I've never had a problem with being self-aware of my issues and strengths when it comes to basketball, and find myself very observant. I'd argue my biggest problem is that I start thinking too much (and A LOT) whenever I take notice of what works and doesn't work for me when shooting. I've always known the high bounce thing with shooting was a myth (When you're extremely quick to learn how to manipulate momentum to your advantage like myself it becomes obvious immediately). I think for me the biggest challenge shooting is simply maintain a consistent form, and even more so simply shooting from the baseline/corners. There is something so incredibly different in every way shooting from the corners of the court, and I've never once been remotely close to putting my finger on the how and the why it is so intensely different. It doesn't seem logical it should be, but holy hell is it my bane. It haunts me to an extent.
Bartholomew Lyons it’s actually really good. Only bad thing is he brings the ball to his other side like Lonzo. The dip is used by shooters like Ray Allen.
nope - not true buddy - ya not going to make it with that approach ... you need smarts and hard work, followed by more hard work - and then when you're resting from all the hard work you've done, do some hard work so you're keeping busy ... :) Can't say I've every heard, seen or been involved with a pro (in any sport) who said "nah, I worked less hard then that other bloke who didn't make it - just smarter" ... nope - cause it don't happen
You need both. If you work hard but you're stupid then you're not going anywhere. If you're being smart but you don't work hard then you're not going anywhere either
thank you so much for this video. i've always had an inconsistent jumper and i hope this can help me become consistent. two questions: how do you gauge the amout of power you need to put into your shot and who's shot forms should i take notes from?
You should take not from all players jumpshots but everyone has their own set point so work on finding yours and just do what is natural and for range it just takes practice to know how much strength you need to put into your shot
Damage The Darmanitan this should definitely help! So the power gauge will have to come from muscle memory... For forms I would check out Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, and James Harden 👍🏼
Coach You should do some vids about the feet sweep! I feel not enough people know about it. I was struggling with making consistent shots and tried every mechanic to perfect it. Once I started to sweep my feet, my shots have been super consistent; making me confident in shooting 3’s !!! Thank you Coach for all your tips/advice 💯
Funny how last week all my individual practices with a coach have been about fixing the exact same problem you explain in this video and it instantly increased my accuracy. It felt effortless, like I wasn't putting to much power into shooting but the ball was perfectly making it to the basket. Now I just need to get used to it, I still try to pull up as high as I can by instinct.
Thanks for the video, Coach Colin. I went to a PGC camp this weekend where shot speed was a focus. They had players start with the ball in your shooting hand, palm-up, waist-height, and use one fluid motion, releasing like throwing a football (index finger release). Definitely creates a more fluid motion. Ps: Have you tried the HomeCourt app to track your shooting accuracy? Thoughts?
Greg Hohman love me some PGC! I’m a grad and Mano and Tyler are buddies of mine 😀🙌🏼 I think some of my thoughts have rubbed off on them and vice versa haha.

Thanks a lot I started practicing today and almost immediately I started swishing more shots this helps a lot especially since I’m not a consistent shooter thanks a lot 🙏
I know this is unsolicited advice but... you can improve your shot by not dropping the ball after you catch it. The extra movement introduces extra opportunity for error. When you catch the ball immediately proceed into your shot, rather than dropping it and "winding up" your shot (not to mention quicker shot and less opportunity for defender to swat that low ball on the come up)
Seth Yeazel totally unsolicited and unfortunately totally wrong as well. Debunked that myth many a time. Take a dive through the channel to have your mind blow.
dude this shit made so much sense, i was already such a good shooter but i was just missing that ONE thing and this was it like it just instantly clicked when you said it
It’s definitely a process to get your jumper right, I only learned how to get a consistent jumper by trying to make at least 10 shots in a row outside of the paint. If I missed I would start over, it’s very frustrating if your new just got put in the work..
Can you make a video for feet set because every time i shoot I'm off balance,my right leg crosses to the left. Something like Lamelo Ball's wierd jumpshot
Nice tips - real Consistent shooting comes with rhythm. Lots of great shooters that Jump high on their release ex- Kyle korver, jj reddick, ray allen. Probably more bad shooters who don’t jump high compared to those that do. It all starts with getting your feet set and shoulders prepared to shoot. Shoot the ball as high or low as you want. Just be consistent
You don’t have to jump high with spot shooting. Also the guards that you were talking about All have something very valuable in common. They handle the ball really well and they have great deception. I believe each player is different based off the gifts and skills that they have. Westbrook game was predicated on driving and pulling up that’s why he jumps high. He doesn’t do a lot of crafty dribbling because he is so fast. He’s a energy player and that’s his game. I’ve seen countless of people who don’t play in the NBA that have good shots but they can’t get their shut off or consistent on good defenders, so I believe it depends on a combination of knowing how to get good angles for your shot and having great balance. Shooting Is the easy part but the preparation is really important.
The problem is not jumping too high but optimizing the release timing. Jumping high signifies greater power. The problem is being unable to use that power. It's like having a US power brick but living in Indochina. Jumping with great acceleration(f=ma) while optimizing release timing gives you the most amount of power to shoot from the longest range.
Heyy coach i have problems in basketball, if i drive to the basket my body is so weak so the defender have easy steal on me and my layup is always missing help me coach
I think there is nothing wrong with "jump and shoot", that is called a two-motion shot and tons of players have been doing that throughout their careers. Among them are MJ, Kobe, TMAC, etc. By that time, space or three-pointer was not as emphasized as now. IMO one-motion fits this era better, but in no way it is the only golden way to shoot.
Will Dong yeah, but those players usually utilize a post fade, or shoot over defenders a lot, thats where the two motion shot is effective. The one motion shot has been shown to be more effective for 3pt shots and set shots, which i think coach was emphasizing.
Please do a how to dribble a basketball fundamentals because I struggle on doing a crossover between the leg and behind the back I just need help on the foundations and the dribbling posture dribble height and more
I can shoot the ball from the half court line and I’m like on of those players like steph and tray and people at the YMCA think I’m strong but I’m not really

I love shot mechanics yesterday at my game I pump faked from the three the sidestepped and went to shoot and the guy grabbed my face and I still hit it I wasn't a shooter before I watched shot mechanics now I'm a reliable shooter
A trick you can use to get your shot off is to let the ball come up to you and get your body ready to shoot instead of doing that low dip because really good defenders will tip that every time. If you let the ball come to you your deception can be amazing. That’s what Steph does, Kyrie, Chris Paul, etc. basically The shorter guards.
Can you do a video on how to stay calm on catch and shoot shots in game? I tend to get worried and release my shot way to early, but it doesn’t happen if I dribble into my shot.
I don't think a video will help you. Are you shooting fast because the defense is recovering and you think they will block you? If that's the case you need to estimate their distance from you and analyze your opponent. Some defenders never jump for the ball block and some always jump for the ball block. If your defender is the type that doesn't jump then you can take your time. If he is a shot blocker, you should pass it out and reset for a better shot unless you're good at ball pumps and can get the and 1. Hope that helps
I just tryna fix my flow tbh. I have a Kelly oubre type shot since I'm left handed to. I jump more to the left when I shoot not alot but enough to make it go straight. Some times the ball stays on the left. So yeah. I can shoot corner 3s from the left side easily tho
