crazy to me. I struggled for years before my diagnosis and then 6 years to get pregnant. I read about people’s success with Keto and PCOS and decided to give it a try. I did it for 5 months, lost 40lbs and got pregnant! It completely changed my life and all my symptoms. I’m glad a low glycemic diet is being recommended here, no doctor I ever saw in 12 years ever brought up food as a method of control for PCOS. So discouraging.
I've made several videos regarding PCOS and the different types of PCOS. Yes, there is more than one. Glad to see more people talk about PCOS. When I was diagnosed, I was a lone wolf. Edit: one more thing, you don't have to have cyst to have PCOS 😊
This! I wish they'd give cyst free people their own name though, I don't blame people for being confused when I tell them I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome with no damn cysts on my ovaries.
@@mostimportantmegan Yes very strange. Hormones are very powerful, but it seems not a lot of doctors are up to speed with them and their effects on women
I love your energy and personality! Thank you for making this video. I was just diagnosed with (lean) PCOS, but I am a healthy weight. My doctor did not tell me at all how to manage my symptoms at all. Thank you for this! You have a new subscriber :)
Thank you so much Abbey for this video! as a 16 year old who has just been diagnosed with pcos and who has had past eating disorders it has helped me to not relapse into my old restriction habits, I wish all doctors informed their patients like you do for us, so much love for you Abbey. Thank you!
This video brought me to tears. For years I fought for the diagnosis and when I did get it it was treated like a common cold almost, not a chronic debilitating illness. Thank for this video. It made me connect so many dots in my life about what’s impacting where. I truly can’t say thank you enough for the way this was approached.
I was told I have this about 12-15 years ago. Kind of treated as an aside. I started researching because I feel like I’m at critical mass with joint pain, binge eating, debilitating fatigue, so many other things... in the past two years I’ve gained 150 pounds. I’m miserable. I’m crying. This is so helpful.
so only halfway through this video I must say I am impressed by the amount of research you put into this and how accurate it is! I am just finishing med school and since I have PCOs myself I read many papers and did my research in uni...and as always I clicked on this video expecting it to be some dr. mike kind of "keto diet solves everything" video....but wow did you surprise me! This is the first video I saw from you - won't be the last! I love how informed you are, how you talk about PCOs with 0 judgment and in a very kind way, I love all the research links! And I especially love the fact that you always say whether this is proven in a study or maybe just placebo and you add the limitations of studys!!! Those are very important! In the end this is actually the first "diet video" I agree with 90% (and I have seen like A LOT of them)! Only point I have to add is to the weightloss: Yes if you are thin don't bother with this but if you are overweight with PCO weightloss is suuuuuch an important part of the treatment (and even though it is difficult it is absolutly possible)! Fat cells produce estrogen and that will increase allll your endocrine troubles, whether that is infertility or hairloss or acne (most of those are caused by testosteron which is a precursor of estrogen and will be produced in larger quantities) -> High estrogen will destroy your entire menstrual cycle (f.e. the estrogen peak in the middle of your cycle will cause an LH peak and with that ovulation...if you have a massive overload of estrogen you won't have such a "peak" -> no ovulation) and the hormon balance! The weightloss (even "just" 5% of your bodyweight) will increase the likeliness of pregnancy and will reduce your risk for metabolic syndrom! It souldn't be the only thing your dr talks about but it has to be talked about! Diets don't work that's true but diets don't work because they are a short term "solution" with overweight (no matter if PCOs or not) -> It will be frustrating if you expect fast results, it is very limiting to get fast results and if you are starving your body it will make you have cravings and you will eat like never befor and your body will take every bit of energy it can get -> you need to go for a long term dietary change. Intuitive eating won't help though since your entire hunger system is taken over by hormones (heaps of insulin but also ghrelin, lack of leptin, plus estrogen also builds of fat tissue) so if you eat what your body tells you - especially with pcos - you will not stop eating/getting fatter...Listening to your cravings at some point is important though - write down when and how they are happening, find a way of preventing them (f.e. eat smaller meals but more often to keep the blood sugar levels consistantly over the "craving" level) and maybe even find sth that satisfies your craving without being the craving (f.e. my craving for chicken nuggets can also be satisfied by the plant based alternatives from the vegetarian butcher and my craving for choclate milk can also be satisfied by a dark choclate drink) If you wanna lose weight aim for 500g a week, measure your calories (even if you have PCOs you will not gain weight if you burn more calories than you eat!) and don't go too far down with your calory intake (anything under 1500kcal will end up in cravings and weight cycling), eat healthy, frequently, with sugars that are digested slowly (f.e. wholewheat) and fibre - don't starve yourself and figure out which healthy foods and meals you like! plus also be active (low impact sport if you are overweight! I recommend everything the "body project" channel here on yt has! there are plenty other vids but this one is the one I worked with) try all that for 1-2 weeks! Then take the most important 2 hours: sit down and write down what worked, what didn't work and how you can fix that (remember: What you are doing is sth you should do forever - if something is not working for you you will most likely quit it so think of ways to at least make it a bit more fun or achievable - you can always set higher goals later on but if you set them right at the beginning and have no fun you are very likely to give up! and set SMART goals - if you don't know what that is google it)! And then write down your meals for the next 2weeks so you never have to think about what you want to eat and never have to go to the supermarket without knowing what to buy! Don't be too hard on yourselfs though: you can plan an unhealthy meal if you want to - but keep the calories in mind, maybe do an extra training for it - but when planing a few of your old dishes the transition is easier and it won't feel like you have to cut down on everything! Nr 1 priority: Stick with it. No matter how small the change is - if you "only" lose 200g a week but stick with it over 5 years you can say "In 5 years I see myself 50kg lighter" but if you go back and forth losing and gaining weight in rapid cycles you will be the same weight you are now! And I mean most of us have had their weight problems for far over 5 years...it's not the end of the world if it takes us another 2 to lose it again... A few more helpfull tricks: 1) Invest a few dollars and get yourself a scale that measures body fat and a few other things - it will help you stay on track when you see you didn't lose any weight but you lost fat! Weight yourself every day BUT when measuring progress compare the weekly averages - not the single day stuff - there is so much fluctuation between the days depending on if you already went to the toilet, drank a lot and for us women the bloating and edemas that come with menstruation is a factor as well - taking the average gives you a better view of what you lost! My scale has an app to do that and it cost me less than 30$ 2) Get an app like lifesum to track the calories so you don't have to do that on your own because it's a struggle! 3) And lastly tell all your friends about it - ask them to motivate you or join you on your trainings or sth! I kid you not we once had a tutor telling the entire lecture (200+ people) he is on a diet and if anyone sees him eat sth on campus that is unhealthy we can just go up to him and take it away to eat it ourselfes xD don't go that far but hey this dude lost weight and build up muscle so fast!!! Through this move he found a group of guys wanting to train with him and they got so healthy!
also there are different types (9 different stereoisomers) of inositol: D-chiro-inositol and myo inositol f.e. - D-Chiro is an aromatase inhibitor which means testosteron is no longer transformed to estrogen which will lower your estrogen levels but also you will be stuck with testosteron so while it can be a great supplement you have to make sure you are taking the right ones (the right ratio of these stereoisomers) or your symptoms can actually worsen! The ratio between myo and D-chiron-inositol should be 40:1!!! Your dr most likely won't know that though
Thank you telling us more on how to manage PCOS :) I'm so glad you're pulling in more experts now onto your channel, it's great to hear from specialists that have seen people with this condition regularly. Keep up the great content!
I just want to say a HUGE thank you for this video. I’ve battled with PCOS for 10 years and I’ve really struggled! I actually cried listening to both you and Julie and I just want to say how grateful I am! I am feeling so much better and so much more equipped to deal with this condition. Thank you both. 🙏🏾
This video is one of the first, and only, I have ever watched that made me feel like I wasn't crazy when it came to my PCOS. I have had intense food cravings since I was a kid and find it nearly impossible to lose weight which has lead to disordered eating in the past. For the first time I feel like I have the information I need to fight for my own health plan without being steamrolled by a doctor who "knows better" than I do.
Thank you so much for making this video. I've been struggling with PCOS for 2 years and have been feeling lost with the lack of guidance from my ob/gyn, the overload of information from personal research, trying to avoid diet culture, and the overall loneliness and stress of this journey. So thank you ❤
I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. For the past three years I've been in the gym and tried to eat very clean and have only gained weight. A part of me knew I'd have it because my mom does. I was pretty devastated because I really want to lose weight and I knew that it'll be hard to do. With PCOS, it's pretty difficult to lose weight. This video is super informational and helpful about what I should try eating to help with weight issues. I'm hoping I can drop some pounds soon, and all the foods for the GI diet are ones I actually love. Can't wait to try it.
Thank you so much for this video. No one ever explain PCOS for me this way. I've been fighting with PCOS for 14 years now, the way you describe cravings its real eye opener. I've always feel guilty for having such a strong cravings. (Also, who just discover Abby and now binge watching all her videos? ;) )
Thanks for this video, lots of great info! I was a sufferer of PCOS, needed medical intervention to convince my first, but as soon as I dropped about 30 pounds I was able to naturally conceive my second. And now, I'm down 120 pounds and I tell people I have beat PCOS! So I would like to put out there that there are people who have successfully 'treated' PCOS with weight lose, not everyone fails. Also I know your point is not everyone can or needs to lose weight, but it saved my life!
I have just been diagnosed with PCOS, within the last 2 months, and I’m so glad you’ve made this video! I turn 23 in a few months and since puberty I’ve had trouble managing my weight and acne. I’ve also been borderline eating disordered (I only are small dinners for 5 years, not regular meals) so my metabolism is pretty screwy anyway. I trust your advise and will be bringing up what was mentioned in this video with my gyno, psychiatrist, and dermatologist, all the women who have helped me find my PCOS diagnosis.
I love this content! I was diagnosed with severe pcos at the age of 17 (didn't have a period for a year in my teens which was a big red flag) and my specialist told me to aim for protein but never lift weights as weightlifting is "testosterone producing". I followed his advice for years and honestly started to hate walking (recommended 1 hour of walking every day) and that made it worse. So I started to ignore his advice and started lifting and it REALLY helped me out so much, and has helped with cravings. Now I crave lifting weights more than sweets (though the craving for sugar is INTENSE).
Wow... I was diagnosed a few years ago with PCOS but given very little guidance on how to manage it (aside from “take birth control”). After watching this video, I’ve made so many connections between my chronic insomnia, and cravings... the cravings especially I always chalked up to being “weak willed” when it comes to food, but like you mentioned, they are like primal cravings! Thank you so much for this content!
Omg this is really just....so soothing...Ever since I've had PCOS I have been struggling and my gyno and everyone else told me to just lose weight but it has been so hard. At one point I was even really depressed and just with no hope, so those comments hurt even more. There was a really dark time in my life. It just helps to hear that I'm not making this up and that some things are normal. With that said, I am still currently on a LCHF diet which I have found has been the only thing that helped me turn things around in a long while and I feel great. Thanks for this though, really.
Protein and high quality fats! Name of the game. Also recommend Now Better stevia products and Swerve sweeteners. No I don’t get a kickback lol! Wish I did though!
Thank you so much for this in depth research. I was diagnosed with PCOS 13 years ago and the amount of misinformation from professionals I’ve been given is insane. I’m either told that I was probably misdiagnosed because I’m too thin to have PCOS or that I most likely can’t have children (a doctor told me that at 19) it’s been such a journey to learn how to handle the uncomfortable symptoms that come along with this condition and it’s so nice to have real resources and people who care to do the proper research- a truly new world! Thank you!
I've been struggling with PCOS ever since my teens and I am 36. I don't miss periods, but I have excessive body and facial hair. Even though I try to manage it, it's a daily struggle. Even though I try to lose weight, I can only "succeed" in gaining weight. So at times I am getting at my wits end with everything and I feel like the last person on earth. This video has been so helpful in ways you may not have thought of, Abbey. Thank you so much!!! I've never respected my body and have hated it for everything that it does, but this video turned a switch in my mind and I will reconsider a lot of things
THANK YOU. Just for real. I’ve spent years trying to get a logical hold on PCOS and have struggled with the “right” diets that caused me to yo-yo in eating habits (slim PCOS here, too, so it took longer to get a dr to diagnose me correctly). I’ve been struggling to feel like I understand it all. I appreciated this video SO SO SO MUCH. Bless youuuu.
Rean Manalili hi there! Personally I just try to stay away from "diets" like keto and similar as they are never sustainable for me and I end up breaking them. I’ve very slowly removed dairy and I’m always trying to stop eating processed sugar (sigh pastries) so I can keep insulin levels in check. That seems to help my acne stay away, too. Still learning what works for me. I try to incorporate any androgen blocking foods like salmon, nuts and spearmint tea (and others). I think a huge part is just trying to de-stress and rest. Very strict diets are stressful for me lol. Best of luck to you in your journey! :)
This video made me so happy! I’m really proud of the plus sized PCOS body I’m in and all of the work I’ve done to get my period back as a woman with PCOS. For a long time, I was dairy, gluten, fast food, etc. free, and during that time, I got the largest cyst I’ve ever had. I wasn’t taking the time to find what I needed-I was just following the advice of people and doctors who had no experience with PCOS. Finding a doctor who was size inclusive and had PCOS experience was a game changer for me. I just moved to Orlando, and I’ve had to start the search process over again. This video reinvigorated me on my search to have the best team possible around me. 🎉🙌🏼
YES!!! I have been TELLING my doctors this stuff for years eventually I had to take it I to my own hands and come up with these answers myself so thank you for making me feel less alone (and not crazy haha)
Thank you so much for making this. I’ve been battling PCOS and weight gain for the last 12 years and I’ve never once been told by a medical professional that the food cravings were a legitimate symptom. It’s wonderful to finally have that be validated!
All thanks to DR RORPOPOR HERBAL for healing me of my pcos that i have been living with for the past 8 years now thanks DR RORPOPOR HERBAL for curing me.........
I have PCOS and I had quite a painful cyst pop last night I had delt with extreme bloating all day and I felt like my body had failed me, seeing this and listening to this it's so different then everything I've been told but also I love hearing this, it makes me feel like I really can trust my body and although it's tough to deal with at time to just listen to myself and what my body needs over anything else not fad diets ect, thank you for making this video and bringing abit of awareness to this topic 💗
I feel like I want to cry after watching this. I've had so many bad experiences with doctors that didn't care to help me and were so focused on making me feel guilty for my weight gain. Once, an endocrine prescribed me anxiolytics because as he put it 'i was gaining weight because i was probably anxious which was making me not follow the diet correctly and snacking too much'. I'm so glad i decided to stop seeing him after that and stop trying to find an explanation or cure for my PCOS through health professionals. The best I did for my health was to stop dieting and start exercising more, I have always eaten very healthy, so to me it was easier to manage listening to my body, than following stupid calorie counting diets. I don't care anymore if I don't loose weight, what matters to me is being healthy and getting strong. PS. Im not saying all doctors are bad, I just haven't been able to find a good one for this particular issue of mine.
I am not one to usually comment on videos. But thank you. Thank you. I've had PCOS for 10 years now after having been diagnosed as a teenager. I was told to loose weight, exercise, eat low GI and take metformin until I have a first child (I was 17...). I tried, but ended up giving up on all of it over time. After 10 years, this is the first time I felt understood.
Abbey, 2019 was the worst year of my life. I found out I have PCOS while trying to conceive, had to undergo fertility treatments and just had a miscarriage after finally getting pregnant... I can't mentally get to a place where I don't despise my body and feel betrayed by it. I don't feel like "honoring" my body when it has brought me only suffering. Thanks for the reminder.
Moldovanca oh man I have so much I’ll be sharing this year that you’ll relate to. I 100% feel you. I’ve been there. I am there. We are warriors and you’re not alone in the fight
Abbey, thank you for reaching out. At my initial appointment I wasn’t even offered treatment, the doctor just said “lose 5% of your body weight and come back”. I’m slowly recovering after my recent miscarriage and honestly, learning to eat again has been extremely difficult because I was made to feel like I brought this on myself. Thanks for sharing your painful past with us, we all appreciate it.
I have been struggling with PCOS for years and every doctor or OGBYN I've seen has always shamed me or made me feel bad about myself or that I brought this upon myself because I am overweight. I know that losing weight might be helpful, plus diabetes runs in my family, but whenever I have had any other symptoms, it gets blamed on purely my weight or my anxiety. It made me feel so bad about myself and that no one really wanted to help me. It is so refreshing to finally hear someone who actually knows what exactly PCOS does, hearing from you, Abbey who has it, and to get advice to realistically help myself and my symptoms. Thank you for making this video. I feel like I don't have to struggle so much or shame myself because I'm not doing everyone 'right.'
Thanks for making this video. When I was diagnosed with PCOS, when trying to conceive, my fertility doctor would tell me to lose weight. Yes duh of course I knew this. My fertility doctor would weigh me and take my bmi every time I went in for a check up and I felt so shamed if I didn’t lose any weight or didn’t meet the goals they wanted. For a year she did this and refused to help treat my infertility until I lost a certain amount of weight (I was definitely overweight but not unhealthy). I was doing everything I could but it just never seemed enough for them. I felt like crying every time I was in her office as she just didn’t seem to understand. I was so frustrated at them for wasting a year of my time that I just left and felt like giving up. My GP did put me on metformin, which I do believe helped in some way. Also the stress of not needing to keep up this unattainable weight loss regime. 6 months later I got pregnant on my own.
The way she’s describing the intense cravings is really important. I know you don’t really think food/sugar addiction exists, but listen to what she’s saying. It was such a good description of the physical feeling I have around sugar. It’s not just because I’ve restricted. I’ve gone months and years eating all the sugar I want, and I never feel the satisfaction that intuitive eating promises.
Molly Grace totally understand! And I mention in my addiction video that there are medical reasons for cravings like that beyond restriction. But Julie is actually promoting IE here but at the same time acknowledging that we may need medical support as well
I was diagnosed yesterday with PCOS, I went in to the gyno thinking It wasn't going to be serious but now I have to learn how ti manage it. They put me on estrogen to help me get my period. I was not ovulating regularly and I thought they would just put me on birth control but here I am. I am glad i am not alone. Now I have to go on a diet trying to manage it
I am crying watching this video. It is so informative and body-positive and it's just not part of the status quo of nutrition videos, and I am so ever thankful. From your friendly neighborhood PCOS "overweight" never-again-yo-yo dieter
Abbey on weight loss: “ive waited to mention this one because though it’s probably the first thing a doctor will tell you to do? It’s definitely controversial.” Cue annoyed face 😭💖 what a queen we pcos peeps stan
Yes!!! Every dr I’ve tried to describe it to just tells me I need to have more will power. I’ve even been suggested to get weight loss surgery to improve my symptoms.
As someone with PCOS, I went through so much infertility treatment to conceive my first child. Then I conceived my 2nd with no treatment at all BUT I had been taking Vitamin D supplements daily. While it's totally possible I just happened to ovulate that month, I attribute that conception to the Vitamin D.
PCOS & Hypothyroidism here. I appreciate how the best health, nutrition and exercise advice teach you to actually listen to body cues because they provide insights into the state of your health. So much of the bad advice pretends like the body is a dumb accessory to preen and primp but provides no valuable information. The bit about listening to the insulin response and going over what's happening prior to it was such a wonderful piece of advice. Thank you for taking on this subject!
This video helped a lot, when I experienced intense cravings I thought I was just weak and didn't have the willpower most other people have but to know it's actually linked to PCOS is insane! I've also been experiencing androgen related alopecia which I thought was odd because I lost 40 pounds over the course of 6 months and according to my doctor that should've helped my hormonal imbalance not made it worse. There were other factors like multiple highly stressful situations including divorce, I wasn't eating enough and definitely not regularly throughout the day so I think it could've all gone a lot more smoothly had I been more kind to my body during my weight loss and will definitely do things differently for the remaining weight I’d like to lose. Thanks for the video and will definitely be giving the supplements you mentioned a try!
I have had extremely irregular periods and heavy bleeding. I went to the gynecologist and she told me I might have pcos it was such a relief to find out I’m not alone with the things I’m feeling. I have been doing research and your video is really helpful . Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much for this!! PCOS is such a confusing diagnosis and I never know what the right questions are to ask my doctor because I have never gotten a full understanding of my PCOS nor did I get a lot of information because it's just that confusing and not a lot of doctors know a great deal about it (despite how common PCOS is)
I know I'm late to the party but i just wanted to say how truly informative and hopeful this video made me feel. I know I am not alone in the fact that I live in a fat body with PCOS and have been avoiding health professionals at all costs because I am always told weight loss is the only way to manage my PCOS. It is a breath of fresh air to see two thin people with SERIOUS KNOWLEDGE talk about this in a way that is factual and evidence based. HOLY S**T. Just thank you.
My doctor tried to tell me I had PCOS even though my only symptom was irregular periods and never did any sort of testing to confirm it. I don't have acne, irregular hair growth, or any other listed symptom. This was frustrating to get this diagnosis from a supposed professional with little to no indication I had PCOS and no ruling out of other issues.
This helps so much I could cry! I have PCOS and am perimenopausal at 38. I started putting on weight earlier this year so I started working out. I’ve been running 2 miles every other day for months. Lifting weights and watching my calories but ended up gaining almost 20 lbs all in my stomach and couldn’t understand why but this explains so much. It’s hard when your doctor tells you to lose weight and that will help the symptoms but weight gain IS a symptom. I just hear “lose weight” over and over and none of my doctors told me how or recommended a nutritionist that specialized in this. Thank you so much for being sensitive about this.
Losing weight and reversing PCOS is very simple, but it is *_NOT_* easy. Losing weight and reversing PCOS is simple - just make sure you are not eating more than 20g of carbohydrates per day. That's literally it. I lost 30 lbs in three months this way, and I didn't do any exercise. *_BUT_* losing weight and reversing PCOS is not easy - carbohydrates are *_HIGHLY_* addictive. This means you will experience unnatural and extreme cravings if you suddenly reduce your carbohydrate intake. In fact, you will experience many very unpleasant symptoms as you go through sugar withdrawals - cravings, headaches, mood swings, low energy, muscle pain, etc. It's literally like quitting an addictive drug like alcohol. These symptoms will last 3 to 12 days depending on each person. It took me six days for the really bad symptoms to pass. If you endure the unpleasant symptoms, you will eventually reach a breakthrough and start feeling better and better every day. You will have made it through the hardest part of the process of reversing PCOS. 📌 All your PCOS symptoms will be gone in about one year *_if you keep your daily carbs/sugar below 20g._* ✏️ Do not restrict your calories!! Eat any time you are hungry and eat until you are very satisfied. If you restrict your calories, you will suffer without benefit. ✅ *Eat these foods - no limit* ✅ • Meat (unprocessed) 🍖🍗🥩🥓 • Sea food (unprocessed) 🐟🦀🦞🦐 • Eggs 🥚🍳 • Butter/Ghee 🧈 • Salt 🧂 • Water 💧 ⚠️ *Eat only very, very small portions of these foods:* ⚠️ • Dark green vegetables 🥦🥬🥒🧄 • Milk, cream, yogurt 🥛 ❌ *Do not eat these foods:* ❌ • Bread, rice, grains, noodles 🍞🥖🍚🍜 • Candies, sweets, sugary drinks, alcohol 🍭🧃🍺 • Sweet vegetables 🥕🥔🌽🫑 • Fruits, fruit juice, honey 🍇🍌🍓🍯 • Seeds, nuts, beans 🫒🥜 ⚠️ *NOTICE* ⚠️ If you are on medications, you should check with your doctor every month to see when you are ready to reduce the dosages - as your body heals you will need the meds less and less. If your doctor refuses to lower your meds, consider getting a second opinion or a new doctor. I am happy to answer any questions or address any concerns.
I honestly cannot thank you enough for this video! I was diagnosed with PCOS yesterday and was basically just given birth control and sent on my way by the doctor. It was so incredibly frustrating and confusing, so I decided to do my own research. But, like with everything on the internet, there are thousands of recommendations and opinions when it comes to PCOS. This video made it so accessable for me to properly understand PCOS and the treatments for it.
It’s NOT Inositol. There are about 9 different types of Inositol and the ones that make a difference are Myo Inositol and D-Chiro-Inositol. Please clarify this before women start buying general Inositol supplements.
Before I was diagnosed with PCOS, I saw a male OBGYN once. I told him that I was already 4 years in, trying to conceive, with no luck. He told me flat out to lose weight. He did not even try to see if he could figure out if there could be something else going on. I then asked him if there was a fertility doctor I could see. He told me that at my weight he would not even recommend me getting pregnant. I never went back to that doctor. I finally have an OBGYN after 6 years, that actually wants to help me. I did not understand that what was happening to me, was not my fault.
The moment she said cravings w pcos are like craving air ... i couldn’t have related more.
I started CRYING.
It literally feels that strong. like you might die if you don't eat right now.
@@Goldfishstick YES! and my husband has never and obviously will never understand. It's like your body is telling you that you are starving even if you obviously are not.. and you HAVE to have sugar or carbs. NOW. It's so overwhelming.
I feel like I'm going to go insane if I don't get my cravings, they can last days or weeks.
So so glad I’m not alone! I was recently diagnosed with PCOS so I’ve started doing my research and it’s overwhelming to know that some of the things I’ve struggled with for years are actually symptoms of PCOS.
For others trying to get all the info :)
PCOS suggestions:
Foods (low GI diet/lower carb): whole wheat bread, citrus fruits, milk, bulgur, sweet potatoes, chick peas, steel cut oats, lentils, healthy fats and proteins, higher fiber carbs, stabilize higher GI carbs with lean/healthy proteins and fats, be careful with restricting/too low calories/too few meals.
Supplements: vitamin d, probiotics, omega 3, inositol (!!)
Herbs, etc: macca root, ashwaghanda, holy basil, licorice, chase berry, tribulis terrestris.
Anti-inflammatory foods, reduce CRP
Get a lot of sleep (7-9 is the typical recommendation) and stress management, quit smoking cigarettes, get acupuncture, avoiding known potential endocrine disrupters (eg BPA).
Exercise, yoga, meditation and massage, etc? (Not mentioned)
weight loss for overweight women? More in-depth info in video.
Eat enough food! Especially protein, and in AM and before bed.
Medications (eg metformin, etc)
Move your body in the way that fits for you
Work on loving your body and RESPECTING your body! Have compassion for your body and gratitude for what it can do. ❤️😊
Isn’t milk bad for PCOS?
thank you ❤️
Thank you!
Thanks a lot
Thanks so much for making this video. Learning that 86% of PCOS sufferers have an eating disorder makes me seriously emotional. I am that statistic. I know too well why women like us are so vulnerable to body image issues.
S it’s very unfortunate 😔
I'm there in the stats with you ❤️🤗
This was the most compassionate and humanizing PCOS educational content I have ever received and it helped me alot with going to my next dr appointment
Hello I know Where you can order herbal medicine for a great herbalist who help my wife
Contact her and her also cure infections, pcos period Low sperm count, Hepatitis B and C, Herpes, Asthma, Cancer, HSV 1 & Elephantiasis, etc cetera.
Yes!
I cried watching this. For years I’ve had insane cravings and I never thought it was related to PCOS. I’ve always felt less than for never being able to properly control them unless I starved myself. This is a fantastic video, Abbey. Thank you
Juliana Curi I am so glad it’s helpful
I cried too, same reasons. Ugh, I understand how you feel. I used to blame myself for the cravings and putting on weight and didn't even think it was related to PCOS
Me too. It is so helpful that I feel acknowledged by professionals. Thank you so much for this, Abbey!
We have these insane cravings for sugar and refined carbohydrates due to high insulin resistance
I hear you, sister. It’s exhausting trying to manage with all the conflicting advice and misleading information out there.
I’m with you girly.. i feel the same way
It's ok , l have it too but it could have been much worse , there are people who deal with way worse than us .
Try Dr Jason Fung. He might be just the person you’ve been looking for.
Same! Doctors didn’t do anything to me, instead they just prescribed me birth control pills without telling me what pcos actually was. It took me couple of years to know what it was😡
@@rosed3281 my nurse practitioner did the same thing. She’s very disappointed in me because I’ve stopped the birth control and metformin
Hailey Armer ugh that’s so unfortunate 😔 but I’m glad this had helped!
Amie C hi amie, I also suffer from pcos and adhd. What treatment worked for you?
Thank you for mentioning people with PCOS who are not overweight, I always feel so lost when reading weight lose as the main way of treating PCOS!
same here
Same here!
Thank you so much.💗
Solana Aurelia Summers ❤️❤️❤️
Sending you love Solana. Dealing with PCOS is so difficult. It’s difficult even with support from doctors and loved ones. Stay strong and maybe even show your family this video. It may help them know where you are coming from more.
I know your comment is from a year ago... but I hope you have found good care... sooo sooo sorry you are going thru this at such a young age. I just got diagnosed and I’m 30.... I didn’t have symptoms until I was 26... I’m wishing you well❤️
@@curlygirl9023 thank you so much
Omg I’m 16 too!
When she mentioned sleep disorders and it's currently 3:30am 😳
PCOS and hormones affect sleep for sure!

I'm shocked by this. At a loss for words really. So many people's lives could be completely changed they had access to advice like this.
Emmanuelle Martel thank you 🙏🏼❤️
My PCP and my OBGYN both know I have PCOS and have less to tell me about managing my PCOS than this 24 minute video. What the hell?
Krissinator typical 😞
Same!
You should see a endocrinologist.
Is low carb diet helps you to cure pcos? Will it reduce the facial hair and other symptoms.
Low carb as in bad carb or do you do complex carbs ?
@@saradarv1161hey thanks for sharing this. Could you tell me a little bit more about the smoothie you make and what goes in it please?
Also, Abbey, I would be super interested in a playlist of low GI recipes!

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 18 and I had to wait to watch this video because I knew I would get emotional. And I did. I'm SO glad someone with an educational background is FINALLY discussing PCOS on the internet
Charlotte L glad it was helpful
D O glad you found what works for you!
Had the same experience while living in Colombia...dropped 30 pounds very easily, but gained it all back when I returned to the US
Ugh this is so discouraging to read.
Thank you ❤️
A few points -
1. this is why we need OB's or doctors specifically trained in PCOS.
It makes a world of difference.
in France they REFUSE to give metformin for pcos.. :(
I did go to a pro that specializes in pcos and they didn’t do anything to me .
@@user-zo1dv4in8d sameee
Trust they are well aware!!! PCOS brings in the money for them so why would they fix pcos if it meant losing out on money?!
I literally SOBBED in the clinic room when my primary care provider had told me she knew what I was going through and could help 😩😭 she gave me metformin and referred me to a nutritionist. I have since found my path on how to manage it and now have a regular cycle as of August 11th (cycle started on time this month as well).
I'm over 45; was diagnosed at 18 and this has been the most informative and helpful information I've ever heard! Much appreciated.
Did u get the pelvic ultrasound? If so, did the doctor apply pressure to ur abdomen? I'm asking because Im 16 and just got mine done yesterday and I still have discomfort in that area from when she pressed down with that instrument 😣
It never occurred to me that my ravenous cravings were a symptom, and that everyone didn't experience cravings that way. Wow!
Isabel Carvajal totally ❤️

Im 33 I found out last year
Amen to this im thinking the same thing 😭😭😭
Abbey, I wish you had a podcast 😭 I would love to be able to listen to you while I'm at work so I can learn more about nutrition
Nikki Star good idea!
Abbey Sharp so does that mean you might make one? 😁😁
I waited 8 months to see my first gyno and he told me the only "cure" was to go on birth control... I said absolutely not
Wow I needed this video!!
Ok bye 😬
Just to add: I feel HEARD! I cried watching the video because this month has been particularly bad and I’m just so overwhelmed in trying to manage my symptoms. Thank you Abbey!

Hope it helps other people as well
Thanh Nguyen amazing! 🙏🏼❤️
Thanh Nguyen I just ordered a bottle of Inositol, I’m going to see how it works for me.
Is Myo-Inositol what they mentioned in the video?
Hanna Bryant I actually knew about this supplement from Martin MacDonald (His IG account is @Martinnutrition if you want to seek more advices from him). His recommendation is:
- 2-4g per day of 500g Myo-Inositol is a seemingly good starting dose.
- There is another form of Inositol called D-Chiro-Inositol, don't use that.
(And if you insist on using it, DM him on Instagram for advice.)
- Take it daily for 6 months.
Results can come much sooner but for some people/issues it can take that long. It took only 1 month for me to get my period back.
Thanh Nguyen thanks so much!!!!
Jessie J 271 thank you 🙏🏼
Casey Mullen I’m glad it helped!
Same girl it’s been a nightmare
Casey, I feel you. Same for me. Both my father's mother and his sister had Hashi's. No one had pcos that I know of, but I do. Fighting not to become diabetic over here.
Are you on Synthroid? Most people are and it's just not an effective way to control hypothyroidism. Most people need T3 added to Synthrpid or else T3 alone.
Are you on anything for PCOS?
I have both as well :(
I cried so hard.
Zee Cook that is so wonderful to hear!
Bethy M 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Unfortunately most conventional docs are clueless; they just want to hear your story then write a script for pills and send you away.
I've made several videos regarding PCOS and the different types of PCOS. Yes, there is more than one. Glad to see more people talk about PCOS. When I was diagnosed, I was a lone wolf.

@@mostimportantmegan Yes very strange. Hormones are very powerful, but it seems not a lot of doctors are up to speed with them and their effects on women

Thank you so much Abbey for this video! as a 16 year old who has just been diagnosed with pcos and who has had past eating disorders it has helped me to not relapse into my old restriction habits, I wish all doctors informed their patients like you do for us, so much love for you Abbey. Thank you!
Excited to watch this video, I was diagnosed with PCOS in April 2019, a couple of months before I turned 21!
Rose I hope it helps!
Intuitive eating won't help though since your entire hunger system is taken over by hormones (heaps of insulin but also ghrelin, lack of leptin, plus estrogen also builds of fat tissue) so if you eat what your body tells you - especially with pcos - you will not stop eating/getting fatter...Listening to your cravings at some point is important though - write down when and how they are happening, find a way of preventing them (f.e. eat smaller meals but more often to keep the blood sugar levels consistantly over the "craving" level) and maybe even find sth that satisfies your craving without being the craving (f.e. my craving for chicken nuggets can also be satisfied by the plant based alternatives from the vegetarian butcher and my craving for choclate milk can also be satisfied by a dark choclate drink)
If you wanna lose weight aim for 500g a week, measure your calories (even if you have PCOs you will not gain weight if you burn more calories than you eat!) and don't go too far down with your calory intake (anything under 1500kcal will end up in cravings and weight cycling), eat healthy, frequently, with sugars that are digested slowly (f.e. wholewheat) and fibre - don't starve yourself and figure out which healthy foods and meals you like! plus also be active (low impact sport if you are overweight!
A few more helpfull tricks:
1) Invest a few dollars and get yourself a scale that measures body fat and a few other things - it will help you stay on track when you see you didn't lose any weight but you lost fat! My scale has an app to do that and it cost me less than 30$
2) Get an app like lifesum to track the calories so you don't have to do that on your own because it's a struggle!
Emaline L. Thank you 🙏🏼❤️
I just want to say a HUGE thank you for this video.
Am so grateful to you DR RORPOPOR HERBAL on RUclips, for curing my PCOS sickness within 14days, with your natural supplement🌿...........
Thank you so much for making this video. I've been struggling with PCOS for 2 years and have been feeling lost with the lack of guidance from my ob/gyn, the overload of information from personal research, trying to avoid diet culture, and the overall loneliness and stress of this journey. So thank you ❤
Jonny Gabriel 🙏🏼❤️
Julie's words about PCOS and body respect were so fucking healing to hear.
Veronica Wassing I’m so glad it worked for you!
Carlysaurus thank you and best of luck ❤️
I love this content! I was diagnosed with severe pcos at the age of 17 (didn't have a period for a year in my teens which was a big red flag) and my specialist told me to aim for protein but never lift weights as weightlifting is "testosterone producing". I followed his advice for years and honestly started to hate walking (recommended 1 hour of walking every day) and that made it worse. So I started to ignore his advice and started lifting and it REALLY helped me out so much, and has helped with cravings.
Now I crave lifting weights more than sweets (though the craving for sugar is INTENSE).
this is the first video on youtube that actually talks practical treatment options without waffling on the topic. Thank you so much for the advice!
Hello I know Where you can order herbal medicine for a great herbalist who help my wife get rid of PCOS and it also cure other sickness
I cried when she mentioned cravings. It’s so hard
Protein and high quality fats! Name of the game. Also recommend Now Better stevia products and Swerve sweeteners. No I don’t get a kickback lol! Wish I did though!
I love how your picture is amber rose when she was a teenager
@@donttalktomeyoureannoying8736 omg yess!! Nobody ever notices! I’m glad someone did though!
Thank you!
I teared up at the sleep part. I've always ALWAYS been a terrible sleeper
Me too. May I know your diet? I am underweight and I’ve been trying to normalise my weight.
Tara Brooks amazing 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Im in Orlando and was just diagnosed with PCOS! If you find any good doctors please let me know!
YES!!! I have been TELLING my doctors this stuff for years eventually I had to take it I to my own hands and come up with these answers myself so thank you for making me feel less alone (and not crazy haha)
MrThejewelpb 🙏🏼❤️
"and not crazy" I felt that :'(
Most Doctors are the worst when it comes to diet. They are not taught. This is why naturopaths are so important
Cured PCOS with strict Keto! Was able to get pregnant after years of trying and have never felt better! ❤
Keto definitely worked for me too ! However this last time nothing . But they added metformin so
I have PCOS and I had quite a painful cyst pop last night I had delt with extreme bloating all day and I felt like my body had failed me, seeing this and listening to this it's so different then everything I've been told but also I love hearing this, it makes me feel like I really can trust my body and although it's tough to deal with at time to just listen to myself and what my body needs over anything else not fad diets ect, thank you for making this video and bringing abit of awareness to this topic 💗
Omg I remember leaving a comment on one of your videos asking about nutrition to help with pcos, so happy with this video thankyou!! 💕
ellie oli ❤️
Revolutionary. It would have taken me 10 years to allow myself to put that into words, but it was like she was reading my soul.
Hello I know Where you can order herbal medicine for a great herbalist who help my wife get rid of PCOS and it also cure other sickness
But Julie is actually promoting IE here but at the same time acknowledging that we may need medical support as well
I have pcos since early teens...before i was overweight... thank you for acknowledging that that's a thing.
The passionate love I feel for the fact that this video constantly quotes articles to support its claims ❤🎉
Abbey on weight loss: “ive waited to mention this one because though it’s probably the first thing a doctor will tell you to do? It’s definitely controversial.” Cue annoyed face 😭💖 what a queen we pcos peeps stan
Holy shit I’m crying.
Clara Rose Elliott 🙏🏼❤️
Otterly Awkward! Cravings are super common in women with PCOS 😬 I just wrote a post on it over on IG @dietitianmonica , hope it helps 😊
📌 All your PCOS symptoms will be gone in about one year *_if you keep your daily carbs/sugar below 20g._*
✏️ Do not restrict your calories!! Eat any time you are hungry and eat until you are very satisfied. If you restrict your calories, you will suffer without benefit.
✅ *Eat these foods - no limit* ✅

⚠️ *NOTICE* ⚠️
If you are on medications, you should check with your doctor every month to see when you are ready to reduce the dosages - as your body heals you will need the meds less and less.
If your doctor refuses to lower your meds, consider getting a second opinion or a new doctor.
I am happy to answer any questions or address any concerns.
*tears up as she remembers being told she has to lose 30% of her body weight to treat PCOS when she was 20 years old*
that literally happened to me TODAY. wow i feel seen. insane
and im 20 too :(
I honestly cannot thank you enough for this video!
Would Abbey please comment?
Elizabeth www.verywellhealth.com/inositol-for-pcos-info-2616286
I agree with the Inosotil types that you mentioned.
Yup! It's said that the combination of Myo and D-Chiro works just AS WELL as Metformin if not BETTER! 👏🏽
Can someone show some science evidence which is best to take so we understand better
