  • When I was looking for info before I bought my Jackson Racing Supercharger kit for our 2013 FRS/Toyota 86, I couldn't find the kind of videos on it that I wanted to see, mostly installs and not what it's like having one or driving around or what the dyno results are. So I made my own.

    Are those full throttle pulls ?
    What mods do you have?
    How do you like the SC?

      I'm not redlining it for the most part, these are pulling to about 5500/6000 rpm (with the tune my red line/fuel cut is 8000rpm). I can't on side roads and regular streets b/c with the tune I will hit 60mph in second and be doing about 90 at the top of third. I made these to kinda show what normal driving around and having fun with it is like and what it sounds like because I couldn't find any when I was trying to pick a kit. For engine mods, I just have the JRSC kit and a DC sports catback. And I love it. It was worth every penny. If you wanna know power numbers check the dyno video.

    Let me understand the tuning for this kit for carb compliance. With the factory tune option you still need an ecutek module, then a tune from a 3d party like a Delicious tuning? Or does the factory tune option come with everything you need. Did you go with this kit so you could still smog the car?

    • @WDKWCDT
      @WDKWCDT  3 года назад +1

      Hi the Carb tune is to comply for California emissions. I live in Texas. Delicious can tune for CA, I’m sure, but the Ecutek and base Jackson Racing tune will pass emissions and also I’m given to understand you need that CARB stamp of approval for the police in CA. It’s 50 state legal.
      But we don’t have that where I live. I just did it so I’d have a usable tune to drive the thing around until I settled on a tuner a couple of months later after I did some research and got recommendations from other platform owners around here with boosted rides. I did the MAP sensor upgrade with the custom tune, which we did over email and I did the logs and pulls because I wanted to experience that and learn how to read the ECU. (I’m an IT tech. That stuff interests me).

      @@WDKWCDT Interesting, thank you. That explains why you purchased a tuner after the factory tune option. Yes, in CA we are stuck with the carb compliance because of bi-annual inspections, which also means exhaust systems need to stay stock up to the 2nd cat. Happy to hear the car makes acceptable power with just mufflers and the original kit.

    What is the price tag of this type install including tune? And what kit did you use and where did you get it?

    • @WDKWCDT
      @WDKWCDT  3 года назад +4

      Hi. This kit with the carb tune is $5k. I had it installed for $1k by a local speed shop who specializes in race cars and adding boost recommended by another enthusiast. I have the Jackson Racing c30-94 kit. I did a lot of research and this kit just had what I was looking for - turbo-like sound and performance without turbo issues and extra expense like dealing with messy oil and overheating problems, good price right in the middle (the HKS kit was #2 and slightly cheaper but it doesn’t come with a short ram K&N intake like the JR kit does, so if you want that you will spend the difference anyway), had a good reputation, people report few issues with it. I got it from ft86speedfactory and I regret not a dime spent. If you plan to add big whp (350+) get the c38 kit. It’s only a little more expensive and has a bigger rotrex with more power potential. But for my build, the c30-94 is fine.

      @@WDKWCDTthank you for your reply, you practically sold me. I really want turbo noises but without the complexity of turbo (heat management etc)

    Thank you for this! This sounds amazing. I thought when you go Forced Induction, you gotta rebuild engine internals.

    • @WDKWCDT
      @WDKWCDT  3 года назад +3

      The need for internals depends on how far you plan to crank up the boost. On my setup, no need to do that. I’m not trying to make 500whp. Ask your tuner if that’s necessary. I didn’t change anything, just running the SC with a DC sports catback and a custom tune from Delicious Tuning.

    You have nothing else besides supercharger and exhaust? yours whistles way louder and blows off lots of air compared to other cars with the same kit. Sounds sic!

      when you purchase jrsc, it comes with a full kit

    • @WDKWCDT
      @WDKWCDT  3 года назад

      That’s correct. SC kit and a catback. I also have a custom tune. Could be because I’m running a c30-94 kit and not the c38, because I’m not chasing “big power.” There could be differences between them that account for that, as a lot of folks just pay the extra $100 for the bigger blower. I don’t plan to use it to its potential so I got the other one.

    How much power it makes?

    • @WDKWCDT
      @WDKWCDT  2 года назад +1

      Out of the box tune did 247 whp and 197 lbs foot of torque (there’s a video of it on the dyno with the sheet). We added about 4 psi during custom tuning later so somewhere between 280 and 300, I haven’t had it dynoed again yet.
