True, Dystopia arc are the least creepy from Dreamcatcher but for me any Dreamcatcher MV never looks creepy to me because i grew up watching Marilyn Manson MV 😅
But the horror movies grounded in what could easily happen in real life are always scarier than the fantastical slasher movies. It's a level up in the impact, imo.
@@TheGroovyJones I agree with you. The Dystopia story for me personally is much more impactful than the Nightmare arc, solely because it hits so close to home. It's easy to be scared of the unknown but what truly terrifies me every day is the reality we live in. And that's why I think the Dystopia storyline is so powerful and, yes, creepy.
PIRI was the creepiest Dreamcatcher MV for me. Other than that, I love the gothic/victorian aesthetics of most of their nightmare series. "What" was another kind of creepy as in depressing lonely creepy. But yeah, I didn't find the Dystopia arc creepy but rather sad yet colorful.
It's so good to see a "group" reaction to this! While Odd Eye isn't a happy ending to the trilogy, I feel like it's still a satisfying ending because you're coming to the realization that pretending to be someone else to please others isn't a solution, and the best thing you can do is just be true to yourself.
I would have loved it if Jason mentioned that the red drink that she drinks is a reference to the Matrix where Neo takes the red pill and sees the world for what it actually is and not the fake illusion that it is created to be. Other than that 10/10 video!
@@CutleryWonder The main reason it is the opposite of the Kool Aid is because once she drank it, she realized the false reality she was in and opened her eyes to what was going on. Thats the opposite of someone who drinks the Kool aid and metaphorically falls out of reality and into delusion
@@m_js5709 You can see the poison in her cheeks as she drinks it. Also I'm not sure that the odd eye lets them see reality. The lyrics are hard to interpret in English but they talk about being covered in lies etc so it's possible their odd eyes aren't an indicator of grace but of corruption. But that's the fun of not having an authoritative meaning - everyone can interpret it their own way :)
@@CutleryWonder You're right, there are a few parallel ways of interpretating the visual symbolism in the video as it pertains to the eyes and what not. I feel like the odd eye makes sense as opening up to reality because after their eye color changes with most of the members, all the messed up stuff like fire & the withering tree start occurring in the video. It sounds to me like they were saying open your odd eye & see things for what they really are similar to people who are trying to open their eyes and become "woke". Calling those who can see past the surface level as having odd eyes makes sense to me because using social media to create a fake idealized version of ourself is so normalized. If someone didn't use social media or didn't compete in presenting an ideal version of themselves to everyone, those people would probably be considered weird. That's my take but agree that there is room for interpretation on video symbolism.
Jason's comment on the role the chromaticism in the song plays both musically and as a storytelling device blew my mind. The attention to detail in Dreamcatcher's songs is astonishing.
Anacrucis. Never learned that term in conservatory. I should ask for my money back. Great job as always. As a music nerd, it’s nice to hear people talk my language from time to time
personally I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having to decode a song, it adds a bit of fun to the experience. but yes DC’s songs are truly deep, both methods of delivering the message/meaning are great
I never noticed what Stephanie said about the chorus with the vocals & instrumentals echoing the melody line before doing the melody in unison, but now that she pointed it out I’m amazed, the structure of it is incredible!! Stuff like this is why I love these reactions. ❤️
I LOVE Dreamcathcer reactions, DC is such a unique group, love how they tend to always love their work, not only musically, but visually, story and lyric wise.
The fact that I have listened to this many times, and repeatedly... I never even noticed how the music and vocals was until it was pointed out by Stephanie. Watching this was like listening to Odd Eye for the first time again!
Fun fact according to Yoohyeon: The red water tasted like... water XD it was just colored water Also an interesting thing our friendly neighbor PD (Form of Therapy) picked up on, is the red water alluding to the red pill in the Matrix movies, I thought Jason would pick that up here 13:58 since he was so close in that train of thought, alluding to the illusion of social media we live, but still, loved their reaction as always!!
Something really cool from the photobook too (further cementing this imagery) is that they have a set of photos where there's IV bags full of *blue* liquid!
This is my second favorite Dreamcatcher title track, just behind "You and I." I think there has been a progression in DC's sound, and this song is kind of the culmination of that journey. What started as a kpop group that did rock songs, has since morphed over time(I'd say starting maybe as early as "What") into a true fusion of kpop and metal/rock. Dreamcatcher has always been a bit unique, but I feel like they have found a sound that is 100% their own. "Odd Eye" is the latest evolution in that sound, and I love it! I think it is not only a singularly unique sounding track, but is also a perfect example of all the things Dreamcatcher excel at. Impressive vocals, an intricate, well layered instrumental backing track, loads of dynamic contrast, and the whole song builds in such a way that it draws you further and further in until its end. Also, the album is awesome, and the Crossroads concerts were utterly fantastic. (please read like an overly excited, super giddy fanboy, because that's who wrote it)
Hi umu! Just wanted to say your editing is fab!!!! I absolutely understand nothing about music (but thoroughly enjoy your videos and will always!) and it’s so helpful that you’re inserting the bits of songs the musicians are referring to so even the average human like me don’t get lost in the technical/jargon side of it :’) Thank u for all your hard work umu! So happy y’all got a sponsor for this video too!!
Wanted to say thank you to Brianna for talking at length about the lyrics and bringing that vulnerability to the table. She didn't have to do that, but I also felt read by this song too so it's nice to hear how it has touched others.
Loved that dystopia discussion by the end. I come here for the music talk and I'm happy with just that but also getting an analysis about the dystopia concept itself? This is quality content right here!
this song caught me on the first listen and i'm still mesmerized by it. dreamcatcher has such amazing vocals, they can really show a lot of emotion on every line. and even if you don't read the lyrics, the music captures a lot of the sentiment. that translation into sound is just mind-blowing to me idk
They actually do pretty well - just not with their singles - but their albums are selling really well, with their last 2 Dystopia selling over 100k each (and Road to Utopia actually hit no. 1 on the charts). Maybe the fact that Odd Eye actually hit no. 12 on the download chart is a good sign.
NGL I haven't been keeping up with your schedule and I did not expect more DC content till the next CB from you and now a group react!!!!! I LOVE. THANK YOU!
To be honest seeing another Odd Eye title apart from SHINees puzzled me and check the song right when it came out. Was.. IS so good! Glad you guys have it in the reactions too ✨
OMG!!! Thanks for reminding me Farenheit 451, I never thought about this... Now I love more the song, thank you for this, all of you. Thanks for your opinions. God!!! I love Dreamcatcher team and all the musicians that react too because they give me another perspective that I didn't take into account. Thank you thank you thank you :)
15:09 OH MY GOD THANK YOU JASON that explanation of the melody of the chorus was very precise omg that's what I was thinking since day 1 😭 the chorus has a feeling of sad reality, like "there's nothing left to do, the world is already hopeless" feeling??
I love this song so much and this was a really interesting and educational reaction. Ya'll are doing great work here and I appreciate your insights. Listening to folks smarter and more knowledgeable than yourself is a great way to learn!
I'm really looking forward to your reaction to the whole album because the bsides are so good. I enjoy watching and listening to your opinions/perspective on their songs!
Well I didn’t expect a reference to one of my favorite books, “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley, but there it was! Awesome! Not just analyzing the musical components of the song, but also the lyrics. For a moment it felt like I was watching Philosophy Tube until Jason started playing the keyboard and I thought “oooh yeah, we’re talking about a song!” LOL Another fantastically amazing video! Thanks to everyone involved for making it!!!!
Love how you are able to deconstruct and put a name to every part of this beautiful music. You are truly masters of your craft. I always learn something new from your reactions. Keep up the good work. This Insomniac thanks you.
I hope dreamcatcher breaks into western market properly because something different from mainstream is more appreciated their. Unlike in Kpop where they are sidelined
Amazing feed back!! I love your channel due to my love for band music and kpop!! Love hearing musical terms as I’m not actively playing my Instrument, keep doin what u do! (Dreamcatcher is def my #1 group!!)

Dreamcatcher's Nightmare arc: Hi

I think of it more as drinking the Kool-Aid (buying into social media) and being poisoned by it.
yeah because the second yoo drank that red drink, she opened her odd eye
