I just found you! Love this video. Was wanting to know if you plan on doing another class on "Becoming a Personal Stylist"? Would love to learn from you? I seen a question someone asked, but no answer to it, she had asked how do you arrange your closet when you have modules within your clothes capsule in your closet? Do you keep your pants togethers, shirts together etc..? Also do you have a video on accessories? And what about adding a few trendy pieces to your modules? Yes or no? Can't wait to watch all of your of videos. Thank you

I'll have another class in the spring on becoming a stylist. My next online course will be the "how to find your personal style" course that will open in a couple of weeks. As for the other questions, I've answered those in other closet related videos on my channel (too much to type here). xo

You can definitely add trendier pieces but won't be the majority of the capsule wardrobe; and i think it'd help you to stand even and show your own personality :-)

Finally, a realistic and functional breakdown of how to build a capsule wardrobe for real people which includes COLOR and patterns. Excellent explanation of how to actually start building a capsule with "modules" around lifestyle vs. the usual "wear neutrals" and the "look at my 30 black, grey, white, denim clothes for my SoCal-work-from-home-lifestyle".

As someone who loves the idea of capsule wardrobes but lacks money to actually go and buy clothes, the idea of modules really appeals to me. I always get excited about creating a capsule wardrobe but then when I create a list of what I would need to buy the excitement turns into depression when I realise how much it will cost me. I think it would be a lot easier for me to look at what I currently own as a starting point and add one or two additional pieces using this method. Then when I save enough money I could do it again for another module. Bit by bit, piece by piece.

    • @topknot3747
      @topknot3747 6 лет назад +33

You definitely don't need to go out and buy more items to make a "capsule" wardrobe. The whole point is to save money & time (less items, better quality // less wasting time getting ready, more time spent on what you love) so "shop within your closet" and build from there!

    • @WitchyMamaof2

topknot unfortunately my wardrobe is actually lacking. I have recently finished a university degree, which means I spent a long time buying minimal clothing. A lot of my wardrobe is either overly loved, or not appropriate for my new profession. So yes, for me, buying a few new pieces will be a better option.

I have to say this was the MOST helpful video on capsule wardrobes I have ever watched. After all the reading I had done, I felt so overwhelmed by this task of picking just "one style forever". That I had to limit myself to 5 shirts, two pants etc etc when I was really interested in some vastly different styles and colors. This honestly makes me feel insanely better, and empowered, to figure out what I want to do with my wardrobe

They're lots of wardrobe organizing apps for both Android and iPhone users, like Pureple, My Closet(that's the one I use). You take pictures of your clothing items and upload it to the app while categorizing them. Then you can see everything you have laid down in front of you and create looks or let the app create looks for you based on the type of clothing items you choose. Then you can add it to the calendar this way you keep track of what you wore on each day. I found it extremely helpful.
Also I wear a lot of neutrals and when I get bored I just slap a red lipstick on. That's my tip :)

  • @averagetrailertrash
    @averagetrailertrash 6 лет назад +10

Yes for prints! ♥ Printed vintage blazers are my top layer go-to -- they add a bit of fun and set the tone/colors for the rest of the outfit. And I love the module concept; I've unintentionally made modules for each color scheme I wear (pale neutral, soft pastels, and jewel tones). All three look great together, so there's tons of options for far less closet space.
It's larger than the traditional capsule wardrobe (I wear alternative fashions with lots of layers), and it's helping me limit what I buy & keep. Everything needs a purpose! No more looking at piles of clothes and going, "but I have nothing to wear."

I have watched many videos to purge my wardrobe and build a wardrobe that works for my lifestyle. I work from home, travel for my job, belong to several social clubs that have specific colors, active at my church (where I don't wear pants), attend a lot of social functions (formal and semi-formal) with my hubby. This is the first video that gave me permission to have more than one capsule wardrobe. I also LOVE the module concept. Thank you and well done.

Just discovered this channel. Gotta say, this is one of the best capsule wardrobe videos I’ve seen...really like the “module” concept. AND I like that you start with a print and use some color! A great trick I’ve used that dovetails with this is to pick tops that are distinctly different from each other...so you don’t look like you are wearing the same thing everyday. So a print, a color, and either a different color or a neutral would fit the bill! Well, I just subscribed, so gotta watch more of your content. Thanks!!!

I LOVE this!! I have wanted to do a capsule wardrobe for a while, but couldn't figure out how to do it without ditching my entire wardrobe and starting over. The module technique encouraged me to go through my current wardrobe, and I was able to create TWO modules from what I have, and I can have 3 or maybe even 4 if I buy a few extra pieces. What I was so excited about is I got rid of TONS of things that have been languishing in my closet for years, and I even figured out how to wear 3 pieces of clothing I've never or hardly ever worn. Thank you!!!

    Well Done!
I started using a capsule wardrobe system more than a decade ago (when i entered the professional work space). I started with 8 pieces of clothing in my first module.
To this day I still look at my schedule and check that the clothing in my capsule roughly match the percentages of my schedule for those activities.
My current wardrobe has 29 clothing pieces and 3 pairs of shoes, my winter coat and boots. The capsule wardrobe has worked for me for over a decade because of these types of tips you are giving.

This was what I was looking for!! I use the shutdown these days to declutter and organize my closet. I use the App my closet as well. It's very helpful. But I struggled a bit with tips like: These basics you def need" I have a part time Office Job (casual) , 4 Teens and am always on my bike. I love to run, walk, skate. I have very few options to go out and dress up. So I def need funktional pieces, sporty tops, blouses and jumpers, which also work in the office. So Good, that you said to consider the Lifestyle first!! And I loooove colorful /Statement pieces.
So good to hear, that I can still havea capsule closet 😀😍🌹

Hi Christie, I am totally blown away by how well you’ve explained the mechanics behind building capsule wardrobes. As someone who has pretty serious body image issues, I tend to only feel good in very few, selected pieces. Christie-Thank you for breaking this down, I have tried capsule wardrobes without much success. It seems so so obvious (mindblown) now that I hear it, but I have SAHM-wear, Clean and tidy the yard-wear, Home improvement-wear, Out with friends/Date-night-wear, Workwear, special occasion-wear (weddings and funerals) and sportswear etc. It is no wonder that I felt like pairing down wasn't working, because it really only gave me a very stylized sliver of the actual life I lead (attempting to be stylish while painting the kitchen or cleaning the toilet isn't really worth a blog post-LOL) but it wasn't clicking when I was looking at the outfit combos I was seeing online. All I can say is my daughter would be telling me: DUH, mom! right now if she were here! Thanks for snapping me out of it!!! I especially love that my modules can be based on any number of bottoms to start and then add the proportionate number of tops.....

This is probably the most useful advice I have come through, especially building module. Most vids just introduce pieces or just very general advice.

Christie, I’ve never heard a capsule wardrobe described this way but it’s a wonderful way to shop your existing clothes and figure out what you still need and what’s got to go! Thanks for the video!

I am watching this having just discovered that my husband's and my entire spring/summer wardrobe was ruined by a flooded basement! Bang for buck is the name of the game, so THANK YOU for putting this together (even though it was a while ago). ❤️

Thank you soooo much for sharing.i have absolutely nothing to wear and I found that I don’t like my clothes. I’m new to this, I am turning 21 soon and come from a wardrobe full of very colorful childish and plain clothes. So I got rid of everything I can’t match with other new items so it encourages me to put together a more mature clothing with a capsule wardrobe.

I love how you say it could be this or that for the modules rather than these are your basic wardrobe must-haves. Quite frankly, a lot of capsule wardrobe can be a little bit daunting and disheartening especially for someone who lives in a hot and humid climate. We only have two seasons, that's hot and rainy season, with a short cool weather from December to February. The only time I can layer clothing is when we're going to airconditioned buildings/facilities or during those cool weather months. I figured having more sleeveless and breathable tops or dresses, and maybe good shorts, skirts will allow for maybe a light layering outer pieces like light blazer, light cardigans, vests, or even a loose jean jacket. I'll definitely try to incorporate your tips in to building my wardrobe.

Thanks for telling me I don't have to get rid of everything but 30ish items to make a capsule wardrobe. I love my closet but always ended up wearing the plainest outfits out for fear of clashing items. Plus, it's not stretched out - under fifteen minutes. Thank you so much

I would have paid big money for someone to teach me the module concept! That's it - I"m done. I totally get it. This season will be my second capsule wardrobe - last season changed the game for me forever. This time it will be much simpler because I have the module formula. Thank you so much - you've genuinely added so much value right here!!!

I love the module idea. That and the fact that you use prints and colors makes this one of my favorite capsule wardrobe videos. I also love seeing a more adult wardrobe, since many capsule wardrobes are super casual and neutral.

I love the module idea - I feel like this is what I've seen in several 'how to pack light to travel' videos without the presenters breaking it down so clearly as you do. I'm the opposite of a minimalist, but I'm going to try your approach the next time I travel anywhere!

I started cleaning out my closet and buying a few basic pieces that I was missing, but still seem to struggle. Thank you for explaining color and prints as well as different activities throughout the week! I love "loud" clothes but am trying to downsize my wardrobe. At one point last year, I accidentally created a capsule wardrobe in my suitcase and happily lived out of it for a month and a half, which made me see that I don't need nearly so many clothes. However, it has been a little tricky since I have so many different interests that require different kinds of clothes, plus my own natural love of color and prints that tends to bog me down. I think this video will really help me make significant progress with simplifying! Thank you!!!

Having seen a few youtubes re capsule wardrobes, I was still perplexed about the concept and how to put it into action in my closet. This video is what "lit the lightbulb" (finally) in my head. The concept of modules is genius and made all the difference. Thank you for your inspiration, creativity and savvy style sense Christie! I always walk away having learned something valuable, applicable and new after watching your videos. I feel uplifted knowing that I am not the only one out there with need for some "closet remedies," and your expertise is exactly what gives me that booster shot of confidence that I can do it!
Question: are some hangers better than others? I see a lot of variations out in the market place from velvet grip to thick plastic ones. Granted, some are better for "air drying" clothes than others and some are thinner to optimize closet space, but overall, is there a "best of the best" hanger out there? Keep up the great work! Style on!

So happy you enjoyed it and learnt something new!
For hangers, I personally love the velvet ones as nothing slips on them and they're quite thing so they don't take up too much room. xo
