    I’ve been guilty of buying clothes and shoes for a life I don’t have so I think of them as something beautiful to look at in my wardrobe just for me to enjoy. Great video.

      Did that habit change ? i've been like that a bit & i did feel like i needed so much more space to store my clothing & shoes. I'd be curious to know more^^

      I have made a conscious decision to buy more mindfully this year and have bought very little. Like heaps of people, I’ve been decluttering my wardrobe and have found gems I forgot about. Some I have moved on by selling others, I’m keeping for me. My biggest downfall is evening shoes. I love them but rarely go out so as Christie suggested, I’m going to wear them during the day which is a great idea as you can see them much better in the daylight!

    I bought the most amazing Swarovski crystal Cinderella high heels ever. I was sad, because they are really freaking amazing, but for very special occation. I decided to created special occasions LOL Now at least once a week I am wearing them while I am vacuuming, cooking or watching TV and I feel fabulous ;)

    I've finally realized that jeans and graphic tees fit my lifestyle perfectly. I focus more on funky accessories, shoes and makeup now because I'm more likely to get dressed up a little more and feel great at Home Depot & the grocery store knowing when I get home I can take off the earrings, throw on my muck boots and go about tending the livestock without having to entirely change my outfit. I feel a lot better about how I dress now that I'm not hung up on what I could be wearing if I had an entirely different life!

    • @KawaiigurlTomo

      Great way to approach it, i do find outerwears and hats to be great to transform an outfit without doing much either; i'm a sucker for styling yet not spending hours doing so lol^^

    I’ve been thinking about this whole wardrobe thing a lot lately. I think for me the thing is to grow up( I’m 65!) and admit to myself that I have no need for many of my clothes. I’ve been doing wishful shopping for years as if buying the clothes would make the occasion appear. It’s like when I cleaned out my kitchen and discovered I had 6 pie plates! No one needs 6 pie plates ! Now my kitchen is fun to cook in . I want my closet to be like that.

    As to dressing for one’s current lifestyle - for me reaching semi-retirement has really changed what I actually wear. I have been parting with items that I absolutely loved, put good money into, and needed during various points in my career. It helps to purge those items if you have a good friend who wants and can use them. Even after paring down all the suits, I still am hanging on to pieces that will be worn very infrequently now. I guess this is a process.

    • @TheDriftwoodlover
      @TheDriftwoodlover 5 лет назад

      I am nearing retirement and doing the same. I agree it's a process and seem to get rid of things in layers. I'm also trying to embrace the capsule concept.

    rofl. i have one to two bras that fit at any given time. at a 42H and being low income, buying new bras don't take priority. so as long as it doesn't break or the wire doesn't pop thru, i'm going to wear one for a year or more.

    What you said about oversized clothes is so TRUE! I’m petite & used to buy small or even medium tops & wondered why I was feeling grumpy! I started buying extra small tops (Nordstrom usually fits me well) & I look like I’ve dropped 10 pounds! Your advice is perfect & so very helpful! I’m pretty sure I downsized after watching one of your videos about 1-2 years ago!

    • @KawaiigurlTomo
      @KawaiigurlTomo 5 лет назад +2

      I have a similar shape too; and used to buy baggier pieces until i realized that what i saw in the mirror was not a reflection of what i truly wanted to project into the world. That did change but wearing looser clothes could be great when layering and playing with your proportions. I do that more now ^^

I worst for me is keeping my best clothes for special events and in a results some pieces are left and never worn because the event doesnt come (a lot of excuses - weather, sickness, iam tired, busy or i put or loos a weight and in a result clothes i really like is out of day now, i reapat it all the time :(

  • @melanieholmes5022
    @melanieholmes5022 5 лет назад +16

    It's a nice world to think you can hold out and the perfect item will eventually happen but unfortunately that's not always the case. Sometimes you need to buy short term pieces to fill a gap and replace them when the perfect one comes along. Maybe in the US it's easier, but in Australia our shopping options are pretty limited so finding a perfect piece is rare, not regular and I window shop a lot.

    • @lisafeldmann9863
      @lisafeldmann9863 5 лет назад +6

      It also depends on your size. As plus sized, I often have to settle because there aren't several varieties of a piece to choose from.

    • @KawaiigurlTomo
      @KawaiigurlTomo 5 лет назад +1

      Have you considered online shopping ? it could be beneficial when locally is limited; i live in Canada and i do feel like you : we don't have as many options so i always do my best to venture online lol^^

    • @melanieholmes5022
      @melanieholmes5022 5 лет назад +3

      @@KawaiigurlTomo yes, I do most online because I have small children. Unfortunately it's still very limited. More and more places offer shipping to Australia but then if it doesn't work it often cost 1/2 the value of the item to return it so not worth it.

    Really helpful to hear this as a woman who is carrying more weight than I would like. I have in the past bought clothing simply because I could get in it. Some years later I have come to the realization that, absolutely yes - no matter your size or shape, hold out for the pieces that feel fantastic and fit perfectly! Thank you for the lovely and helpful video.

      It's always a great way to bring some originality to your day looks too; sequins can be a good one when paired with something much more casual (tee-shirt or jeans) but it always depends. What kind of bling would you love to try during the day but wasn't sure about ?

    To hammer home the alterations point: I bought some basic crew neck tees in prints I love to wear for summer, but the torso was too wide for me on all of them, and because of this, the curved hem stuck out in a point at my sides! The solution? I got them taken in, now they fit exactly the way I want them too, and I never take them off 😂

    I’m so glad you mentioned under garments.❤️ 🥰 I love Pinterest for inspiration... now that I’ve retired and on a budget I only now buy what I need I’m not one to buy off sale racks because the sign says 60 or 80 % off, I feel it’s a reason it’s on sale although I have found a very few items I like on sale. I wear only comfy clothes, I have gotten rid of business suits anything I haven’t wore over a year so now mostly everything I have I love and LOVE is the magic word for my closet wardrobe and it’s that way for my makeup as well and if I don’t absolutely love it it’s gone😂and I thank you for sharing💕✨💕

However, The majority of my time out is spent at doctor's offices (about 2-3 days per week as we take care of my parents as well). I no longer can wear higher than about a one inch heel. I would like to find something more stylish than my yoga pants/jeans and a cotton shirt with tennis shoes for date night with my husband that. I am plus size, smaller on top and rounder in the middle (somewhere inbetween pear and apple shape). Suggestions?

    I guess I feel that as a person living in a small Midwest town a lot of these tips would make me look overdressed, trying too hard, which is not my vibe. Wearing a rhinestone clutch in the middle of the day just would look OTT here. What do you guys think about this?

    • @ChristieRessel
      @ChristieRessel  5 лет назад +2

      LOL I didn't say it had to be rhinestones (I showcased a basic white clutch as an option also). Any clutch; regular or bling is an option IF people want to. Fashion is about doing what speaks to you -- no need to wear anything that doesn't resonate.

      I’ve decided to dress up more when I go out...even to the grocery store. I never dropped the baby weight (he’s thirty four) and people really do treat you differently if you look like you’ve just spent the day pulling weeds and you are overweight on top of that. I have some fun or pretty things and I’m not going to wait anymore for special occasions to wear them.

    Thank you so much! I just found you and love what you have to say!! I am turning 70 soon and I am thin (5’5” and 115 lb.) I wonder what type of underwear I should be wearing. I look good in skinny jeans but I usually wear below the hip tops, so maybe it doesn’t matter but I was just wondering. Any suggestion would be so appreciated! You exude beauty! Great job!💕

    Many recommendations for replacing items are based on having more money to spend. A lot of us don't have more than a few dollars to spend on items like bras.

    Wish you'd explain how to buy shapewear. I don't have a small waist but I have small hips, I don't seem to be able to get shapewear that fits

      Dee Ferry my suggestion ... be glad that you have small hips.. as far as “ shapewear”, is your goal to disguise or downplay a larger waistline? If so, there are some helpful tips about body types, how to choose fashion to flatter , as an example, an “ apple “ body type... a friend of mine has the apple type shape.. it’s more rounded in the center or waistline- clothing can help disguise things that you want to downplay ... bra fitting videos can be found on RUclips , too. Simply use key word search like “ tips on buying shapewear for small hips - larger waistline”... Pinterest is also full of ideas and fashions, too. Clothing that fits well can sometimes give the exact look you want.

    Can you add wear shoes that don't fit too small or big or too high. Yesterday I was at the mall and saw a young 20 something or teen. She looked good, but her heals where so high..it looked like it was the first time walking in heals. She was holding on to her guy so she would not fall. I felt bad for her. I wanted to take her aside and her her a lesson. She looked awkward and a bit unsure so I didn't want to insult her. She would have rocked the out fit in shorter heels or Sandles. Not the first time I have seen this, while I was out.

      shaily J If you must wear a looser top (which is not always unflattering, despite how it kind of sounded on this video!), make sure the shoulders and sleeves fit properly and consider a half tuck or a knot (depending on type of shirt). Basically: wear a shirt that’s supposed to be a looser fit, rather than buying your tops way too big and just letting them hang off of you. Also make sure to balance with a more fitted bottom piece.

      It can be difficult to find yourself finding fitted pieces yet feeling totally confident it, i totally understand. What i'd suggest is to play with layers. When having a rectangular shape, you want to create curves without accentuating those you have too much. So you can for example wear a looser top but choosing to having a slightly structured blazer : it'll redefine but with not too much accent. Second thing might be to get high waisted bottoms too^^

      If you have a muffin top, usually the tshirt isn’t the issue but actually the pants. Wear a higher waist.

    I love wearing colorful
    And bling outfit mixing and matching for work. I’m not from USA so I noticed in the States women shy away from wearing nice color and playful outfits. Too much grays and blacks. Thank you💖💖💖💖💖

      That_Lid •-• I’m from the Pacific Northwest and in my sixties. I’m also married to an Asian man. My sister in laws from Asia could not understand why my Caucasian sister in law and I only wore dark colors on our bottom half’s in the summer and dark colors in the winter. That’s the way we were brought up and it’s hard to stop. Most of us don’t paint our houses inside or out in bright colors. You can usually tell when someone isn’t from around this area by their bright clothing in winter or house colors. I had a German friend who wore a lot of neon and I could tell it was her when I’d spot a flash of color at the other end of a store or mall. Maybe we are wearing colorful under garments. 🤫😆

      Marty Maloney
      I grew up in Ethiopia where literally vibrant colorful clothing was cultural norm. Houses painted with multiple bright colors. Wearing grey and black I feel not myself
      But when I wear some colors I feel very warm welcoming and cheerful
      We all need little color in our lives to bright up our surroundings
      Thank you Marty!
