City of Glendale
Glendale is a city in the Verdugo Mountains region of Los Angeles County, California, and the fourth-largest city in Los Angeles County. It is located about 10 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Glendale has one of the largest communities of Armenian descent in the United States. As for climate, this Glendale has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild to warm winters with occasional rainfall.
MONA Glendale:
The museum was founded in 1981. Its location in downtown LA closed in 2011 and reopened in Glendale, California in 2016. The collection includes neon signs from the Brown Derby and Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The Museum of Neon Art (MONA) is an institution that exists to encourage learning and curiosity through the preservation, collection, and interpretation of neon art. The first museum devoted to art that incorporates neon lighting, it exclusively exhibits art in electric media, including kinetic art and outstanding examples of historic neon signs. In addition to exhibitions and tours, the museum offers introductory classes in glass bending held in the museum's state-of-the-art studio.
Beyond the Box:
The art on the various utility boxes around the city is actually part of a program supported by the City of Glendale called “Beyond The Box”. Now in its sixth year, this program’s aim is to beautify the city’s streetscape with colorful and interesting murals installed by selected artists on city-owned utility boxes. To date murals over 100 boxes have been completed by the program, which has been very well received by residents and visitors to Glendale.
The Americana at Brand:
Just next to the Glendale center theatre there’s probably the biggest shopping
The Americana at Brand is a large shopping, dining, entertainment and residential complex in Glendale, California. Comprised of 82 retail shops and various restaruants. This shopping area is organized upon the idea of a city center-with a mix of architectural styles, building heights and materials used, as well as vast open spaces at each project's center.
The architectural style of the Americana reflects the brick factory facades of the industrial era, with its massive elevator shaft with exposed steel beams, while The Grove is reminiscent of 1930s Los Angeles, California.
Americana Fountain:
In addition to The Americana at Brand's upscale shops, restaurants, a movie theater, and the outdoor mall, it features a fountain called Waters of Americana, designed by a water feature design firm call WET. The musical fountain, located in the central landscaped park, performs every hour on the hour, though a non-musical program runs between shows. A gold-leaf statue, rises from the center of the fountain's smaller pool. The statue is a replica of Donald De Lue's 1949 Spirit of American Youth sculpture in France, a memorial to Americans who fought at Normandy in World War II.
Glendale Galleria:
The Glendale Galleria is a large three-story regional shopping center and office complex which opened in 1976, with 1.6 million square feet of retail space, it is the fourth largest mall in Los Angeles County.
Alex Theatre:
The Alex Theatre originally opened in 1925 as the Alexander Theatre. The unique interior has distinct neo-classic Greek and Egyptian architectural elements. A long walkway and courtyard separating the ticket booth from the lobby was inspired after the famous Grauman's Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. The Alexander officially opened its doors on September 4, 1925. The theater's diverse schedule boasts roughly 250 events per year and attracts more than 100,000 patrons annually. Apart for live events The Alex Film Society regularly schedules classic films, often accompanied with special guests.
Porto’s Bakery:
Porto’s Bakery was born out of Rosa Porto’s love for sharing her wonderful cakes and pastries with friends and family. In 1976, Rosa opened her first official storefront, Porto’s Bakery on Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park, California. Porto's has gradually grown into five existing locations in Glendale, Burbank, Downey, Buena Park, and West Covina with a sixth location in Northridge on the way. In 2016 Porto’s took the number one spot on “Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the US.”
Glendale Centre Theatre
Art’s Bakery:
Art’s bakery really is a staple of Glendale and has an enormous amount of choice. Not only do they have good baked goods but they also offer a freshly baked flat bread called Shoti Puri which is extremely delicious. Recently they remodeled the whole store and now they offer a couple of tables right outside the bakery where you can sit and enjoy a coffee or tea along with your pastry.
I lived there for almost 5 years, loved the Armenian cuisine, safety and it's close to everything
You are right, Glendale is a safe area and close to many things.
Can't wait to check it out. Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome. I’m sure you’ll love Glendale.
I love the Central Library. It has a great architecture to chill, read a book or even study with its large tables with outlets for charging your laptop
I agree! It's an amazing place. Also since all the public libraries are linked, if they are missing a book you can always order it to come to your location.
Portos is amazing. Armenian cuisine is also plentiful in this city so many food choices. Great city around LA!
Yes, absolutely. Portos and Armenian cuisine are both delicious.
Thank you for highlighting Glendale. I was in town for work and used your video as a guide!
Wow, thank you for watching the video. I'm happy that I was able to help you a little bit on your work trip. It's always a pleasure to help out people.
I loved this video! super informative and genuine review! looks like we're checking out Glendale!
I’m glad you liked my video. I’m sure you’ll love Glendale and don’t forget to check-out Porto’s if you want some good food 😀
Great video David! 😊Thanks for sharing all the great places to visit in Glendale.
Thank you Ani. I'm glad you liked the video and as promised I added Arts bakery which truly has delicious pastries.
Are you armenian?
@@phil4863 No, I am not. I am from Belgium.
@@TheDavidNeytsShow oops I meant ani
That said, your content was good. Good variety and description of locations and reference to other recognizable sites.
Thanks for the advice! I will make a note of what you said, and I'll do my best to not to use the word "basically" so often. Thanks for watching. I'm always trying to improve my content.
it was very interesting! thank you so much!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I try my best to show as much as possible.
Great vídeo!!! Thumbs Up!!! I was just there In Glendale in 2004 I love Glendale!!!
Aahh, thanks for wathcing the video. Glendale is truly a great place and I feel blessed to live in that city.
What a lovely video my dear David! I enjoyed it so much! It reminds me that I need to see other horizons soon because with this Coco-shit, it's been difficult. But once again, thanks to your videos, you made me travel for my best pleasure 👍🏼
Always glad to bring you along on all my travels. You will see that boarders will open sooner than you expect and travelling will become popular again.
Fantastic!
Thank you!
wonderful video...i spent 17 days in LA & it really wasn't enough...i didnt see glendale, hollywood sign but i had such a great time there, for sure i want to go back & spend more time
Los Angeles has so many places to see, and that's just LA. California is enormous and has so many cities and beautiful nature to see. I've been here 22 years and I'm still discovering new things weekly.
@@TheDavidNeytsShow i studied in eugene, oregon is just magnificent (i totally agree about california, especially redwoods)
I absolutely love Glendale! It's incredible that such a clean, and relatively safe place is so close to los angeles and Hollywood! I live in Anaheim, right next to the Disneyland Hotel, but flour favorite restaurant is in Glendale! It's on Brand Blvd, and it's named Damon's! Right next door to Damon's is Portos Cuban bakery, and behind both tgs The Great White Hut, a little burger stand that's serves giant burgers! I've been wanting to visit the Neon Museum, and I'm glad to see the shoe repair sign that used to hang right behind the Great white hut up until recently, safe on the Museum!
Okay, I will check out Damon's. Thank you for the recommendation. I've passed in front of the burger hut you are speaking about many times and never realized that their burgers were so good. I'll have to give it a shot. I love the Museum of Neon art! Thank you for your wonderful comment.
Love the video 👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it ;-)
I grew up in Glendale,whent 2 that theather.nice thanks.
Nice to hear from other people who know the area. That theater is awesome!
Really great detail in this video, David! Thank you for putting in the time and effort to make it! I am looking into moving to LA from Denver for my job. Glendale and Silverlake are some of the neighborhoods I am looking at!
I'm glad I was able to give you an insight about Glendale. I did do a similar video about Silverlake and pretty soon I'm releasing a video about Los Feliz. I'd say that my favorite areas in LA are definitely #1 - Silverlake , #2 Pasadena #3 Atwater Village #4 Los Feliz #5 Glendale....If you are wondering about Atwater Village. It's a small area in between Silverlake and Glendale. It's a slightly cheaper to live in than Silverlake but just as close to all the cool and trendy places.
Pasadena is my #1 favorite area in the LA area! The architecture in Pasadena's downtown like Old Town and City Hall area are just beautiful. Pasadena also has the best museums rivaling even LA itself. Norton Simon, Pacific Asia Museum, Huntington Library. Caltech, JPL, Rose Bowl, etc are also world renowned institutions within Pasadena! Plus you have the Gold Line (L) that takes you to DTLA!
I lived on Victory Blvd in the mid to late 80s. Back in Scotland U.K now and still miss LA a lot
I used to live on Victory Blvd in North Hollywood. Glendale is a wonderful area and is so sheltered from much of the homeless population located in DTLA and Hollywood.
I used to love Glendale. I grew up in LA but love it!!
Yeah, it is an awesome part of town.
Hello, today is my first time watching one of your interesting videos! I am Mexican and lived right in the border of L.A. and Glendale by Costco, I am multicultural guy, i like to deal with all races and Glendale is the right place; also because of one of my languages, Russian language I enjoy to practice Russian with people there
Yes, there are a lot of Russian speakers around here. This area is very multicultural but also one of the safest places in Los Angeles. I've never had a problem here. Area is clean and there's always a ton of restaurants, places to visit. Love this area!
Thank you
You’re welcome!
thanks!!!
You're welcome!
Nice editing! Glendale is definitely one of my options to relocate.
Thank you for the compliment. Yes, you will love Glendale, plus it's really central to other places of LA without having the bad of being too central. It's definitely a calm area with a lot to do.
I live in Glendale now. I would suggest you stay out of Glendale and move up to La Crescenta or La Canada which are both 4 or 5 mi north of downtown Glendale.
Great video with great informations i would love to go and visit and i want to eat that chicken sandwich
You should! Porto's is such a good restaurant. I guarantee that you'll love their sandwiches.
Hi David, thanks for the tour. Can you tour some neighborhoods? Are there bugs? In general what are the cons?
What neighborhoods do you want me to tour? Glendale is very clean. The only real con in Glendale is that public transportation isn't great in this area, but if you are driving with a car it's a wonderful place.
Great city lots to do no bugs only con is aggressive driving and the population is a bit rude and entitled but you'll adapt
I’m going to visit this city one day
Cool, I really hope you do. It's a beautiful area of Los Angeles.
Nice rview. Ive livd here over 50 years. One of the lowest crime cities in the US over 200K. Also Armenian food central. Birthplace of actor John Wayne. Also interesting is the Brand Art Gallery and Library dedicated to art and music. Also soon the Armenian historical museum. Glendale has enjoyed low crime but has had some some interesting murderous characters. Back in the 80s the Hillside Stranglers Keneth Biancci and Angelo Buono operated from Bono's top shop in Glendale. Efrain Saldivar worked at Adventist hospital and was convicted of killing many patients. Called "The Angle of Death. And lastly John Orr was a city firefighter and serial arsonist finally caught and convicted of murder when someone died in one of his fires. Low crime in glendale except for the occasional serial killer, heheh. The author James M Cain (Double Indemnity, Mildred Pierce, and the Postman Always Rings Twice) lived in adjacent Burbank but set all of his novel in Glendale. Brand Library and The Train Station will be recognizable in many movies. Because of the convenient location, if you know glendale well, you will recognize many shooting location in tv shows, like the old Police Station. During Covid I wrote a murder mystery set in Glendale called "What You Wish For" If you like that kind of read. this isn't exactly a cash run, Amazon pays $3 a book or download so if a couple people get it, I might order Zankou Chicken tonight for dinner :)
Wow, you know a lot of stuff about Glendale and the various murderers around this area. Okay, I'll check out your book. Murder mysteries are always fun, and if it's set in Glendale I'll be able to better visualize all the areas.
@@TheDavidNeytsShow Thanks. Catch the 1953 movie Crime Wave, A lot of it Shot in Glendale. About bad guys coming to town to rob a bank You can spot the Alex, Masonic Temple. great fun. The bank is now a mens clothing store on Broadway and Brand. Also A lot of Criminal Minds TV show was shot around glendale, Kensington Apartments, the church across Brand etc, I think the headquarters was shot in the old police building on Wilson and Howard.
Great to see MONA's new home! Have you been to the Brand Library?
Definitely I've been to the Brand library. I love that place. With the Pandemic its been closed but I'm hoping that the building will open up back soon.
I believe that the water fountain you filmed was the location for the third season of Twin Peaks. It was supposedly Las Vegas but my roommate told me it was in Glendale
You are most probably right. When you live in LA you end up recognizing all the places
They do a lot of filming in Glendale.
Those potatoe meatballs and sandwich look very delicious
Porto's truly has delicious food, and it's really cheap. This is probably why there's always a line when one wants to eat there. It's worth it though.
@@TheDavidNeytsShow thanks, man. I’ll make sure to stop by so I could try those potato balls 😋
👍👍
3:04 look at the lady at first I thought she was scratching her butt but it’s her jacket haha
Good catch, I hadn't even noticed. I guess nowadays you have to be careful what you do in public. There's always someone filming! Although, yeah...she is just adjusting her jacket.
Theres a movie called Absentia that filmed in a tunnel in Glendale
Nice, I've never seen Absentia. I'm going to have to watch it just to see Glendale ;-)
I'm very proud of Porto's except for their taking out the "Cuban" from their title just to add non-cuban products for no understandable reason since those products already have their place in restaurants from other nationalities. This is one of the best Cuban places to eat in the U.S. Even Cuban restaurants in Miami would have tough competition from Porto's if they finally decided to expand to Florida.
What is crazy about Portos is the fact that they've kept their food quality so high and their prices so low. I really don't know how they can deliver this type of quality for so cheap.
My sister and Brother-in-law live in Glendale.
It's a nice place to live, shop and dine. But, there's not much to do there. It's a sleepy, quiet Town. Opposite of L.A.
One advantage of being in Glendale is that you are super central so getting to DTLA, Burbank, Pasadena, and many other places is usually a breeze. Not more than 15-20 minutes by car.
I miss Clancy’s
I just looked up what Clancy's was and it indeed looked like a really nice restaurant. Wish I knew about it while it existed.
I live here
Me too. I live right next to the Americana. It's a wonderful area.
Armenian people have build Glendale, it's very safe and beautiful small city, unlike other ghetto cities
Yes, indeed Glendale has been built beautiful and strong. I love living in this area.
💀💀💀😭
@@FelixLarios1234 that's right pal, east Los Angeles they have more scary scaletens for you.
Armenians Hispanics and a small percentage of Philipinos I'm moving after 21 years living here 🥲
@@user-rb4cf5dy4p yes go racist go, leave and take your guns with you.
I bet the house you are leaving in is trash an Armenian will buy it and remodel it nice.

bluerays? whats that?
Blu-ray is a digital optical disc data storage format. It was invented and developed in 2005 and released worldwide on June 20, 2006.
LAVEL XOSUMES
I'm not sure what that means, but thank you for the comment!
А там. Ного людей говорят по русски?
Да, в Глендейле многие говорят по-русски. :-)
Glendale is great. Love going there. The video WOULD be significantly better if we dropped the word “basically”, entirely. It wasn’t used correctly even once. Not trying to be an a-hole. Honestly bro… drop “basically” and the videos will sound more professional, smooth, educated and will increase both its “listen-ability” and credence given it by listeners
Ok...

Too boring
Your comment is boring…too bad!
