  • I've always been a fan of the Remington 700. My first centerfire rifle was a Remington 700 BDL chambered in .308 Win and I've loved them ever since. Even though I'm a fan, this Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD, is the first non-custom Remington 700 I've owned in 26 years.
I originally picked this up when I was working for Grayboe Stocks. I needed a straight factory Remington 700 to drop into any of the stocks that I was testing or getting content with. I wanted a 22" varmint contour, threaded barrel, chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor and I found this to be a perfect solution.
Having several high-end custom rifles, the big question was how it was going to perform in the field. I really wanted something I can just take out and shoot, beat around, let friends run, and still have a level of consistency that I can count on for longer shots. I'm really happy to say it exceeded my expectations and I'm very happy with it. On average this rifle shoots .75 MOA with quality factory ammunition. During initial testing, I managed several 1/2 MOA 5 shot groups and not one measured over 1 inch center to center.

I've had a 700 SPS Tactical in 308 with the 20" barrel for about 10 years now. It's performed very well and became one of my favorite bolt guns to take to the range. With the hand loads I worked up for it, it's a consistent .7 MOA gun, half minute on my absolute best day with perfect conditions. 168 grain SMKs, Varget powder, Federal G210M primers and typically whatever brass I have on hand, winchester, norma, lapua, lake city, etc. Haven't done much reloading lately, prices are outrageous and that's if you can even find it. I'm thankful I stock piled what I did before all this craziness started.

I did the same thing with mine but with an Athlon scope. With cheap s&b ammo it’s a 3/4 rifle all day. With my factory nosler ballistic tip sitting on a bucket with a cheap bog pod tripod in the rain I shot back to back sub half groups.

Mine shoots .25 MOA with Fusion ammo for hunting. I did go through it with a micrometer and a fine tooth comb. It is .308 for police use but it is my private gun. I am a world record holding shooter and have shooting skills and practice most do not have. For a shorter barreled factory gun in this price range this is the bomb.
    My department is cheap.

Recently picked up a Remington 700 SPS in 308 caliber, but noticed the barrel comes in contact with the stock, so changed over to a Magpul stock to free float the barrel and also upgraded to a detachable magazine. Initial sight in at 100 yards looks good, but need to shoot more. Not looking for a thousand yard gun, but want something that can easily reach out to 500 yards or so.

Just got this exact rifle. Love it.
Maybe not as nice as a 2020 Waypoint but for under $1000 im not sure if the waypoint is 4x as good considering it’s 4x the cost.
I added Magpul Pro 700 stock and magpul bipod. Bringing the cost of mine close to the waypoint. And at that point, I dunno which is better. But they sorta have different applications at that point.
