This is my own personal opinion on my experience buying an owning a new 2024 Nissan Versa S--the cheapest car you can buy in the USA right now. Listen to the video for my thoughts if you're interested in buying this trim in particular; if you're after the SV and SR trims, watch other, more professional videos which cover those specific trims in detail. I wanted to record and upload this because when searching for this vehicle myself, there wasn't a lot on RUclips that got into the specifics. I hope this helps any prospective buyers because with proper maintenance this car WILL get you well past 200k.

honestly Nissan made a big mistake NOT selling the top model SR with manual transmission, it would sell like crazy. I would buy one
I got an S, but would have opted for a higher trim level, the manual transmission was much more important to me.
It would sell like crazy = like 2÷ of the total sales unfortunately lol
18k out the door plus free home delivery of a 100 miles is incredible! You did very well! Just to put it in perspective, in my area, the cheapest 2024 Toyota Corolla LE gasoline sedan (LE is the base trim like your S) is $27,000 out the door. So you saved 9 thousand bucks! Plus since it's manual, you know it's going to be reliable and last forever!
Wel he did get the msot basic with manual. I would at l3ast get the cheapest one with cvt
@@asmokingp3005The CVT will not last much over 100,000. A manual would go to 200 thousand no problem if driven right.
@@Konnersaki even if you change the cvt fluid every 30k miles
I got the Corolla for 25 OTD
@@rickm8456 how come you stopped making videos on your Corolla? Also your 2023 Corolla has a lower MSRP than the 2024 Corolla and much lower than the current 2025 Corollas
I'm probably never going to buy this car but I do admire the simplicity and usefulness of it. Thanks for the video and take care of that car it should treat you well!
Wish there were more simple cars like this
i have this exact one same color it’s awesome

Most people don’t based on the low sales he mentioned.
I have a 2023 Versa with a manual. The automakers say no one wants them but the dealer I was working with told me they can't keep them on the lot when they do get one. I was lucky to have called just after he had looked at what was coming in, I had to wait six weeks. Said while it was on the lot for the one day before I picked it up two people asked if it was available. It is bare bones not many bells and whistles as this video is telling you. The one thing I wish it had was a key fob. You have to manually unlock the door with the key. Driving it is actually kind of fun. Once you get use to it, it is quite quick. I get a minimum of 35 mpg on average. I think they would sell more if they offered them in a basic package. I paid less than $20,000 brand new. The dealer told me they don't make much on them but I think there is a market for more cars like this. They probably could ask another $1500 and still sell them. They want to make money on the bells and whistles on the more expensive cars
Dealers just say that to get you to buy it quickly.
You don't have a key fob? You should have - My understanding is MY23 Versa S models should have included keyless remote entry as standard equipment.
@@HawkLad On Trucar, there are 927 Versa S near me, and only one has a manual transmission.

Hello 24 versa s 5 spd owner myself. Love the car have had it since November 23, have 8.k miles no issues runs great. I as well am getting avg of 36.6 mpg.
Does it rev high at highway speeds? Does it rev higher than an automatic Versa? I am thinking about getting one but I drive on the highway a lot and don’t want it reving high.
@@wesleyhorne9887 It turns about 3200 rpm at 70 mph in 5th gear on the highway, but it will do it all day without breaking a sweat, and get 40 mpg. I had mine on the Mass Pike in rush hour traffic and had no problem keeping up.
It looks really good in black! I've owned white, blue and silver. I wouldn't mind having a black one.
I like the orange & the red!! CB
@@EmmyPierz-ek7hi Can't get it in those colors.
the manual recomends what speed you should shift gears, get used to those speeds and youll get great gas mileage.ive got a 2015 and rarely use first gear its super low.tnx for the well done and compehensive review..
My only wishlist with this car would be manual windows and swivel quarter windows for the front doors. No electronic switches to wear out for windows and forced incoming air into the cabin when driving. That's really old school tech but it worked great with few problems.
It would have gone well with the rest of all the old school tech in this car 🤣. It's as close to buying a brand news 90s car as you could ever hope for.
Very informative video man, thanks! Picking one up this Friday. Driving 2k miles to pick it up. Nothing local.
Man is so much easy to work on that car. I can't believe it! It's amazing car. I want one so bad
The only problem with the portable battery pack in the trunk is that, it will jump the battery with a “ no start “
problem. If the alternator is shot, car will run off the battery
and eventually stall out. The
jump start portable can jump it
again, but a parking lot should be your next destination. CB
I got a grey one in NJ, bought it for the same reasons, commuting. The only thing that gets annoying is unlocking the doors and locking it when you step out. Other than that I get 40-41mpg. Love the 5spd and speakers is surprisingly not bad at all. Although I didn’t get as good of a deal as you. How did you get under 19k after taxes? If msrp is a little over 18k and that’s not including taxes.
The Manaul should be offered in all trims, this is why none buys a manual, because they are being blocked bu manufacturers.
Can you show us the 0-60+ now?
Hopefully they still make this. #SaveTheManuals
I bought a new manual Versa back in '15 and kept it for 7 years. I put it through a lot, those cars are very tough, it never gave me a single issue. Absolutely reliable.
The 8 injectors is a comical choice but the MPG is there to back up their decision. It's super efficient.
Sucks you guys can't get the higher trim in manual, that's how they're sold in Central America.
hey man great video. Where did you get those hubcaps and how did you install them? They look really nice. Also, did you tint the windows?
@@dasaniquest8335 I purchased the hubcaps on Amazon. They were super easy to install-push and click. I tinted the windows to the legal % of my state (35%)
Hey! Thanks for the video, I don’t understand fully what you mentioned about folding seats, do they not fold at all or just don’t have the 40:60 split?
@@karthik7800 in the manual transmission trim, you cannot get the folding seat option. That only exists in the trims with a CVT transmission. If you do opt for it, the back will fold 60/40.
@@ComputersAreEverywhere ahh thats so shitty Nissan, looks like S+ trim has the folding seat for extra money and the manual doesn't get it. I can obviously pay the extra why can't they give the option while the CVT s trim gets it
@@karthik7800 yea it doesn’t make sense to me either. I would have paid extra for the folding seats; it would have given this car way more value which is why I don’t understand Nissan’s reasoning given that it would be very easy to include it.
@@ComputersAreEverywhere Just got one of these in silver and I'm very happy with it. The split fold down rear seat would be nice. Hoping maybe it might be possible to retrofit one in from a salvaged Versa CVT (shouldn't be too hard to find). Downshifting is an absolute must for acceleration. Drop it a gear and rev the crap out of it. Fortunately, this engine will run at 4500 rpm all day and like it.
Hi. I own a ‘23 Versa M/T. I had the same problem with high beams. If you switch from to AUTO to headlight on the stalk, you’ll have full control of the high beams.
@@JO-sk9pd thanks for the tip. I figured this out a little while ago, also realized this car has hill assist when it hits a certain incline threshold. Pretty neat.
I love it the way it is. The only thing I would add is the center armrest, especially if you are doing long road trips. Other than that, it’s perfect.
yea i'm thinking of getting an aftermarket one
Hey, I seen that you added new hubcaps. Can you provide a link to the ones you purchased? Having trouble finding ones that fit.
Watching in Sept. 2024, the nearest one to me (with a manual) is 200 miles away. I really, really want one (or at least to test drive one as it's been almost 20 years since I owned a car with a manual)!
The fact that the rear seat doesn't fold down is a bummer. I owned a 1996 Altima and that was a non-feature of it too. Really sucked.
18k? I would buy one. Where did you buy that?
lol. The mat you stuck to your dead pedal is for the glovebox. I bought these same mats for my ‘24 5-speed.
i have a 2015 nissan versa with a manual transmission and the transmission is holding up. my only issue is the engine is burning some oil. other than that, no issues.
Nice car. Hope it lasts a long time for you. 👍
I would buy one of these in a heartbeat if they had the 5 speed option for the SR trim.
Everyone keeps saying how slow the car is... It's really not as horrible as ppl say. 0-60 in ~9 seconds seriously isn't that bad.
Amazing insights , thanks for sharing
I would recommend you lower the treble in the sound setting when my brother first got his versa sr Nissan puts the treble to the max so it sounded weird
2024 versa a lot of car for the money- if u dont abuse it , it will last 10-20 yrs. Hows everything so far about it ? any issues ? MY nissans over the decades were always reliable efficient & never overpriced- still are good- Nissan doesnt lie or rip people off.
Please do follow up videos to show us how the car wears as it ages.
@@GenXtra65 I plan to soon. I’m around 3.5k miles and I’ve been taking notes on some things I’ve learned since my initial video.
I am thinking about purchasing one of these. Does it rev higher at highway speeds than an automatic transmission? I do a lot of highway driving and don’t want it reving high in 5th gear. I bought my daughter a manual Sentra and it revs high when on the highway. It revs around 3000 rpm at 60 mph.
The manufacturer omits Apple CarPlay/Google Auto for safety reason, because it’s manual transmission. I notice the steering wheel isn’t perfect round, the bottom is flat. More leg room I suppose
@@aps125 other vehicles with a manual have Apple car play so this was a Nissan decision to exclude it from this trim. I really love the steering wheel tbh. I want to talk about it when I make another video but it has indentations for your fingers behind the steering wheel that you can’t see which makes it more comfortable to use. TBH one of the best things about this car is the steering wheel lol. I wish the suspension was better.
In my opinion, if a modern car "infotainment" doesn't have (at least, wired) AA/ACP, then the whole damn screen is useless. And, that's a lot of real estate to be useless!
SAFETY, MY ASS.
It’s simply a cost savings… they “think” the manuals won’t sell so they want to reduce the number of option combinations for manufacturing.
Looking at the value of used cars with manuals, I would argue that there IS consumer demand for manual transmissions. However, it’s easier to game the EPA fuel economy ratings with an auto or CVT so OEMs don’t want to make them and dealers are usually afraid to order them.
Maybe I missed it, but does this base model have cruise control?
@@stevelovescars it does have cruise control. Not adaptive though. Also if you’re on a steep enough incline and you hold down the clutch and press the brake, it will apply automatic braking, so you won’t roll back. If you don’t like that, you can’t turn it off but you can opt not to hold the clutch down while on an incline.
@@ComputersAreEverywhere Nice, I guess I commented before I saw the addendum at the end of the video. Well done video, by the way. Adaptive cruise is nice, but it's crazy to think that even many luxury cars costing 4x what the Versa costs didn't have that just a few years ago. The car basically has everything one needs. Power windows, locks, cruise, A/C, ABS, traction control, even collision warning and lane keep assist, a decent stereo and costs about 1/3 of the average new car price today (it's approaching $50k!). I see this as a great alternative to a used car. Where I live in Michigan, it's hard to find a decent used car with under 100k miles, no rust, that doesn't smell like a wet dog or an ashtray for under $10k. Nissans don't have the best reputation for reliability, but those issues seem focused on the CVT. This makes the manual even more enticing and makes the car more fun to drive. If they still made a hatchback or wagon of this I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I guess they don't want to cannibalize sales of their higher priced SUVs.
Great video!
Cute socks 😊 Ive been wanting a manual again. I have an older Versa with CVT trans ...*gulp*
What’s AppleCarPlay????
Is it like 8 track tapes😳? CB
Just am radio
24:05 unfortunately this is the real 'problem' with this car; in america it has to share the road with full sized pickup trucks and semi trucks. a tiny car is not where you want to be in the event of an accident, especially when almost every other car on the road is bigger.
😂 Totally bullshit comment dude. I've driven all over the country in a much smaller car with a tinier engine. Stick shift and CVTs. You just are spreading things you hear. Learn how to drive so you can deal with traffic and the big trucks! Tell your fears of trucks to a Harley guy, haha!!!!
Does this gen have rear speakers? My 2015 only had front speakers.
Yes in the rear door on each side there’s working speakers even in this trim. The speakers aren’t great but they aren’t majorly terrible. I would like to replace the sound system at one point.
Having a manual is sch a win for the Versa
They don't make subcompacts anymore because automakers don't make as much profit per vehicle, and for the past 20 years, subcompacts have been sold as the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel new car. Especially in the US, you can just pay $100-200 more a month for a corolla or something. It really is a shame because I drive a huge sedan and I could really use a small, efficient car when mine dies. Not everyone wants an SUV.
Bought a new one yesterday, automatic trans.
Keep up with the transmission fluid changes (and other maintenance) and you can easily get 200k plus.
@@ComputersAreEverywhere I will let Nissan do all the recommended services.
make sure you change housing filters on the transmission people never change them thats why trans dont last
@@juddlebot2146my local dealership refuses to do mine on my 21 Altima, it’s going through cvt problems now at 78k miles. Probably wouldn’t be if they would’ve changed those filters
you need to show how it drives like a Driver's car. Shifting smoothness.?
@@4Lights.5Liights yea I do want to make a follow up video because I’m above 2.5k miles and I’ve learned more about how the car drives than I did in this video. I’ll record one soon, especially bc I’ve heard these cars are actually selling pretty well which I wanted to talk about.
The car shifts way smoother than the 2024 Civic sport hatch 2.0L N/A 6 speed manual I had. The civic was really rough in comparison and this is the main reason why I got rid of it and replaced it with this 2024 Versa 5 Speed. The minor downside is that it has some gear whine specially in first gear and some in second gear, the civic had almost none.
Nissan decided to put 2 fuel injectors per cylinder for "better fuel combustion".
6:30 to 6:40 Shows *Manual Transmission* and *Traditional Manual Handbrake* =Awesome becuz these can be still used as Emergency Brakes and can still be released if battery is dead!! > Crappy CVT + Crappy "EBrake" - cant use Electronic Parking Brakes for Emergency Braking and can NOT be released if battery is dead- if u need to bump start the car or get the car towed, ugh!!
Why would you carry a battery pack if you have a manual?
the battery pack is to emergency charge any devices i have and to jump my car in the event it needs a jump
in full tank whats the range?
I just topped off my tank and consider I get 35mpg bc I drive city 90% of the time, my miles to empty is 385 miles. YMMV literally
Can you give me your dealership info? I am in NY but cannot find such that good deal.
Wish geared differently with less revs on highway. 6 gears and still high revs is just unnecessary.
It only has 5 gears. Around 65mph you’re doing 3kish rpm. You do have to get used to rolling in the higher rpms but that’s where the power is, and you still get above 35mpg. If you do highway mostly you can easily get over 40.
@@ComputersAreEverywhere I agree, I had a 2024 Honda civic Sport Hatch 2.0L Naturally Aspirated with the 6 speed manual. I would get an average of 28/29 mpg with my combined driving vs my current 2024 Nissan Versa 5 Speed manual I get around 36/37 with my combined driving.
Can it survive on the interstate?
Yea, if you do 65-80 in 5th you’ll get around 40mpg on the highway. It’s a little noisy bc the engine revs high but it feels happy doing so and doesn’t sip that much gas. It does not like the stop and go at all.
Oh yea it can
Someone said they paid 19K for a Mirage they reviewed. Much rather have this. They say the cvt gets better mpg though .
The last of the good cars. Now the market is filled with bloated useless trucks and suvs.
Nice review ❤ I am 5’ 9” 176 Lb’s and just not sure if this subcompact is big enough on the drivers side. It looks like it should have room but I have a larger sedan now and I’m now used to a larger space. Again, great job 👏 on your review.
@@scottreszek384 thanks! =) the best thing you can do is just test drive one and see how you feel. I drove a few hours straight on a trip and I was fine but my partner who is about the same weight and height as me wasn’t comfortable so it really depends on the person.
You are 100% correct and that is simply what I will need to do.
the model with the Jatco Crapomatic is the reason they aren't selling as many..if they would offer the manual in all trims they would sell like hotcakes
How many miles do you get on a full tank?
@@raidersamson3356 at 35.0 mpg (mostly city some highway) I just filled it and it says 400 miles to empty.
Next time, show those rain guards. Hard to tell, but looks like they add a touch of chrome? Otherwise, nice job...maybe skip the visually violating socks tho. LOL
Surprised you refinanced. Every time I bought new, the dealer had the lowest interest rate.
Car looks nice . I heard they're flying off the shelves
It's a crime that more manufacturers don't make ca4s like this.
Close to buying this car, except the speed and power out of the hole, is scaring me off.
But the back seats don’t fold 🤦
Indeed they do not. Yet the same exact trim but with a CVT transmission has that as an option. It makes no sense to me why it's not an option in the manual transmission.
Idiot engineers in stead of changing the flow nozzles on the injectors they doubled up on the injectors....go figure..LOL
the paint on these cars are pretty cheap, no real protection. collects rock chips, marks easily
