Thank the Lord and all family and friends involved for giving us special folks like this gal here. You gave this Mom more help for Halloween than I deserve. I wish you nothing but joy. Keep that energy, our world needs it!
I’m somewhat of a beginner and I have watched this video multiple times and practiced along. Very helpful in perfecting your swirls and tear drops. Thanks Ariel!
Àriel you are a wonderful teacher I appreciate you so much. Its Labor Day in NYC. Kiddie Carnival Time 🎉🎉🎉And I Needed HELP. Spending to much time on 1 person. This lesson helped me tremedously. Thank You😊
Hello. Your face painting is amazing! I'm new to face painting, 3 weeks in, and I am struggling with the lines and tear drop. I also have difficulty with loading my sponge. Lord willing, I'd Ike to become much better because of the smiles it puts on children's faces and as a stream of income. I have an awesome person who has gotten me started, but I need more help. Thank you.
I’m a newbie, I love this video. Sooo helpful!!! I’m only two days deep into practicing face painting and have come across one stroke. I find doing pedals with a wider brush is proving difficult yet I don’t wanna give up lol. Thank you for this video I am now a better at controlling the pressure. 💯💪
As someone who's skilled at watercolor & acrylic painting, I've found it unexpectedly difficult to get started with face painting. I haven't been able to achieve the results I want & lack control in this medium. I kept wondering why I wasn't getting the results I needed...I didn't realize you had to mix the paints this much! Glad I found this video & that you went into detail, & mentioned how it's different from other types of painting!
Ariel, you are truly inspiring and your tutorials are a blessing; just as you are... Your work at parties and festivals are so quickly done, but always so creative & AWESOME!!
Samantha, that is very kind of you. I will start making more design and tutorial videos soon. I've been a bit busy but have been planning some new ones.
What a fabulous tutorial for beginners .. and more experienced painters. The importance of continuing to practice elements such as swirls, teardrops and dots, can't be over emphasised. A lot of great tips. Love your work Ariel.
Hi Ariel, I am a complete newbie snd have been practicing face painting for just 4 months. I have watched many of your tutorials and love your clear explanations. Do you think you could do a video for newbies like me, more of a talk on how to stay motivated and not give up on face painting, especially when we see so many talented artists out there such as yourself, and we sometimes feel overwhelmed or like we are never going to get there.... I want something that I can watch and listen to on days when I don't feel like practicing, or just think it is too hard, or worried at how much money I have already invested in items, and not letting that or my dream go to waste. Thanks in advance!!
Absolutely! I'd be happy to help. Do know that it's hard for everyone. I'll make a beginner video with a few elements that people have been asking for. Just keep practicing.
This is the second time I am watching this video & you shared a tip that stuck with me this time, and I think will help me tremendously. I have been trying to practice my cascading tear drops and wondering why they don't look good. U said, "start the next one half way down." I think that is the key, I was starting them at similar starting points. Thank you so much Ariel! My daughter was telling me yest, "you always watch her!" Yes I do, and thank you! You are very gifted and talented at what you do.
I loved your VIDEO! you do such a BEAUTIFUL THINGS with the BRUSHES! It helped me a LOT! I'm Just STARTED with FACE P. a Month ago, and althoug I'm CLUMPSY with It,😂 I'm really ENJOYING!! I"ll follow you for SURE! and THANK U AGAIN for SHARING your knodledge!!
Thank You for this wonderful video. I have done face painting for years, but really appreciate the tips and hints you give. May you have many more years of success!
I’m new to face painting & this video was extremely helpful! I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned to my work. The description of the different brushes & what they’re best used for was awesome! I would love to see a video on sponges. ❤
I am very new to face painting. I brought some split cakes purely because I like doing things with my hands and I had become bored of colouring in over and over again. So came across some tutorials and here I am. I love this video... you make that line work look super easy,
Thank you! That is the nicest compliment, truly. I've trained people on how to paint since I was 16 years old so between that and working directly with school districts/teachers for the last few years I try to keep in mind a lot of the fundamental teaching methods and principals. Thank you for your videos! I am only thinking about face painting for the moment and came here to see what it entails on the creative end. I’m an experienced painter and face paint seems to have a consistency of gouache so I could manage it I think. 😬 Thanks again, I may be back in other vids!
I have just received some brushes & paints & ready to start practicing...I am so happy to have come across your video. You are a Blessing...Thank you soo much :)
This was very helpful. My daughter and I are just starting face painting and your videos have inspired us. I hope that one day we can master it as well as you. You are very talented! Please do more for beginners.😊
Very Very newbie face painter - just getting supplies right now. Absolutely love your videos. Would love to see very basic beginner videos. Liner brush definitely will be a must have I believe.
Thanks! Feel free to give me more specific suggestions. I am trying to do beginner videos but it's been a while since I was one so it's hard to know what will really help you guys. :)
@@Arielpaints Love all your videos - watch them over and over. I'm trying to get the link ework down right now. And trying to figure out what is really needed to start without buying everything - everything looks so tempting.
Hiii! Thanks for this wonderful video! Id love to see more videos for beginners. Ive just started since i love painting/drawing and I just cant do it with two babies. My 3 year old loves when i paint his face. (We started with colored eye liner lightening bolts and then upgraded). Now im practicing on them all the time.
This has been so informative and helpful, I know so much better what to do and what I am doing wrong. I am doing little parties for friends just for fun but I want to do it well for now and I learned so much from this tutorial! Thanks so much.
Stunning work you could use that board as a picture on your wall its beautiful thank you so much for the help you give .I have learned a lot from your videos x
Thank you. This video made me run over to my kids' art kits and reclaim the liner brushes I'd rejected out of some sets. Wow! I love them now. I also ordered the Loew-Cornell brush you showed and I really really like it. Thanks again.
Thanks SO much I will br trying these I sent it to a young lady who till now has done henna so she's skilled already and we're booked for a face painting job at a local mall already yay so this will deffinatly help us 👍
You're welcome! I'm trying to be better at doing some beginner videos so if there is anything you're confused about please let me know. Thanks for watching.
Very impressed with your guidance. At a very high level, professionally and intensively. Thank you so much for your work spent on creating this great video and for sharing your skills. Suppose this is the best video on this topic.
This was a great tutorial. I am new to face painting, have been watercolor painting for some time. But working with kids is fun! Where do you get your supplies, the board you draw on, any recommendations?
My youngest daughter asks everyday since Halloween if I will draw something cute on her cheek which isnt always appropriate for everyday at school lol! But now that its summer I'm hoping to surprise her with something more fun then Halloweens cheek hearts. I could watch your videos all day, fascinating and so packed with useful tips. Appreciate you making these videos cant wait to put them to use. Best to you~
Loved this video, it’s great to go over the basics again. Would like a video on using pearl one strokes and pearl or metallic paints in general, mine always smear.
My main struggle when doing tear drops for example on a crown is where to put them and placements for them that look nice, also adding leafs to flowers I never know where to place them
Hi thank you so much for this video it came just at the right time for me I have just started out practicing and was beging to give up! This video has given me so much to work on silly things like not holding the brush on and angle! Thank you Ariel, you might make a face painter out if me yet!
Wonderful techique and so helpful for the differences in the various types of paints. I'm a watercolor painter, so I thought face- painting would be easy- peasy. It isn't ! Especially on a squirmy child who is distracted by everything! Thank you so much for the brush tips, and what is the brand name of your water clearing water vessel? Hi! I've never used one but don't like the idea of them. I think they look like you'd have to reload them often and I don't think you'd be able to get varied dots. That's just what I think though...I've never tested one out.
Hello, I am starting to learn face painting and i have found your videos very inspiring. Since the pandemic, do you have any tips to keep the brushes and face paint sanitary to use on multiple children at a party or event?
Hello I'm new here. Love your videos, very helpful. Cannot find the Loew Cornell brush, seems they don't have those anymore. Can you recommend an alternative?
Hi. The old school gold handle brush is gone although they supposedly are being remade I have not used the "new" ones yet. I love all the face painting shop brushes and the blazin brushes.
Hi, thank you so much for your video. I just started learning face painting and loved your tutorial. Please make some video for beginners about boys designs. One of the problems I have is that for example if I draw a flower I don’t know where to draw tear drops or dots. I’m not sure how to make my designs look fancier.
Understandable and that's a great point and idea. It is very hard, in the beginning, to know where to put those teardrops. I'll add that to my list of videos.
This has been very helpful. I am getting ready to retire and have been playing around with face painting for several years for fun but now I am getting asked to do children's birthday parties. I have a sense of how to do a 10 child party pretty well but am not sure what to charge. Any thoughts?
Hi Trish. If you check out my contract video I talked a bit of pricing as well. I also suggest going to face painting groups on Facebook and asking about rates in your area.
This is fantastic. I have watched a few where they sprayed their cakes and it never occurred to me that it could inpact on shaping the brush. Likewise just touching briefly on practicing on transparencies- I was ready to pay out for a practice board (which I will do eventually) but that single comment made me realise I could literally just pay a pound for a few acetate sheets to start out with (although my four kids are usually very willing subjects hehe!). I am currently using Snazaroo but have seen some of the very bold colours which are now making my old friend look a bit faded and dull in comparison. Have you any favourites that are good value for a just for fun painter? Thank you so much for these tutorials, it is so interesting to watch! Xxxx
Thank you for your message. I started practicing on a cheap transparency sheet...it's a great, cheap option to begin. Keep in mind though that they are VERY slick. It does not mimic skin but is a good reusable way to work on muscle memory. I'd grab one of those kids first for sure 😊
Hello, I'm a beginner face painter and just came across this video. I can't wait to practice these techniques. I just want to know the best online place to purchase paints and brushes. Thanks!!!
I'm waiting on my very first supplies to arrive and your videos are making me so excited to get started! Just one question, when you've loaded your brush and youre on the job and you need a bit more paint to finish say some line work or swirls etc do you wash your brush and use the same one or do you get a completely new brush to finish? Or something else 😆?? Thank you :)
This video was so helpful, Thank you so much for sharing all these tips, I really enjoyed practicing as I listened! I have a couple questions though. When I was making tear drops over the flowers, the result was not as white as yours. The white was mixing with the colors underneath even though I waited for the flowers to be dry and I tried different consistencies of white (more or less watery-creamy) but it still happened. Also, when you are finished, do you let the white cake dry like that or do you nee to wipe off all the extra activated paint? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer everyone.
When going over paint with more paint you do want to make sure to work quickly and use thick white paint. That being said the chances of it mixing are always high so I always tell people to think of face paint in color blocking and not layering. If you can prevent layering do so. If your cake is VERY watery then let is dry out or remove the extra water. Otherwise it will settle into the center of the cake and cause the paint to get slimy.
I'm a new face painter and your videos are like having a friend teach you step-by-step. Thank you so much. My question is regarding hygiene. I've been trying to establish a good hygiene routine and have read what seem to be impossible standards such as never reload your brush when painting a face because it will contaminate your paint... and load a second clean brush if you need paint more. One article I read the author said she has more than 100 brushes that she takes with her on a job. With good brushes costing between $4 and $8 each, this sounds like insanity. I am so relieved to see someone at your level of professionalism seems unconcerned about re-loading a brush while painting one face. Can you share your hygiene ideas? I'm sure they are much more sensible and achievable than ones I've been reading..
Thank you. Yea...there are lots of "ideal sanitary standards" out there on the internet. It's not realistic for me and I simply use as much clean water as I can, new sponges for each kid but I don't dip my brush in alcohol or anything like that. I'll do a video on this...it's just so controversial and I've tried to avoid it but I get the question WAY too much. Promise I'll do it soon. 😊
Hi! I dont know if you tell in the video, maybe I missed it, but, what kind and size of brush do you use for teardrops? And what brand of paint are you using for this video? Thank you very much for this amazing video.
First of all, thanks for being so warm and so approachable. I loved this video and yes I would love more beginner videos. Like, when u guys sponge for a butterfly and then just do swirls and tear drops. They look awesome. Is there a rule to the way it's done? Because when I try it, they look horrible :(

If you go to any online face paint store and look at practice boards you'll find these plastic boards.
where did you get your water brush cleaner thingy? that's cool it gives you fresh water so you're not working with dirty brush water!

Never thought to use a script brush for starburst and tear drops. I have several and always just leave them at home.
Also would be great for unicorn hair detailing. Adding these back in
I'm so glad to hear that! I love them.
Hey Arilel I love your videos!! What is the practice board you are using? where do we get it?
Thank you! I use the Sally Anne Lynch boards.
Hello, I'm a beginner face painter and just came across this video. I can't wait to practice these techniques. I just want to know the best online place to purchase paints and brushes. Thanks!!!
Hello! I have an amazon buying guide but I also like sillyfarm or the face painting shop in the UK.
I probably didn't say but I usually use either a 6 or 8 for teardrops.
Where did you get that automatic water container?
First of all, thanks for being so warm and so approachable. I loved this video and yes I would love more beginner videos. Like, when u guys sponge for a butterfly and then just do swirls and tear drops. They look awesome. Is there a rule to the way it's done? Because when I try it, they look horrible :(
Thank you VERY much. That's sweet of you. If you want to PM me on facebook and send me a picture of your butterfly I'll take a look. Maybe I can help.
Where is that thing that flushes that you were using to sonde the brush? I didn’t see that item in your store.
The rinse well. I have a video all about that product too.
