      Take Galloglas over Vikings...they were something the Vikings were not, a standing professional mercenary force, and were technically descendants of the Vikings...a fusion of the Norse-Gael. Also German Landsknechts and Swiss Pike were also very badass.

    • @Nortrix87
      @Nortrix87 3 года назад +5

      @@kevinmurphy65 And who do you think the Galloglas were?
      Viking is just the name we all today agree is the common name for Scandinavians of the time, was one of many back then. Depending on who mentioned them they got different name. Rus, Varangians in the east. Norse, Vikings, Danes, Fingall, Dubgall, Ostmen, Normans, and yes Galloglas was the name of the hybrid Viking-Gaelic. Varangian guard have a far bigger reputation than the Galloglas btw.

    • @kevinmurphy65
      @kevinmurphy65 3 года назад

      @@Nortrix87 well the galloglas were not viking. The 'vikings' ended centuries before so no the galloglas were not Scandinavian but by this time Scots with a hefty Norse admixture.. They spoke Gaelic not Norse. Considered themselves Gaelic by culture, not Scandinavian.

    • @Nortrix87
      @Nortrix87 3 года назад

      @@kevinmurphy65 Well im not going to take away any pride here. And yes the "Viking age" was over at the time they had their name. Galloglas stands for "foreign" Geals. In Ireland they were also called Ostmen that means eastmen translated from norse. Foreigners adopting gealic language but Huscarl fighting. Was the same with Normans in France. Keept the fighting spirit but adopted the local language etc.

    • @treycpa2431
      @treycpa2431 3 года назад

      I think the ppl of Carthage would out rank Vikings in the sea. And I think the Africans would out rank “Legioneers” as well, especially when you consider the fact that Romans were taught how to fight by North Africans and in retrospective to being taught how to fight Romans were almost completely ineffective against Africans, and Asians as well. Romans were only dominant vs other European armies.
      The ppl of Carthage I believe are given credit for teaching the handling of the sea and they traveled the seas and dominated the seas for a very long period of time.
      I also think that the Mongols vs Africans would be an interesting battle in open field battle because both were strong during the same period of time and neither was able to expand into one another’s land (at least from what I have read or has been made known to me). The Mongols empire actually stretched well into Eastern Europe, but they never won a battle in Africa, or a battle of any significance.

The phalanx was the best military formation in history and was put to use very well. With that said the mongols would probably defeat them with the tactics they used depending on the situation or terrain.

      范楚漳,環境先知,Prophet of Environment:
      The best Warriors of all time are the Red Guards 紅衛兵。 During. China ‘s 🇨🇳 Revolution of 1960’s to 1970’s even the almighty Chinese People Liberation Army, who had defeated the United Nation and USA, were very afraid of the “Red Guards.” The Red Guards had fiercely invaded one major city after the others, arresting one important official after the others. The Chinese PLA had no choice but to leave the Red Guides 紅衛兵 alone and alone them to do whatever they please.
      The following are very fierce individual Chinese Warriors:

    Man a truly skilled group with a phalanx that can consistently change formation on command is such a devastating weapon. Imagine just seeing them come at you maybe at first they seem like easy pickings but suddenly there upon you and have barely lost any men. Just hearing the commands shouted as they strike into your men and in between your shields as people start panicking and losing formation the formation changes and finally there in the middle of the battle just wreaking havoc. Then another command shouted and they disperse falling upon anyone left standing.

    Gallowglass from Scotland which was a mixture of Viking and Pict and then went to Ireland and England for the start of the Foreign Legion as mercenaries for hire. Eventually the Pics become the Scots but still an elite fighting force.

    The mongols, at the end they splintered into several groups and thus lost momentum and power, but when united they were an unstoppable force and proved it by forging the largest empire in the history of mankind. They have beaten the Chinese, Persians, Turks, Slavs, Indian and many more and moved into Europe by beating the knights. The Horde was fearsome, merciless and a scourge to behold.

    Not all vikings were warriors, Viking isn't a people. And we don't have any evidence of the berserkers you describe.

      Well we do know that there was som warrios that went berserk in battel, and that some of these people were used as bodyguards for the jarls or kings, but you are right, vikings are not a people.

      @@user-xc9fj6vz9v yes, there are mentions of warriors going berserk but there is no mention of Berserkers as a type of warrior or group of warriors. Not the same thing.

      The Maori went toe to toe with the biggest superpower of the day,they were part timers against full time professional soldiers,they were outnumbered 5/1.The British had the most advanced weapons with the biggest cannons at the time,they had the worlds first rifles,an endless supply of munitions.The British had the worlds first telegraph for communications they also had naval ships,the Maori could only have a couple of thousand warriors at any given time in the field.Around the same time the British used 30,000 troops and 25,000 troops to conquer China and India and the biggest cannons they used there were 15 mm the cannons against the Maori were 15 mm to 110 mm and the British had to use 22,000 troops plus Maori tribes loyal to the crown in the first war the British were out thought and out engineered in the second war they were out fought and out smartered all against the most minority race on the planet who were the most lethal hand to hand fighters or at least one of in the history of mankind.The Zulu,the Gurkhas,the Sikh,the Apache all outnumbered the British the Maori didn’t,so definitely the Maori should be on this list.The Maori were some of the biggest and strongest peoples of the time,they were just as berserk as the Viking berserker and they had the fighting statergies of the Spartans but they had a better diet,they also and still do eat natural steroids,they are stoic,intelligent,cunning,ferocious,agile,athletic,staunch,honourable,and brilliant war strategies not bad for a Stone Age people they definitely deserve to be on the list.
