Thank you for this video!! I just bought my first serger which is set to arrive today! Mind blown on the elastic foot. I watched a recent video of yours and was wondering why the elastic seemed to be floating. I can’t wait for your video on the elastic foot!!
Thanks for the tips Katie! Love your work and the FB group too. Question on your thread findings, what brand do you recommend? I’ve been using Maxi Lock stretch in my loopers and their regular polyester thread in the needles but just wondered your opinion
Katie. This is your best contribution to the YT Channel since it started dearest ! My Tip 9 would be to make the thin strap no wider than half a gusset at narrowest, with Tip 10 having the french cut legline sit on the front panel versus the side ? V.
I’ve been waffling over getting the elastic foot for over a year now and I think I’m gonna do it now thank you so much for all your tips! I have learned so much I have made pretty much every single one of your swimsuits except for the two newest patterns! And now it’s almost summer again so....
Thanku Katie. I love your patterns and tutorials. Very helpful. I have had an elastic foot for years and have been too afraid to use it. Well I’m going to try it now. Thank you for the nudge. Cheers
i have seen swimwear manufactures use a solding iron (pen like) instead of basting stitch. They also use a soldering iron to hold the fabric together outside of the pattern pieces when cutting through multiple layers.
I can make a full video on this, but it's mostly that my stitch length is much tighter. Back in the day I had quite a wide stitch length, so there wasn't much room to stretch. I'm doing a 4 thread overlock still!
You're so great Katie! I have a question, which software do you use that we see in your videos, where you're showing which suit youre making and which fabric print..?
Great idea! I've seen it done in the FB group but I've never tried it myself. It would be cool to collect tips from everyone in the group and making it into a video!
Wow thank you for this video ! I was wondering, when you sew the sides with a straight stitch, do you use a stretch stitch ? I always get so scared of getting broken stitches when using my sewing machine on stretchy fabrics...
I don't, but that's because my patterns don't have vertical negative ease. So what that means is they are not intended to stretch vertically, making it safe to use a straight stitch for vertical lines or other seams that aren't intended to stretch. A stretch stitch or zig zag is a great option still, it will serve the same effect because you'll be able to trim the excess!
Hi Katie, thanks for these tips! I wanted to find out if you can share tips on adding elastic as I tend to have an issue with the way the elastic lays once the costume is complete? I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong? I add all elastic to the one side of fabric? (printed side as an example) but I find the end result isn't as "clean" as I would like
Thank you Katie!! This is amazing ! Do you intentionally leave the final hole open when you sew the seams initially or do you still go back and seam rip?
Hahaha you are so cute wit your ⅜ … I love it. Your are so so good in front of a camera and the way you explain I give you 100% I will go see your other video, but if you did not do one on how to play wit your overlock wit different tissus, well that would be a nice Tuto. the books that they give wit the machine it’s not very good. And… well you explain very well Maybe think about it ? I know it’s a big video to do, but it would be greath. Sorry for my English I’m french and try my best. Cheers Sofie 🌹

Congratulations, it will be so worth it!! And thank you for your support!
Got an elastic foot and first try… so much better. Thanks,
Can you make a video implementing the new tips?
P.S. My BabyLock /Bernina sales and repair store said they loved Maxi-Lock for sergers and Gutterman for sewing machines. I haven't looked back.
Thanku Katie. I love your patterns and tutorials. Very helpful. I have had an elastic foot for years and have been too afraid to use it. Well I’m going to try it now. Thank you for the nudge. Cheers
It's worth it! It took me awhile to get the hang of it, but once I did I never turned back
i have seen swimwear manufactures use a solding iron (pen like) instead of basting stitch. They also use a soldering iron to hold the fabric together outside of the pattern pieces when cutting through multiple layers.
Thanks for the tips! What new settings are you using with both your sewing machine and serger?

Dang! I literally just bought a bunch of wooly nylon based off your older videos! 😂 🤣 🤗 I will just use it all then switch over.
I know lots of customers who still swear by wooly nylon!
Thank you for all these tips! Im switching threads now! You are a bikini queen!!
LoL your so funny, those tips are very useful
I love this channel ❤️❤️
So glad to hear that, thank you for watching!
You're so great Katie! I have a question, which software do you use that we see in your videos, where you're showing which suit youre making and which fabric print..?
Thanks so much Katie these tips are super helpful - is it possible to maybe do a video that involves adding brand labels/care labels?
Great idea! I've seen it done in the FB group but I've never tried it myself. It would be cool to collect tips from everyone in the group and making it into a video!

Yes! There will definitely be a more in-depth video on elastic, it's such a common nuisance!
@@EdgewaterAve thank you!! I would be very grateful ❤️
Thank you for this helpful tips, I wondering if you see back and forward when attaching the straps with straight stitch? Thank you ❤️
Yes! I always go over it a few times. Maybe it's overkill, but I go over it 3 or so times, backstitching back and forth
what sewing machine do you use! And what sewing machine would you recommend for beginners? Thank you!!
Thank you Katie!! This is amazing ! Do you intentionally leave the final hole open when you sew the seams initially or do you still go back and seam rip?
I go back and seam rip, it's just habit now! Plus I like not having to worry about stopping and continuing the elastic
Do you have a link for the brand of polyester thread? Do you have suggestions for setting eyelets in swimwear fabric?
Hahaha you are so cute wit your ⅜ … I love it.
