Thanks for watching!
It’s sad that Nissan’s image has gone so downhill (see BAE for reference) because they really do make decent mainstream cars again. The current Sentra is a good car for many people, and there really isn’t anything inherently wrong with it.
The only issues I can think of when Nissan comes to mind is how dated their luxury cars look by comparison, and the fact that their JATCO CVT transmissions are really good in their hybrids, but are absolute dog in ICE-only models with no explanation as to why that is.
I think Nissan's problem is them not really doing anything to change/distinguish their brand image since it got damaged. They've always been a reasonably solid option as far as reliability goes, but that CVT issue and the CEO controversy really killed their reputation. There's also the "insane altima with half a bumper" stereotypes because that entire segment of Nissan's cars are intended for poorer buyers/lower credit scores.
They're also just kind of a "boring" brand in a lot of people's eyes. Their economy sedans are middling in comparison to Toyota and Honda for the same price. The sports cars they sell have been the same platforms since the early 2000s except the R35, which is not actually that popular among other options for 100k+ (zero people in the USA will pick that over something more "luxury" like a Corvette or Porsche unless they really like JDM cars)
^It may be true that a lot of people don't care about these factors, but everyone hated on Toyota for years for being "boring beige car builders" until they introduced their new GR lineup. I love Nissan as a brand and wish they could do better, but the car market is a really fickle beast and it's hard to know what will make consumers buy
blame single moms
It’s okay, but there are better brands out there. Though you could probably find a Sentra more easily than a Corolla or a civic right now.
It’s the cvt’s and leasing to low score blacks when other companies don’t
finally someone who really test drives the car
For $24k, that is a mighty fine looking interior. I had to double check when this video was released lol
Depending on when you buy & where you by; you can get SR premium for practically the same price...
I like it for running errands, commutes, never worry about it getting vandalized or stolen like it's cousins: Honda, Toyota, Mazada equivalent...

I had a new Sentra as a rental for a few weeks recently and was actually pretty happy with it as a daily commuter.
Huge props to Nissan for keeping gloss black in the interior to an absolute minimum, looks like it's only around the shifter. I wish Honda had that sort of restraint before flooding the regular Civic interior with gloss black, as well as Mazda with the Mazda 3, and Toyota with the GR Corolla
Don't leave out VW lol, they damn near plastered even the Arteon in gloss black in all the worst places.
@@flyingbullet12 dude the manual shift knob in the new GTI/GLI is gloss black
Actually the paint color includes the blacked out roof but mine looks better my Sentra is a SR Midnight Edition it’s Aspen White tricolor with the super black roof, front grill , rear super black spoiler and also the gloss black shiny rims
I just got a Sentra SV August 2023! It was 25,500. I loved the interior black and beige leather seats! Gorgeous. I love Nissan! Only brand that I buy!
I have a 2020 Sentra SV trim and love it! I agree that it handles surprisingly well for a basic compact sedan. It's also quiet, comfortable, and gets great highway MPG. Next time you drive a Sentra, Altima, or other CVT Nissan look at the back of the shift knob, near its base. You should see what looks like a white minus sign. It's a sport mode button! "Ds" will display on the instruments and the car will hold revs higher, feels better cornering and provides some engine braking.
The pedal in general just feels a lot better and it feels like you have more control of your speed
Thanks for the great drive. I’m a child of the 80’s and 90’s and I remember Nissan was the go to brand for affordable sporty cars. Glad this one actually handles well (for the price). Thanks!
Kudos to Nissan for putting in the effort to make something on the affordable end of the spectrum that still is a nice fun to drive package. My hope is that these cars are "gateway" cars as we build another generation of enthusiasts. My ulterior motive? The more enthusiasts, the more demand for more driver focused cars for the older generation too! Keep 'em coming. In my day, it was the second gen Prelude, VW GTI and Scirroci, Celica, etc. . This Sentra, with 4 doors, might suffice for young folks who might NEED the 4 doors, but don't want sluggish steering or to corner on their door handles. Very refreshing.
Great Review! This Sentra provides tremendous value for what you get. I had a used 1984 Nissan 200SX hatchback coupe back in 1987-1990 when in college. A wedge shape sporty design with sloping hatch back. Light blue paint and light blue fabric/velour upholstery - A beautiful color combo. Same DNA as the Sentra today - compact, affordable, fuel efferent, sporty and fun. I loved that car. Very reliable little Nissan. I like this new Sentra too!
That's a new color too for '24. I have one of these in SV trim as a lease vehicle and have been averaging ~40 mpg every tank. Individual trips as high as 46-47. Putting around town it accelerates nicely without needing too much throttle, CVT keeps the RPM's around 2k. As far as an A to B commuter car, this is probably the best Sentra that we've had in ~20 years. Unfortunately the great chassis and handling is wasted without a performance model. Even a slightly spicy one equivalent to an Elantra N-Line or Civic Si is badly needed. A revived SE-R with ~200hp and a full on Nismo model with ~300hp would be amazing...
How is it reliability wise ?
@@mahinahmed2316 so far on this one, no issues. I had a '22 before this that had a weird issue with going into some sort of limp mode if it had to accelerate up a steep hill with cruise control active. Would throw a few lights and the cruise wouldn't work anymore. Also felt like the car wouldn't accelerate properly. But if I stopped the car, shut it off, opened and closed the drivers door, then restarted the car it would clear everything and act normal. As usual the dealership couldn't replicate the issue.
I just read an article that stated Nissan is in the works of producing a new 2024 Sentra Nismo DET with 6 speed manual, which I believe they may increase the output of the engine as well. Nonetheless, it seems they may be going back to their traditional roots of zippy cars that are fun to drive.
@@themodernhvacenthusiast3889 sorry to tell you but that's not happening unfortunately.
Nissan has made a pleasant return. All the haters, get lost.
Nissan still blows. Their reputation is non-existent, their reliability is also tarnished.
Not necessarily, rumors are they are going back to their roots of making zippy cars with manual transmissions. For instance, they are currently developing a 2024 Nissan Sentra Nismo that has a 6 speed manual, which I would highly favor over the CVT (I generally hate CVTs though as they are not designed for reliability purposes, only to conserve fuel economy (MPG).
I've got a 2021 Sentra SR and absolutely love the thing. Road trip it every couple months and it handles it like a champ. Last trip I took it on was about 900 miles round trip and I averaged 38 MPG for those miles. On the highway I managed almost 50 MPG. I think for those who just want some nice features for the price, and a relatively comfortable driving experience, it's a great option. I'll probably keep mine until it dies honestly.
I did get a wireless charging pad that fits perfectly in the center console and got a wireless CarPlay adapter and it improves the experience.
How did you get 50mph?
Flat Roads & Terrain...

@@Thankful_n_Grateful Mostly all interstate driving thru the desert with cruise control going about 60-65 miles per hour and drafting some semi trucks along the way.
From Cabazon CA to Quartzite AZ I averaged 46 MPG.
Then from Quartzite AZ to Tonopah AZ I averaged 48 MPG.
I purposely drove more efficiently during that trip though. Normally I drive much faster. Lately I've been hovering between 28-35 MPG on my daily commute to/from work.
@Stratozfearz
Thank You so very much for detailed info...
It's real & not some from some specification projection or thsory...
Appreciate you adding bit concerning drafting which is completely relevant...
I myself own a '23 Sentra SR. Pretty much the same car with updated exterior. The one thing I dont like that Nissan did for the Sentra is remove the Fog Lights for the SV-SR trim levels. Those things are pretty great and makes the car look very aggressive.
Also few things to keep on note thats missed in this video is that this car still has Sports Mode (Better Throttle Response). Its that small button by the back of the shift lever. Also, you've mention that when you engage Cruise Control, the digital display automatically switch to the Cruise Control Screen. This can be disabled through settings to on the same screen. I believe its under Cruise Control Settings or Display Settings.
All in all, the car has been good to me. I am in Canada and I have around 30k Kms on the car and still drives good and love how good this car is compared to close competitors like the Civic and Corolla at both trim levels. Also, in the Canadian Market, you can get the 2023 Sentra SR in a 6 Speed Manual Tranmission. Not sure about the 2024 in Canada. I will have to look that up myself.
My nephew has a Nissan sedan, and I had one for a couple of months as a rental. I thought everything about it was just a little better than I expected. A nice feeling.
I’ve owned 5 different Toyota Camrys. It’s almost hard to beat Toyota quality. I’ve also owned a 2022 Nissan Altima SR which was a great car too! This 2024 Sentra SR would just about fit me perfectly! This is why I appreciate all of your videos Topher! I may have to look into trading my 2017 Camry XLE V6 at a nearby Nissan dealership beings as they have 3 Sentra SR models at their dealership! I know that dealership would make a great deal! Merry Christmas Sir! Mark in Iowa.
You might as well keep onto your Camry. What’s the point of trading it for a Sentra? The Sentra isn’t a bad car but I’d rather have that V6 XLE Camry.
@Jonathan-mp32x I owned a 2019 Camry XSE 4 cylinder that I bought new. It happened to be a great car with no trouble of any kind. I did trade it for a 2021 Camry XSE hybrid and loved that one too! That’s when I traded for the 22 Nissan Altima SR that my Toyota dealership had got in. In many ways I should have kept it but missed Toyota so back I went to the one owner 40,100 mile 1-owner 2017 Camry XLE V6. I had a 201 Camry XLE V6 before that and a great car it was as well. I’m simply meaning I really liked the Altima SR. It was super economical. I appreciate every response! Merry Christmas to everyone! Mark.
I’m sorry. A 2012 Camry XLE V6. Mark.
Thank you Jonathan. I appreciate your opinion. Do have a great Christmas! Mark.
@Jonathan-mp32x Agreed. I'd argue that 2006 was the final year of the classic high quality Camrys. The 2007 model was the beginning of the end of Toyota's famous quality, the oil burning issues on the 2.4 were very bad. Unintended acceleration, and mediocre plastic interior fit and finish. You know Toyota was down bad if the then four year-old '07 Accord and new '07 Altima had way better interiors than the new '07 Camry.
Wow, was not expecting this review lol. I got a 2023 GR86 last year and my gf ended up getting the 2023 Sentra SR. Was shocked to see this video pop up. Nice to see you reviewing both our cars even if they are so different from each other.
In the end we're both happy she got the 2023 SR. The new model doesn't look as attractive as the old. The front doesn't have the aggressive look anymore. The Auto Start-stop also completely killed anything the 2024 had going for it. For what they are, they are nice cars. It was cool seeing the new model from a POV. Thanks for the review!
and here I was expecting this car to be crap and came away thoroughly impressed. The CVT reliability remains a concern but this CVT seems to drive much better than new CVT's from Honda and Toyota. I have noticed in your videos that Hyundai CVT's are also less drony than H or T. Great review, if I was in the market for this type of vehicle I would definetly check them out.
ᵃ
Friends with a Nissan tech here. From what my buddy has told me he’s had virtually zero CVT replacements on any of the 2020 and newer models. Only time he can remember was when the CVT was damaged in an accident. In my opinion third generation Nissan CVT (2019 Altima, 2020 Sentra + Versa and 2021 Rogue) is about on par with competitors from Honda, Subaru and possibly even Toyota in terms of reliability
i honestly believe if nissan would ditch the cvt they would have one of the best cars on the market
They do ! Just not in the United States.
Nissan should bring back the SE-R to compete with the Elantra N, GTI, etc. 250+hp and a manual option. The more competition and choices in this space, the better.
They need an affordable sporty sentra again for sure. 95% of people really shouldn’t be buying a 40-50k anything.
They need to make an SI competitor not a type R competitor. They would most likely pull in more customers at that price point.
Yeah, i wouldn't even look at this car unless it had a manual, otherwise a nice looking car, maybe awd or is that too much to ask.
They had a Nismo Sentra at the auto show with 300 hp that may come out.
I have this car topher and i love driving in roundabouts to really test the handling ,i cant believe this regular car can handle sharp turn radius
I have a 2022 SR with the 6 speed Manual, absolutely love it
Sound is very interesting. Quite distinct from a lot of 4 cylinders, I think.
Old news NISSAN CVT haters these 2020-24 Sentra don't have an problematic transmission anymore.......
yep these new Nissan CVTs are very good
I still see the haters mentioning 2007 in 2024 in tons of 2023 and 2024 Nissan car vids. SMDH.
I sure hope that's true, I've always like the nissan sentra & would love to give it a try...
Drove a Sentra SV for driving school. This car is VERY slow, however, I agree with his comments on the cornering: the handling really is great.
nice to see a dialed back interior with basic normal sized screen and real buttons
I love this car's appearance and dimensions! With said; to truly be competitive in a compact sport segment in 2023-24 and beyond, it's got come to the party with nothing south of 200 hp! All the Brands have a 250 ish compact rocket in their camp. This cool looks too good to be this anemic! It needs at least a 50-75 power shot in the rear, to truly be in the arena! Thanks for the review! ✌🏽❤✊🏽
The Bose audio is incredible I have the 2015 and shit has been abused since 2017 when I got the car. Holding up strong to this day no issues.
Wonder how well the Sentra will handle if it's got better tires. People put performance tires on the new Prius Prime and it became so fun to drive.
The Hankooks are definitely the weak link
@@TheTopherI bought a new Sentra sv , what tires do you recommend ?
What would be a good tire for this car ? @@TheTopher
IMO this Sentra is a more complete package than the Buick Envista you just reviewed, less $$$ too.
I have one of these as a rental while my maxima is in the shop and I’m really impressed with how it drives. The car by no means has crazy horsepower but it can corner so well LMAOO
If it had a more proven, reliable transmission (needs a Toyota designed cvt, or traditional automatic) it’d be a wonderful car
In Canada, we can get a 6 speed manual with all trim levels 😏
ᵃ
If they put they 1.5t out of the rogue and the AWD, this would be a class leader. However, I’d even settle for the 2.5l engine with a manual. I know that a manual with the the 1.5t would be pretty much what everyone would want but it just doesn’t make business sense for them.
Would be a 1.2 with awd
Its a Shame, Nissan dont sell this Type of Sedans in Europe. The Versa & Sentra would be a big best seller. So nice looking Cars.
I wish Nissan made an AWD Nismo model of this. Styling wise I think I prefer this vs the Mazda 3.
You can turn off the transition from the speedometer to the cruise screen under the settings menu in that drive screen. It's under menu customization and it's called "cruise transition" I turn it off every time for every customer
Good to know, thanks!
Some how this video made me look up 1994 Sentra SE-R.
The non-linear tac on the newer Nissans drives me nuts! 0-2 then 3,4,5,6,7
I really don't mind the CVT when it acts like a CVT. I spend a lot of time (willingly) behind the wheel of a previous gen Sentra. It's a good little car. Gets incredible gas mileage ... hand calculated it blows the EPA estimates out of the water. It's not fast by any means, but it's not much slower 0-60 than my Mercury Grand Marquis ... The Grand Marquis at least makes cool V8 noises as it wheezes up to 60.
Apart from changing the CVT fluid every 15K miles, maintenance and upkeep is cheap. Parts are super cheap and they're already in junkyards if you need interior panels. The rear twist beam axle isn't going to need alignments constantly. Rear drum brakes work, marginally, for 100K ... not doing calipers and rotors every other year. Actual parking brake with no electronic gizmos. No auto stall feature to ruin the flexplate and starter. Reasonably comfortable with a nice sized back seat.
I hope enough people keep buying these so Nissan continues to make them. They're a great value for someone who needs a daily driver. I don't buy into the CVT problems as long as it's maintained.
Honestly this is quite a bit of car for someone who just wants a basic commuting machine. A lot of features for the money and not a total penalty box inside
Yes! I’ve been waiting for you to review this one 😬
bb that cvt SCREAMS to high heavens-
We love our 24...my wife's birthday present.
I bet if this thing had a 6 speed manual it would make for a fun Autocross car
It does look like it can handle corners pretty well. A surprising amount of newer economy cars have satisfying handling characteristics.
Nissan is looking nice these days !
I love how these look. I used to have a 04 Nissan Maxima executive edition, orange/black. I loved it. The only thing that sucked on that car was the dog-water turning circle, or lack thereof. I keep seeing orange/black combo's of Nissan's cars and I'm tempted to go and get one, but then remember that Nissan CVT's are absolutely abysmal. If Nissan went to a traditional automatic or made a proper reliable CVT, I'd jump on one in a heartbeat.
If Nissan put normal 5 speed transmissions they would be up top in their segment
The 6 speed manual Sentra is offered in Canada and Mexico and it's an okay manual transmission not on a level like in the Civic.......
Great car with a great review!
Might have to grab one of the 5 speed base models for a cheap ride while we pay off loans
The new 2024 Nissan Sentra still has the slow turn signal from the 2020 Nissan Sentra and the turn signal is more quiet than the 2023-2024 Nissan Altima's turn signal
It's a car of all time
3:39 When you can't tell if the engine bay is painted in body colour or primer, as the body colour *is* primer! 😃
They have always been a relatively inexpensive A to B car! A to B cars are getting more expensive every year! At what point are basic cars going to be unaffordable for the people they’re designed for?
I have to say that if I buy a new car, this Sentra and the Jetta Sport are the leaders right now for my purchase. I have driven both and have real good opinions of each. Which of the two do you like the most?
Exactly what I want out of a test drive, thank you! Except I'd like to know how it accelerates driving up a hill. Does it still have some pep? Does anyone know? Thanks!
One thing you forgot to check was sport mode!
Any other downside of this car, I plan to buy this just considering if I am ok with downside
7:30 the CVT
Honestly test drove this car a couple weeks ago, seems very sluggish and underpowered mind you, I have a 2020 civic ex sedan w the L15B7 and its a healthy daily around 240wtq and 264whp and my cvt is still like new. You'd at least think for they're top sentra trim they'd go w a higher output version of the 2.0n/a or even the 2.5 from the altima
Or put they're 7spd now that would've made a much more engaging/controlled feel to the car paired w wheel mounted paddle shifters🙌🏽that'd be beautiful

The manual available in Canada is very solid
Definetely needs a sportier spec with a good transmission.
I hate CVTs that "shift". They completely ruin the whole point of a gearless transmission.
Thank you.
Most people hated conventional CVTs and all car reviewers were hating on CVTs, so auto makers put simulated gears on it, to let if feel like a classic slushomatic. I fully understand what you mean but it isn't as bad in real life.
I really like the 🍊 exterior color
Oh the manual transmission next - must be a great fun affordable car for the new enthusiast!
I'd never buy a modern Nissan. But I gotta thank you, Mr. Topher. You produce such great content with a wide range; you also focus on the reality most people live in, which is moderately priced cars. There's a couple of channels on YT that focus on the biggest and baddest or the newest 911 or the best Corvette, etc. And those videos are great, but they mean nothing for most people. You make content that applies to most people, that connects with most people and that most people can relate to and use. It's relevant and helpful to what most people are in the market for. Thank you for staying grounded on our planet and making content that is actually useful
SV premium package is honestly nicer than the SR in my opinion.
Seems like a nice basic every day driver, but not refined enough imo for that price point. No hybrid or awd. Good listing of interior fun stuff.
It’s a good daily driver if you always drive to the mechanic
not refined enough for $23 000? what are you talking about? it has a 360 camera and apple carplay that alone is impressive
What price point
Steering wheel is the exact same as in my 2019 rogue SL ….. nothing wrong with it “sporty” enough why change if it ain’t broke
Great car, excellent review.
I hate the tachometer. It just skips from zero to two without it being apparent that it happened (on the dial)
That nissan gtr was so nice❤❤❤😊😊😮😮🎉🎉
Nissan Sentra AMG
I just hope Nissan makes a sporty nismo version with a manual
A Sentra Nismo right around $30k would be so damn killer
They should bring the 7spd from the Q50 and the same 1.6 turbo motor from the last gen Sentra Nismo
@@KingXavi0323 That trans is RWD, won't work here. And that 1.6 is nothing to write home about, need something bigger/newer.
@@JTube571 I know, i was speaking hypothetically.
Can we expect to see the new 2024 Hyundai Elantra n with the face lift?
The new Nissan Sentra shares the similar interior with the Mercedez Benz
Similar round vents, that's about it.
How did you get your map to display on Center Led?

Assuming You Have a Garage, Are You Able to Open Your Garage Door Using Any of The Controls Inside The Car or With Intelligent Key?
I think there has got to be a way with HomeLink...

Looks like you're able to display your phones apps on the screen, am i correct or are those apps from Nissan?

You Mentioned Android Car Play Auto...
Is That How You're Able to Display Maps on Center Console?
How would you compare this review to your past review of 2022 Honda Civic Sport with HPD w/ the 2.0L?
I've always been weary of the reliability of CVT's from Nissan. I have friends who have had their Nissan CVT go out in less than 100k miles. How many simulated shifts are there? When it does "shift" is it actually holding the belt on a certain pre-programmed position? I also noticed, cruising at 70mph you're only sitting at 1800RPM!
It's a beautiful car ❤
How would you compare it with a kia forte or Honda civic..??...
You forgot sport mode in gear shift
I really dont know if i should go with the 24 sentra sr w premium or kia forte gt w gt2 😭
I really hate how modern bubble cars make a set of 18's look like 15's. Jesus.
Every dealer sells those for 27. Ain't no way.
Nice, nice car 👍
a moonswatch. well, well, someone's into watches.
He has a moonwatch as well 😉
Are You Using Sports Mode?
It's button on shifter below the top nob...
Is the transmission reliable?
I just got one a few days ago, brand new , on start up, while inside, do you notice a knocking noise coming from the right side of the cabinet?
If you starting to see the cars here and in Europe, thank ford for that
If I did that 0-60 in my sentra the CVT would explode
I’m not a huge fan of the engine sound on this Sentra. I also know someone with a 2022 Sentra which happened to be a lemon, and the way Nissan handled that situation has put me off the brand entirely. It’s a shame, because the car is genuinely very nice for the money.
Your lying........
Does this car have that thing where you can tap on the turn signal bar and it will blink a few times without having to actually push it all the way down or up? Also, there is a sport mode in the car. It's a little button on the gear shift.
BSM is standard
Can you permanently disable the auto engine stop?
That's terrible MPG for a 2024 compact. My 2019 jetta gets 35 combined 40 highway.
This or a Rogue for 6-7k more ?
Good
Nice sporty interior for an economy car. It almost looks out of place.
I’m a beginner driver i would say and the nissan sentra sv 2020 is my first car and still the one i have and sometimes i say to myself man it would have been cooler to get an older jdm car and have fun with it but with this car i love it but it just doesn’t have the same after market fun and community like other cars
