imagine sitting at a stop light and looking at some guy on a motorcycle gesturing randomly right next to you.
i always wonder that. it's the same for looking at people who vlog in the gym, at restaurants, stores, parks, w/e
It's understandable for most since they see cameras and stuffs. But I'll always be weird when they start doing jerking off motion
I was thinking the same thing lol
I might start making gestures like that at stops just to see the reactions I get. Without all the cameras and stuff.
meh Some people do it while they're on the phone too so I never think too much of it.
rev matching break-down:
4 steps
1 clutch in
2 gear down
3 rev
4 clutch out
If it is too difficult thinking about the four steps happening super fast, try splitting it in the middle. Clutch in and gear down. you can coast along clutch in without issue. This gives you time to focus on the rev matching and letting the clutch go again :)
Thanks for the clarification he mixed up his explanation on 7:50 when he said that rev goes first before gear down as to what he said on 3:15
Something not learned yet, my mind is thinking that you would increase throttle for higher gear and decrease throttle for a lower gear. If you blip the throttle seems the opposite would happen, btw I'm ok with counter steering. Will experiment with this rev match. Own a HD could help I guess.
Even though this comment is 2 yrs old, I am just starting out on a bike and I guess I can’t seem to overthink downshifting but this comment helped. Thanks
do we need to full clutch in or just half clutch?
@@bisskittTV full clutch 👍
i recommend to touch the brake of the backwheel slightly so the red light shows the other ppl behind you that you slow down
Yep, that's how i do it too. Helps give the driver behind a couple seconds of advance warning that you're slowing down. Sometimes i even give the brake lever a few light taps to flash my brake light before actually slowing down so other drivers can notice it sooner.
Front brake should enable it too
i have an box wired to my ecu and it activates the brake light, if i have more than 50% throttle position and close the throttle. Does basically the same thing you do, but automaticly.
I have a "smart brake module" wired into my brake light. My brake light begins flashing when it senses deceleration. Then solid when I'm on the brakes.
I have been doing rev matching when I am going fast and needed a quick response on gearing down aggressively. Rev matching is also a wise choice gearing it up especially up slopes and in jams. Saved my hide a few times to evasively avoid accidents. I do engine braking too especially a slow stop on the red light, behind cars or going down slopes. Depends on your riding style.
I never knew that this was a procedure to do. I taught it myself through all my years of motorcycle riding.
VRK taught myself in my car and just seemed like the natural thing to do on the bike 😂
@@shadowvilln711 haha.. yeah
I been doing that since I was a kid on the farm here in NZ..Didn't even know throttle " blipping " was a thing..I just learnt to copy the sounds of the racing bikes on TV..You Americans had a rider who was my idol, Wayne Rainy was his name..
You are the best teacher on here.. literally have watched about 30 videos and you’ve made it the most clear. With multiple examples. Also perfect visual and explanations . Thanks man !!
Tried this my 2nd time riding around ever and this worked amazingly. Glad I watched this. Nice one Yammie
Don’t have a bike yet but I did just obtain my motorcycle license, I love watching all of the informative content you have makes learning easier for noobs like me. Driving in Dallas I need all of the info I can get it’s dangerous out here but I feel like I was born for this I can’t imagine my life without a bike. Can’t wait to see fellow motorcyclist on the road!!!!
Proud to say I'm no longer a bike less squid. Thank papa yam for all the help and info. I'm still learning so I'm still watching and stalking after 2and half years
Rev matching through a corner while being smooth is the best feeling needless to say it’s dangerous
I don't know any riders that do rev matching, most of them never heard of it, when your coming to a stop and you ease up on the gas ,and use the brakes or clutch if your stop is more sudden ,the bike slows down automatically so you are going slower for the next downshift so the engine braking is not abrupt anyway, I have never rev matched and had no mechanical problems
Well! With Rev matched downshifts, you slow down much quicker than what you are doing, while being extremely smooth at it.
Smoother braking, less clutch wear, quicker engine braking to use in combination with the brakes=generally better slowing down
Hands down best description of blipping/rev matching on the internet.
The one thing I’d like to know: you described rev matching while being on the front break… can the same be done with the rear break instead - why/why not?
With rear brake only? You could but, At a decent speed, the rear brake might not be significant. It is not enough to help you slow the bike let say before entering a corner or stopping at a stop loght. and if you were to press harder(rear brake) to slow down, it tends to lock up easier. Hence most of the slowing down will be from the front brake, along with rear brake. That is why we revmatch while applying the front brake. Depending on situation or what you trying to achieve(comes with experience), you might need or might not need to apply the front brake during revmatch.
And never brake during turning. Brake on a straight line only and if you want, you can trail all the way into the corner, pressing it or letting it go slightly
@@spider121 thanks for the explanation mate, appreciate it. Got one perfect blip the other day but kept stuffing up after that so I went back to regular downshifting. Gotta keep trying.
“Never brake during turning” lemme guess, or else you’ll go for a slide… like I did last week 😅
I'm a new rider but I drive a semi and I have found myself doing this instinctively. That's how you downshift in a truck. By the way. Love your channel. I've learned quite a bit. Thanks !
im 12yrs old and i own a 125cc dirt bike in which i just cruise around our farm lot practicing some rev matches and some other riding skills hahahahaah i love bikes so much
Just buy one with a quick shifter/ auto blipper and feel the joy of clutch less shifts with perfect rev matching when down shifting :)
There’s just one little thing I don’t understand, everybody says when you downshift don’t let out the clutch super fast or else the bike will jerk and thats not good. Yet when you’re down shifting in the video you pull the clutch in and out in like less than a second 🤔
When blipping, you let the clutch out quickly from what I gather.
Ya dude it depends on how you are downshifting. Letting it out slowly is great when you are letting your RPM match with the gear you just shifted to. If you are rev matching you don’t need to let the clutch out slowly because the gear is now matching the RPM and the bike won’t be throwing itself forwards due to poor shifting
The whole thing should take less than a second, If your try to let the clutch out slowly the revs will drop down and when the clutch engages the momentum of the bike will rev the engine the bike will jerk.
It's like car, only when u are in 1'st and 2'nd u let it out slow, others gears you can do fast :)
3:30 sorry for sounding like a noob to engines but, this was a super helpful explanation.
Had an "ooooh! thats super easy" moment of revelation there.
So you're not actually trying to match the revs IN 3rd gear to what it will be in 2nd gear.
You're literally just trying to get the free-spinning clutch to rev as fast as your next gear.
So potentially you could just hold the clutch in for a full second if you need extra time to match rev, no stress no big deal. Nice.
Yes, but that would be too dangerous. When you pull the clutch in for a long time when riding, you are basically free wheeling, its as though you are cruising on neutral gear. And this is very dangerous because you can go quite fast doing this and los control if your bike as there no engine braking whatsoever. In my country free wheeling is a no no, even if its for a few second
This is not only a simple video. This is a masterclass. Wow! Amazing content, sir
I love rev matching I’m here to learn more .. Good content
Thanks a lot i am a learner and it helped me a lot.Lots of love and support from Nepal
I was told by a MSF instructor that I didn't need to learn the throttle blib because it's for racers.
And he is right. Rev matching is for when you have to be fast and is chasing times. I always rev match everywhere, but It doesn't really matter if I don't. Taking an additional 20 seconds to reach college isn't a deal breaker (when I don't Rev match).
Speed 0,25 or 0,5 helps do understand better action between 08:00 and 08:30. Great vid. Thanks.
Thanks for the video i just got a Kawasaki Ninja 250r to start out on and i cant use the brake while bliping the throttle because i dont have the wrist to do both pull the brake and blip the throttle i have to rev match and you did an amazing job explaining it and showing it awsome video all around thanks for the help and ride safe
I’m a new biker. I struggle to rev match and have got used to the bike lunging forward. I usually accidentally rev match but don’t see how I do it 😂
The key is practice my friend...its not really describable
Rev matching is important for smooth gear shifting as well - both up and down shifts.
--my experience
If more people drove a stick shift car these days then this concept would just be common sense...
Lol no! In my country 95% of people drive stick shift. And 99% probably haven't heard of Rev matching. I always get asked "What are you doing?" when I take someone as pillion. Followed by "was that planned?". Then finally "Why the hell would you throttle while braking".
And the most ridiculous of all.. "Why the hell are you using front brake? Don't you know that it's dangerous".
Until I watched this video I didn't know you had to rev match when driving a manual car :-/
@@jake8217 ikr
LJS it’s even more important in a car bc it’s a dry clutch as opposed to a bikes wet one
@@jake8217 "Why the hell are you using front brake?" - this shows why they are pillion and not riding :)
Yes...is a smooth downshift, but if you want to engage real engine brake, rev matching is not so effective. It’s all about momentum, it will decelerate harder if you are not going on rev match. So I think is a better way to just take a corner or approaching intersection. But if you are in a hard brake situation I recommend doing it the old fashion way.
Ohh man best rev matching tutorial ever... Loads of love brother...😍🤘
Rev matching/maxing is the best part on my CBR250R, getting a Z650 and keeping the Tricolor as it’s literally a really fun Urban Bike. Plus it’s a 12’ we’re getting n year 20 with 5k miles ( old dude put 200 miles on her, he only drove in his gated community. I should get 40k miles out of her) 2 Down, God bless.
Lol I saw rev match and thought this was about teaching a group of riders to figure out how to interpret the RPM of a bike near you and learning to match it's rpm range with throttle control. I don't think about the way the bike lurches forward and I have revved during a shift but never knew the term. I just knew that if you down shift on a bike and it lurches a bit then you are probably going a little fast for the gear you're in. Cheers for the riding tip. It sounds like a good way to save your brakes.
Not the load but the vacuum in the motor is what slows it down when you’re off the throttle
2:04 You're Welcome
I appreciate that you stop talking when you showcase how to blip the throttle and down shift to rev match and engine brake. i’ve watched countless videos and everyone just runs their mouth the whole time like “see, this is how you do it. see, listen to it right there” and all you can hear is their mouth and not the bike 😂
I use the rear brake sometimes when match revving its easier to control the clutch and the throttle
Yeah, I notice that too.
I have been riding for 7 years now but have never used rev matching. I used to apply brakes a little when downshifting and it worked fine. I have seen many riders doing this but didn't knew what it was until now.
I'll try this soon. Hope I find an empty road.
This is L.O.L for street racer!! Good buddy
"And you always want to be smooth while riding...speaking of smooth, *YOUR* *BALLS* " -Yammers' normal ad read
I’ve been riding for 6 years and I still haven’t mastered this. The timing is so hard for me to grasp. I’ve basically resorted to holding the clutch, braking to the speed I want, then downshifting. This video helps but I think I need in person instruction
That picture on your back wall is sweet..
wow, fist time i rev matching, it's feels like i on a race, even though my bike is a little cruiser
I barely am on day 3 of riding a bike. This is a whole new level for me. Oh shit
in cars, we called that heel-and-toes... it's much more difficult to do it on a bike, especially before entering into the corners.
I just use both brakes, and will downshift to the next lowest gear and let the clutch lever out slowly for some gentle engine braking. I tried rev matching, but it didn't seem to make much difference...👍😺
I really understood down shifting better on this video
Thank you
Thank god for slipper clutch!
Saves yourself a lot of chain+sprocket kits as well as your clutch, even on a moped....
Very useful information. Thank you so much for this.
Definitely trying this on my DIRTBIKE first, before I even think about doing it on the street lol.
it sounds hot to me!! I love the sound of bikes!!! oh and the smell of bikes,,,,,,
Love that sound.
So I just started practicing rev matching I feel like I’m improving but I see videos were riders rev match gears back to back and looks smooth but when I do it sometimes I notice I take slower and longer to rev match between gears because if I drop from 4 to 3 the engine slows down a lot and I feel it because I kinda lunge foward it’s a rough slow down
His explanation is way off, though the crux of it was right. If you drive a manual car and this video confused you (because cars don’t lurch like this) then that’s normal.
You see cars used synchronized transmissions , the synchros help the fast spinning teeth in the gear slot into to the slower ones. The purpose of rev matching is to make the synchros job less burdensome thus preserving them. Cars like the civic type r have computerized automatic rev matching - a cool feature.
Motorcycles are like race cars, they have SEQUENTIAL transmissions. Rev matching prevents that bogged down lurch, but is a performance technique and not necessary for longevity like with street cars. Why don’t all cars have sequential transmissions? I think the main reason is , as the name suggests the gears must be hit in order , and on the street I often will slip a gear when gearing down or go into over drive after a hard 3rd gear pull to highway speed. If it had a sequential tranny , you’d have to pump that lever through each gear to get to the gear of choice.
Nice video papa Yam, nice tutorial for person who wanted to ride a manual motorcycle
I finally made it. Thank you so much
I cannot get over how sexy that fz07 is.
Thanks, I'm learning a lot ...
Papa Yam, eres un maestro!!
holy crap that thing sounds good!
Thankx bro u cleared all my doubts
Thanks for your great vids Yammie!!! Please do a video for us on the ER-6F if by any means possible. I would like to see how you ride the bike as it is my first road bike I will be purchasing, note that I do have an MX backround...
can't wait to use this in 5 years when I graduate college
thanks radical cubes
Hiya
What about very gently engaging the clutch without opening the throttle when downshift?
I gather you just rev slightly before disengaging the clutch when performing a downshift?
I love this vid i learn so much!
Shit ive been doing it alllll wrong for the past 3 months. Ive been a "coast'r" always coast into stops.
Thanks for the shout out!🥰
Missed a stop sign, or two! 😂👍🙈
Instructive video, are there any people alive in that town?
Looks like sorcery to me. Definitely trying this the next time I ride!
"Giveaway motorcycle" No plural. Good old times....😂
Good video & very informative. Question: What if I rev match BUT don't release the clutch for 5-10 seconds?
That was a fantastic video bro
Why am I watching this tutorial, I always do rev match😂
Can do this on a 10 speed manual hope it translates to a motorcycle
Love the exhaust sound brilliant
i'm a clutch in, shift all the way down while im coasting, and using the brakes to stop, type of dude Lol cause this shit too confusing
most the time im giving it two "blips" just to get my brain ready. but im new af lol
I wish i could give you infinite likes❤️
Thankyou sir!
Nice FZ. Did you give it away before it could be written off?
Engine braking on 2 stroke bike 5/5 dont do it.
But dropping 3 at once gears to haul ass is okie dokie
Love the bike mat!!!
Good video nicely done. Thank you
Then how do you rev match with the bike having quick shifter / autoblipper while downshift?
Great video!
Clutch it. This is for more advanced riders. A bad clutchless shift on a bike is torture on gears and other stuff
Is it pull in clutch, blip throttle, and downshift? Or pull in clutch, downshift, blip throttle?
Logically, by milli second, maybe pull in clutch first, and blip downshift together. But i dont think you should ask this question. All should be done together, or atleast, feels like you doing everytjing at simultaneously. Revmatching needs practise and experience. Also you need to understand your bike. To knkw when and howmuch you should blip.
Some would also do it simultaneously but they let go if the clutch slowly, by the time the rpm will go down before the gear engage.
Hence i would say, everything is simultaneous. Sometimes i dont even use the clutch but to do this, you must very familiar with revmatching
Stay safe, and watching people revmatch or even hearing how the enginse sounds like, helps.
The reason u rev match is to keep the back tire from locking up for a split sec
I've been doin this forever without knowing
Very nice sir.
Kinda lost here in the garage he says to pull the clutch in shift then blip the throttle let go of the clutch. On the road he pulls in the clutch blips the throttle then shifts let go the clutch am I missing something?
So what happens if you pull clutch shift down with out blip throttle
Do I have to do it on a dirtbike
Nice video Yammie. What kind of Motorcycle is this ?
If your rev marching to down shift ?
And say you need your front brake how would that work?
2 finger on brake mean while throttle to match downshifts?
Iam first rider so iam learning still
Is it bad to just hold the clutch in and down shift as you slow down?
I had two 50 cc bike and one 600 cc bike. I always downshifting simply clutch, throttle and move foot on shift lever. I heard that I should make pressure on shift lever before downshifting. Our foot should make pressure on shift lever before blipping and after bliffigh our foot should make more pressure and change gear in the end. Do you do this in this way?
