One year ago today my mom died at age 80. When I think of her and my childhood (I was born in 68) this song stands out. I am a Presbyterian pastor, but by God, I was going to have this played at her funeral. My music director (an amazing jazz pianist) created an amazing piano arrangement of this as the postlude, and all my old church people were rocking out to this, remembering those days of the late 60s. And now I’m listening again, crying yet smiling, as I remember my wonderful, new agey mom! And she made it into the Age of Aquarius.

@@lisaspikes4291 No. The emphasis shifted from music to vocalists, then primarily to screechy female vocalists, and the music got simpler and simpler. Go to a pop concert and you won't even see musicians, they're backstage if they aren't just recordings, onstage is some Smile Girl with a voice that makes bats collide and dancers twirling in unison. It's disgusting. The music doesn't change in key, it is harmonic babytalk (most pop has four chords: I, IV, V, and VI), it does not change in tempo or dynamics. I can't stand it.
@digpan. I lost interest in new rock before 1980 and only bought a few Berlin School artists, Eno, and Vangelis from 1977 to 1993. I’ve heard no recent rock I liked enough to hear a second time.. Aquarius felt anthemic. I was 14 and I believed.
The songs from the 70's are timeless, underrated, and unforgettable...they were the bridge to the great tunes of the 80's and 90's. I really don't know what we have today???
SOME songs are timeless.....a FEW. I agree that the best popular music of the 70s seems t be forgotten......the soul music......HArold Melvin and Teh Blue Notes, the Spinners, Gladys Night's work, Barry White, Earth Wind and fire, Sly and The Family Stone, Curtis Mayfield, gil Scott Heron...most of these acts were so BIG back then, but somehow history isn't giving them their due..........and many more...they were great. Orchestrations, with wonderful baselines, harmonies, melodies, rational lyrics...the 80s had SOME Good songs....and the 90s got worse...since then it's all downhill, except for independent people doing their own recordings. There was a nice folk revival in the 90s, but pop and country? Downhill....I don't keep up with jazz. Rock music...mostly designed for drunk teenagers and Satanists....not for the rational person.
@@joemarshall4226 Survivorship bias. Most music from these "classic" eras was just as forgettable and disposable as most of the music from the present. We just... forgot about all of that stuff over the course of the decades.
@@BjornTheDim I agree that only the best stuff lasts, and tends to make the old times look better than they were. But there is something else going on. Today’s music, for the most part, really stinks. It’s not a wide open market, as in the past. It’s produced by fewer people, there’s not the money that once was, and it’s controlled propaganda. But, as I said, there is some great stuff happening in independent music that doesn’t make it to the radio

I saw them in person in my home town of Seattle in 1969! “Let the sunshine in.“ My boyfriend and I were so excited after hearing the song go on and on and on we jumped straight into a fountain outside the Colosseum.
I'd imagine that was a great show and fantastic time to be in Seattle. I didn't get there until the early 1990s and it was just on the cusp of gentrification and money coming in (+/-) for a bigger stadium and better opera house.
I was on a Cruise with the 5th Dimension. I was about 17 or 18. They just adored me and my brother! We performed in the talent show and the Cruise Olympics and they just cheered us on in everything we did. They were such sweet, humble people and performed and awesome show! I'm watching "HAIR" now!🤩

Today is officially the last day of the Kali Yuga, age of darkness and materialism and tomorrow begins the Sat Yuga, the Age of Enlightenment.....this song represents this amazing heart felt song of this new Age!!! ❤🎉❤🎉😂
A new age is upon us. Look around, everything is changing. All of the old institutions are succumbing to entropy (some more quickly than others) and it's going to be chaotic while new ones are established. We are currently in what future historians will call a "populist uprising" We The People are pissed off, and are beginning to realize we have the weight of numbers on our side. The United States is the most heavily armed nation in the world, with literally more firearms than people (400 million firearms for about 335 million Americans) and we want answers. Because the government and those people on the news said so is no longer a reason to do (or not do) anything.
0 - 2000 A. D was the age of Pisces. (Jesus the fish). 2000 - 4000 A. D. Is the age of Aquarius. Ase' King James Luke 22 and 10: And he said unto them, behold when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you bearing a PITCHER of WATER (Aquarius) ; follow him into the HOUSE ( the House of Aquarius) where he entereth in. The Age of Pisce (Jesus the fish) is over. 2000 A. D. Began the Age of AQUARIUS. LET THE SUNSHINE IN!!!! ☀️
Come on, you can share that sentiment without horribly misusing words from other spiritual traditions. It makes you sound like you're talking nonsense when you could be wording it in a much more apt way. The end of Kali Yuga (over 420,000 years in the future from now) is not a superficially pleasant thing for most of the people living in it (not until their next human lives, anyway), it's an apocalypse which occurs when the world is completely broken, with a few humans surviving into the paradisical Satya Yuga. The thousands of years measured by these astrological Ages are a tiny blip in the cycle of Yugas. In Hindu cosmology, a prosperous age of a few thousand years would be an opportunity to make the world as beautiful a place as possible in the time it has left. The world isn't going to magically change into a paradise in your lifetime, but all the hard work from countless people fighting for good might be able to create one for a while. If you're one of those people making the world a better place, you might be reborn in the paadisical age you want to see. That's the best interpretation I can provide with my knowledge of Hinduism, although I'm not necessarily prophesying it as perfectly accurate. Find the right words for what you want to say, don't erroneously misuse others.

So beautiful song. My parents had the long play vinyl disc at home and used to play it. My mother passed away in June 26, 2020, in this son remembers her. Greeting from El Salvador.
Love the story behind why they recorded the song: The producer of "Hair" was delighted by a last-minute 5D performance he caught, offered them tickets to the play, the group were so moved by it that when they heard the main song, they asked to record it to get it on the radio. Liking the idea of free publicity for the show, he said yes, and the rest is music history.

I remember learning listening this on one of my dad's old 45s when i was in like the fifth grade, and it suddenly made me feel this powerful sadness or nostalgia, the first time i ever had a really strong emotional impact from any piece of music. I feel I was touched at the stoplight by God, I left sobbing and drove to my methadone program, told James the Director of Southlight to start me on a detox..he did and a year later I walked away and have never looked back...Praise Jesus Christ!!🙏🙏🙏❤️
I'm so proud of you ❤
Praise the Lord always and forever
That is so awesome!! Praise you Jesus! He loves us sooo much!!
Amen

Merry Christmas

Easily one of the greatest best switches ever.
Imagine hearing music as good as this on the RADIO
Not a chance today. We have to rely on online or SIRIUS.
I thought it was because I was getting older, but it’s not. There is very little new music that is worth listening to.😫
@@lisaspikes4291 No.
Imagine hearing songs with English lyrics on the radio now days
The drumroll at 2:28 before let the sunshine gets me uncontrollably amped. Such a piece of art this song is and well beyond its years
This was the first album I ever owned at age 7. My mother bought it for me because I am Aquarius! We lived in a one room cabin in Anchorage, Alaska.
This song is almost as old as me (68) and it still gives us hope! God bless Bless yall from Texas!!!😀
I was born the year when the original Broadway version of this song was released (1967).
God bless you!
I'm 68 now. Remember them soo well.
I can not tell you how much this song still hits in 2024 😊❤
T.O.T.A.L.L.Y ✌️
It's even more relevant and timely now than when it was recorded.
@@dougoverhoff7568 Totally Hip Hip HIPPY DAZE!!!
It sure does.

The songs from the 70's are timeless, underrated, and unforgettable...they were the bridge to the great tunes of the 80's and 90's. I really don't know what we have today???
But this song was from 1969, not the 70s!
None of that would’ve happened without the massive transformation in music during the late 60s
The year was 1972 and the 5th Dimension played at my Jr High School. I know that sounds crazy but it’s true. Jackson Jr HS in Oklahoma City. I instantly fell in love with Marylin and when they played this song when it started Let the sun shine in I got goosebumps!
They were very underrated. Awesome group of singers
This is true. A generation that believed in our place in this complex universe. Only through, LOVE can this be achieved. 🙏
I’m in my 60’s and this song brings back memories
same for me!!!! keep playing this, share it with the younger generations!!
You know it! 😉
I can’t stop listening 🔃😍 Fifth Dimension was WAY ahead of their time ⭐️ We’re entering the Age of Aquarius soon! This means progress (which we’re already seeing), truths being revealed, mysterious veils lifted! Fellow lightworkers, keep up the amazing work! Keep playing this song and let the sunshine in!! 🌞✌️🌻
It's such an exciting time isnt it? :) sending good energy in your direction!

You are so right. this is on my playlist every January 21 to February 19...I am an Aquarian. This year it will be rocking even more. We are in the marvellous Age of Aquarius. Time to get back our humanity.
The 5th Dimension - Aquarius.It’s a mysterious masterpiece that doesn't fade.
And taking its sweet time to usher in fully
Magic. Born in 1961 and this song never gets old. Great bass line on Let The Sunshine In.
I was 5 I. Brooklyn nyc
By Seattle center. I’d assume. The fountain
I was on a Cruise with the 5th Dimension. I was about 17 or 18. They just adored me and my brother! We performed in the talent show and the Cruise Olympics and they just cheered us on in everything we did. They were such sweet, humble people and performed and awesome show! I'm watching "HAIR" now!🤩
This song is so for our time now, it is what the world need to listen to , thank you❤🎉💞🌻
One of the few songs I can't listen to just once when I revisit it. The change from Aquarius to Let the Sunshine In is something to admire forever.
I always loved this song. Befor I dont know what mean. But I love mutch more.
A carryover from the era of memorable music by truly talented artists!

When my father died, this song was playing over the PA in the hospice. "LET THE SUNSHINE....LET THE SUNSHINE IN!" I'll always think of that as my dad rising to the afterlife. It gives me peace.
Ase'
King James
Luke 22 and 10:
And he said unto them, behold when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you bearing a PITCHER of WATER (Aquarius) ; follow him into the HOUSE ( the House of Aquarius) where he entereth in.
The Age of Pisce (Jesus the fish) is over. 2000 A. D. Began the Age of AQUARIUS.
LET THE SUNSHINE IN!!!! ☀️
Oh I really hope your right.
@@thecamelchannel1467 OP is correct. no words were misused. Either you can see the transition happening, or you can't.

This song is very spiritual. We just entered Aquarius a few years ago. Literally, but the old paradigm will and is trying to hold on for hard😅
2:20 La parte de la canción del tordo raro
That’s one hell of a baseline on Let The Sunshine In.
My first concert was the 5th Dimension at the Garden State Art Center in Holmdel, NJ in May, 1969. I will never forget the crowd singing along and going wild when they played this song.
This song is a masterpiece of hope and renewal!
A nice song.
But words without deeds ring hollow.

This music is timeless; iconic; it defines a certain kind of good person.
Love the story behind why they recorded the song: The producer of "Hair" was delighted by a last-minute 5D performance he caught, offered them tickets to the play, the group were so moved by it that when they heard the main song, they asked to record it to get it on the radio. Liking the idea of free publicity for the show, he said yes, and the rest is music history.
are you talking about Michael Butler? he is wonderful in so many ways,
THX for a bit of background. 👍
5D got two nice songs to do the perfect Bridge on.....and the stage show hope for radio and Billboard listings to fill the seats...
.................how cumbersom it was before Internet and TicToc influencers. 😋
I remember those days in 1969 when radio killed it! Neither them or us could get enough of this masterpiece. Thank you, Marilyn.
I remember learning listening this on one of my dad's old 45s when i was in like the fifth grade, and it suddenly made me feel this powerful sadness or nostalgia, the first time i ever had a really strong emotional impact from any piece of music. I still get a hint of that every time i hear it. It was so strong it was almost painful, hard to describe it.
I'll be blasting this today/ during the 2024 Eclipse 🌘
Me too 😊😊😊❤❤🙏🙏🎶🎵
It has to be one of the most perfect harmony of voices on the planet. To me they are truly cosmic!
And here we are in "the age of Aquarius" Love this song!
