    I've never had a problem with being self-aware of my issues and strengths when it comes to basketball, and find myself very observant. I'd argue my biggest problem is that I start thinking too much (and A LOT) whenever I take notice of what works and doesn't work for me when shooting. I've always known the high bounce thing with shooting was a myth (When you're extremely quick to learn how to manipulate momentum to your advantage like myself it becomes obvious immediately). I think for me the biggest challenge shooting is simply maintain a consistent form, and even more so simply shooting from the baseline/corners. There is something so incredibly different in every way shooting from the corners of the court, and I've never once been remotely close to putting my finger on the how and the why it is so intensely different. It doesn't seem logical it should be, but holy hell is it my bane. It haunts me to an extent.

    I know this is unsolicited advice but... you can improve your shot by not dropping the ball after you catch it. The extra movement introduces extra opportunity for error. When you catch the ball immediately proceed into your shot, rather than dropping it and "winding up" your shot (not to mention quicker shot and less opportunity for defender to swat that low ball on the come up)

    • @ShotMechanics

Probably more bad shooters who don’t jump high compared to those that do. It all starts with getting your feet set and shoulders prepared to shoot. Shoot the ball as high or low as you want. You don’t have to jump high with spot shooting. Also the guards that you were talking about All have something very valuable in common. They handle the ball really well and they have great deception. I believe each player is different based off the gifts and skills that they have. Westbrook game was predicated on driving and pulling up that’s why he jumps high. He doesn’t do a lot of crafty dribbling because he is so fast. He’s a energy player and that’s his game. I’ve seen countless of people who don’t play in the NBA that have good shots but they can’t get their shut off or consistent on good defenders, so I believe it depends on a combination of knowing how to get good angles for your shot and having great balance. Shooting Is the easy part but the preparation is really important.

    The problem is not jumping too high but optimizing the release timing. Jumping high signifies greater power. The problem is being unable to use that power. It's like having a US power brick but living in Indochina. Jumping with great acceleration(f=ma) while optimizing release timing gives you the most amount of power to shoot from the longest range.

    I think there is nothing wrong with "jump and shoot", that is called a two-motion shot and tons of players have been doing that throughout their careers. Among them are MJ, Kobe, TMAC, etc. By that time, space or three-pointer was not as emphasized as now. IMO one-motion fits this era better, but in no way it is the only golden way to shoot.

    • @runnin_ramen4869
      @runnin_ramen4869 5 лет назад +1

      Will Dong yeah, but those players usually utilize a post fade, or shoot over defenders a lot, thats where the two motion shot is effective. The one motion shot has been shown to be more effective for 3pt shots and set shots, which i think coach was emphasizing.

    A trick you can use to get your shot off is to let the ball come up to you and get your body ready to shoot instead of doing that low dip because really good defenders will tip that every time. If you let the ball come to you your deception can be amazing. That’s what Steph does, Kyrie, Chris Paul, etc. basically The shorter guards.

    Can you do a video on how to stay calm on catch and shoot shots in game? I tend to get worried and release my shot way to early, but it doesn’t happen if I dribble into my shot.

      I don't think a video will help you. Are you shooting fast because the defense is recovering and you think they will block you? If that's the case you need to estimate their distance from you and analyze your opponent. Some defenders never jump for the ball block and some always jump for the ball block. If your defender is the type that doesn't jump then you can take your time. If he is a shot blocker, you should pass it out and reset for a better shot unless you're good at ball pumps and can get the and 1. Hope that helps

    I just tryna fix my flow tbh. I have a Kelly oubre type shot since I'm left handed to.
    I jump more to the left when I shoot not alot but enough to make it go straight. Some times the ball stays on the left.
    So yeah. I can shoot corner 3s from the left side easily tho

    If you find a 2 motion shot or set shot easier, just ignore this, because if you think about shooting and it's not natural, it wont be comfortable for you and it wont flow properly, unless you really want to change from 2 to 1 motion

    The thing with jumping high it is necessary when you are a much shorter player. You see Isaiah thomas do that and it pretty efficient being 5’9

    my natural tendency is to shoot kinda KD/d'angelo russell -ish where im righthanded but my setpoint is more towards the left a bit. anyways, i moved over to the right and fixed it but my arch is always low, and its hard to fix it

      idk, i stopped dipping the ball to my waist. i do the dip my chest and shoulder thing instead more. this aligns your shot path a bit better. for me at least
