    Finally! Someone who can play a fretless in tune. Good job on the intonation. Sound and feel are great too.

    What made Jaco's rendition so unbelievable, is how EASY he made it seem to play... Barely any of the original Donna Lee vids of Jaco have survived on YT sadly. There used to be quite a few vids of Jaco in 1976 playing Donna Lee with WR and the dude played it with such ease even at 220+bpm(double time).

    A brilliant exposition of the instrument!
    The first time I heard Jaco [early '77], I thought 'ah, here is the player we've been waiting for'. His unique sound, the odd and angular lines he used which were very awkward to play on a stringed instrument, His fluent and memorable soloing, his phenomenal technique, the complexity of his post be-bop harmony, the harmonics and his overall creative imagination just seemed [and was], streets ahead of everyone else in the field.
    In the early 70's I loved Stan Clarke, Jack Bruce, Colin Hodgkinson, Chris Squire and Glenn Cornick, and several others whose names I forget, but Jaco was unlike any of them.

    Beautiful work, I’d love to know how you achieved this level of musicianship, I’ve been wiggling my fingers off and on for nearly 30 years and I am probably 10% of your ability.

      Jaco in an interview mentioned how he practices “straight scales” everything else that he plays comes from within
      Also, Ron carter did a master class (somewhere, I forget the school) and he also mentions how all he practices is scales “everything else is a mystery”
      Not saying that this was this guys approach.. but who knows? This cat has got it down though 100%

    • @JonHop1
      @JonHop1 6 месяцев назад

      @@Oldscoolify in order to play Jaco's style, you have to play the music he played and practice the way he did. I know a TON of super talented bass players, that cant play Jaco stuff well at all, because they have just played completely different styles their whole life. Jaco's playing was all about feel and touch. Super hard to replicate even for people who study Jaco exclusively.

    The effort is there, but the end result is lacking. Just because someone plays the same notes as Jaco, doesn't mean they will sound like him.

    • @bp144
      @bp144 5 лет назад +13

      First spell his name right...It's Jaco not Jacko. Secondly, you sound like either an imbecilic, frustrated , or jealous wannabe bassist if you think that this guy sounds "nothing" like Jaco?!?! I am a Jaco aficionado and I have been listening to him since the 70's. I have seen him perform in concert with Weather Report, and I actually met and spoke with him and Wayne Shorter.. This guy DEFINITELY sounds a lot like Jaco! Not a carbon copy, but a good facsimile... Stop hating on other people's talent, and try to learn how to appreciate all the hard work and dedication that this bassist had to put in to even COME CLOSE to Jaco's level of proficiency...

      @@bp144 I was touched by everyone's comments.
      And it was very encouraging.
      I have a strong admiration for JACO.
      He was one of the great inventors, and modern bassists can't avoid his benefits.

      orihararyoji +1 on your authentic Jaco tone, he’s been in my heart for around 25 years, you’re nailing it man, and you’ve inspired me to work harder on my chops so thank you

      @fabriziovincitorio9377 4 года назад

      @@orihararyoji you're a great master on fretless, especially because you aren't a jaco clone but a serious student of his style. As all the greatest musician, you learnt jaco's style, but in your phrasing there are bop lines thet show your knowledge of the tradition and the repertoire. I have listen to your meeting with Dario Deidda on you tube, another one that has an infinite vocabulary, from traditional doublebass players like paul chambers, to jaco and others. Some people can't understand this difference, from "perfectly copy" to "learn and rework". Thanks for your music, It's so difficult to find a fretless player at your level involved in real jazz music. greetings from Italy
