I reckon if you had a "lazy susan" turntable affair and stood your object on that as it slowly turned, that'd give a much cleaner capture, too. You could probably even automate the process with a small electric motor turning the turntable.
no lasers no projectors.. just a cheap web cam... awesome !!
There is another similar software which does this; multiple framing. After you scanned the up, turn the object and scan the bottom, then the software merges both parts in a unique mesh.
this is sick iv have not seen a free version of a program that will capture the texture of an object the initial shape yayay so happy btw thumbs if drinking coke while watching
Hi, you can always reduce the polygons number in "meshlab" free software
we will add reduce mesh option/ability in our next versions.

@viktorgv ah ok, it did work with an old crappy camera but not with the good one, seems to be a great program cant wait to new verison to see if it works,
btw what sizes are the textures saved in? power of 2?
I was sceptical at first but I can see that its simply tracing profile of the can into a polyline and then creating a mesh from numerous lines based on the orientation of the scanning mat at the time the image was taken... Given that I take it that it cant scan internal "bowl" shaped objects? basic but quite clever, I suppose the only limit to the scanning size is mat size and accuracy is dependant on camera resolution and number of images :) does is automaticaly overlap and crop textures too?
@someman7 hey, no he did not! he just show the movie . he promised to release commercial program more than year ago. but never did it . Can I scan bigger images by printing out a bigger checker board? Nice looking program, I'll try the demo. Great price if it works.
Wouldn't it capture the object in greater detail if you were to use a smaller checkerboard? Or does the program only support the one you are using?
@someman7 no i didn't mean that he lied. i just saying that he promised to release the software but never did it cos of some reason.maybe he didn't succeed because of some technical problems or maybe he just stop develop technology or maybe he is not in the right mood i don't know really. Well, i got the technology, i didn't stop to develop and i got the right mood. So my software is the first commercial program :)

cool concept, great for complex models. But using it on a pop can, not the way to go. That wire-frame of the pop-can is awful. Will still have to try this out.
Are you able to do continued meshes?
Say you have a cube, the camera will only get 5 sides because the 6th is on the bottom. Are you able to continue the mesh to you can get all 6 sides?
Or no...?
You don't need to draw the grid, just download it from vi3dim web site, also read the minimal hardware requirements to run this software.
you can scan any size object, just print bigger check-board
How about if instead of black squares you used black L's so you can always know which way is which even after a quick motion?
Hello, in this video you scan the top and sides of the can, if i need to scan top sides and bottom of the piece, how can I do it?

I think that he meant by PC or Windows emulator in mac is to use a program called.... WINE, I think, that lets you use PC applications on a mac.

vitaly. I tried several 3d scanning software but none of them seem to support turntable with still camera. They require the person to walk around the object instead. Does your software take care of turntable?

it works fine, i just had to print out lots of check boards, then i whopped my weener on. and span around, easy.

i have downloaded the demo, but it doesnt start! it crashes emediatly to the desctop!
On 32bit and 64bit end of file error.... a pitty, it looks good....
I have V2, all it does is point map a video, it doesn't scan anything..

good idea but it was poorly written........ lemme know when they have a better version that works
The viewer just pops up with a grey screen with nothing happening upon loading the video clip into the rec.bat. O well, like I'm really gonna spend $395 dollars anyways, that's more than my paycheck a week.
Just download simple video from the web site, see tutorial and try to reconstruct , as result you will get 3d model !!!

I got now a separate good web-cam and it opens now in the 320x240 resolution but although I have a new Sony with second Generation 64 bit Intel it is not showing the squares that should connect the chess board squares - light is good and alignment is also good - so for me I could not make it work
