    You’re just like me. 2 acres in San Diego county California. 18 inch bar, a tree falls once in a while. Had a huscavana. Used it sparingly. It died after 10 years. Love my wood boss ms251

The diagram wasn't clear at first though after seeing this video I know see the diagram was looking from a different angle than I was. Thanks again!

      How big a tree is reasonable to fell and cut up to firewood with this saw? I just bought one but am worried I maybe should have gone bigger as I see cutting firewood more often as my primary heating fuel source.

    • @ureasmith3049
      @ureasmith3049 Год назад

      @@lesliechow7286 I've felled and limbed 12 very large Eastern White pines with this on my property. I would go bigger though if I were in your shoes. 2 reasons. One because pine is much easier to cut, and also because and larger saw is much easier on the back. You don't have to bend over as much when limbing for long periods of time.

      @@ureasmith3049 I have the 251 with an 18” bar. I’m 6’ tall and the other 18” is good. I see this saw model a few years ago came with a 16”. I may be moving back to rural pa where I’m from and cut firewood to heat which would be hardwoods: maple, oak, cherry, beech. My brother and father have always down this. I think they both have 3 chainsaws or so though also. I was just wondering if I should have went up a little bigger for future use. For what I just used this 251 for it was perfect. I guess it’s not even broke in yet so it will get maybe 25% more horsepower. I’m running nothing but 91 octane with Stihl synthetic engine oil. My brother told me this years ago to run in all 2 stroke engines. He’s a diesel mechanic and also has been cutting firewood for 20 years

      @Leslie Chow I'm sure this will do the job. But i'm 5 '9" And getting up there in age. I love this saw And it fulfills my needs. But if I use it for firewood I would go longer and larger.

    My stihl dealer was nice and told me quite a bit but not nearly as much as your guy. I had no idea about the summer winter thing. I better go read that manual. First chainsaw I ever owned. Might be overkill for me but still came out much cheaper than hiring someone to do the work that needed to be done.

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  День назад

      @@Janisg616 You have a very good question with an answer that varies from 0 to 1000. The reason is because of the piston rings. They can stick open or closed, wear down, or they can destroy the cylinder by scratching regardless of oil changes.
      There is no answer and more than likely you will need to rebuild or replace the carburetor once or twice before the end of service really appears.
      I store mine without fuel in the tank and I overhaul the carburetor when four or more pulls are needed for a start.
      I hope all goes well with your saw.

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  5 лет назад +2

      I have not ever bought used ones even when I used the cheap Polands. The problem is misuse or just use in general. There is no known history on the use or misuse of equipment, fuel, or oil. Good Luck on your search and at least start the machine up and let it run for a while. Cut something if you can.

    Stihl just gave me a huge purchase credit to replace my old MS250 with the new MS 251 on a 10 year old saw! How' s that for customer service! My master control lever wore out and would not switch to OFF to kill engine. (Plastic spindle shaft inside a plastic yoke assembly) . I had Stihl dealer replace the horizontal spindle but no help. Because of the obvious safety hazard Stihl customer service was prepared to pay parts and labor to rebuild my 10 year old MS 250 or grant me more than 1/2 purchase price credit to purchase a new MS 251. I went with the new MS 251. Be careful about where the master control level is positioned when you remove or replace the orange top cover-- all the way down-- full choke- is best. I loved the MS 250 and hope the MS 251 is as good.

    I agree, I prefer Stihl over Husqvarna, even though I have both, but 80% of my saws are Stihl, because I feel Stihl saws are better designed and built. I have had my 251 since 2016 and the only problem I have had with it was I had to replace the bar oil flippy cap after I loaned it to my oldest daughter for a while. I use premium non-ethanol gas in all my small engines. It costs me about a dollar more per gallon. I break in all new saws with Stihl Moto Mix for the first three tanks with a little extra oil for the first few tanks. I mix 80 ml of Stihl Ultra oil, one ounce of Sta-Bil and one gallon of PNE gas. I basically agree with your dealers break in procedure

      I've had the Sthil 251 Wood Boss for a few months now. I swear more oil came out of it when it was new. All ports/passages are clean and so is the bar. It just doesn't seem to oil as much. I think I'd rather have a little too much than not enough. Time will tell. Besides, oil is just as natural as tar/asphalt pits that nature creates. The earth makes it. Man just refines it. Whether humans use it or not, it will still be here.
