DDPAV happy to hear it’s still of use! Makes me think I should upload some other potentially helpful videos that I left in my drafts. Thanks for the encouragement!
@@1nation561 Just remember no matter how much experience you've gathered, someone else is doing it for the very first time. No doubt you've helped others, they just don't always let you know. Especially helpful to me since I'm extremely mechanically illiterate....
I recently added Batwing Faring to my 2015 Sportster 1200 Custom and This very thing kept me on the hold for one week, till i came across yor video. Many Thanks
You’re welcome! Thanks for the support, I’m glad it worked out for ya. I uploaded for this very reason so it’s cool to see it still being useful today. Ride safe out there 🤙
bwatchnu excellent to hear it has been helpful. I’m a similar learner, show me once and I got it. Tell me how and I’ll ask you again at some point hahaha. Hope all worked out 👍 thanks!
You are very welcome, I appreciate the good words and I’m glad it worked out for you. I keep saying I will be uploading new content with similar (hopefully helpful) tasks but I plan to do so in the next month or so. Thanks for the motivation sir and ride safe this year 🤙
Mo Mo yes, it is similar for the front as well, however depending on the model will depend on the ease of access to wiring. Roadglides and front fairing mounted models are a longer process but definitely doable as a DIY. Best of luck and I’m glad this helped! 🇺🇸
You don't need a special tool or bent wire to pull out the light sockets. Use a hook tool, push down on the socket until the hook engages under the socket lip and pull it out. Switch to other side if it doesn't give on first try.
Man I see this was posted 6 years ago but I'm so glad it was still here. Yor really explained it very well, I know I would have ruined it with all the crazy ideas I had as of how to do it. Don't know if you still reply but is reassembled the same way. Do you just push in all the way down and it pops into place or something. no twisting or secrets to keep it together. Thanks again
Thanks for the support brother 👍🏼. I check infrequently so sorry for the delay but yes reassembly is just reversed process. The only thing to watch for is make sure your wire pins go into the plug the correct way to “snap” them into place, you’ll hear the click and can see the “latch” before you slide it in. Give a light tug on the wire afterwards to make sure it is in correctly but the tab only goes 1 way to lock it in. Hope this helps and you’re welcome 🍻
Hi, thanks for that. Im trying to take my 1156 and make it 1157 and your video shows that it can be switched. I have an 05 ultra classic. I can't find the light bar with it already 1157 but your using 1. Obviously it would be a lot easier with 1 thats already done.. What is that off of?
Russ Dory this is off of a 2015 road glide special. If you mean the led white light that’s underneath for the plate light I actually may have one kicking around the shop. I will check tomorrow and let you know if that’s what you’re looking for? Glad this video helped though. I have a few others I will be taking the time to post soon since the feedback all seems to be positive.
Joel Lynch excellent question which I didn’t realize I hadn’t addressed in the video, sorry about that. It does not matter if the wires are accidentally reversed on the inner two matching wires that sit inside the plastic ring. They only complete a circuit on the lightbulb. However the other wire inside the housing with the tab on it that is fairly difficult to remove has to go back into that slot. Hope this helps! If I made that too confusing just let me know and I’ll do my best to explain more accurately. Thanks and ride safe!
gghostrrider unfortunately I don’t, the front signals are very similar. The biggest difference is that if you’re trying to remove the arm of the signal completely, then you will have to remove the front fairing to get to the nut that is holding it together. I’ll be sure to video it and upload if I find myself taking it apart for any reason. Hope this helps out and best of luck
I’m kinda nervous about unclipping the wiring in order to get to the chrome. Seems like it might be difficult to get back in place. Thanks for the reply.
thanks for the vid. I did this for all 4 signals on my 17 RGS. but I cut the black wire and solder it. question.. do you have to have the colored wires in a specific order? after I completed one signal I tested it and nothing...so trying to figure it out. not sure if all 4 need to be installed to test?
Chris Mccarty thanks for the shout out Chris! I'm glad it helped. As for the wires I do believe they have to be connected in order for colors because of the Run/turn/stop pattern each wire operates a different pattern. I'll try and see if I can find a schematic of it but the fastest way might be to check the other side of wires to see what order they're in and copy that layout.
I just found this. I had mine powder coated and when the shop put it back togehh the we they did something because my right light is loose and my brake and turn signal don’t work unless u jiggle it. Guess I’m going to have to replace it.
YVON BILODEAU you're very welcome and I'm happy to hear it! After a long time off of here I plan to toss up another hopefully helpful video soon. Thanks again.
brad rubin yes sir, similar process for the gasket, wiring, and lens removal. As for the mounting hardware, it's closely similar but depending on the model of bike you have you'll have to remove the front fairing to have the mounting hardware in your hand. Hope this helps and if you get stuck give me a shout and I'll try and get ya through it👍. Thanks!
electricjed , you don't need to remove the rear wheel to get that piece off. it is very tight and uncomfortable to get your hand between the tire and fender but it is possible and that's how I did it. I used an open ended wrench to get the two mounting bolts off and to remount it as well. I hope this helps, if you need more tips just give me a shout 👍
Sadly enough I just pulled the black wire out of the connector..the dealership was no help any idea of where I can get a new wiring set-up or a part number on the connector piece??
Nick Raffaele did u pull the wire from the pin? Or the wire and pin from the connector? If the pin is still on the wire u can slide it back into place into the connector, if it slid out of the pin and it's a bare wire you can twist the wire so it's a fine tip. Then reinsert it back into the pin inside the connector and secure it with glue. If you're looking for new or even a used connector I'd check ebay, I've had some luck with them and occasionally local computer stores and similar places like batteries plus will carry the pins and misc connectors but that's normally on a less time pressing project with time to shop around. Hope this helps, best of luck!
My buddies 2011 sporty 48 bobber has a broken front signal bracket(mounted to forks oem). Is this the same process? We cant find no help on the web on disassembly. It makes the most sense we have to do it this way cause on the other side the wires go through a bolt/washer and theres no way to get a tool on that bolt.
Gunluver1 sorry for the delay, been busy trying to remember my password haha. anyway, without seeing a picture of it it's hard to say but from what I've looked up for photos of it I believe you're correct and that it is a similar process. As mentioned in another comment you could cut and splice the wires later, I just prefer disassembly over cutting for the factory look. If you have a photo of it let me know and send it over, should show some indication of an attack plan. thanks for the comment 👍 I hope it works out
We got it taken care off, i was gonna unpin the connector but he rather do it this way. It was similar to this, ground on the reflective was a bitch to remove, idk why. Shes back up and working. Thanks for the vid
Hey Frank, assembly is going to be exact order in reverse except the things to note are when you plug the wire pin back into the socket that was removed around the (4:00) min mark. Make sure it snaps into the plug and is lined up correctly to catch the tab that was depressed when reinserting. Also, when placing the socket back into the housing, soapy water around the rim of the housing and on the rubber socket will help you pop the socket back into the housing easier. Equal light pressure and you’ll feel and see when it seats. Hope this helps a little for ya and enjoy the new parts 👍
It's 2020 and this is exactly what I needed- thanks!

John... thank you bud!!!! Looked hi & low for this, plus hours of trying to figure out how I was going to disassemble w/out damaging my lightbar
Older video. And still helping people. Thanks man. I knew it'd be easy. Just need to see it first sometimes.
bwatchnu excellent to hear it has been helpful. I’m a similar learner, show me once and I got it. Tell me how and I’ll ask you again at some point hahaha. Hope all worked out 👍 thanks!
Very helpful video. Everyone posts videos of the easy stuff, but very few post videos of the difficult stuff. Thanks very much for doing it.
malcvtr you're welcome! Thanks for the appreciation! I'm happy it was helpful as intended.
Thanks just what I was looking for. Better tutorial than others on YT
Just what I was looking for~Thanks for posting this Brother! Saved me a LOT of aggravation!!!
Hey John, thanks for the video, it helped me a lot today. You were right the difficulty was on the little tab of the black wire....thanks again...
Jesus Irazabal excellent!! I'm glad to hear it! 👍 you're welcome
Thank you so much for the video as saved me time & money. Much cheaper to powder coat than buy new.
Excellent! So happy to hear it! Hope the fresh powder coat comes out great for ya! 🍻
Thank you very much for this video, saved me a ton of time!
Thank You, was exact project I was working on, made it easy
Thanks man! About to do this as well, looks annoying but better than internally wiring my handlebars !
You’re welcome brother! Definitely a pain with the little screws but saves some coin on the DIY end for sure. Glad it helped out 🇺🇸
Thanks man... Made my afternoon... Was about to smash all mine up lol.
You’re welcome! Hahaha I’ve been there before as well too many times, glad it worked out and always happy to hear that it is helpful 🍻🇺🇸
Thank you sir! I thought the center piece came out first. I was afraid of breaking it.

Glad to hear it brother! Ride safe and hammer down!
Thank you for this video, I want to blackout my bike and this was one of the biggest pains to take apart.
Geo Leo happy to hear it! I was doing the same when I made the video. Be safe riding this New Year 👍
This was very easy to do. Thanks for the video
You’re welcome! Hope the ride comes out nice for ya! 🇺🇸
Thank u so much man 👍👏 i thought it couldn't be removed
Great Man !!!! - hope front is same too ,wanted to relocate front signals from handle bar ,wire runs insides handle Bar.

Wicked Awesome vid Kid.
Hahaha thank you! 🤙
GREAT video & a BIG help! Thanks for making the video.

Can I change the receptacle/socket from 1156 to 1157 type? Are 1157 receptacles easy to buy?

Do you have to put the wires back in the housing the same way? The 2 wires that butt up to the bulb is it specific right and left connection?
Joel Lynch excellent question which I didn’t realize I hadn’t addressed in the video, sorry about that.
