This is one of the biggest parts of motorcycling being almost like therapy. Clutch, throttle, and brake all wanting your full attention. Being truly one with a machine. My greatest moments of clarity came to me during a good ride.
My first truck had a manual. There's nothing quite like getting that smooth shift from one gear to another in a car, having never ridden a motorcycle, I think it's going to be incredibly similar.
@@joshuareed8243 It took me a while to understand, why Yammie is doing this video, thinking that most Americans start driving cars at 16. Over here we have to wait till we're 18 but we almost always do manuals first so a clutch is nothing new to even an average driver.

Nice work. Check back in to let us know how it's going. I took the MSF course this year at 52-years old. Lots of bicycle riding and clutch-usage in vehicles in my past. Bought a Speed Twin 900 for my first bike. It's been amazing - I'd love to ditch the car completely. I can't ride enough.
Taking the MSF course was my first time ever riding a motorcycle, seemed pretty easy they way they walk you through it one step at a time. Because I never had any previous experience I never picked up any bad habits, it was an eye opener to see experienced riders in my class fail during the two riding sessions. To any new rider looking to take the MSF course, my best advise would be forget what you think you know and listen and do what the instructor says and you'll do just fine. Just got an MT-03 as my first bike and my dad has been teaching me to ride in a parking lot. The clutch has by far been the most difficult part of learning. You have to really treat it gently on the takeoff or you'll kill it. Up hill and down hill starts especially since you're on the brakes too (these got me mad because everyone driving by could see me kill it). Hopefully in a couple weeks I will be able to get my motorcycle license. Great vid!
I just got home from my first motorcycle riding class (in Brazil it's mandatory to take 20 hours of practice with a professional supervisor teaching you the basics, before you get the proper licence), and it was all about the clutch, just like that. I saved this video months ago and now that I had the opportunity to feel this (the parking lot part) it's easier to understand the progression that will lead to my future wheelies 😎 Great video

@@diegolewzey5286 Hola amigo. I had some difficulty with balance too. Not so much on a straight line (I ride bicycles for so many years, I think it helped a lot) but it was hard for me to turn the motorcycle to the right side. Since the right foot controls the rear brake, and we are taught to put the left foot down when we stop, I always felt the right side a little more "vulnerable". So much so that I fell / dropped the bike on my 5th or 6th class making a U-turn to the right. It took me some time to develop the confidence to make a right turn and keep my balance. The things that helped me the most were: look where you wanna go. Don't look down and while making a turn your eyes should be pointing where you wanna go. And also, squeeze the motorcycle with your legs, while maintaining your shoulders relaxed. I hope this helps

Had trouble at the msf with the clutch, half ass figured it out enough to pass the course. I got my first motorcycle and was doing great in parking lots. A few weeks go by and I was almost at square one again stalling in the parking lot, stalling at every light and stop sign. Discouraged to say the least but it’s very obvious it’s all about putting in the hours of practice.
@@lukew2194 i had trouble stalling the first day of the course then I figured it out. I passed the test and there were several people that failed so it’s not like they just pass anyone. I think my issues stemmed more from lack of practice rather than not knowing what I was doing. The more time that passed without riding the worse that I got. I think this can be true with many things in life.
I just got my first bike Tuesday. I've been shifting wrong this whole time. I thought I had to give it gas while I was letting off the clutch. I was also letting it out slowly like when taking off in first. No one I know rides. I'm learning everything from RUclips. 😂

Last year I tried out for a CBT (in the UK) and was really looking forward to getting into motorbikes. The CBT instructor gave me a bike with a broken clutch lever, saying it shouldn't affect anything... But I just could not feel the clutch at all. Left completely disheartened as the other two learners also passed straight away. One of them was on a twist and go, and the other had years of experience riding a bike in India... I'm to try again this year with the help of this useful video. Thank you!
two more things that seem to catch out total noobs: 1. A bike has a sequential gearbox, so you push the lever up or down to select the next gear, but then you need to let the gear lever return to it’s neutral position, so that the next gear can be chosen. It’s like a rally car gearbox. 2. While it’s obvious when you think about it, the lack of experience for noobs will mean they probably don’t initially understand that you need to pull in the clutch lever when you stop, otherwise, you’ll stall the bike.
Very helpful man I’m starting off on a smaller bike a Duke 390 and I used to have dirt bikes back in the day but it’s been years this video definitely was helpful
I'm a truck driver and it's interesting how much the shifting has in common with big trucks. We have to match our engine and trans speed when down shifting. Cool shit.
Finally someone explained the clutchless shifting in praticall way! Thanks Yammy papa! And, Btw, just remembered my 1st time riding a non scooter on the street. Stoped at a red light in an aclive and, after 3 frustrating fails to take-off, ended up wheeling and clutched down as reflex, lol...

"pull in the clutch, the drama's gonna stop." I hope my life is that easy to stop the drama.
Newbie on a rebuilt '71 CB350 here, your videos have helped me so much! Thank you
I feel like this video should have included an expert level where you show people how to pop that shiz and get some dank whoolies going. Then I remembered that yammie can’t wheelie lmao
I popped a wheelie in this video lol I don’t like doing huge wheelies in my videos, trying to set a good example!
I was kind of hoping for how to use the clutch best at the drag strip myself.
@@yammienoob I know you’ve been improving them mate, just taking the piss hahaha
@@timsretirementjourney8323 The trick there is to buy yourself a drag car and use your bike for twisty roads

As a new Rider I have learned so much from your videos thank you!
Pro tip rev your engine to a higher rpm and quickly let go of the clutch for a smooth beginner friendly take off
Shhhh, Don't give them all the pro tips that easy.
Take off from earth, I see
Did that on accident the first time I ever tried using the clutch on a dirt bike…it didn’t end well 😂
@@tarynlane6really
Yammie I just got my motorcycle license, still trying to smoothly use the clutch and dance. Thank you for the awesome content, it helps a great deal.
Nice video!
Been riding for a week. Got my first biker wave a few days ago! Am I... am I part of the club now?! 🙃
Lol
Thanks for the refresher. Haven’t ridden a bike in 10 years but want to finally get myself another one.
Bro I’ve been watching yammie noob for years and I finally have a bike. This is the most helpful motorcycle Channel on YouTub! This is what I was looking for
Only passed my test yesterday! Still soo happy about it. Now I gotta save for the gear and a bike :'( gona take a while lol
Hows it going
@@TheG60528XiJinPing have the gear all bought but still saving to get the bike
@@StewBro That's the way to do it!
@@StewBro what bike will u be getting
@@k.bobcat7567 I like the idea of an mt07 a z750 or a gsxs750. Just have to wait n see wot comes up wen I have the money saved to buy
I've been binge watching so many videos, getting myself taught, and ready for when I go to apply for my license. It's all so exciting! I appreciate all of the instructors I've gotten to learn from on RUclips University. So far my dream bike is a Suzuki Gsx-R 600. I think it may be the happy medium for a beginner. A little speedy but not too much to handle. (Because I will respect the machine!) Thank you so much for all the life-saving information! See you in the next video! 🏍
We need a stage 2 mobility scooter tutorial 🛵💥💨
Clutchless gear changing is fine on the triumph as its literally engineered to do it wouldn't do Clutchless down shift on a bike not engineered to do this it's a sure way to damage the gearbox.
OUT OF ALL VIDEOS ABOUT CLUTCH. I understood yours 😭 maybe not all but i just have to replay it more so i can internalize everything 🙏🏼❤️ thank you mwah
I rode a dirt bike when younger but I know I was probably pretty violent with the clutch.
I don’t recall much friction zone action lmao
Had trouble at the msf with the clutch, half ass figured it out enough to pass the course. I got my first motorcycle and was doing great in parking lots. A few weeks go by and I was almost at square one again stalling in the parking lot, stalling at every light and stop sign. Discouraged to say the least but it’s very obvious it’s all about putting in the hours of practice.
That's not saying much for the MSF course, letting people with no firm grasp on the basics out on the street.
Next video: '' I was WRONG about the clutch lever. (bye bye brake lever?)''
You should definitely be a teacher. You are doing a hell of a job explaining things in this video.
thank you
Man, I don't ride motorcycles yet and I completely forgot that they're just sequential transmissions lmao
This is the first RUclips video that I actually learned something and it's really helpful.
Not the video I wanted. But most certainly the video i needed.
After 147 years of riding, just found out theres more than one gear on a motorbike! Thanks Yamalamammy!
4:40 my bike stops while doing that
I don't know how to drive motorcycle and i'm saving to but a XSR155 next year... now I understand how clutch works very big help
I just got my first bike Tuesday. I've been shifting wrong this whole time. I thought I had to give it gas while I was letting off the clutch. I was also letting it out slowly like when taking off in first. No one I know rides. I'm learning everything from RUclips. 😂
same as me 😂
I have had my first bike for 6 months know and till today I forgot about the friction zone so all I doo is race launch everytime. Very educational video thank you
I watched I watched this 2 years ago thinking I would never ride now I’m 19 I bought my own bike and I just started learning how to ride it and this video is the first one I went for
Unless you are a professional pilote, don’t ever think about clutchless transmissions... best way to kill your bike. Take care, ride safe 😉
Explain
Last year I tried out for a CBT (in the UK) and was really looking forward to getting into motorbikes. The CBT instructor gave me a bike with a broken clutch lever, saying it shouldn't affect anything... But I just could not feel the clutch at all. Left completely disheartened as the other two learners also passed straight away. One of them was on a twist and go, and the other had years of experience riding a bike in India... I'm to try again this year with the help of this useful video. Thank you!
Should’ve reported them that’s dangerous
When you rev match perfectly, you don't even need the clutch to shift gears. I love to do that. :D
I'm 19 and hoping to get a bike, this makes sense and I can't wait to come back on this vid to try it!
I don't know why I watch this video, I've been riding close to ten years...
Thanks so much man! I just taught myself how to drive clutch in one night, thanks to your video!! You made it so easy!!
two more things that seem to catch out total noobs:
Damn the sky was very pretty when you were filming this
I rode the bike for the first time today, it was awesome. The clutch is a big deal. Bigup man
Too complicated, I'll stick to walking
I'm a truck driver and it's interesting how much the shifting has in common with big trucks. We have to match our engine and trans speed when down shifting. Cool shit.
Mothertrucker has to tempt me with riding my bike (exact same paint) on such a wintery time of year. Shame on you Yammie, shame on you!
I'm glad you went back to the basics. Videos get lost with time.
Squeeze, release, repeat.

@Yammie Noob I just bought a bike & it comes in Tuesday so this video just helped me out tremendously thank you!
Imagine needing a clutch

Finally someone explained the clutchless shifting in praticall way! Thanks Yammy papa!
And, Btw, just remembered my 1st time riding a non scooter on the street. Stoped at a red light in an aclive and, after 3 frustrating fails to take-off, ended up wheeling and clutched down as reflex, lol...
The clutch is honestly so easy to learn I'm 13 and I ride a scrambler it only took me 2 weeks to master the clutch
Ah yes, a true master of the clutch, how many bikes have u ridden?
Same but I'm 14. I learned to ride in a different country. (Bangladesh) cant wait to turn 16
Thank you. I never riding clutch motorcycle before. This helped me a lot.
I like what you says about the clutch, “give or take” on the power.
Thank u so much just bought a Honda cbf 125 witch is the Max for 18 year Old in my country, now im waiting for my dad to get a bike so he Can ride with me ❤️ thanks for the tips
Love how you covered the ugly brake fluid reservoir on the handle bar. Nice bike and then they put a cheep plastic brake fluid reservoir on it.
doing my basic in the uk in a couple of days, this is part of my prep work to understand the bike a bit better.
After wanting to get into riding for years now but never having the opportunity, I'm finally going to be taking the first step and taking my MSF course very soon :D
U help me a lot brother. Thank you from Malaysia
In a few months I'm saving up for a motorcycle and learning ahead of time I'm excited
