I like how when pressed for more information (the sponsor that bailed, how much the Lycos contract was for), Robbie is quick to spill. These are the details of the history of this sport that may never get preserved otherwise.
Matt was asked who the other teams were that were courting him for 1998 and he didn't spill the beans out of respect to drivers of those teams at the time. Interesting and opposing way to handle it.
I saw Matt race at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine back in the early 2000s he was so smooth I knew that day why he had made it to cup that was a great interview I really enjoyed that thank you
Matt Kenseth was one of the best and i had the excitement and opportunity to watch him win races from when he was 19 to now im in my 30s and i just saw him win at slinger a couple years ago
Being from Wisconsin I always rooted for the local guys when they made it to Cup. After Kulwicki died I really needed someone to root for. Matt and Robbie filled that bill and I became a lifelong fan. Great podcast Dale and Mike.
I am older than dirt! I distinctly remember watching that race at Rockingham. Tony was quite well-known due to racing Indy cars. Matt was a nobody driving for a nobody. The thing is that Matt clearly had the better car that day after about the mid-point of the race. He tried and tried to get around Tony to no avail. I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that Tony was going to win. Then Matt moves Tony and wins the race. I almost pissed my pants!! I am yelling and screaming and my wife comes in to see if I am alright and I explain to her what had just happened. By now, someone is interviewing Tony and he is totally pissed!!! To me, at that time, this was the second greatest David vs. Goliath story ever. I became a Matt Kenseth and Robbie Reiser fan that day and it has continued on through today!!! Great story! Thanks for having Robbie on and sharing these wonderful stories!!! You guys make getting old a little less depressing and I thank you for all of us old codgers.
This was one of the best episodes ever. Robbie has such great personality and would be a great personality to have around the sport more. You can tell it's a good interview when Dale and Mike are able to sit back and have a relaxed convo! Good stuff
Being from Wisconsin Matt was kind of a home town hero. Almost every person on my street that watched nascar back in the 2000's flew a Matt Kenseth flag. Just like they would for the Packers
Sounds like the old Red Green show. The people from the border, Wisconsin and Minnesota are delightful. Salt of the earth. Makes me want to go fishin'.
Amazing how much there is to learn about NASCAR. I have had time to learn since I retired. Now I smile when people say they do not watch people driving around in circles. Too bad Nascar doesn't develop programming to help young people learn about the sport and rebuild the fan base. It has never recovered since Dale passed. Gerald.
What a great story and set of events..so interesting what happens behind all that you see at the track and on TV. You can feel the energy of the situation he was in when he tells that story.
That was an absolutely amazing story! I love all the little details you pull from this. Incredible how all of this used to work. Grass roots to big time racing. Robby is one hell of a guy. Thanks for sharing this story.
I don't think JR even realizes how many fans he has affected to this point in his life. He has brought together more people than the pope! I really feel like he himself has transcended @NASCAR. Atm @DaleJr is bigger than @NASCAR. It's pretty amazing to see when you think about the anxious, nervous, camera shy guy that drove just like his dad was when he first started.
Grew up outside of Hartford on family farm and was able to attend some races at Slinger in the 1970's before these guys raced and before it turned into a more popular race track and it was dirt. Haven't been there in over 40 years but interesting listening to him share as I never knew this but followed Matt during his NASCAR career.
These damn car racers have the best stories in the world. Just to get to the dang race is an adventure, let alone trying to compete with legends with 10 times the budget. Truly amazing perseverance these racers show.
I have to admit Matt passing(moving) Tony was the moment I became a Kenseth fan. It's awesome hearing Robbie tell stores about them and how it all started.
The fact Robbie ran his team with 800,000 contract for sponsorship and still paid off all debts is a testament to how efficient he could be. No wonder they won it all in 2003. Absolute consistency and knowing what must be done and executing.
I remember 5 years previous he won the 1994 Miller Lite Nationals at MIR though now just ran at Slinger. He beat an extremely talented field that night and a late charge from Rich Bickle. I remember that night bc I waited in line for 3 hrs to get a Rusty Wallace signature lol
Kenseth was super boring to me, but that story wasn’t. Good one. I remember Matt getting into bill Elliott’s car in and finishing like 8th I think in his first cup start. Maybe Dover
Another reason why nascar will never be like it was in the golden age. That could never happen today. Great stories when nascar was ran by the drivers and racers . Not corporate types.
Robbie has always been a standup guy and he gave up driving to make his team succeed, and then he and Matt succeeded together, and when they were no longer a team together, Matt was successful but not like he was as what he had with Robbie, and Matt in my opinion😊
Now we need Matt's side of the story. Dale we NEED Kenseth on this podcast asap!!
We’re screaming bro! @dalejr.
This comment aged well!
One of the most underrated crew chiefs of all time. He and Kenseth had great chemistry.
He was a heck of a wheel man in his super late.
I like how when pressed for more information (the sponsor that bailed, how much the Lycos contract was for), Robbie is quick to spill. These are the details of the history of this sport that may never get preserved otherwise.
Exactly!
Family Channel was the sponsor that bailed. Lycos didn’t pay all that much
Matt was asked who the other teams were that were courting him for 1998 and he didn't spill the beans out of respect to drivers of those teams at the time. Interesting and opposing way to handle it.
As a Wisconsinite and former racer at Slinger Speedway, having Robbie on here is like christmas😂
After your father died, I started cheering for Matt Kensth's and I miss him racing as he was a great driver and friend.
There is no denying talent.Matt was one of the best!
Thats badass the way it all went at Daytona. Gettin car painted & back in 5 hours,sponsorship,etc...good stuff!
I saw Matt race at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine back in the early 2000s he was so smooth I knew that day why he had made it to cup that was a great interview I really enjoyed that thank you
It’s great to hear the history of a driver and crew chief from their early racing days.
Matt Kenseth was one of the best and i had the excitement and opportunity to watch him win races from when he was 19 to now im in my 30s and i just saw him win at slinger a couple years ago
Wow....I think this series with Robbie is some of the best you guys have ever done. What a good guy!
Being from Wisconsin I always rooted for the local guys when they made it to Cup. After Kulwicki died I really needed someone to root for. Matt and Robbie filled that bill and I became a lifelong fan. Great podcast Dale and Mike.
Same

Matt was my man! He was way under rated in the south.
Amazing interview dirty Mo! One of your best, thanks
I'm so glad it worked for these guys! While Robbie and Matt were never electrifying kind of personalities, the sport was much better with them in it!
This was one of the best episodes ever. Robbie has such great personality and would be a great personality to have around the sport more. You can tell it's a good interview when Dale and Mike are able to sit back and have a relaxed convo! Good stuff
Along with north wilkesboro rockingham needs to make a return.
Being from Wisconsin Matt was kind of a home town hero. Almost every person on my street that watched nascar back in the 2000's flew a Matt Kenseth flag. Just like they would for the Packers
I grew up in Milwaukee and watched his dad Johnny race Hales Corners Speedway so always followed them. Thank you🏁
Knowing where they went together from where they started! Amazing!
Great story. Unbelievable what Robbie had to do to keep his dream going.
Robbie Reiser is a great interview and a great team organizer. Big Matt Kenseth fan, so this history is great.
Man now THAT was a great story! Thanks Dale jr and DMM! Sure wish the whole podcast was on youtube.
This was really cool to listen to. I was a Matt Kenseth fan. And i heard some of this before. Interesting to hear how this unfolded for him and Matt.
It's incredible how unselfish Robbie is. Mad respect for looking out for his team and not personal gain!
Sounds like the old Red Green show. The people from the border, Wisconsin and Minnesota are delightful. Salt of the earth. Makes me want to go fishin'.
I have to give Robbie’s dad John a lot of credit. A modified driver and dirt late model driver, he was a great guy!
Juniors side kick will always get it wrong with a guy like Robbie.
Robbie is real. No mendacity. No blowing smoke up the ass.
No phony politesse

These are the stories and history that make Jr’s pod cast awesome. My favorites are these types of interviews.
Been a Kenseth fan since the days of the Chevy Dewalt Busch Series car. Thank you for this!!!!
This was a phenomenal interview.
That was an absolutely amazing story! I love all the little details you pull from this. Incredible how all of this used to work. Grass roots to big time racing. Robby is one hell of a guy. Thanks for sharing this story.
Sorry, "Robbie". Didn't mean to spell his name wrong.
He was always one of those that did so much with so little!!
I don't think JR even realizes how many fans he has affected to this point in his life. He has brought together more people than the pope! I really feel like he himself has transcended @NASCAR. Petition for a new podcast about the history of racing in Wisconsin 👋
Your best podcast always have a Wisconsin side to the story
Grew up outside of Hartford on family farm and was able to attend some races at Slinger in the 1970's before these guys raced and before it turned into a more popular race track and it was dirt. Haven't been there in over 40 years but interesting listening to him share as I never knew this but followed Matt during his NASCAR career.
Excellent. Great interview
I was at Matt's first Busch race in Charlotte! The 55 team they are talking about was owned by Bobby Dotter at the time
These damn car racers have the best stories in the world. Just to get to the dang race is an adventure, let alone trying to compete with legends with 10 times the budget. Truly amazing perseverance these racers show.
Loved Matt. My kids knew it and gave a green die cast 17 for my top shelf, still there.
Dont know if ive ever been kept on the edge of my seat like this for a racing story....lol....
This is the part of nascar and Dale jr download. Awesome.
Gotta love that story. That was what racing used to be about.
I have to admit Matt passing(moving) Tony was the moment I became a Kenseth fan. It's awesome hearing Robbie tell stores about them and how it all started.
Loved this storyline
Great interview. Enjoy listening to Robbie would love an opportunity to chat with him.

Excellent segment, and guest selection. Great stuff!
Very cool story!
Leave it to a Badger! On Wisconsin!
Good thing he went to with Matt Kenseth since his old team went with Derrick Cope.
Love this story!!!
16:00 that was one hell of a nice understanding banker
I remember 5 years previous he won the 1994 Miller Lite Nationals at MIR though now just ran at Slinger. He beat an extremely talented field that night and a late charge from Rich Bickle. I remember that night bc I waited in line for 3 hrs to get a Rusty Wallace signature lol
Good ol Wisconsin Boys
DeWalt and Lycos schemes are 2 of the most iconic in NASCAR history, IMO.
Awesome story!!!!
I loved Kenseth complete driver
We have GOT to get Matt Kenseth on the Podcast.
After all this is said by Robbie. Jr. Just gotta get Matt to come in on the download and give us his story!
This is great story book stuff!
I used to sell the gas at Madison International Speedway in 1992 so I remember some of their battles but Matt was in a class of his own there
I love the content when the inner workings of these teams are explained like this episode. Very interesting.
2000 Matt and dale junior came up north on a off weekend to race at Cayuga speedway. thats grass roots and Matt won the race.
Robbie Was Nightmare Crash At Talladega NASCAR Busch Grand National Series From 95 Speculator Arca Brakes Thanks For Uploading
I remember Matt filling in for Bill Elliott...clyde was being born and Bill was on baby watch and had to dip out.
Robbie looks like Erik Jones in 30 years in the thumbnail
Robbie seems like a good dude.
Great story
Dirty Mo media I am subscribed to you but get no notifications why is that plus we didn't get to hear about the Talladega race but still a cool story
Next to the subscribe button is a arrow for a pull down menu. Be sure to click on "all" in that menu, if you already did that, then IDK.
Pretty interesting hearing the inner workings of a busch car team
Great podcast you do. Would you like a couple more 79 Rookie of the Year Dale Earnhardt sun drop bottles?
Pretty smart (thankful too?) putting previous sponsor onto race car, just because you feel like it
For all you hipsters. Kenseth one of the best car control drivers God ever created.
inverting the field every time, id intentionally Qualify slow
Kenseth was super boring to me, but that story wasn’t. Good one. I remember Matt getting into bill Elliott’s car in and finishing like 8th I think in his first cup start. Maybe Dover
94 Macdonalds car

Dale will run it full .
8:54 what does he mean when he says he wasnt over what he gone through?? Im in a situation myself..
He was in a crash at Talladega and was hurt, if I remember right he hurt his head also.

I was at that race.

Badass
Another reason why nascar will never be like it was in the golden age. That could never happen today. Great stories when nascar was ran by the drivers and racers . Not corporate types.
BOBFISH number 71 Robbieeeeee Rieeeeeeeserrr
Robbie has always been a standup guy and he gave up driving to make his team succeed, and then he and Matt succeeded together, and when they were no longer a team together, Matt was successful but not like he was as what he had with Robbie, and Matt in my opinion😊
Matt was at his best when he had Robbie on his side
You have to wonder how many other drivers could have been hall of famers but never got the opportunity due to money
Kraft..."Oopps!"
RUclips miller lite 1994 nationals, 8 black white wins, is kenseth
I forgot Robbies voice.
Dale knew. win a long.
NEVER DID LIKE MATT, MY FAVORITE SAYING HE IS TOXIC TO SPONSORS
😲😲
Why Is the thumbnail a Chevy?
Robbie's team ran Chevrolet.
Hopefully JL Hears-Watches This."YOU HAD TO MOVE -BUMB MATT OUT OF THE Way
