“You have to make your own quilt.” YES! I have never been able to follow someone else’s pattern all the way through. I have to make it my own.

Nancy Zieman has a book called Sew with Confidence. On pages 120-125, she has really good instructions and illustrations on how to make an envelope pillow. She has lots of good sewing videos, too, but I am not sure if she did a video on this. Sadly she has passed away, but I think her instructions are very easy to follow.

I've learned to love the practice block. I rationalize that by doing the practice one, I will know how to be much more efficient on the real / rest of them.

In all my years of quilting I’ve never done a practice block until I came to my current project. Which is a half dresden. It helped me fix several issues that would have been very time consuming to undo had I jumped right in like I normally do.

Watching much later but ❤️❤️❤️ this quilt in the autumn color way. Perfect backing/binding.

I checked out shirts yesterday our thrift store and they were all $9.29 a shirt. Some were more. In my case not economical to buy them. I can get yardage online for 7.99 a yard. Nice fabric too. I do find great buys in thrift store yardage though. I bought some great gingham yesterday about 6 yards, for 3.99. I also look for cotton sheets, there are almost new and great quality. I got to pay 8.99 for them which is way higher than it used to be, but still more economical than buying fabric for the back of my quilt. It’s just a great hunt and I love the hunt.

Just beautiful! I feel your individual choices improved the outcome. As a parttime quilter, your work is stunning. Simple but precise. (Im self taught and it took me 3 years to find the 1/4” setting for seam allowances- lolol. Actually, i was ready to give it all up because of that vital component) you are a joy to watch, and listen to and your laughter is contagious. Keep bringing your quilts to us!!

WOW, WOW,WOW! That quilt is STUNNING!!!! There is no way in H*** I would ever do a partial seam quilt. Sorry for the language. 😆 That is one type of quilting that is not in my future. I would get too frustrated and finally give up. I love a challenge but only to a point if it doesn't drive me crazy. You Miss Cathy are truly amazing at accomplishing everything you set out to do. Honestly I love your quilt WAY MORE than the designers quilt. The design shows up soooo much better on yours by using less colors. Sometimes less is more, which I apply a lot to many of my crafts. Great job! Great video! ❤️🥰

I much prefer simple also. It brings me peace. LOVE the quilt! Thus far, my favorite!

Thank you for the 2/3 pillow back idea! It makes so much sense. I agree that RUclips videos don’t give this general concept. I will be using your ratio this holiday season!

The quilt is beautiful. I just love your videos. I have been quilting a long time but I still always learn something or look at things a different way after watching one of your videos.

Thanks for the heads-up about the stretchiness of linen.

I love the tulip quilt on the wall! Imperfection also make a quilt special. It is so well made, matching the points is a nightmare for me. Beautiful quilt. I will take your tips and use them well

Your fall quilt is just beautiful! Isn’t it wonderful when you get the colors and fabric just right so that it all just flows. You can feel it and it makes your heart happy. I don’t make practice blocks because I don’t usually make anything too involved. My problem is that the first anything I make usually comes out better than the subsequent ones, for some backwards reason, which can be a little frustrating, because then, I don’t feel like I’m learning anything from the first one, I just end up having to try to make all the rest like the first one! I’m glad you’re happy with the way you decided to use the pattern for your quilt. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it for many more autumns to come! 🍁☺️

Your fall quilt is really pretty 🤗 I do appreciate your videos as you provide the ins-and-outs and ups-and-downs of issues to be mindful of when buying or choosing fabrics for creating beautiful works of art. Have a wonderful week. 🧵🪡✂️

It’s gorgeous! I wonder if you couldn’t cut those arrows as rectangles and just sew the bias? You understand? Then just trim off those triangles and no unnecessary stretching!

Ahhhh. Such a marvellous quilt! Thank you for sharing so much of the process. Two random thoughts … one - a possible issue w bias linen and flannel is that both have a loose weave structure as compared to its neighbours. The less structure the more extreme the bias effect. Two … we could rename “practice” with something more stem-y like proof of concept or test. This would make the work sound more … eh … experimental and ever so slightly more nefarious. 😇😇😇. At the end, you show the test piece and just like the colour video previously… one can see the diagonal go from dark red to cadmium to orange to yellow. That made me smile. Anyway …. Thank you as always for sharing. (Formulas and ratios make me happy too). 😍

Cathy, you are speaking directly to me! I never make practice blocks, I just want to dive right in. I don’t want to cut into fabric if I’m not going to make good use of it! I understand and appreciate the concept of practice blocks so maybe one of these days…
