I loved all your tips! My grandmother had a "boho" vibe in her style. I've always admired her for that. (She passed away years ago) Now that I'm getting older, I feel like I'm following in her footsteps. She never dressed like the other grandmas (no polyester pants or clunky shoes) always looked classy too with her oversized jacky-o type sunglasses and she drove an older camaro, lol! I miss her ❤🙂✌

I am so so so glad to see you address people wearing black. I first started watching another lady on here and the first thing she did was tell everyone to go get black dress and black clothes and I responded to her that black clothes don't look good on most people and she talked to me like I was an idiot. So the idea that you actually addressed it and demonstrated it was wonderful. Thank you so much. I love watching your videos

Paula Grima but as she points out, it actually drains all the colour from her skin, and makes her chin disappear. The tan, and more turquoise blue, brightened her skin tone.
I think many people think black makes blonde hair or light eyes pop, but it really does nothing for most skin tones, especially warm skin tones. I’m blonde, and it drains colour from my face and makes the darkness under my eyes look darker (b/c of shadowing).
I’m cool toned and fair, and navy has replaced black for me.

@@gailkshaw when she had the pink or blue next to her face I noticed the colors not her lovely features. The brightness of the colors were so close to her face so my attention was drawn to the brightness. Her eyes appeared small. Their color seemed dark & my attention didn't catch the their true color. The blue was close but not distracting from her bc it flattered her lightness allowing her to be seen; the contrast revealing her beautiful eyes. Had the colors been held further away from her face the appearance could result in a different thought all together.

While I agree wearing black is tough, especially as we age as it may not flatter our skin tone, I would say you actually look better with the black and the blue. Black really only suits 'winters' (striking cool colouring). It makes everyone in other three seasonal palettes look like death warmed up. Good point to make, therefore. Can't understand why Jennifer Anniston and Stevie Nicks wear black so much and why our Queen wears harsh black patent leather accessories (which are far too harsh for her). They are all summer colouring, like you are Christie. It is so unflattering and harsh. For evening wear a cooler summer might just get away with a LBD with nude tights and strappy sandals if it is a softer toned matt black (almost deep charcoal grey) and the cut sits well below your face (low cut) rather than just under the chin.

I’m onboard with no black for years now; got tired of well meaning people asking me if I “felt ok,” or was I “tired” every time I wore black! But once again, I am confounded that after your comments about warm vs cool colors and undertones, etc., you appear to be wearing a very cool fuchsia/pink? Frankly, your beautiful full coverage beat could stand up to black, and did, IMO. I took your point on jawline def, but otherwise the black - again WITH this makeup - looked fine to me; very dramatic. I just continue to be baffled by color explanations online (though I do have a grip on what works for me after long study!). Cheers!

A lot of colour explanations online are misleading because many have no formal training in it.
The colour I’m wearing is a warmer base (perhaps the lighting makes it look cooler to you?). The black is very washing me - makeup or not! Very happy to stick to my warmer shades. 💖
It’s amazing what a difference colours can make!

I am a super cool undertone. My entire wardrobe is black, white + gray with an occasional pop of teal blue or toast. I used to love yellow t shirts, but I'm starting to realize that color doesn't work on me. I cannot wear even neutral foundations. I often need the lightest coolest colors. Black is MY color.

I think black looks really good on you and makes you're beautiful blue eyes pop even more I really dont think it makes you look bad at all maybe it's the style of the shirt but the color black looks good on you in my opinion....and everything else I agree on ..:)..

Rocking my natural now. Silver/ gray. Don’t need a bra😂. Itty bitty. High and tight at 54. Taking out my toxic breast implants was the best gift to myself. A style mistake is trying to be what you aren’t. It backfires onto your health.

Im 62 and I stopped coloring my hair last year. White and gray here, too. I love it now. I wear lighter and brighter colors- blues, lavender, light grays, cream, autumn oranges and greens (hazel eyes) but navy, and red, too, silver jewelry, and stylish flats, light makeup. I feel younger and more comfortable now than I did before going gray.

Wow! You look great in black! Elegant and fashion forward. I think black can look great on anyone. The key is the accessories ( scarves and jewelry) plus the neckline and style.
    Just my opinion.

I agree with almost all your advice! Especially the shoes! Which makes me sad because why can't anyone make a decent looking comfort shoe? (And I have some hideous ones!) The only nit I want to pick is your lavender/gray hair. I super loved that look on you - it was so glamorous and exciting looking! No X on that photo, girl!!

I am an in shape 60 year old man and i had to stop wearing black..gray...tan because as you age your coloring looks washed out in these dull colored shirts.......i wear polo shirts that are in solid blues, greens, yellow and other warm colors and i keep patterns very minimal and small. No big plaids or anything boxy. Simplicity with color....

LOL on bra size! I’ve gone to speciality boutiques and even La Senza and when they measure me they always give me the wrong size as I have a barrel rib cage which is very uncommon for women. It also means a lot of things don’t fit or hang correctly as I don’t have a standard body shape. The irritating part is they will argue with me and insist they are correct even when I explain my body shape and then have to go and show them what my size really is. I finally found a boutique that is willing to listen and work with me rather than against.

I'm supposed to be a clear spring and I've been told I can wear black, but before the colors were broken down to subcategories, I was considered a spring into fall and never ever wore black. I wear some black and white, but I'm not sure if either is truly flattering. I'll have to try to analyze them as you did with your colors.

    • @ChristieRessel
      @ChristieRessel  5 лет назад

A spring into fall is a warm spring - that’s different from clear spring (that’s a blend between winter and spring). If you’re a clear spring, than yes, a warm black would look great. A warm spring would avoid black - browns would be an ideal neutral.

@@ChristieRessel Thank you! I colored my hair to a dark auburn and the brighter warm colors seemed to work best on me. Can a person's color change with hair color change? I do love brown, but for the past few years, it has been hard to find. I'm glad to see that it is making a comeback this fall season.

Your palette won't change with hair colour change. If your colours have been done properly, it'll look gorgeous across the board.
