  • This is how I checked the valve lash on a 13hp predator engine. This is the 60349 model which happens to be the "Hemi" version.
    After looking online about how to check the valve clearance, I took off the valve cover and saw something completely different than what I was seeing on other videos so I thought I would make this one for those who have the Hemi version of the 13 hp Predator Engine by Harbor Freight.
    Feeler Gauges - amzn.to/2ZVGESy
    Make sure to get the proper feeler gauge like the one above due to such a small clearance on these engines.
    You need to be able to fit a .004 gauge, be able to fit a .005 gauge with it being tight, and then NOT be able to fit a .006 gauge. Again, 4 & 5 should fit, 6 should NOT. Make sure to check your owner's manual for the engine you have.
    Other than that, if you need step by step instructions, this is a good video for that - • Small engine valve adj...

    Just remember if you have to adjust the set screw, hold it in place while you jam the nut tight. Otherwise it will move and the lash still won't be correct. Nice vid! Keep safe during those storms.

      Very true. I should have covered that a little better, but yes. Thank you for adding that 👍

    Love the channel man, can’t wait till you can get into the big heavy American surface drives and long tails (prebuilt). If you ever run Around tallahasee I’ll let you run my copperhead!

      Thanks a lot Will! I appreciate it. I'm looking forward to being able to test out some of those surface drives. I just need to be able to get a boat that will handle them. This 1436 is having a rough time with these longtails. Would you recommend a copperhead? I mostly hear good things about them

      JTgatoring I would recommend them for smaller boats that can’t handle the weight of a big FNR (FOrwardnuetralreverse) surface drive. Something like a 1436 might perform well with a 10hp copperhead, my buddy has the same boat as you and I want to put it on his boat and see how it goes. I would recommend one, they’re just almost impossible to work on yourself.

      Alright. I was definitely wanting to try the copperhead and mud walker surface drive engines for a light load type boat. Those two names came up a lot for light weight speed, but once you get into the big heavy boats where FNR would be needed, I was liking the looks of a prodrive, and then of course comparing the other big names like mud buddy, gator tail, and go-devil. I'd like to open them up and see what they look like on the inside.

      JTgatoring copperhead is Definetly fried and true, but they still have some kinks, I hear they’re possibly coming out with a FNR in a smaller motor like a 14 or so. Mud walker I’ve heard has some kinks but a buddy of mine loves his, I don’t know too much about them other than that they own Dixie drives I believe. And yeah I’ve been waiting on the big name brands like godevil and mud buddy to come out with a small lightweight surface drive, they have longtails already, just no surface drives

    Hay Ik you really like the swamp runners i’m I am interested in getting one but I don’t want to get another motor that get millions of weeds caught on the prop and skig how do the swamp runners run in the marsh cuse i’m not trying to pick the prop out of the water every 10 seconds

    • @JTgatoring
      @JTgatoring  4 года назад

      I like the way my swamp runner performs. I use a PVC weedless spacer on my shaft and it greatly decreases the number of weeds that catch on the shaft. Swamp Runner also has that new weedless skeg now too which should help. The backwater kit would be another good option. The backwater would probably be best if you don't plan on being on plane much and you're going to be in tight places the majority of your time. The swamp runner is great for speed and open areas. The sps performs good in timber, but if you spend all your time in there, then a shorter shaft would be more beneficial. It depends on how you are going to run and where you are

    DM'D you a good cheap compression tester from Amazon on Instagram. You have put a ton of hours on that engine. Its a must for small engine monitoring and maintenance.

    Incorrect need to remove the spark plug get the pistol TDC top of cylinder you can achieve this by placing a screw driver in the plug hole and as the piston comes up to top it will stop this the compression stoke and both valves are relaxed then you can adjust properly
