I ordered the Asymmetric 5’s a few days ago. Most of the driving I do is on the road, wet, dry and all year. The track driving I do is in the winter, due to track days being far cheaper. I reckon that the Asymmetric 5’s are the most likely to work well on a cold, potentially wet, UK track as well as being good for the dry. Cost for 205/45/17 was £85 each delivered + fitting.
Hi! I have a very big struggle in chosing the new tyre. I got "pretty heavy" passat B7 alltrack on stage 3 (370bhp) with 345mm brakes, so some times i make pretty intensive drive, so i need good traction tyre for both dry and wet street conditions, but also i traveling a lot with my childs and low speeds with them, so need comfort and low noise from tyres also. I knew its a compromise, but cant choose good tyre for that. Now i on ContiPremium6 and i hate that tyre. Traction good, but noise from that thing is destroying me. What can you say?
I have a question which I can't find the answer to anywhere I'm hoping someone here can help. I'm looking at the Assymetric5 in my size 245/40/18 but there are 2 variations a 93Y and a 97Y. The 97Y on the label is rated better for fuel economy than the 93Y despite being the exact same tyre. Does that mean the 97 will have less grip than the 93 because it has lower rolling resistance.
Hey Jon. As usual I appreciate your reviews. It has helped and does help me do sensible choices for my high performance vehicle. I just submitted a midlife tyre review for the exceptional Michelin Pilot sport 4S and I tell you these tyres have set the bar way up. So my question is directly this: Would the Goodyear super sport be a comparable to the Pilot sport 4S on my 600+ bhp supercharged Ford Mustang GT (yes I upgraded from the ecoboost). On another note I appreciate your diversification as I needed suspension advice for better track performance and comfort for my mustang (ended up installing performance coil overs from Roush).
Kurt Phillips well they are quite expensive for a reason. The ride quality in conjunction with Pilot sport 4S is phenomenal. Also you have less body roll when cornering.
Would you recommend Asymmetric 5 on the car like Sti or new GR Yaris 4wd performance car? Or they're too soft and not giving that confidence in high speed or cornering? Thanks heaps and thanks for always a great review - top notch!
@@tyrereviews I appreciate your response. SuperSport is my target then. Also if I may suggest, for many performance enthusiasts it could be great to see some of the popular semi slicks for street use including dry, wet and handling performance. No one does it better than you!
Agreeing with the below on the semislick comparision I am going to the Nurburgring in my Megane 275 this year and wanting to know what to use. Also how do these 3 compare with wear compared to the Michelin PS4, PS4S and CUP 2? thanks
For 25 years of driving I never felt and major differences between my tires, probably because I drive sensibly most is the time, but I purchased all season tires for the first time and the amount of squirm is simply incredible, never felt anything similar. The car feels so unsafe subjectively while objectively the tires grip very good. Now I am scared that my new summer tires will squirm the same way and that would be really depressing. Do Asymmetric 5 squirm on their soft sidewalls? Are PremiumContact 6 better in this regard?
I ordered the Asymmetric 5 this week. I only drive a small Peugeot 208 with 155 HP but I'm still curious how good the Goodyear will drive. At the moment are still the 7 year old Bridgestone Potenza RE050 assembled. Great Video. Many Greets from Germany
I have a Giulia Quadrifoglio, but sadly 90% of my driving is with the family onboard where confort is probably more important than performance and feel. In this scenario, would you put on the Asymmetric 5 or the Supersport for when you get to enjoy the 10%?
Love your videos you probably have the most comprehensive tire reviews I've seen! Would be really cool if you could do a review on the Goodyear Supercar 3 tires, not really a proper review out there on them. Maybe compare them to something like PS4S or Cup 2 or similar. Im looking to get new tires for my ZL1 if any one has any suggestions! I just don't know if i should stick with stock or not.
@@tyrereviews I think speculation was that Tesla used the Michelin Cup 2 R at least at Nürburgring according to Car and Driver, no confirmation on Laguna Seca. The Supercar 3 tires were made specially for the 2017+ Camaro ZL1 (R variant on ZL1 1LE), and they feel like they have amazing dry grip but hydroplane so easy that it is terrifying here in Florida. Consensus so far is I give up dry grip going to PS4S or the like, but get more wet and less wear. Either way I am always open to suggestions! Been looking at Conti SC 6 a lot lately as well based off your website for R20 rims...
@@tyrereviews Holy crap, that article was definitely wrong, and you are definitely right! I just searched for some images and those are indeed the Supercar 3R tires, track version of mine. I'm starting to think I should just granny it in the rain and stick with the Supercar 3 tires.
Are tyres (tires!) with the same 'name ' (eg. These Goodyear Supersport, Michelin Ps4, Pirelli P-Zero etc.) exactly the same for the North American market (where they seem to focus on wear ratings and long life) versus the European market (where we quote wet grip and dB ratings and focus on grip) ?
Love your reviews and you know how to pedal a car ! What tyre pressure do you recommend for 225-45-18 super sport I’m running my mk7 golf 33 front 32 rear .. the PS4 I was running at 36-34 I drive a lot harder than your average driver both on track and rd . I will do my review for you once I have wet driven the SS. I will say on a MK7 GTD if anyone is reading this ditch your dampers springs and arbs bushes and fit the PP stuff. My car was transformed and on the SS tyres it’s literally a diesel hatch on rails modified it’s a match for any GTI and not far off an oem R or S3 to 100 mph and still 60mpg on a run Get the SS tyres on people they are very very good !
Great test. As a suggestion which I realise wouldn't be easy, would it be possible to get a comparison for how the vast majority use tyres. To do so a test on part worn (maybe ~5mm tread left) and on cold tyres would be ideal. Most of us for the majority of time don't drive on new, hot tyres so knowing how they perform in real life would be ideal. Also as another level would be to make sure the road temperature is between 10-20C.
@@tyrereviews thanks for the response, I suppose it's a fair amount of work to wear tyres to order. Any chance next time to try the cold tyres test, hopefully it won't be too much extra work and it'd be interesting to see the difference.

I am seeing so much contradicting information about tyres it is infuriating. I have an AWD Mini Countryman JCW with 310bhp and OEM Pzero's (225/45/r19 96Y). They are garbage and need to be replaced. Do I replace them with Michelin PS4S or Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5's? Your website suggests the F1's are the highest rated. Assuming price is the same, which tyres do i get for best dry and wet performance? The Pzero slip and slide on any kind of wet surface even with AWD
(copy, same Q in other comment). I've had both in direct succession, and the MPSS wasn't worn. The MPSS is still the best tyre for outright feel imho but the GYSS is better in everything else, and wet grip is lightyears better.
I could really use a Fulda SC2 comparison. To other similar tyres, but with a Michelin PS4 thrown in for reference. Fulda is very tempting- I like "spirited" driving, but I have so many motorway miles for work that comfort and especially noise are quite important. Had a set of Fuldas on my first car, and I recall good grip, low noise and relatively good handling for the price and type of tyre. (Back in 2001 on a '92 Legacy)
Any experience with the same model/size tire but made in another country? Do you think it makes any difference? Some people talk trash about for example Goodyear summer tires or Nokian winter tires, that they are worse if made in Russia than in Slovenia, Poland or Finland or ... what do you think?
I liked the video, but what time per lap has each model got ??? I am thinking of acquiring one of them, I will most certainly opt for the F1 supersport
I need your opinion please! I’m currently daily driving a sporty hatchback 18 inch, which would you choose between eagle f1 asymmetric 6 and eagle f1 supersport? All four Tyres are due an upgrade from Asymetric 3 at the rear and MPSS up front on my 2016 M135i . Looking for increased grip in the wet and overall better traction off the line, living in England as you know it rains forever. 50/50 split between commuter miles and spirited drives. The Asymmetric 5 seems to be a great in the wet. However the Supersport seems to be the overall better performer. Stuck!
Tricky. The SuperSport might be marginally better in the wet, but the Asym 5 might be a slightly better tyre for those commuter miles. As it's me, I'd always go for more UHP bias on an M135i, so go for the SuperSport. IT'll also feel more MPSS like on the front axle.

You have wider tyres with r17 than r18?
@@Camarao_Pistola I don't understand the question? If I can run 17, I should. 18s are all for looks and 205/40 is the best option, 215 would be too tall.
@@penttijakonen3817 you said 215 r17, and 205 r18. Wider tyre on smaller wheel
@@Camarao_Pistola Yes. I don't understand why that caught your attention. Wheel diameter has nothing to do with tire width.
@@penttijakonen3817 ok then 😂
Good Year because of the better steering, driving and braking under wet conditions
Got these off of your recommendation. Can't wait to pair 'em up with BBS CH 025 Motorsport :)
Great test thank you so much.
Love the videos but for future ones can you put text onscreen for the tire your reviewing during the review
Very good comparison
Please do more tire review on this car! Lots of hot hatches use 235/35 19 today. Good job 👍👍👍
Working on it :)
GYSS are still good in the cold, bit don't come as 17" afaik (yet?)
Asym 5 are surprisingly great on track too
Maybe Asym 5
I have a question which I can't find the answer to anywhere I'm hoping someone here can help. I'm looking at the Assymetric5 in my size 245/40/18 but there are 2 variations a 93Y and a 97Y. The 97Y on the label is rated better for fuel economy than the 93Y despite being the exact same tyre. Does that mean the 97 will have less grip than the 93 because it has lower rolling resistance.
I don't think grip will be affected by the load rating
would you select a different tyre based on rwd, fwd, awd? or depending on suspension, weightdistribution and other factors?
Unlikely, there would be some slight differences but what works for one drive train will also work with others
I think they're worth trying if you can get the sizes :)
How are you finding the coilovers?
Kurt Phillips well they are quite expensive for a reason. The ride quality in conjunction with Pilot sport 4S is phenomenal. Also you have less body roll when cornering.
Would you recommend Asymmetric 5 on the car like Sti or new GR Yaris 4wd performance car? Or they're too soft and not giving that confidence in high speed or cornering? Thanks heaps and thanks for always a great review - top notch!
I'd prefer the F1 SuperSport if you wanted a goodyear for those sorts of tyres
@@tyrereviews I appreciate your response. SuperSport is my target then. Also if I may suggest, for many performance enthusiasts it could be great to see some of the popular semi slicks for street use including dry, wet and handling performance. No one does it better than you!
Sweet review thanks
Agreeing with the below on the semislick comparision I am going to the Nurburgring in my Megane 275 this year and wanting to know what to use. Also how do these 3 compare with wear compared to the Michelin PS4, PS4S and CUP 2? thanks
Great video, lot of information to process... 👍
Only one question...
How come the dry times are in the 90+ seconds and the wet ones in the 70+??? 🤔🤔🤔
Different circuits :)
Well they are ordered F1 Supersport R , what tyre pressure hot do i run on Track ? Hyundai i30N
Id love to see you review clubsport type of uhp and Trackday tires along the lines of the AD08R and Federal 595RSR, with sizes 17" and below
That's the plan for the m3 eventually!
What are your thoughts on the Focus RS?
Great car, really pointy and good fun. I had the tuned version as a press car for a week, even better
@@tyrereviews Cool. Looking to have mine tuned in the near future.
How does the Super sport compare to the Pilot Sport 4S? I guess that's it's direct competitor?
Great review as always!
SEe previous video!
It'll be great
Nice review, if you have to choose between the super sport and the pilot sport 4, which one you will buy for the Mk7 gti?
Thank you for the answer 😊
F1 super sport
I have a Giulia Quadrifoglio, but sadly 90% of my driving is with the family onboard where confort is probably more important than performance and feel. In this scenario, would you put on the Asymmetric 5 or the Supersport for when you get to enjoy the 10%?
I'd still go SuperSport, great car!
We sadly don't get that tyre in the UK,but I'll try and do something with the US. Isn't the Supercar 3 the tyre Tesla just did the EV lap record on?
@@Recon13x Definitely the Goodyears for the ring lap, you can just about see the sidewall and the tread pattern matches perfectly :)
Michelin is yes, the Goodyear doesn't exist yet, and I'm not sure on the Pirelli, as there's lots of P Zeros in existence even in Europe!
My car was transformed and on the SS tyres it’s literally a diesel hatch on rails modified it’s a match for any GTI and not far off an oem R or S3 to 100 mph and still 60mpg on a run
Get the SS tyres on people they are very very good !
I'd start at stock then play with them. Usually I like a few PSI up on the road for better steering feel
I would love to but sadly getting worn tyres is very expensive
@@tyrereviews thanks for the response, I suppose it's a fair amount of work to wear tyres to order. Any chance next time to try the cold tyres test, hopefully it won't be too much extra work and it'd be interesting to see the difference.
Really looking forward to the M3 content! Might look at the Supersport on the front on my E90 M3. Have Falken 510 on the back and I know you are doing a vid on mixing tyres. Any advice?
The Falkens are quite soft so your M3 could feel quite oversteery at the rear
@@tyrereviews that what I thought. Might go for the 4s or asymmetric 5 then. Looking for steering feel on the front over the Falkens all round.
It will be night and day compared with the Accelera on the rear and Conti sport contact 6 on the front! Fear and danger and a winter drive was very interesting.
Great video mate! I would love to have the F1 Supersports but I need to have in 17" similar to the PS4S they don't come in these sizes. I am looking for a sports tire for my MX-5 and now I am stuck on what to go for.. My ambition is to hit the track a couple of times this year. I have been looking at the Cup 2s however living in Sweden I am not sure if that is a wise choice conisdering that we have rain every now and then... What would you go for if not having two sets of tires
Asym 5, but the cup2 and another set of wheels would be more fun
@@tyrereviews I did go for the CUP 2s, 215/45R17 hope it works out well. Will be installing track oriented coilovers as, hopefully it will be a good match
@@Themazcorner That'll be a lot of run :)
*fun
@@tyrereviews yeah can't wait to have everything on and go driving but today it started snowing haha
PS4S is a little more sporty, the Goodyear rival would be the F1 SuperSport. Check out the mega tyre test video with the M2
Which did you go with?!!
Please compare the GoodYear Super Sport with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport :)
Great channel 👍🏻
Sadly as the PSS is now replaced by the 4S, this isn't a test that's easy to make happen. The F1SS was tested against the 4S in my last video
(copy, same Q in other comment). I've had both in direct succession, and the MPSS wasn't worn. The MPSS is still the best tyre for outright feel imho but the GYSS is better in everything else, and wet grip is lightyears better.
@@tyrereviews We still get plenty of Michelin Pilot Super Sport here in Australia.
Could you make a review for premium touring tires? Most of drivers are using this type of tyre instead of the performance tyre
Working on it :)
Thank you! Keeping up the great work... you are the only genuine tyre reviewer on RUclips.
Out of the PS4 and the F1 eagle super sport which do you think is a better choice for a FWD hot hatch?
SuperSport
Tyre Reviews cheers 👍🏼
Thanks for the review.Sad that supersport rs is only on gt2rs sizes
Hopefully more in the future!
How do the supersports compare with the ps4. Have been through asy 3 and 5, ps4s at the moment.
Find out next month!
Any experience with the same model/size tire but made in another country? Do you think it makes any difference? Some people talk trash about for example Goodyear summer tires or Nokian winter tires, that they are worse if made in Russia than in Slovenia, Poland or Finland or ... what do you think?
It's rare you get the same sizes made in different factories, however in theory if you did the tyres should be the same
I liked the video, but what time per lap has each model got ???
I am thinking of acquiring one of them, I will most certainly opt for the F1 supersport
I'm sure the times are in the video?
I need your opinion please!
I’m currently daily driving a sporty hatchback 18 inch, which would you choose between eagle f1 asymmetric 6 and eagle f1 supersport?
No track, summer daily driving on dry/wet, looking for high handling but without bad performance on wet
I’m really undecided!
Thank you, very good channel✌️
Great review , I am looking at getting the F1 SuperSport for my Hyundai i30N , what tyre pressures do you recommend on Track ? Currently I run Nankang AR1's at 33 psi hot. Thanks again.
Would it be possible to retest these tires later this year when temperatures fall into the 0°C/ 32° F?
If you'd like to fund the test, sure ;)
Fit winter tyres for that weather!
Had the GYSS in 2 degrees C in the wet, and grip was still excellent!
Which one isn't wobbly in highspeed or which wobbles the least between, Goodyear asy 5, Conti premium contact 6 and michelin pilot sport 4?
What do you mean by high speed wobble?
@@tyrereviews Please fastforward to "dry handling" at 3:20 you said, "if anything at highspeed, the sidewall becomes flexible, loses stability and get wobbly" those are your words. You forgot you used these words?
@@kay19833 HAve a watch of the Asym 5 vs Asym 3 vs PC6 review, should answer your questions :)
@@tire_reviews I have watched it, it didn't answer my question. If you know the answer, why are you making me have to ask you to say it?
So the R is only marginally (0.5 sec over 90 secs) faster than regular super sport in the dry, but miles behind in the wet ? Is there any real benefit for the R then?
Interested in a comparison with the track day tyres from Nankang. I hear that the AR1 is supposed to be a significant step on from the NS2R

@@tyrereviews brilliant thanks! Channel is great at the moment. Just the right mix of information without being too technical 👍
Great content - Any thoughts about doing an in depth review of how a layperson can evaluate tyre tread with best tips to maintain tyre longevity. Would be a cheap but very helpful review for people wanting to learn more about keeping a close eye on their tyres, not to mention prompting earlier changes of bald ones improving community safety too! Majority of content in this area is vague, poorly presented and not systematic. Just an idea 🙂
I love the idea and it's on the list :)
I swear Goodyear better bring the Supersport stateside.
Email them!
