I worked at a shoe repair shop for years. I would often stay after hours to make sandals to sell on campus. A lot of students wanted Birkenstocks but couldn't afford them. I'd buy generic cork beds and sole sheeting at cost, through the store, stitch together the straps from unusable scraps of leather and assemble them. I could do half a dozen pairs in a few hours. $50 a pop. Kept me from starving.
Me encantó! Le quedó preciosa y con una calidad de construccion que se nota que está hecha para durar muchos años! Excelente trabajo y saludos desde Argentina :D
they will last a long time. but the first time you wear them in a wet environment and the leather will look completely different. the natural "nude" veg-tan is incredible but the shoes will maintain the same look for just a brief time. still, impeccable craftmanship on these!
@@ayasugihada the beauty of using natural veg tanned leather like this is the patina you will get, the trainers will age with you. Will they still look the same after they’ve been rained on, of course not but I would argue they’ll look better. This look isn’t for everyone. I have some trainers in natural veg tanned leather and as long as you oil them every few months (to feed the leather)they look amazing
super dope. i would love to see a bizzaro version where the license plate would perhaps be upside down, the inner eyelets would be on the outside . stuff like that. maybe have his full government name (charles hollis taylor) on the star.
I remember the time that its so rough and iam only a construction worker i cant buy new shoes because my priorities are the needs of my young son and a new born daughter i saw an old sandals but the soles are good i made my own pair of shoe using that out soles and my old blue jeans and when i use it to my work my work mate was so amaze now i want to try again and i cant do it again maybe i just did it before out of desperation
It takes a long time to make a handmade shoe, that's why it's pricey. Best thing about it though is they last forever, and usually they are infinitely repairable. I paid about 700 USD for a pair of custom boots which is a huge amount for me but I'm not regretting it at all.
I would like to find where to get some soles like that! I've looked all over the net using different search words and still can't find them. I would be forever grateful if you could point me in the right direction!
That heel contour form you have at 2:55, did you make that or is it commercially available? Also, what is it called? Thanks for the videos, I am enjoying learning.
Why not stitch the rubber sole onto the lower sides of the upper, using less cement (perhaps only cement on the bottom), so that when that sole wears out, it's easier to pull it off and put a new sole on? If the uppers are veg tan, they will last a generation, and you'll want to be able to resole the pair several times. Several leather sneaker manufacturers take that approach of stitching on soles like this.
@@GoodsandServices why wouldn’t you stitch this sole on like some of your other pairs.... doesnt that much cement make it hard to take the sole off? Do you use a glue thinner to help get it off?
