This re-interpretation (not a cover) of Hello has many sides to it as discussed already. Another interesting fact not mentioned in comments is that Dimash performed in this comeback show of The Singer with his former teammates and friends, after almost two months silence from all social media, the stage and the studio - between December 2017 and February 2018. So the first time he appears live, he chooses to sing a re-interpretation of Lionel Richie’s Hello. He delivers it with all the finesse/signs/feelings of a very personal message for his worldwide Dears who were anguished and missed him desperately, intensely. By the way, he needed an operation for sinuses and took medical leave for recovery in that time. The coincidence of Lionel’s son-in-law being JessieJ’s manager and behind the scenes of the show may be a clue (hypothetical only) that the show had contact with and agreement from Lionel for this one-off rendition.

Hello Soul LaVee, I love your reactions, because I love listening to eloquent and smart people. As a long time Dear (since 2017) , because I went all the road with Dimash since The Singer contest, I can tell you that there was a reason Dimash chose just this song by Lionel Richie. After The Singer contest Dimash disappeared from a public view for a couple of months. We had no info what is going with him except few messages from time to time on his Instagram and we were not even sure back then that it was Dimash who posted them. So we were woried and waited until he shows up. And he appeared as a guest after the finale of The Singer 2018. He especially chose this song as thank and gratidute for all the care that Dears showed towards him and that's why he sang: "hello, is it me you're looking for?", as acknowledgement that he knew we were looking for him. So this song had a special meaning both for him and us. He was back and we found him :) Just wanted to share a little backstory to it, because you wondered about it :) Yes you are right, he seals songs, after him there is no possible to do a cover of Dimash's version :) He is one and only. Such genius I think happens once in a century or less and we are lucky we can witness his growth and listen to his voice. He is on Mozart level. I also was not the biggest fan of Lionel Ritchie’s version (although the best of LR’s music) and I was initially reluctant to watch this cover, BUT Dimash pulled me in and I have listened on multiple occasions now and I appreciate this version more every time. I agree - his melismas are phenomenal. The “flute-like” instrument is a sygyzby apparently and is known as a very lyrical instrument played in Kazakhstan and Mongolia. (If we still had phone books, he could sing that too!)

One more thing, for me this song is also to some extend very strong political statemet. He connected very well known and popular American hit song with Arabic melismas. This melismas is the singing of muezzin in the minaret calling muslims for a prayer. I would like to make some additions to your comment. It was a so called two-year concert as the 14. Episode of the Singer 2018. On 20. April 2018. Dimash, Tia Rey, Lion and Diamond from the finals of i am Singer 2017 were invited to this concert together with the finalists of the Singer 2018. They formed 3 teams. Dimash was in a team with Tengri and Wang Feng (we could see them sitting together and hearing to Dimash). The team with the most votes from the audience was the winner. And it was the team Dimash & co!!!

An interesting but not unusual sequence of events in your reaction from mehhh to yeah, also reflected in the comments. This re-interpretation (not a cover) of Hello has many sides to it as discussed already.
Another interesting fact not mentioned in comments is that Dimash performed in this comeback show of The Singer with his former teammates and friends, after almost two months silence from all social media, the stage and the studio - between December 2017 and February 2018. So the first time he appears live, he chooses to sing a re-interpretation of Lionel Richie’s Hello. He delivers it with all the finesse/signs/feelings of a very personal message for his worldwide Dears who were anguished and missed him desperately, intensely. By the way, he needed an operation for sinuses and took medical leave for recovery in that time. The coincidence of Lionel’s son-in-law being JessieJ’s manager and behind the scenes of the show may be a clue (hypothetical only) that the show had contact with and agreement from Lionel for this one-off rendition.

Hello Soul LaVee, I love your reactions, because I love listening to eloquent and smart people. As a long time Dear (since 2017) , because I went all the road with Dimash since The Singer contest, I can tell you that there was a reason Dimash chose just this song by Lionel Richie. After The Singer contest Dimash disappeared from a public view for a couple of months. We had no info what is going with him except few messages from time to time on his Instagram and we were not even sure back then that it was Dimash who posted them. So we were woried and waited until he shows up. And he appeared as a guest after the finale of The Singer 2018. He especially chose this song as thank and gratidute for all the care that Dears showed towards him and that's why he sang: "hello, is it me you're looking for?", as acknowledgement that he knew we were looking for him. So this song had a special meaning both for him and us. He was back and we found him :) Just wanted to share a little backstory to it, because you wondered about it :) Yes you are right, he seals songs, after him there is no possible to do a cover of Dimash's version :) He is one and only. Such genius I think happens once in a century or less and we are lucky we can witness his growth and listen to his voice. He is on Mozart level. I also was not the biggest fan of Lionel Ritchie’s version (although the best of LR’s music) and I was initially reluctant to watch this cover, BUT Dimash pulled me in and I have listened on multiple occasions now and I appreciate this version more every time. I agree - his melismas are phenomenal. The “flute-like” instrument is a sygyzby apparently and is known as a very lyrical instrument played in Kazakhstan and Mongolia. (If we still had phone books, he could sing that too!)

And the participants were Dimash, Tia Rey, Lion and Diamond Zhang from the finalists of the year 2017 and all finalists of the year 2018. They formed 3 teams. The concert was organised as a contest between this 3 teams. Dimash was together with Tengri and Wang Feng in one of this teams. (You can see Tengri and Wang Feng sitting together in the video.) One more thing, for me this song is also to some extend very strong political statemet. He connected very well known and popular American hit song with Arabic melismas. This melismas is the singing of muezzin in the minaret calling muslims for a prayer. I do not think any American singer would ever think of such connection, because American and muslim worlds just do not connect, but Dimash did it and it sounds beautiful.
