The best "gimmicks" are the ones are aren't too far from reality. Piper did an interview with Mean Gene, & Bobby Heenan about gimmicks & the host pointed that out & Piper took it as an insult. He HATED being called a gimmick. Even Bobby Heenan tried to talk him down a bit, but to no avail. Piper couldn't & wouldn't see the line from where his in ring work began & who he really was. To him it was all he knew & understood.
Warning: He doesn't talk about spending $10K apart from having a shrimp cocktail and filet mignon. There is nothing to see here except for an an annoying interviewer who keeps interrupting and laughing.

Shawn was a terrible enabler for others dealing with habits. This is why many top wrestlers respected the wrestler Shawn Micheals in the ring but not him at all out of the ring. Steve Austin for instance has been very vocal about this on several occasions on what he was like in the past. This has a dark side to it...
