      IcePhysics Can you really blame him though? He’s already admitted he’s a huge fan of Koji Kondo, so getting a manuscript straight from Nintendo of one of Koji Kondo’s more famous (practically legendary at this point) pieces is probably a pretty big deal for a video game composer like Grant.

    • @IcePhysicsGaming
      @IcePhysicsGaming 6 лет назад +51

      Sure. I just find it comical that, from the company's perspective, they were merely sending a minor correction but on the other end, it was a much more significant event.

    That's pretty cool, not gonna lie.

    • @0palheart
      @0palheart 6 лет назад +128

      You know, maybe it's insurance for the future. Shigeru and the original Nintendo crew can't work on Mario games forever. Same with Sega and Sonic. But those franchises will hopefully last forever. Maybe it's the companies dipping their toe in and asking "can other creators make games that hold up to our franchise's legacy?" and it's working out pretty well so far.

  • @ShigKirby

    What an amazing opportunity that presented itself. I couldn't imagine as someone who did the classic N64 RARE soundtracks for Goldeneye and the BK series, a game like Mario 64 or Mario in general at the time was on an untouchable pedestal from Koji Kondo that he would never imagine getting an opportunity to work on. However all these years later he gets to re-imagine these official Mario tunes and put his stamp on it. Grant continues to work hard and have that giddy optimism for every new project, but its projects like this that probably make his career, make him feel like a kid again and let him live his wildest dreams.

    Sheesh Javed you're quality always blows me away. Whenever I need inspiration for animations for my own stuff, I hit up your work.
    Also, I'm not sure how Nintendo does it, but everyone they work with seems like they are genuinely cool and excited people, at leas in interviews. There's something about working on the type of games Nintendo does, or a corporate ethos or something.

    • @akaimizu1
      @akaimizu1 6 лет назад +22

      Hepyrian i also think it has a lot more to do with Nintendo's pedigree. Most people the age of our developers and composers grew up on Mario. Unlike the divisions of opinions of some gamers today, it's hard to find an experienced creator connected with videogames that doesn't hold the highest reverence for Nintendo and their history-making contributions. Including all rivals. Thus we've seen just about anybody jump at the opportunity when Nintendo wants to collaborate on something. It's basically like being figuratively asked by Disney to score their next big blockbuster. To young RUclips-loving gamers, they're just another company. To the devs, videogame composers, and creative directors (including ones under Microsoft and Sony), the house of Miyamoto is a living legend.

    • @GoodBloodGames
      @GoodBloodGames  6 лет назад +52

      Lucatin I don't usually reply to defend myself but yeah:
      Super Mario Maker dropped in 2015 in celebration of Mario's 30th Anniversary since his debut on a Nintendo console in 1985 which was Super Mario Bros. Obviously Mario had games earlier on arcade machines like Mario Bros which dropped in 1983 (32 years ago in 2015) but that's not what this video is talking about at all.

    • @Lucatin
      @Lucatin 6 лет назад +25

      Yes Donkey Kong and Mario Bros aren't directly related to the topic of this video. You're right not to talk about those games in this video, I wouldn't expect you to. But you stated that Super Mario Brothers was Mario's first game. When you're wrong you're wrong.
      I would like to add that I did really like your video. I learned a lot about Grant's involvement with this game that I did not previously know.

    After playing the game, I can safely say the soundtrack is great! Has this nice combination of wacky/crazyiness to you it you expect out of a game like this, with some serious bits here and there. Works well with a turn-based strategy XCOM-like game like this.

    Playing Mario v Rabbids my first and most immediate thought was... wow, it's really impressive how much Kondo's music elevates Mario games, because boy oh boy, does it's absence hurt this thing.

    The great thing about Mario's OG OST is that its practically perfect for Mario in every way, even his newer OST's incorporate the original as a foundation to work off of Koji Kondo really knew his shit man.
