    Here's my favorite microphone for under $100. The Sure SM57. Check it out on Amazon: goo.gl/WZ6Wb1
    The SM57 is an industry standard! I use it all of the time for vocals, recording guitar amps, and my drum kit.

    • @stemart1641
      @stemart1641 7 лет назад +1

      Excellent choice of mic. I use one for my vocals. The 57 has always been my mic of choice Bob. I use one in my studio set up with the dedicated wind shield plus a pop shield. Gives a beautiful well rounded vocal. And I've always really dug the look of the mic too. I also use some sub bass in the mids on the Steinway grand sound in Logic. Gives the piano sound some more crunch. IMHO. Man, your videos are the most instructive I've found online!

      Thanks Steve for the kudos on the tutorials! Hopefully, there's a few nuggets of knowledge in these videos to help you and others. BTW - I took a listen to the Billy Joel tune and it really sounds great! Good job with the piano and vocals!

    For the stage at 5:20 there's also the scale quantise option on the left of the editor which I find speeds it up the process a little- as long as you select what key your in, just highlight the notes and hit the "Q" button next to it

    Helo Bob, I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for this tutorials, I'm a regular self-taught musician and I don't know much about music production but I'm currently learning... vocal harmonies was something I was particularly struggling with and this video has improved the quality of my songs a lot, so... thank you for this and many of your other tutorials on Logic Pro X.

    Bob, Great tutorial-Thank you. You saved me hours of project time creating 3 part complex harmos. Used the splice tool for the complex in note harmonies and it divided up the notes for pitch changes. Can't thank you enough.

      Martin Kelly You can change the pitch of the vocal in GB but it applies to the entire track. That won't work for vocal harmonies. You'll need Logic Pro X. It's an easy transition if you are currently using GB 10. $199 for a professional DAW is a great deal you may want to consider. Good luck!

    You can delay the harmony without a delay plugin. You can delay regions in that left top window that has the gain and transpose options as well.

    I am going through a hard time trying to make my vocals decent (in terms of mixing). I have made a big effort in interpreting and reaching good vocal takes, but when it comes to mixing, instead of making them sound better, I make them sound worse. Thank you again!

    Great vid! A small thing that I don't agree with is the way you made the harmony, with just a third above. I would say instead think of the chord your using rather than strictly thirds or sixths (unless you're hitting the root or the third of the chord all the time, in which case it'll work) I use the vocal transformer and pitch shifter a lot too, automating it to give hte proper note, but that's a bit painstaking sometimes. I also often put a dip in the high mids to remove more of the crispness from the harmony vocals

    • @BobSell
      @BobSell  7 лет назад +1

      Great! Thank for the tip! Hector, I think you missed my point. Sorry if I was not clear on this but I was not referring to the 3rd of the root note of a chord or the key of the song. I was referring to the specific note that the vocalist lands on. So the pitch shifting was a major 3rd up from a specific note (or 4 half steps). If this note falls outside of the key of the song then make your adjustment to a minor 3rd (3 half steps). Of course there are more than one way of harmonizing. I was just illustrating a simple harmony example for the video by pitching a specific NOTE up a major or minor 3rd. Please use whatever works for you. There no right or wrong way.

    try 'Scale quantize' beneath time quantize. It saves you time, instead of dragging each note at a time

      Very perceptive! I guess I really like the 80s and I've embraced the technology of modern music. So there you go, a modern 80s popish sound! Thanks for the comment.
