I have had a Leica Q2 for over 2 years and I agree that it is an exceptional camera. Through a stroke of good luck, I recently acquired a Fujifilm X100V which, as you know, is also an exceptional camera. In my experience, I have found they tell different stories in different, compelling ways. My conclusion is that, if it is at all possible, the best solution is to own both and to choose to carry one or the other depending on circumstances. Sometimes I find that photos from the Q2 are just too good (possibly too digital?) and photos of the same subject from the X100V are more captivating (possibly more analog realism?). Good luck on your journey and many thanks for your excellent RUclips channel.

The comments you’ve made about phone photography were so easy to relate to. I’m always in a constant battle with friends/family telling me how phones have surpassed cameras but I’ve never been able to explain it the same way you did.

I think the phone has to much stuff going on it, that we easily get distracted from doing photos with it. Lately im trying to simplify my gear, 1 camera, 1 lens and enjoy the creative process. Phones are a blessing and a curse in this regard, they give us access to information on the spot but they create so much background noise as well, that they completely trow us off from our "nothing box" which i need to start creating.

I also took the plunge recently and purchased the Q2 (reporter). Forget the price tag this is a fantastic tool and loving it every time I take it out.
Files out of camera better than my X100V but wouldn’t give it up. Both these cameras go really well together with my X-T5.
Cameras are expensive at any cost, enjoy them for what they are.

I’ve had my Q2 for just over a year now and have to say it is a fab camera for street and documentary. Also great for family get togethers and fun off the cuff snaps. It does struggle a little in low light conditions when ISO starts to creep up into the thousands. But the main thing i love about this camera is the joy of using it. As you say, some cameras and especially phones can be very clinical. Once I have downloaded my images and charged the battery I tend to leave my Q2 on my desk ready to grab as I head out the door each day. Don’t get me wrong, I have a Nikon Z series with a shed load of lenses that I would not be without. But for shear fun and the feel of taking real images the Q2 is hard to beat.

I have the original Q and the Fuji x100v - they’re more different than people think. It’s well worth having both. As much as the Q is the better for image quality, it’s much heavier and the shadows render much more deeply, so it’s not great for environments with high sunlight and high contrast may not be what you want. Great for cloudy days and particularly when the sun is low in the sky.
The Fuji is more versatile and the colours are more malleable with the camera simulations.

Enjoy that beauty, my Reporter arrived from MPB (also like new) a few weeks ago, it's a winner ;) . Consider the Leica thumbgrip, I had a lensmate thumbgrip on my 100V and loved it, and the Q2 feels so much better in the hand with one fitted too. If you do any landscape or slow shutter work on a tripod I can highly recommend the JJC hand grip for the Q2, integral Arca Swiss grooves and you can get at the battery and SD card without removing the grip, unlike the OE Leica grip. I'll look forward to seeing and hearing how you get on with it........

I’m truly sorry that one or two people were upset by my admittedly forthright criticism of your acquisition of the Leica Q2. I reiterate that I’m a great admirer of your talent and I enjoy all of your RUclips postings. However, like most others, you do come over as an “influencer”, expressing your own beliefs/advice on how things should be done, and that is what also makes your vlogs interesting. Like you, your followers are all completely entitled to their own opinions, myself included. In this instance, as someone who has owned, and thoroughly tested the Q2, I found it to be a camera that really had nothing to offer me that I couldn’t achieve with my Fuji X100V which cost about 1/4 the price. Yes, with a lot of time consuming effort, both at the point of shooting, as well as post editing, the full frame sensor, and Leica lens will sometimes win over those who have a need for perhaps serious cropping, or very large prints.
I feel so strongly about my perceived shortcomings of the Q2 that I felt compelled to voice my opinion. In so doing, I was reminded of the numerous, excellent postings you have done featuring the X100V, and I was therefore saddened to read your comment that you were definitely “dumping it”. That is the only reason that I suggested that you should keep to taking photos, which is what you do so well. Nevertheless, on this occasion I will forgive you when the time comes when you eventually give us your opinion of the Q2 after some serious use.

@@cinqo7 As a camera I feel the R5 totally and clearly wins it for me but it’s bigger. The GR3 is amazing for it’s size. It’s very small and covert. The X100V looks fabulous and makes me feel like some old school photography buff with its dials and look. Um… the Q2…… it’s nice to tick the box of owning a Leica. People look at it. It has some frustrations and seems very basic compared to the other three but the sensor is bigger and higher resolution than the x100v and gr3. If I only had one camera it would be the R5 without any doubt. All 4 cameras target different markets. Wrist strap and a body guard might be in order 🙄 I don't know if I could live with 28mm, as many a scene is from across the street and you cannot always reposition yourself. I really should use my 14mm on the Lumix GX-9 and do more work with it. You just have to be so careful of distortions. The 14mm on a PEN-PL8 is fun as well. Garry was a character indeed! You’re lovely Q2 from MPB might well be the one that they bought off me, and I’m sorry to say I took a massive hit when I sold it after less than 2 months, and in “as new condition”, so I can’t agree with your comment on Leicas retaining value. Only yesterday I read your vlog about what you hate about the Fuji X100V, and your first complaint was that you found it uncomfortable to carry. Frankly, the Q2 is far worse, with no grip whatsoever, and very slippery. Thumb grips etc. cost a ridiculous amount, so bear that in mind, as do spare batteries, which you will need. You also questioned the cost of the X100, but you appear happy to now part with a vast amount more for a camera which still has a lot of limitations .Above all, I found the camera slow and complicated to use in the constantly changing environment of street photography, with far too many visits to the menu for basic changes. Yes, the images can be superb, but often after the necessity of time spent in post editing very large files. Is that what you want as a genuine, creative photographer? I am a great admirer of your lovely street photography postings, and as a photographer with 60 years behind me, some of which were professional, I’m a bit disappointed when you transgress into opinionated vlogs, particularly about equipment. You are a very talented photographer and presenter, so why not stick to what you do best? Oh, I also recollect that you said you were ditching your X100V, but now say that you won’t. Comments like that won’t give you credibility, and RUclips is full of waffle like that. Sorry to be so critical, but someone like you could really be a great influencer, but please stick to what you do best, and good luck with the Q2. I look forward to hearing how long you keep it.

If u want to be like Winogrand (by the way, I met him at Rice Univ), then go get a real 35mm film Leica & shoot your heart's content away. Now that u have the Q2, you must rush out and get the latest batch of wires, batteries & glass known as the Q3. @@MikeChudley Thanks for writing Mike! Come on, have a sense of humor. Maybe living over in the UK, all the cloudy days, rainy days make if difficult. You do know that upon Gary Winogrand's demise, thousands of undeveloped 35mm rolls of exposed film were found in his fridge. When I met Gary at Rice Univ in Houston, he gave a special lecture there. Featured his cowboy & rodeo documentation work. As a person, he came across as being down to earth & very unimpressed with himself. U could tell he loved snapping pics; super enthused when he spoke about the actual work that he showed. You would have enjoyed the lecture. Keep snapping, but if u want to be in the tradition of Gary Winogrand, get a real film 35mm Leica and go to town. 😎😎

@@gbwalther3198 I’m sure listening to Gary was great. I don’t doubt that. But do you really believe you can’t take great images on something that isn’t a “real Leica”?
I would love to see your work Walther.

Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic are handling warm and realistic images...Canon,Sony are professional and business image orientated ...I don't like too reach,sharp...images...not realistic ...and Hasselblad unique ...a hybrid of business & art ...(using a Sony sensor ...🤔)

I'm here to give you some honest feedback, like your father would do. Paying £3,700 for a second-hand point-and-shoot camera is nothing but utter foolishness. Do you believe that you take better pictures with it? Okay, my friend, now you have a hypothesis. Let's prove it. Show 20 photos with identical focal lengths taken with identical settings and framing at identical locations, and let photographers decide whether each of them was taken on your Leica, your Fuji, or your Canon. Don't forget to tell us about the result. Or you say that you purchased it for the experience rather than the photo quality? Congratulate yourself for falling for Leica's marketing incentives. MPB pays you £2,400 for your used Leica Q2. Well done for losing £1,300 on a single transaction.
