Lifesaver. I just came back from my garage to figure this out. I managed to get the bolts easily, figured out the gas cap and I knew there was ONE more thing. I was convinced it was a secret bolt.
Thanks Kipp for your most excellent advise on this frustrating pain-in-the-ass assault on this Craftsman 675 walk-behind trimmer plastic engine cover removal. I almost ripped it off out of frustration and summer madness. Keep-up the great work my friend.
Husqvarna LC 221A That hook is under the orange name plate held on by two hooks facing outboard each side of the engine. Remove that and then you see the hook talked about in the video. I had to use a screwdriver to move it back, but it worked just fine. Thanks for the video.
Mine is a Black Eagle lawn mower. I removed the 2 nuts and fuel cap. I have to lift the back of it enough to lift it over the 2 screw threads but it still won't come off. Thinking about my slege hammer for second go??
Wouldn’t work on my Troy Bilt 330 until I found a soft spot on the paper label. I punched a hole in the label to reveal a square hole. Use a screwdriver in the hole to release the hook!
Was just gifted a mower with this engine that’s in rough shape. I’m having trouble getting the screws off for the engine cover. I think due to all the dirt / debris over the years. Any tips?
Try prying up the sticker plate. I have a craftsman and this worked for me… someone above posted about the little hole under the sticker to release that stupid hook.
It is pretty difficult but you have to lift off the top cover to get to the back screw. On the very front at the bottom you have to pull out the cover. When you get them out there are 2 more about half way back. Just pull up with a little force and they will pop out. On the back at the bottom you will see 2 slots. Use a small screwdriver to help release those tabs. A pain in the ass. Take the cover off and holy cow there is the third screw lol. Good luck
If they are bolt heads, what size are they? I came here to find out what was going on in those two deep, dark tunnels. It doesn't look like a screw or a bolt to me. Maybe they are a bit rusted, because, what deep dark water receptacles they are.
Take off the sticker plate on the very top. 2 snaps on the front 2 more half way back and 2 more in the back. Pain in the ass. Oh, the screw is underneath. Good luck

Thank you ever so much. You saved me from a melt down. You know your stuff!
Under the sticker in the front of my cover was a small access hole that allowed me to unclip it by pushing the clip back

Doesn't work man. I removed the 2 screws holding cover down and the front of the covers comes off but not the back. I have a Murray 450E...
Same here I am about to smash this mower into tiny pieces
