Stray cats were a retro band when I was a kid . Brian Seltzer. The singer an guitarist also went on to be the leader of the Brian Seltzer orchestra. He's a very talented gentleman
There was this basketball game, Gainesville High and Ocala Vanguard back in the 80’s. Vanguard had tradition. When they scored a bunch of points, the fans would say: “We Are Vanguard!” But Gainesville we’re the Cats. When they took the lead, the fans would yell, “But I Got Cats Class and I got Cat Style.”
I was so blessed to be able to see the Brian Setzer orchestra at the San Diego fair doing the orchestra thing and I was also lucky enough to have seen them twice at the Greek theater for the Christmas concert... it was the most amazing time of my life besides making love for the first time when your mom LOL... .
Yes, cats sometimes howl too, dogs are just more famous for it. And not every dog howls either. While they are obviously different. canines and felines do have some similarities.
Brian Setzer, the lead singer and guitarist, has had an amazing musical career spanning over 4 decades… he single-handedly revived rockabilly in the early 80’s. And the revived big band/ swing in the 90’s. There are too many great songs to recommend here but, In the mood by Brian Setzer orchestra , The dirty boogie, My baby only cares for me, and many others are worth a listen….glad I subscribed…..!
Great comment! He is also credited with influencing the Ska movement of the late 80's through the 90's with bands like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones who incorperated the rockabilly sound into a lot of their songs. Chicago was also a major influence on the Bosstones as they utilized the horn section as heard from songs like 25 or 6 to 4.
Half, I take it you've never heard a cat howl at night. Stray Cats (along with lead singer Brian Setzer) were on the forefront of the retro "swing" (actually jump blues) revolution of the 1980s-1990s and had a successful solo career later (in the 1990s). This song was such a great vibe.
I really like the Stray Cats because they were a different kind of band for the eighties! They had a sound and a style that was reminiscent of the 1950’s! I enjoyed their videos and energetic live performances! Lead singer Brian Setzer went on to form the Brian Setzer Orchestra, after the Stray Cats disbanded, which was a throwback to the big band era! Check out other Stray Cats hits like, Sexy and Seventeen and Rock This Town!❤️❤️
These guys resurrected the Rockabilly genre, taking on the old school 50s with such a cool twist. I’m a classic rock guy but this is great music. Brian Setzer is a fantastic guitarist & we’re hoping to get to see his show later this year! 🤘😎
You’ve never heard a cat howl? Or wail? Especially when two cats do their standoff? I’ve seen the Stray Cats and Brian Setzer’s Orchestra and he’s always been great. Can sing a melody while soloing which isn’t an easy task.
Yea for a brief time in the late 90's, Swing music came back into style. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy did very well. But don't forget that the lead singer of Stray Cats here, Brian Setzer, had another band in the late 90's that was also doing Swing music right along side BBVD... The Brian Setzer Orchestra.
A "cat" was a cool guy back in the day. And a "stray" was a single guy, no money, trying to make it in the world. The song is about a cool guy who doesn't let his circumstances get him down. He is still impressed with himself ... and apparently he thinks the lady cats are too😂❤🎉
Another thing like ppl say dawg now back in the 50s they used terms like cool cat , was the terminology . Even though these guys doing rocks a Billy 50s style. The Stray Cats were a band from the 80s doing a 50s style.
Alien Fashion Show, Atomic Fireballs, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Stray Cats were the major artists in the "Swing" revival period. I personally preferred the Squirrel Nut Zippers. If want another twist check out Post Modern Jukebox. They take modern songs and re-imagine them as oldies (50's 60's). Nothing like hearing All About that Bass, Creep, Gangsta's Paradise done up like a 1920's or 1930's big band song.
You will love it if you see Seltzer live. You'll dance from start to finish. BTW, HOWLING IS NOT VOCALIZING. ITS SOMETHING ELSR SPECIFIC TO BEING A tomcat.
Omg, love the two of you SO much!!!! Your both so down to earth and put a smile on my face everytime I see a new video uploaded. Jai, I absolutely LOVE the "Richie Rich" sweatshirt!!!❤ Looking at it gave me.an awesome mental walk down Memory Lane, to when I was a young child and times seemed so much easier & care free. Yes, Saturday mornings were always started with the morning cartoons. I would love to get a sweatshirt or t-shirt like yours. I recently found a Fraggle Rock shirt!!!! Remember that show anyone? This is an awesome song, that I remember hearing play as a child. Once again, thanks for sharing.
I love when you two put up a new video. Your interactions are always so full of love and fun. Jai I love your hoodie. I grew up with that shiz lol Much love to you guys.
Hey Jai..I love you too...if half didn't tell you.... thank you for everything I will never ever find two people who didn't even know me.. but kept my drunk doped out butt off the highway many a night in these mountains... Just know Kentucky loves you both... But Jesus Christ loves you more!!!!!!!... I'm just a stray cat 🐈 lololol
Jai because you helped me with my man, because you helped me share my pain with what happens to someone out of control and no one looking. Mikey is the only real man who ever wanted me. I was very poor growing up in hollers....if I could pick any woman of color I wish I could be... you're it. You guys are like rock stars to me. Jesus loves your guys style...🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰.. Lolo... yeah I married my husband cause his dad was wealthy... I see now why poor people and money don't jive....but poor people have more fun with!!!!!!!...my time is yours girl anytime you need me.. I'm always watching.
Oh try Rumble In Brighton, Double Talkin' Baby. Played drums in a rockabilly band back then. We had a great time. That music is so fun. Jitterbug city. Girls loved it.
Half & Jai, if y'all never heard a cat howl, it is something serious!! They don't howl like a dog, but damn, it sound extra evil when they do it. And it always, pretty much at night.. cause that's when cats prowl & hunt & get it on. This sound usually comes right before or DURING the latter. And once u hear that, u ain't gon forget it!
I had a male lilac point Siamese who was extremely high strung, and he would set in the middle of my dining room and do that god-awful Siamese yowl/ howl at the window when the moon was full!
I still have my Built for Speed album that I got when it first came out. Glad to find you and see your first experiences with Thomas Sowell, Joan Jett, etc. Priceless, keep it up!
So back in the day if u were cool u referred to other dudes as cats. ie "I know this cat that can hook u up" or "I went to a party with these cats" love u guys. ♥️💯😎
Y’all probably to young to realize but back in the late 70s early 80s there was and underground Rockabilly revival with a bit of a twist. Look at the nostalgia at the time for the 50s. Happy Days, Grease, and even Lenny and Squiggy as characters in Laverne and Shirley. All were 50s references but were weak examples by mainstream media to tap into the zeitgeist of the underground subculture that was revival Rockabilly and punk influenced Psychobilly. The Stray Cats were a real deal example of a longing for an imagined interpretation of a time that was AT THE TIME just a couple of decades past.
Do Rock This Town and Rumble in Brighton by the Cats. Or for that real 50s vibe Gene and Eddie. Brian is one hell of a guitar virtuoso. Some songs he'll jump all over in different keys and make it work. Masterful. YES, long time Stray Cats and Brian Setzer fan. Saw thm in concert, small venue back in 83' Hella good time.
lol remember old looney toon cartoons with the alley cats.. aka stray cats? come on Half, you ain't SO much younger than me to not remember these things :P you 2 always put a smile on my face. thanks, it was one of those days today... you know what i mean?
I remember watching a cartoon as a kid in the late 60's called "Top Cat." Don't recall a whole lot about it, but I do believe the characters were all "stray cats."
The Lyrics aren't literal. Think of the phrase "catting around town". I.E. looking for partners to get it on. He is making the connection to how Cats have that attitude of how good they are no matter the conditions, a certain savoire faire. He's equating himself to that same attitude of a Tom Cat Alleycat.
Love your vids. You two are hilarious. I heard a story about when the Stray Cats were forming the band and they wanted to make that 50s early 60s sound (this was in the 80s) and they looked at pictures of the old bands and realized that the bands were a guitar, a bass and drums. Their whole bib was a throw back to that era. Brian Seltzer, the lead singer, has moved on to big band type of music and is a mean guitarist.
Great tune! Love Them and I love you both!! When are you getting your Patreon back up? Entirely unrelated though y'all should check out "Prejudice" by Tim Minchin! Tim Minchen is amazing!!!
Yep. They can howl. But yowl would probably be a better word for it. Now I'm wondering why Brian Setzer didn't say that. Fun song though. And Rockabilly is always a lot of fun. Great music that started with Elvis & others at Sun Studios in the 50's & comes back around every so often.💙☮💙
Ever have a neighbor that seems to only have one CD and they play it 24 hours a day. It doesn’t even matter if the song is good, it’s just too much...... this is the one. I’m sure everybody has at least one song they’ve just heard too many times
Stray cats were a retro band when I was a kid . Brian Seltzer. The singer an guitarist also went on to be the leader of the Brian Seltzer orchestra. He's a very talented gentleman
I think autocorrect got you….Brian Setzer❤️
Haha, Seltzer.
There was this basketball game, Gainesville High and Ocala Vanguard back in the 80’s.

Yes, I was a proud owner of a very alpha male cat. He was fixed but still went on the prowl every night, and he howled, lol. 😎
Yes, cats sometimes howl too, dogs are just more famous for it. And not every dog howls either. While they are obviously different. canines and felines do have some similarities.

Same, this is my on-repeat song

Try listening to "Rock This Town" by Stray Cats... another good one... also, "Zoot Suit Riot" by The Cherry Poppin' Daddies!!
@@pleutron yes, "Jump, Jive, and Wail" is a Brian Setzer Orchestra fave...
zoot suit riot reminds me of the mask movie for some reason lol
@@susiejo143 cause he wore one in the movie? I’m more reminded of swing music and old cartoons… and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? 🤓
A "cat" was a cool guy back in the day. And a "stray" was a single guy, no money, trying to make it in the world. The song is about a cool guy who doesn't let his circumstances get him down. He is still impressed with himself ... and apparently he thinks the lady cats are too😂❤🎉
Reminds me of my High School Days!! We used this song for our “High School Rocks” fashion show! Back in 1983!!
You've never heard a cat howl?! They are capable of howling. Lol! Love you guys!
"Howling"
Listen to a female in heat or 2 cats ready to fight. They HOWL.
Trust me... cats howl, too, especially when they are in heat...
Another thing like ppl say dawg now back in the 50s they used terms like cool cat , was the terminology . Even though these guys doing rocks a Billy 50s style. The Stray Cats were a band from the 80s doing a 50s style.
Re 'hollowing' at night . .. cats mate at night, with blood-curling screams
It's Rockabilly, if no one has mentioned it.
Stray Cats and the great Brian Setzer! Love ‘em!
Stray Cats are a GREAT rockabilly song
Stray Cats “Rock This Town” 👍🏻
I love Jai's sweatshirt, reminded me of ALL the Richie Rich comics I collected.
My favorite song when I was like 7, still love it.

Brian Setzer is a favorite of mine!
He's a trip with his abilities & creativity!
The fact that I have multiple Stray Cats on my playlist and the honey drillers I am a MEED
You will love it if you see Seltzer live. You'll dance from start to finish. BTW, HOWLING IS NOT VOCALIZING. ITS SOMETHING ELSR SPECIFIC TO BEING A tomcat.
I've loved this song since it was new back in the 80s...great rockabilly band...try Rock This Town, and Sexy & Seventeen...

They were great. React to "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic. One of the greatest Guitar songs of all time
Never did I think I'd hear this song over analyzed to death. Sativa's smokin' where this man's at.
One of the coolest tunes ever. Got cat class and I got cat style! 😸
So back in the day if u were cool u referred to other dudes as cats. ie "I know this cat that can hook u up" or "I went to a party with these cats" love u guys. ♥️💯😎

Ok guys. This song was out in the early 80's. My friends and I used to go to the skating rink. This was one of the songs they played.
This was the first tape I ever asked for and I played this song on repeat on my Fisher Price tape recorder in the school playground 😆
If he were alive I could see Cab Calloway doing this song
I’d love you see you guys react to “The wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald” by Gordon Lightfoot
