  • Analog Delay has made a massive resurgence in the last 10 years. Guitar players have been looking for warm sounding repeats that digital pedals don't quite replicate. Today I am comparing 2 modern classic analog delay pedals; the MXR Carbon Copy and the Boss DM-2w. For drive I am using the Mooer Blues Crab, which is a Blues Breaker clone and One Control Golden Acorn D style drive.

    Ever since being discontinued way back in 1984, the BOSS DM-2 Delay pedal has remained highly sought after by players everywhere for its warm, “bucket brigade” analog delay tone. Now, the DM is back! With the Waza Craft DM-2W, the coveted stomp has been reborn with switchable sound modes and greater versatility for today’s music styles. Using 100-percent analog circuitry, the DM-2W’s Standard mode nails the lush sound and 20-300 ms delay range of the original DM-2. Flipping into Custom mode instantly changes the sound character to a cleaner analog tone with over twice the available delay time.
    Go from crisp "bathroom" slap echoes to epic, Gilmouresque delays with the MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay. Featuring 600ms of delay time with optional modulation, and a three-knob layout that controls Delay, Mix, and Regen. In addition, there are two internal trim pots that offer user-adjustable width and rate control of the modulation for even more tonal options. All done by a completely analog audio path for authentic rich, warm analog delay-made possible only by old-school analog bucket brigade technology. True bypass.

    I love it! Great video and opening presentation. I’ve a DM-3 on my board for a decade now and I love it. I bought a Carbon Copy as a back up then I also bought the CC Bright! I’ve played the Waza and it’s a fine pedal. Great value for money if you like to keep all things Boss.

    MXR delay is more subtle, darker,... It's just a matter of taste I guess but I would go for the boss DM. Anyway, great demo!

      I would say the MXR is the more subtle of the 2. The JHS 3 series delay is pretty good, has digital and analog modes and is pretty cheap.

    I’ve owned a CC, now own a DM-2w with a Diamond MLJr hybrid delay in between. I found the CC too dark for my liking. The MLJr was just too tweakable and I found myself wasting 45 minutes playing with the pedal instead of playing. The DM-2w seems just about right to me. A little brighter and easy to find some good settings. I do like the standard mode; try the full 300ms & ~2 repeats into your dirt pedals or the dirty side of your amp.

  • @heythere6983
    @heythere6983 3 года назад +7

    I’m confused between the two. I used to think the boss was better but then on a few videos I noticed the mxr decays the note in a more obvious way aswell as getting darker faster. To me it sounds like the mxr because of that more obvious delay and darkening makes the delay sound more 3D, in other words makes it seem like it has more depth. The boss seems like then delay notes stay more upfront giving a flatter effect

    • @JasonAyalaSpare
      @JasonAyalaSpare  3 года назад +2

      I was surprised at how different they were. The CC was definitely darker and therefore needed more level to be heard. I liked the Boss better for shorter delays, but preferred the MXR for longer delays.

    • @yomuthabyotch
      @yomuthabyotch 2 года назад +1

    Great vids Jason! I have so much similar gear, Fender Custom 68, Blues Crab, Exotic Ep and both these delays. Do you notice an overall brightness with the DM-2 even when it's off cause it's buffered bypass? I'm kinda thinking of going with MXR Carbon as my main with the Joe Bonamassa theory, better to be too dark than too trebly.

    • @JasonAyalaSpare
      @JasonAyalaSpare  4 года назад +1
