Imagine: The final month of 2020, and the entire sky just turned into this. All you see up above is the floating red glowing cubes and the sounds of the never ending abyss pierces your ears...
I remember one time I was home alone with my mom, my brother had a few consoles and the ps2 was his main one. We both used it and played with it constantly, it was all I really cared about lol, one time while he was at school, I decided to play on his ps2 without him for the first time, I turned on the TV and turned on the PlayStation, I wasn’t sure how to insert games and use it cause my brother was always the one who would operate it, the red screen came on and I was scared shitless, what made it worse, was that next to our gaming room was a glass door, and the glass door had 0 lighting, so it was pitch black 24/7, so the rsod mixed with the scariest part of the house scared the living hell out of me, and I screamed for mom. My brother was to blame, and he got grounded
I snuck to the living room to play games late one night as a kid and I got this screen when my Final Fantasy X disc wouldn’t read. I just went right back to bed...with the light on.
Strangely enough, i'm browsing a playlist of errors from video games and consoles, and this was the only error that didn't scare me so far. Edit: 11 months later, i take it back. This is scary.
What was it with this generation and creepy insert disc menus? I mean, the GameCube also used to freak me out because of the ambience and pitch black. and this is even worse!
I remember that this red screen showing up upon trying to watch a film on my PS2 and oh boy this genuinely scared me to the point that I had a few nights worrying about this being in my nightmares.
My previous home was by the beach, and only now I'm realizing how this error screen that was giga scary to me as a kid, had the background noise of a beach at nighttime. I used to spend some time outside just to feel the breeze and be soothed by its sound and the sound of the waves, and it sounded so damn similar to this. I moved to another country away from my parents, I'm living alone right now. The sound of this video is unexpectedly calming to me, since it reminds me of my old home. Feeling a tad homesick too, but in a happy way.
Was never scared of it. Looking back on it now, it’s so beautiful. Reminds me of the ocean, at night. The only light is from the moon. Life can be a beautiful thing sometimes.
Imagine if you play PS2 in 3AM and you see this screen. You gonna have yourself a nightmare and Scared of this. Edit: if rsod was scary I'll name this. "Red Screen from Hell."
This just happened to me the other day. I found an old ps2 game and decided to give it a try, since I never heard of it before. Put it in my ps2 and this screen came up. It happened around 11 at night with all the lights turned off. Needless to say gave me chills. Apparently the disc had one too many scratches.
I remember getting a game from my local library when this happened. I forget which game however. At the time I think only my dad was home, and he was in the garden doing work. I was in the living room excited to play my new game. I open the case and put my new games disk in. When it booted up, I was greeted with this screen. I had a mix of flight or fight, a weird adrenaline and fright in me, and was debating intensely to call my dad over. In the end I forcefully reset the ps2 (switch on the back) and it worked. That definitely scarred me LOL
I got this once from a legitimate ps2 game though to be fair 7 year old me probably wasn't very careful with my games I'm pretty sure I just left them lying around most of the time. Though funnily enough it's more scary to me now then it was back then when I saw this as a 7 year old I was annoyed that I couldn't play my game but seeing this now makes me feel like a demon is going to come through the screen and teach me a lesson about being a filthy pirate even though I'm watching this on a phone and haven't pirated a game in years.
PS2 has always been my favorite console mainly because of the magical startup sound and disc error lol. It's so incredibly mysterious, ominous and vague at the same time. You can't even describe it or the feeling you have, almost like you are heading into a void, a dark limbo or something you are going to experience after death. In my opinion your whole childhood flashes before your eyes when you see this because I grew up with this legendary console and its insane library of great and nostalgic games. And some people find this creepy, scary or plain terrifying which is funny because I always feel comfortable and safe with this amazing intro. Whoever created this is an absolute mastermind and a genius and deserves a nobel prize.
Everyone was super scared of this but I vividly remember when I was a dumbass 5 year old I put a pc game In my ps2, got this screen, and sat for *20 MINUTES* waiting for it to work. Didn't get scared or nothing, I just wanted to play some Counter Strike on my playstation.
While I'm personally not scared by this at all, I can see how it could be considered unnerving. The red colors, the somewhat eerie sound, and how unexpected it is make it fairly disturbing. Not to mention how long it goes on for, with eerie silence backing it up.
When I saw the start up I said yes this is my happiness and when I saw the red part I got a heart attack and said IM GOING TO HELL and ran out the room haha good times I miss my childhood

I don’t even know why people are scared of it.
Same tbh, I sometimes boot up my ps2 just for it to sit on this screen
I remember throwing a movie or something into my PS2 as a kid and I nearly shit my pants when this screen showed up. I didn’t play for like a week

My brother had a ps2 and I remember one night I was asleep and he came into my room and said “I think my ps2 is possessed.” 😂
The first time this screen pop-up to me I was like 7 or something, and I've never been so scared in my entire life till then.
Shout-out to Sony for bringing me to hell for trying to play a scratched disc.
Fun fact: The towers on the loading screen actually represents the amount of games you played.
Wth, for real?
@@mrcloudark787 Yep, the length of each tower represents your playtime per game
As a former ps2 owner I can say this wasn't anti piracy, either there was no disc inserted or it couldn't be read.
Sometimes it actually was because of Anti-piracy.
Sometimes.
For some reason when this happened to me. i wasn't scared. i wasn't pissed. i was just oddly fascinated.
I was exposed to this monstrosity when I was 6 and I still feel uneasy to this day.
