It’s funny how Matt Kenseth is one of main reasons “the chase” exists.
It goes back even further than that. Even if Matt Kenseth won 6 races in 2003, the playoffs would’ve existed anyway. What happened in 1998, 1999, 2000, & 2001 is what led to the playoffs we have today.
@@anthonydeloreto3881 I would say the playoffs might have existed much later than in the current timeline if Kenseth won 6 or even more races in 2003. Matt Kenseth's 2003 season is one of the true definitions of "consistency rewards championship" in NASCAR, that's gotta be another "good" reasoning for NASCAR to go with the playoffs.
@@s21b0b NASCAR was already discussing about changing the points format long before the 2003 season. So those discussions got underway already by then.

Favorite driver since I got into the sport in 2008. Overall seems like such a great guy as well.
That was his second winless season (2001 being the first). But I can’t blame you though.

Greg Biffle was the goat for letting Kenseth win at the 500 in 2012. I remember the morning after learning about Kenseth winning and was so darn excited about it. Wish they put the Logano wreck on, but still a great compilation!

My favorite Matt Kenseth memory for me was Martinsville in 2013 when he & Jeff Gordon battled for the victory. Jeff raced him hard & clean & held off the winningest driver that year!

Growing up in Wisconsin, everyone in the state was a Matt Kenseth fan. But one of my favorite moments, along with taking out Joey Logano, is one of his official last races in NASCAR. Kenseth was a backup driver if one of the driver's couldn't make a race in 2020, and one of those races was at The Brickyard itself, IMS. I remember watching that race live, and Kenseth got 2nd. I still cried a little anyways, cuz it was just a surprise to me that he raced even. That would be the last race I'd see of him on TV live, and I was intrigued throughout for sure. Hell, even my dad watched this one race to see Kenseth again. It was truly amazing

Matt and Kasey tangled so many times in 2013. I gotta admit I hated him that season, but he is one of the most underrated drivers of all time. A true NASCAR champion
Didn't know who Matt was until 2003 after he won Vegas. After that race I became a fan for life. I miss seeing him race.
“We need to come back & do this again” - Matt Kenseth after winning the 2003 Cup championship. Little did he know, this would be the only title he would ever win. Came close in 2006 & 2013 finishing 2nd both years to Jimmie Johnson.

I was a fan of Matt when he was racing in busch series. The only race I got to go to in 2000 was the 600. I couldn't believe he won that race that night. I felt like I was the only person wearing a 17 Dewalt shirt in a sea of Earnhardt and Earnhardt jr shirts. It was great.
He was my favorite driver. Always wanted him to win every race

I’ll always be a Kenseth fan 🤘🏼 I remember being around 8-9 years old watching NASCSAR for the first time.. something about that yellow Dewalt 17 just stood out for me. Didn’t care how good he was to be honest 🤣
I was about 6-7 and I was born on may 17th and he drove the 17 car and it kinda just stuck

The 2003 Nascar season was awesome and I was so happy for Matt. So what if he only had one win, the sport was about skill, reliability, power and good luck back then.
Everything seemed to go whomperjawwed for Nascar after the changes they decided to make. More and more and more changes and I sure lost interest.
How he never won the championship in his first JGR season is a mystery. A shame.
The man that was so good and so consistent that he basically killed NASCAR! We need old rules like back then and better drivers like back then. Matt and Mark Martin should start their own series. It automatically have to be better than current NASCAR.
