I think his connection from being around in the 70s through now, being there for alot of the history of nascar is so important. Him being a Podcaster and commentator is more important that when he was a driver

To this day Jr is my favorite NASCAR racer. Very human, humble, appreciative of his life experiences and such a great conversationalist. He's wicked smart. A fantastic historian, and care taker for the sport. Being the main force behind bringing back the Wilkesboro race track. It made a lot of us fall in love again with the sport.
When I think of Kenseth's best seasons, 2013 immediately comes to mind. 7 wins and lost the championship to Jimmie by 19 points. Even as a JJ fan, I couldn't help but feel bad for Kenseth because that was a great season for him.
2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015 were really good as far as general performance goes for him. 20+ top 10s (other than 2012, at 19) and ran up front a lot. 2012 was awesome watching him and Biffle trade the points lead for a while during the first 26. But 2006 and 2013 hurt the most as a Kenseth fan.

@@JamieTheBangles11Fan That is only given the same results. In a full season points format people would race differently, and I am pretty confident in that scenario Matt Kenseth wins waaay more than 3 Cup's.
I'd love to see how many people stopped watching because NASCAR had a Jimmie Johnson problem. He's a 7x champion who still isn't beloved and wasn't beloved when he was winning those titles. The rules changes that allowed him to win all those cups probably set the sport back.

I _always_ forget that JR doesn't have a "Cup" championship. Every time I hear it, I have to think back through the years. I remember the one he lost to Jimmie because of the "it don't mean s**t" incident, but for some reason I always think that he won one afterwards.
If you're talking about 2004, Kurt Busch won the championship that year. But yeah the point penalty he got did cost him a shot at winning the championship.
I remember that year junior won the all star race and Matt won the 600. Had to be 2002 Late yellow and the 17 car inflated their tires to qualifying psi’s and were on a rail for long enough to run away with it.
Simply facts and data shows Matt was better and Jr had the name. Matt was a class driver and was a very quite type of person but had more success than Jr ever did.
Man… all the Roush drivers back then. Hard to pick a favorite. Probably Mark but man they were all good. Biffle was probably the best wheel man in NASCAR. I remember he had a car so bad it looked like he was drifting every corner, you could see him saw the wheel in the car. Carl had a drive to win like no other. Matt he was just a drivers driver. Burton he was just fast everywhere. I miss those days.
Dale passing probably did help.. I think he might of won a championship We will never no Jr. Was my favorite driver n I'm from tiny town in northern Alberta.. That's in Canada 😂
I want to know more on what Dale was talking about. How the car felt like it was bouncing in the middle of Dover race, then go away. How he said, what is this phenomenon. 😂 I want to know now too!
Would be great to see Matt run down in the Cars series and whatnot down south. Hes a hell of a late model driver and still winning races up north and Matts home track, Slinger, is a super fast short track that is very tough. I haven't been there but my home track is Anderson Speedway and theyre very similar. They actually both claim to be the fastest high banked 1/4 miles. In his own car or a JRM late model, Kenseth can win every time out. It would be awesome for Matt to run one of the Xfinity cars. Im sure he'd run up front consistently
Not true. He even said himself, the way they're on top of those super lates, theres some really good every Sunday drivers at Slinger he'd have trouble beating regularly at that track Habit is everything and he doesn't race like he used too
I listened to the in car radios in those early days - I suspect Dale was jealous of how "steady" (consistent) Matt was - pretty much entire career. Dale had the drafting "gene" like Senior, but as was pretty obvious on the radio, he was busy being an immature kid into his 30's vs. a buttoned up deliberate serious person with "racecraft" that Dale mentions, so Dale was often inconsistent and frankly probably lost with better equipment several times, vs winning or placing top 5 with lesser equipment like Kenseth and Martin often did So, very honest of Dale to point all that out - probably on some level actually jealous that Matt had maturity figured out before he did. On the contrary, Jr was always a clean / fair minded driver, not interested in tearing up equipment, and of course doing well despite all the above lack of maturity and at times lack of focus - thus respectable from Matt's standpoint as well. Kenseth, Martin, Burton, Rocketman, and a few others (JJ obviously) seemed better able to be willing to work on the car all weekend and truly work with their crews and their results (clean looking race cars at the end in top 10 alot) show that. I could tell in interviews those were things that resonated with Jr, tho he took many years (understandably looking back) to figure out the maturity thing to get to that level. I was a bit sad that he didn't get rewarded with at least one championship toward the last once he did really lean into it.
That’s not at all what he was saying, there’s zero chance NASCAR was doing anything like that. The amount of people who would have to be involved with a conspiracy that size would be astronomical and someone would have blown the whistle years ago. He was referencing how involved Dale is with NASCAR and Goodyear so doesn’t want to badmouth their terrible quality control at the time.
Frankly I miss their generation of drivers and personalities in Nascar.

Moments later: “Bulls@%t! Bulls@%t!”
Matt and Jr. is a part of the reason why the racing points changed the nascar cup series
I think he might of won a championship
We will never no
Jr. Was my favorite driver n I'm from tiny town in northern Alberta..
That's in Canada 😂
Just outside Toronto isn't it? Jk, we had a great time racing outside of Edmonton. Cheers
Not true. He even said himself, the way they're on top of those super lates, theres some really good every Sunday drivers at Slinger he'd have trouble beating regularly at that track
Habit is everything and he doesn't race like he used too
Matt kenseth and Dale senior are the only two drivers that has ever won Bristol night race has back-to-back
Its nice to hear Dale admit that Matt was better than him. His fans and the Hall of Fame couldn't
He did me like that as well 😊
GOLD !
Smooth patient controlled Matt
Matt was focused and DJr was just having fun being Dale Jr. If you don't believe me go take a look back.
Larry and magic of Nascar
6:47 are we all just going to pretend like we didn’t hear that?!?! Did Matt hint at NASCAR fixing outcomes by meddling with the tires???
I took it as the tires had an inconsistent compound for a time
That’s not at all what he was saying, there’s zero chance NASCAR was doing anything like that. The amount of people who would have to be involved with a conspiracy that size would be astronomical and someone would have blown the whistle years ago. He was referencing how involved Dale is with NASCAR and Goodyear so doesn’t want to badmouth their terrible quality control at the time.
@@Pfefferkuchenman fair enough, it just sounded like Kenseth had some huge secret when he made that comment about sponsors…
What’s up with Matt’s hair ?? Is that a rug ? Reminds me of Jimmy Spencer.
These two won the first four races in 2004.
I was a big fan fan of kenseth. I always thought if he would have gotten away from roush he would have won not only more races but more championships.
He was close to another championship like every single year
Matt won 16 races in his five years at Gibbs.
Winning a Championship has to be the beat years for any racer because without a Championship you're just a Hamlin.
You said it
Without a Championship or a Daytona 500, you're just a Mark Martin.
