It may be a good idea but tbh you really don't need to if you don't have time. Unless you are worried about that 1% chance. DOA rate is actually more likely less than .5%. Never in my whole life have I ever had a DOA FE card. FE warranty still good with the block they confirmed this.
I'll be doing a similar procedure on my 4090 FE with a similar waterblock fairly soon. I've got the EK Quantum Vector2 waterblock, but without the active backplate. So, some of the installation procedures are a little different judging from the instructions that the EKWB manual provides. However, it's close enough that your video is a good real world example on how it's done. I've still got parts to buy to complete my build so it'll be a bit of time before it is time for me to build, but once that day arrives I'll be keeping your video open for side reference. Also, unboxing and seeing the card for the first time in person and in my hands had me second guessing putting a waterblock on it, because damn the stock heatsink array actually looks quite nice aesthetically. But I've already committed to water cooling it and it must be done.

@@SnaxanGaming you have taught me so well I am considering of building one in the near future I have the same tower case as you. Not only smart and resourceful but you are really pretty. Are you single?
Hey I officially ordered my EK parts, full on triple radiator two p’s and an X , 4090 abp block, am5 velocity 2, quantum 2 distro plate for o11xl. Big difference from yours is my fans I went with Lian li sl-inf fans, white case, 16mm tubing, and the newer distro. Now the painful 3-4 month wait for shipping. Still waiting on new 7000x3d to drop anyway. Any mobo recommendations that will fit our thick 4090 water block for am5? I was looking at a white x670 Asus strix but not sure if it will fit.
Good luck on the build! I don't know which boards have this issue, but the thing to look out for is making sure that the 4090 backplate doesn't interfere with the heatsinks, on some boards the card doesn't get seated all the way because of that. Also I remember there were some boards that have the RAM slots a little too low also, getting in the way of the backplate. A way around these issues is to mount vertically, but that has its own issues to check for. Doesn't matter if it's intel or AM5, and the case pretty fits almost any board. I'll be updated my o11 with a different card and AM5 too :) The 4090 in this video will be going inside an EVO. BTW, the Strix board you mention has ram clearance, but just make sure to check the measurements on that m.2 ssd heatsink above the slot! :)

What’s the motherboard? Watch the extra clearance needed for that active back plate. I have an Asus z790 hero and it won’t fully seat due to the board’s integrated nvme heatsink. After scanning through MSI, Gigabyte, and Asus, it may be a more common problem in their higher end boards due to those nvme heatsinks above the GPU pci-e slot.
I modded a few things to make things fit but it's going to be mounted upright in reverse anyway so clearance ended up being ok :) Ended up with unify x board in an Evo.
