It was a 1994 (arcade) remake/sequel of the 1983 arcade game "Elevator Action", ported to the Saturn in 1997. Personally, I have quite a bit of fond nostalgia for both the original and the remake - it's nice to see that the Saturn port is so faithful.

Protip if you do buy a Saturn: Consider investing in an Action Replay cart for it to bypass region locking. Japanese Saturn games are often much more affordable than their US/UK counterparts (which have only gotten exponentially more expensive in recent years), and there's plenty of great games for the system that don't require you to know Japanese to play.
This showcase is missing some of the best games too (many of which are extraordinarily expensive...3 Dirty Dwarves is up to $130)...Virtual On, Sonic 3D Blast (the Saturn version is excellent, but only if you get the 3D controller...but the soundtrack is fucking amazing no matter what...way better than the Genesis version because Richard Jacques is a god), NiGHTS into Dreams (also...get the 3D controller), Radiant Silvergun, Solar Eclipse, Fighting Vipers, Powerslave (the Saturn version is way better than the PS1 version...and also absurdly expensive, like $200+), Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Saturn Bomberman (Arguably the best Bomberman ever released to date), Astal, Dragon Force, Magic Knight Rayearth, Shining Wisdom, Darius Gaiden, Johnny Bazookatone (I love this one...some people don't like it much, but the Saturn version is better than the PS1 version and was the same price last I checked), Gex (The Saturn version is way better than the 3DO version...mainly because the Saturn was way more powerful), Sky Target (somewhat controversial here too...some people don't like this game, but I really like it...3D controller required for good gameplay), and In the Hunt (this one...well, I'd recommend MAMEing this one rather than buying it for the Saturn...it's absurdly expensive, but really good. I used to play Game Tengoku, it's such an amazing gem of a game, it's all over the place but god it is so much fun and so charismatic. There's a part of the game in which you "fight" a girl who's singing, you can try to beat her, but, if you don't shot her at all, she sings the whole song until the end, where she says thank you and just goes away. What's even more amazing from that, is that the voice actor for that girl is Koorogi Satomi, same person who does japanese voice for May in Guilty Gear, Zeno-sama in DBS, Chii from Chii's sweet home, etc. And for me, as a huge fan of May, it was a really pleasant surprise and a very heartwarming / cute moment in the game. All in all, a super cute and funny shoot'em up, I really recommend it to anyone who likes those kind of games. Honestly, if anyone's interested in playing it, the game has a PC version on Steam, which also has a few DLC, though they are a bit expensive, but really worth it if you can't play the original version.

As a game? It's a fine, if exceedingly simple concept, methinks. But even Dragon's Lair had the occasional telegraphing, Braindead 13 is just trial-and-error. It's also the novelty of "playing a cartoon!" back then. That was a pretty big thing back then.

I don't understand how anyone ever thought "you watch a cartoon but you have to press the right button occasionally" was a good concept for a game.
For the business side of things, it's an arcade quarter eater that people shelved hundreds of dollars to beat.
As a game? It's a fine, if exceedingly simple concept, methinks. But even Dragon's Lair had the occasional telegraphing, Braindead 13 is just trial-and-error.
It's also the novelty of "playing a cartoon!" back then. That was a pretty big thing back then.
This sure was a interesting pack.
I remember playing the Brain Dead demo on pc back in the 90s, being really frustrated with the controls, and the violence sticking with me for a bit.
